AN: Hey guys sorry for the extremely late update; schools been busy with exams and stuff. We're hoping to get back into the rhythm of writing again but we've been struggling a bit. We know what we are doing the next few chapters it's just getting around to writing it. The next few chapters will be based around existing episodes because we think they are important to the storyline/the idea we have of where this story will go so hopefully you enjoy them and then we can get into the good stuff we are really looking forward to doing. Anyway remember to review and thank you to everyone that has reviewed/followed/favourited already! Enjoy!
It had been a week since Dean was in the hospital and they'd spent the week at Bobby's, the girls practicing their powers with Dean's approval. Although Dean didn't like the idea of it very much, and he worried what it could do to them mentally and physically, he was more worried about their lives. The girls fighting ability, although better than when they had arrived, would not be enough. He saw their powers, at least being able to move a demon or hold it in place for long enough to kill it, could be enough to save them from what seemed like certain death. More seals were breaking, and it seemed like the bloody angels weren't getting anywhere. Every day the boys feared for the girls life, barely letting them out of sight, especially not if they left the house or headed into town. Sam and Dean were talking again but it was tense. The girls compared it to parents who hated each other that were staying together for the kids' sake. The girls felt like those kids, hoping their parents would get along, but not knowing what to do about it. The boys were staying together to protect them, and they felt terrible about it. It was the girl's powers and messing with Sam that had started the argument before it got so much worse. They were trying to figure out how to fix the situation and remind the boys how much they enjoyed hunting together. The girls were sitting around the kitchen table on their laptops looking for some sort of job to do.
"Hey, Dean!" Beth called excitedly. The other four turned to look at her "Comic book shop ghost" she said smiling "as in a ghost haunting a comic book store"
"What!" Jess yelled excitedly taking Beth's laptop off her to read what the job is about.
"It's in Utah, let's go" Beth said happily "before it kills again!" she added dramatically.
"Can we go, please can we go?" Jess begged
"Might as well it's been a slow week, anything to get out" Sam said causing the two girls to squeal happily. Dean took the laptop off Jess to read about the job, while Sam sent the girls to get ready.
...
The plan was to send the girls into the comic book store a head of the boys, and then they'd go in as FBI after them.
"Don't draw attention to yourself, you're just three teenage girls who calmly read comics" Dean said turning to face the girls who were sitting in the back of the Impala.
"Yeah we know Dean" Samantha said as Beth and Jess got out of the car and waited for her. When they got in the shop they said hi to the man behind the cash register and went straight to the bargain bin that was close enough to the till that they could hear what the boys were saying when they came in. When the boys came in they asked the man the usual questions, any flickering lights, skittering in the wall, cold spots. The man wasn't giving any good answers till a large smile crossed his face.
"I knew it!" the man said excitedly "you guys are LARPing aren't you?" he asked loudly.
"What's LARPing?" Dean asked confused causing the girls to laugh quietly at him. He turned to look at them giving them a quick glare before looking back at the man. They shrunk back, going back through the bargain bin and picking up books, flipping through them.
"Live-Action-Role-Playing. Pretty hard core too" The man said chuckling.
"I have no idea what you're talking about" Dean said getting frustrated. Sam's face was just as confused.
"You're asking questions like the buildings haunted." The man explained "Like those guys from the books. What are they called? Uh... Supernatural. Two guys, use fake IDs with rock aliases, hunt down ghosts, demons, vampires." Sam and Dean shared a worried look. "What are their names? Uh... Steve and Dirk? Uh, Sal and Dane?"
"Sam and Dean" Jess said helpfully picking up one of the supernatural books, showing the other two girls. They started laughing at what was clearly Sam with long flowing hair.
"That's it!" The man said
"And this is a book?" Sam asked raising his eyebrows.
"Books, it's a series" Beth said holding them up to show the boys.
"Yeah didn't sell a lot of copies, more of an underground cult now" The man said as Dean snatched a book out of Samantha's hand "that's the first one" the man said gesturing to the book Dean had in his hand. After Dean read some of the first page, Sam snatched it out of his hand.
"Let me see" he said flicking through the book "we're gonna need every copy of supernatural you have" he told the man. After paying for the books the five of them headed back to the impala the girls reading out parts of the books and laughing before Dean took all the books off them and chucked them in the boot.
...
Back at the motel room they were all reading through the books while Sam was researching the books online
"Ahh!" Samantha screamed throwing the book she was reading across the room causing everyone else jump in shock "I cannot unread that!" she yelled covering her head with her arms.
"What?" Beth asked confused looking at Samantha
"Dean having sex" Samantha replied quietly. Dean looked shocked and picked up the book Samantha was previously reading
"Everything is in here" Dean said "I'm full-frontal in here!" he added shocked reading the bit Samantha was previously reading. Sam's face scrunched up in disgust.
"How come you guys haven't heard of these before?" Jess asked putting the book she was reading on the bed side table.
"They're pretty obscure. I mean, almost zero circulation" Sam said "Uh, started in '05. The publisher put out a couple dozen before going bankrupt. And, uh, the last one- 'No Rest For The Wicked' - Ends with you going to hell" He said turning his laptop around for Dean to see.
"I reiterate. Freaking insane" Dean said scrolling down the webpage "look at this there's actually fans, not many of them but they're there. Did you read this?" he asked Sam nodded but Dean read it out for the girls sake "Simpatico says 'the demon story line is trite, clichéd, and over all craptastic' Yeah well screw you Simpatic, we lived it"
"Keep reading it gets better" Sam said sarcastically.
"There's Dean girls and Sam girls and what's a slash fan?" He asked confused causing the girls to fall into a fit of hysterics "what?" Dean asked confused "what is it?"
"Sam-slash-Dean" Beth said between laughter.
"Together" Jess added causing her to laugh even harder.
"Like together, together?" Dean asked disgusted. The girls nodded still laughing and saying something about OTPs that Sam and Dean did not understand.
"They know we're brothers, right?" Dean asked.
"Doesn't seem to matter" Sam said just as disgusted as Dean.
"Oh, come on. That's just sick" Dean said "we've got to find this Carver Edlund" he decided. The girl's laughter calmed down.
"Not gonna be that easy. No tax records, no known address, Looks like Carver Edlund is a pen name" Sam said.
"Somebody's gotta know who he is" Dean said frustrated.
"Why don't you go to the publishers?" Samantha suggested.
"Yeah good idea." Dean replied.
"That's why you love us." Beth said smiling. Dean shook his head smiling. They found the address of the publishers, and made their way there. The boys were going to pretend to be doing an article on the books. Since they didn't want to leave the girls by themselves and the girls wanted to be part of it they decided the girls could be their assistants and pretend to take notes or talk to another client on the phone. The women seemed a little terrified when the five of them were standing at her door but she soon let them in. Jess stood there with her phone out, constantly glancing at it as if waiting for a phone call, Samantha had a pen and paper ready to take fake notes while Beth just stayed looking around the room. A poster on the wall caught her attention.
"So you published the 'Supernatural' books?" Sam asked the woman
"Yep. Yeah. Gosh. These books... You know, they never really got the attention they deserved. All anybody wants to read anymore is that romance crap. You know, 'Doctor Sexy, M.D.'?" The woman scoffed "Please."
"Right. Well, we're hoping that our article can... shine a light on an underappreciated series." Sam
"Yeah, yeah, because, you know, if we got a little bit of good press then m-maybe we could start publishing again." The woman said getting excited.
"No, no, no, no. God, no." Dean said quickly without thinking, the woman gave him a confused look. "I mean, why – why would you want to do that? You know, it's, uh, such a complete series, what with Dean going to hell and all." He said covering himself.
"Oh, my god! That was one of my favourite ones, because Dean was so... strong... and sad and brave. And Sam... I mean, the best parts are when they'd cry. You know, like in – In 'Heart', when Sam had to kill Madison, the first woman since Jessica he really loved. And in 'Home', when Dean had to call John and ask him for help." The woman said getting very emotional. Sam and Dean felt awkward. The woman turned away and they boys looked at each other confused. "Gosh... if only real men were so open and in touch with their feelings." She said quietly to herself. The girls quietly chuckled to themselves.
"Real men?" Dean asked slightly offended.
"I mean, no offense. How often do you cry like that, hmm?" She asked raising her eyebrow.
"You'd be surprised" Beth spoke up. Dean shot her a glare instantly shutting her up.
"How do I know you two are legit, hmm?" She said turning around and walking behind her desk taking a seat.
"Oh, trust me. We, uh... we're legit." Dean said very unconvincingly.
"Well, I don't want any smart-ass article making fun of my boys."
"No! No, no, no. Never." Sam said stammering.
"No, that's…"
"Oh no they would ever do that; they're actually really big fans." Beth said smirking. Sam and Dean looked at Beth slightly terrified.
"Hmm. You've read the books?" The woman asked.
"Cover to cover. It's all they ever do" Samantha said smiling.
"What's the year and model of the car?" she asked
"It's a 1967 Chevy Impala." Dean said smiling.
"What's May 2nd?" the woman asked.
"That's my…" Sam began before realising what he said. "Uh... that's Sam's birthday." Sam said correcting himself.
"January 24th is Dean's." Dean pointed out.
"Sam's score on the LSAT?" She continued quizzing them.
"One… Seventy-four?" Sam guessed
"Dean's favourite song?"
"It's a tie. Between Zep's 'Ramble On' and 'Traveling Riverside Blues.'
"Okay. Okay. What do you want to know?" the woman said taking a seat behind her desk.
"What's Carver Edlund's real name?" Sam asked
"Oh, no. I – No. Sorry, I can't do that." She stammered out.
"We just want to talk to him. You know, get the 'Supernatural' story in his own words."
"He's very private. It's like Salinger."
"Please. Like we said, they're really big fans" Samantha said walking up to Sam, Sam looked down at her confused as she reached for his shirt collar pulling it down slightly to reveal his anti-possession tattoo. He looked up at the women slightly shocked. "... big... big fans." Samantha said smirking. Samantha looked at Dean pointedly, at this he rolled his eyes and pulled down his own shirt, revealing his own tattoo. The woman looked towards Dean and licked her lips.
"Okay." She said before grabbing a pen and writing something on the piece of paper and handing it to Dean "His name's Chuck Shurley. And he's a genius, so don't piss him off." They tanked the woman before leaving.
"What the hell was that?" Sam asked the girls as they got into the Impala that was parked down the street.
"Hey it worked, no big deal." Samantha replied shrugging.
"Can we go get food? I'm starving." Jess asked.
"Sure." Dean replied
When they arrived back at the motel, it was reaching late afternoon. The girls decided to continue reading the supernatural books, finding out about what life has been like for Sam and Dean. The girls were shocked at what they read. The boys had been through a lot that the girls knew nothing about. They felt slightly bad about using the books to find out things, but at the same time they wanted to understand the boys, and also maybe learn some things about hunting. While the girls read Dean was watching something on TV and Sam on his laptop. The tension in the room was awkward and eventually the girls had enough.
"Can we watch a horror movie?" Jess asked closing the book she was reading and chucking it on the bed.
"Why would you want to watch a horror movie?" Sam asked
"Because they're fun." Jess replied
"I haven't seen a horror movie in so long." Samantha murmured. "Please?"
"We are not watching a horror movie." Beth said.
"Yes we are." Jess said smiling. Beth sighed and sat down on the sofa knowing it was pointless to try and argue with the other two.
"Sasquatch!" Jess whined "Can you go get us snacks and a movie?" She asked. Sam sighed releasing the two had decided they were going to watch a movie and there was no changing their mind
"What do you want?" he asked
"The grudge!" Samantha said happily "and salt and vinegar chips" she added
"I want chocolate" Jess said smiling sitting next Beth
"I want a loaded gun" Beth sighed
"Grudge, chips, chocolate and Reese's pieces" Sam said knowing Beth's favourite candy
"That'll do I guess" she sighed. Sam grabbed the keys to the impala and glanced at Dean
"You want anything" Sam asked.
"What she's having" Dean frowned pointing to Beth, causing Sam to shake his head. As he headed for the door Dean quickly yelled. "Get me some pie as well" Sam didn't say anything and walked out the door.
When Sam returned with the movie and food Jess and Samantha leapt up to grab the movie from Sam. The girls hadn't watched a horror movie in so long; in fact they haven't watched a movie since New Zealand. It just wasn't something that they wanted to watch knowing that ghosts and demons existed. But now it part of their lives so they might as well embrace it.
Sam found some bowls in the cupboards to put the chips in and chucked one on each bed. Beth quickly grabbed her Reese's pieces before anybody else could get them and sat on the bed hugging a pillow. Sam and Dean sat on the other bed with a six pack between them. Samantha grabbed the bowl of chips and sat next to Beth, not offering them to her. Jess was sitting in front of the TV setting up the movie. When it started she scooted back and leaned against the foot of the Beth's and Samantha's bed.
"Well this is gonna be fun" Dean said taking a swig of his beer.
"If you try to do anything that would scare me, I will fucking end you all" Beth threatened. Dean smiled
"So grabbing your foot in the middle of the movie is classed as scary" Jess asked smiling.
"Touching my foot in general warrants death. In the middle of a horror movie that I don't want to watch warrants a death that will be slow and painful" Beth threatened once again.
"Shut up, it's starting" Samantha said with a mouthful of chips hitting Beth in the arm. Beth groaned and grabbed the pillow next to her and holding it in her lap, Samantha rolled her eyes at Beth who was too easily scared and Jess paid no attention to the two on the bed and the opening credits rolled.
During the movie Beth would jump at every little thing, Dean and Samantha would laugh, Sam would roll his eyes at how stupid and unrealistic everything in the movie was and Jess would do a mixture of what everyone is doing.
"Oh my god Beth, stop it. It's not scary" Samantha yelled.
"Not to you, but it is to me" Beth said hugging her pillow tighter.
"It's not even fucking real" Samantha stated frustrated.
"How do you fucking know?" Beth asked glaring at Samantha from over her pillow.
"Because it's not" Samantha yelled.
"Well you know there are legends.."
"Shut up Sam" Beth and Samantha yelled together.
"Really? Cool!" Jess said excited. Samantha threw a pillow at her.
"Just shut up you two and watch the movie" Dean said. Beth and Samantha went quiet for a while, but when Beth jumped again.
"Seriously!" Samantha yelled. Jess sighed and paused the movie, knowing that this is gonna be loud.
"Shut the fuck up Sam, I'm allowed to be scared of a fucking horror movie that I didn't even want to fucking watch." Beth yelled back
"Well if you don't want to watch it, leave then" Samantha said pointing to the door.
"Harsh" Jess muttered
"JESS!" Dean yelled finally having enough
"I didn't do anything" Jess defended at the end of the bed.
"For once" Samantha spat.
"Hey, sorry Jess, that's enough" Dean yelled. Sam climbed off his bed
"Beth over there" Sam order pointing to the bed Dean was on. "Samantha stop yelling at Beth and Jess..." Sam said looking at Jess, who held her hands up defensively "You're fine, you stay there" Sam continued. It was a force of habit to yell at Jess as she was usually the one that started it. Beth sighed getting off the bed and crawling to the one Dean was sitting on clutching her Reese's pieces and pillow. Sam sat down on the side of the bed that Beth had just vacated
"Hey it Sam and Sam" Jess said smiling pointing at the two Sam's behind her
"Just play the God damned movie so we can it over and done with" Dean said grumpily taking some of Beth's chocolate
"How come he's allowed some?" Samantha asked shocked
"You don't even like peanuts" Beth answered angrily
"Fine" Samantha muttered going back to eating her chips. Jess waited a moment until she was sure that the other two girls had stopped fighting before re-starting the film. By the end of the movie Beth had hidden into Dean's shoulder and Samantha had fallen asleep on Sam's shoulder. Jess was still on the floor not bothering anyone.
"Well that was fun" Dean said clapping his hands together as the movie credits rolled.
"No it wasn't" Beth said still curled up into Dean. Samantha was starting to stir awake.
"Yeah. Let's watch another" Jess said turning around to face the others
"NO!" They all yelled together at Jess, who just sunk back down on the floor in defeat.
…
The next morning the girls awoke to find the boys already awake, Dean was packing up his duffel bag and Sam was out buying the girls coffees.
"Rise and shine girls." Dean yelled.
"Shut up Dean." Beth mumbled as she crawled out of bed. Dean smirked at her before turning back to his duffel bag. Beth looked at Dean grumpily before flicking her hand causing her pillow to go flying at Dean.
"Oops" Beth said before turning around and walking towards the bathroom. The other two girls snickered before going to grab their bags and find something to wear for the day. Sam came back a few minutes later with a coffee for Beth and a Mocha each for Samantha and Jess. Once the girls were ready they headed off. The drive was only a couple of hours; they arrived well before midday.
"Okay you girls stay in the car" Dean said turning around to face the girls in the back seat.
"But Dean" Samantha whined.
"Stay in the car, and don't come out until I tell you to." Dean said slightly angrier than he meant to. He apologized to the girls before Sam and Dean got out of the Impala and made their way up to the front door. The girls watched intently as they walked up the stairs, momentarily pausing to look at each other before knocking on the door. The girls couldn't see past the boys tall frames, to see who opened the door. When the door suddenly shut the girls snickered quietly. They saw the boys knock again, and the door swung open, and the boys forced themselves inside, the door closing behind them. The girls all turned back to look at each other.
"Why do we always have to sit in the car?" Samantha asked leaning her head on Jess' shoulder.
"Because Dean's an overprotective mother." Jess stated taking her phone out of her pocket
"Why do we even listen though?" Beth asked leaning back in her seat closing her eyes
"Because Dean will kill us if we don't." Jess answered
"I need to stretch my legs. My knees killing me." Samantha said rubbing her knees "Why do I always have to sit in the middle?" she whined
"Because you're a princess." Jess stated
"Aren't we all technically I mean princesses of hell?" Samantha said absentmindedly
"Yeah don't remind me." Beth muttered not opening her eyes
"Girls" Dean said startling them out of their conversation; they hadn't noticed Sam and Dean walking out of the house with who the girls assumed was Chuck. The girls quickly hopped out of the Impala, going to stand beside Sam and Dean. Chuck stared at them confused.
"This is Beth, Jess and Samantha." Dean said introducing them. Chucks eyes went wide in slight shock.
"Have you been hacking my computer?" Chuck asked shocked
"How much do you know? Do you know about the angels? Or Lilith breaking the seals?" Dean demanded angrily
"Wait a minute. How do you know about that? How do you even know about the girls?" Chuck asked getting scared
"The question is how do you." Jess asked Chuck
"Because I wrote it?" He answered
"You kept writing?" Beth asked shocked
"Yeah, even after the publisher went bankrupt, but those books never came out. Okay, wait a minute. This is some kind of joke, right? Did that – Did Phil put you up to this?" he demanded
"Well, nice to meet you. I'm Dean Winchester, and this is my brother, Sam." Dean said smirking
"The last names were never in the books. I never told anybody about that. I never even wrote that down. You're real?" Chuck asked shocked
"Nope you're just high" Beth stated smiling causing Samantha to hit her round the head.
"Yup, so you better start explaining how you've been writing about our lives." Dean ordered ignoring Beth's comment.
"Okay I uh… come with me." Chuck said turning around and walking back into his house, they all followed chuck and watched as he poured himself a drink and took a large gulp before turning around. "Oh! Oh, you're still there." he asked shocked
"Yup." Jess said popping the p
"You're not a hallucination." Chuck said rubbing his eyes.
"Nope." Sam said
"Well, there's only one explanation. Obviously I'm a god." Chuck decided confidently
"And I'm not the spawn of Satan" Samantha said causing everyone to stare at her in shock. "Oh wait bad joke." she added
"You're not a god." Dean said frustrated
"How else do you explain it?" Chuck asked "I write things and then they come to life. Yeah, no, I'm definitely a god. A cruel, cruel, capricious god. The things I put you through – The physical beatings alone." he said holding his head in his hands
"Yeah, we're still in one piece." Dean said
"I killed your father. I burned your mother alive. And then you had to go through the whole horrific deal again with Jessica." he paused before looking at the girls. "I killed your families, made you a seal, constantly under the threat of death."
"Chuck…" Sam tried
"All for what? All for the sake of literary symmetry. I toyed with your lives, your emotions, for... entertainment." Chuck continued
"Yeah that was rude" Beth said sarcastically.
"You didn't toy with us, Chuck, okay? You didn't create us." Dean yelled glaring at the girls.
"Did you really have to live through the bugs?" Chuck asked
"Yeah." Sam answered rolling his eyes.
"Bugs?" Beth asked
"Yeah we got attacked by bugs" Dean stated
"That happens?" Beth asked quietly Sam nodded not registering her fear "Nope nope nope abort mission abort!" she said aiming to leave when Dean grabbed her arm pulling her back.
"I knew there was reason I hated bugs" Jess stated quietly.
"What about the ghost ship?" Chuck asked.
"Yes, that too." Dean said clear annoyance on his face holding his hand up to the girls before they could say anything about ghost ships.
"Are those really the worst things they went through?" Samantha asked raising an eyebrow and pushing Dean's hand away.
"I am so sorry. I mean, horror is one thing, but to be forced to live bad writing... if I would have known it was real, I would have done another pass." Chuck said distressed
"Chuck, you're not a god!" Dean yelled clearly having had enough.
"Dean don't be mean." Jess scolded Dean. The boys just ignored her continuing talking to Chuck.
"We think you're probably just psychic." Sam explained
"No." Chuck disagreed instantly shaking his head. "If I were psychic, you think I'd be writing? Writing is hard." Chuck complained.
"I know that feel." Beth muttered, the other girls nodding in agreement.
"It seems that somehow, you're just... focused on our lives." Sam said trying to ignore the girls.
"Yeah, like laser-focused. Are you working on anything right now?" Dean asked. Chucks face turned to sudden realisation.
"Holy crap." he said tilting his head back, disbelief on his face.
"What?" all three girls asked at once.
"The, uh, latest book? It's, uh, it's kind of weird." Chuck struggled to explain, the boys and girls faces all showing different stages of worry and concern.
"Weird how?" Sam demanded.
"It's very Vonnegut." Chuck explained stroking his moustache.
"'Slaughterhouse-Five' Vonnegut or 'Cat's Cradle' Vonnegut?" Dean asked moving closer to Chuck.
"What?" Sam asked shocked. He didn't think Dean would know what that meant. The girls stood there confused, having no idea what it meant.
"What does that even mean?" Beth asked.
"What's Vonnegut?" Samantha asked raising an eyebrow.
"It's, uh, 'Kilgore Trout' Vonnegut." Chuck started. "I wrote myself into it. I wrote myself, at my house... confronted by my characters."
