Dean did what any human would do with the pictures Cas had drawn (though Sam was more inclined to say what any parent would do), he put them up in the kitchen. They were the only family portraits he had ever had and he wanted to display them for all to see. Not that they had any visitors but still, it was the thought that counted. And if he could make the bunker more like a home then he would. It was after all home for the five of them for now at any rate.
When Gabriel saw them he smirked at Dean before he spoke, making the hunter glare at him before the words left him lips.
"Wow, mama Dean. Displaying your kiddie's art work are we? You going to add banishing symbols and devils traps drawn by Sammy-o?"
"Shut up Gabe." Dean said through gritted teeth at the archangel and went back to organising dinner for the three people who would actually be eating it. What was wrong with wanting to have the pictures up? Nothing in his mind.
Gabriel smiled at Deans back but didn't say any more. They had come to a silent understanding between them where Castiel was concerned. Dean treated him like a human kid and Gabriel like the fledgling he was. Neither involving themselves in the others way of parenting. Not that they would admit that what they were doing was parenting, even is Sam did enjoy reminding them both of the fact.
Castiel on the other hand was overjoyed that Dean had thought his pictures where good enough to go up in the room that he spend most of his waking time in. This gave him the incentive to draw more pictures. Soon everyone had a collection of artwork drawn by Castiel and Dean had starting dotting them all around the bunker, though one picture Castiel did Dean did not put up in the open.
Its early one morning and Dean woke to find himself staring into the blues eyes of Cas as he sat crossed legged on his bed watching him sleep. Which in Deans mind was still creepy, no matter how old Cas was.
"Hey buddy, what's up?" He asked groggily, still not completely awake.
"I drew you another picture Dean." Castiel replied with a smile. He had been sitting there for 45 minutes waiting for Dean to wake so he could give it to him. He hoped he like it.
"Yeah? Let's have a look then." Dean said sitting up and blinking sleep out of his eyes.
With that Castiel handed Dean the piece of paper he was holding. Looking down Dean saw it was a prefect drawing of his baby. The impala was correct to the most minuscule detail. It was without doubt the most amazing picture Cas had done to date.
"Wow Cas this is awesome." He finally said looking up at the fledging and smiling at him.
"I'm glad you like it Dean." Castiel replied.
"I love it." with that Dean looked around his room trying to find somewhere special he could put it. With that his eyes fell on the framed photo he had of his mom. Looking at the picture in his hand he got up from his bed and went and rested it behind the frame on his desk.
"I'll get a frame for it next time I'm out." He said to the angel on his bed ruffling his hair.
Castiel smiled and jumped up, giving Dean a quick hug before running out the door to go find Gabriel. Dean just shook his head at the departing figure and decided that he might as well get up for real now.
Sam was feeling much better thanks to Gabriel's continued healing, though he was getting restless stuck in the bunker. He wanted to go out and hunt things, even if he knew he wasn't really ready for it. But there really was only so much reading you could do before you go out of your mind. With that thought he decided it was time to do something different. He remembered Kevin saying something about the table in the war room lighting up when the angels fell. Maybe he could make it tell them where the angels were now. With that he went to investigate the crazy ancient computer system.
Dean went looking for his brother to see what he wanted to eat. When he wasn't in the library or the war room he started to panic slightly, until that was that Kevin said he mentioned something about investigating the computer room. So Dean went to look for him and eventually found him fiddling with wires in some random room.
"What ya doing?" He asked crossing his arms as he leant against the doorframe.
"Well I was hoping to get the war room table to tell us the location of all the angels, but this is beyond me. What we need is a computer expert." Sam replied walking away from the machine in the middle of the room.
"Yeah I'll just call one up and get them to come and look it over." Dean said sarcastically rolling his eyes at his nerd of a little brother.
"Well I was thinking of giving Charlie a call." Sam replied smugly.
Dean stood there and thought. Yeah Charlie would be good for this. And if she was coming he could get her to stop off for some supplies, and other things he had been thinking of getting, on her way. And so he turned to Sam.
"I'll call her. You can go get yourself some lunch." And with that he pulled out his phone and dialled Charlie.
Charlie got off the phone to Dean with a puzzled look on her face. Yeah sure she could understand them wanting her to help with a tech issue and she could even understand the supplies request, though she hadn't thought Dean would want quite so much healthy stuff. But the other things? They were just weird. I mean what grown man who hunted monsters as a way of life wanted Legos and toy cars? Well it was Dean so she just shrugged it off, whatever floated his boat she guessed and went to the nearest toy store to pick up the stuff he had asked for before starting the journey to the bunker.
