The girls were sitting in the study each of them listening to their own music trying to drown out the sound of Sam's screams. Jess was sitting on the floor in the corner her eyes closed mouthing the lyrics to the music she was listening to. Samantha was stretched out on the sofa reading a book she'd found in amongst the stuff Castiel retrieved from New Zealand over Christmas and Beth was in her wheelchair wheeling up and down the room.

Dean and Bobby were sitting in the kitchen each of them drinking a glass of whiskey with nothing to drown out Sam's screams, the pain evident on both their faces.

"How long is this gonna go on?" Dean asked looking up at Bobby.

"Here let me look in my demon detox manual." Bobby said reaching for a pile of books "Oh wait. No one ever wrote one." he said sarcastically letting his hand fall back into his lap "No telling how long it'll take. Hell, or if Sam will live through it" he said sadly. Dean glared at Bobby for saying that, of course Sam would live through it, Dean wouldn't let him die. Suddenly the phone rang; at the sound of this each of the girls took their headphones off and went into the kitchen to see who it was.

"Hello," Bobby said answering the phone, the girls and Dean watching him carefully, "Suck dirt and die, Rufus. You call me again, I'll kill you" he said hanging up. The girls looked at each other confused having no idea who Rufus was while Dean just looked questioningly at Bobby.

"What's up with Rufus?" He asked.

"He knows" Bobby said not answering the question. Dean was about to say something but he was cut short by the phone ringing again.

"I'm busy you son of a bitch, this better be important" Bobby spat answering the phone. Dean looked up to see the girls in the doorway and gestured at them to leave. The girls rolled their eyes and went back into the study resuming what they were doing previously.

"Can you stop that?" Samantha said glaring at Beth "your wheels are squeaky." The stress of the current situation was getting to everyone and the girls were grumpy at the best of times.

"Do I look like I give any fucks?" Beth said continuing to wheel up and down the room.

"You may not but I do." Samantha spat.

"Will you two stop it fucking hell; all you two do is fight." Jess said angrily.

"Because she's annoying." Samantha said defensively.

"Because you're trying to revoke my right to get as much use out of this fucking thing as possible." Beth said.

"I will tip you out of that thing." Samantha threatened turning to Beth.

"I will run over your fucking fo-" Beth started before Dean walked in the room cutting her off.

"Can you lot stop arguing for five minutes!" he yelled at them.

"I wasn't doing anything." Jess said raising her hands in defence.

"No you never do." Beth spat turning and wheeling out of the room.

"Where the hell are you going?" Dean asked.

"Not far obviously because I'm in A FUCKING WHEELCHAIR YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Beth yelled angrily making it to the front porch and just sitting out there. The girls sighed and rolled their eyes. Beth had been in a bad mood since getting back from the hospital. Having to rely on everyone for everything; she hated adding to everyone's stress.

"Just leave her, she'll be fine." Dean said going back into the kitchen where Bobby was finishing on the phone to Rufus "What did Rufus want?" he asked sitting back down. The two girls listening in on the conversation.

"The news" Bobby said handing Dean pages from a newspaper "The news ain't good"

"This is what Rufus called about?" Dean asked skimming the paper "'Key West see's ten species go extinct'" he read aloud. Samantha and Jess shared a horrified look as they heard this, before walking into the kitchen.

"Yep. Plus Alaska fifteen-man fishing crew all stricken blind, cause unknown. New York, teacher goes postal, locks the door, kills exactly sixty-six kids." Bobby said listing them off.

"Well can you blame her, kids are horrible." Jess said.

"All this in a single day." Bobby said ignoring Jess' comment "I looked them up. There's no doubt about it. They're all seals. Breaking. Fast." The two girls looked at each other fear evident on their faces. Dean looked up from the paper and turned to look at Bobby.

"How many left?" Dean asked.

"Who knows, can't be many" Bobby said "Where the hell are your angel pals?" He asked.

"You tell me." Dean said rolling his eyes "Girls go get Beth in, the three of you are on lockdown." he said turning to the girls who were standing in the doorway. They nodded and headed out to the front porch where Beth was still sitting.

"You look like an old lady waiting to yell at kids." Jess said approaching Beth.

"That's exactly how I feel." Beth said smiling an obvious fake smile at the two.

"Dean said we need to go inside, we're on lockdown." Samantha said.

"Not like I can go anywhere anyway." Beth said turning and wheeling back into the house "Why are we on lockdown?" she asked when she reached the kitchen, Samantha and Jess behind her.

"The seals are breaking fast; we're not taking any risks." Dean explained.

"Great" she said sarcastically. "So what are you going to do with us? Lock us in the panic room with Sam?" Beth asked bitterly, causing Dean to visibly flinch. Dean already felt bad enough about locking Sam up he didn't need Beth making him feel worse just because she was stuck in a wheel chair.

"No," Dean said angrily, "you know why? Because Sam's dangerous, he can get out of the house. You can't. You're stuck here" he said.

"Yeah well whose fault is that?" Beth said angrily glaring at Dean.

"Is now really the right time to be having this little domestic drama of ours?" Bobby asked intervening before it got worse. Both Dean and Beth were fuming; it was only going to get worse if they let it carry on. Beth sighed angrily and wheeled into the study, Jess and Samantha following her while Dean turned to Bobby.

"Was that really called for?" Jess asked Beth falling onto the sofa.

"Yes." Beth said sarcastically.

"Do you always have to be so sarcastic?" Samantha asked sighing.

"Yes without sarcasm I'm nothing." Beth said sarcastically.

"Yeah and apparently without making Dean feel worse you're nothing." Jess muttered.

"I know I just can't help it." Beth started. "Okay I'm sorry" she added dramatically.

…...

The rest of the day the girls spent trying to block out Sam's screams and pretending not to hear Bobby and Dean's conversations about whether they were killing Sam. They didn't want to think about someone else they considered family dying. They were still getting over the loss of their family, having resorted to not talking about it anymore. Losing Sam would be like losing their brothers all over again and none of them could handle that. Dean and Bobby raced down to the panic room once when it went silent. When they returned they told the girls they had to tie Sam up, because he was throwing himself around the room. Dean and Bobby joined the girls in the study later that night. All five of them eventually falling asleep, Bobby on his desk, Dean on the sofa, Beth in her wheelchair and Samantha and Jess leaning against the sofa on the floor.

At about 8 in the morning Bobby woke Dean and the girls up saying Sam's gone.

"What do you mean gone?" Dean asked sitting up Jess and Samantha standing up so he could get off the sofa.

"Well I don't know how else to put it, he's not in the panic room" Bobby said. Dean got up quickly running down to the panic room, Bobby, Jess and Samantha following him.

"Yeah I'll just stay here, no biggy" Beth yelled angrily from the top of the stairs.

"Bigger fish" Bobby yelled up to her. Beth rolled her eyes and wheeled back into the living room.

"How the hell did he get out?" Dean asked standing in the middle of the room.

"You know about as much as us." Jess said looking around.

"Maybe he had help, room full of busted devils traps." Dean said examining one of the devils traps where it was broken.

"Ruby?" Samantha asked.

"That'd be my guess." Bobby said.

"How did she even touch the door?" Dean asked.

"You think she got the mojo?" Bobby asked him.

"I don't think so, I don't know man." Dean said at a loss to how Sam could have gotten out of the panic room.

"It doesn't really matter how he got out of the thing, what we need to know is where he's gone." Jess pointed out.

"Where ever he is I hope he's with Ruby." Dean said walking out of the the panic room and back upstairs.

"Why?" Samantha asked following him.

"Cause killing her is the next big item on my to-do list." he answered angrily.

"I thought you were on call for angel duty." Bobby said.

"I am on call, in my car, on my way to murder the bitch." Dean said angrily going to leave.

"One thing," Bobby said, "Sam don't wanna be found which means he's gonna be damn near impossible to find." Bobby said causing Dean to stop in the doorway.

"What do you suggest then?" Dean asked.

"He would have taken a car. Search surrounding areas for the damn car." Beth said still angry.

"Fine." Dean said walking back into the study.

….

"The police found my car." Bobby said to the girls, Dean was outside working on the Impala.

"No point telling us we can't do anything about it." Beth said angrily. Bobby sighed getting up from his seat and going out to Dean.

"Beth can you stop snapping at everyone. You're not the only one having a hard time you know." Samantha said Beth starting to get on her last nerves.

"Yeah but I'm the only one who can't do anything" Beth muttered.

"You can do about as much as the rest of us. We're all stuck in here." Jess said angrily

…..

"Police found my car. Abandoned in an alley in Jamestown, North Dakota." Bobby said walking over to Dean who was working on the impala.

"He's switching up. Any other cars stolen in Jamestown?" Dean asked wiping his hands on a dirty rag.

"Two. 1999 Honda Civic, blue. Nice and anonymous, like Sam likes." Bobby said looking at the papers in his hand.

"What was the other one?" Dean asked.

"White oh-five Escalade with custom rims. It's a neon sign." Bobby said.

"You're right. He'd never take that. Which is exactly what he did." Dean said.

"You think?" Bobby asked.

"I know that kid. All right, I'll head in that direction. You stay here, ride the police databases and keep an eye on the girls. We gotta find him quick." Dean said shutting the bonnet of the car.

Bobby walked back inside to where the girls were sitting in silence. The tension between them obvious.

"Dean's gone to find Sam." He told them.

"He left already?" Jess asked shocked and sad that Dean would just leave without actually telling them.

"Yeah Sam's got the jump on him." Bobby explained.

"He left without saying goodbye." Samantha asked sadly realising that if the seals were breaking fast and Sam was off to Lilith, this could be it both boys could die and neither of them said bye to the girls. They thought the three of them meant something to the two boys, maybe they were wrong.

"Dean will be back." Bobby told the girls, attempting to look as though he believed it.

"Even you don't believe that Bobby." Beth said coldly.

"We're smarter than you give us credit for." Jess said.

"Dean could die. Sam's not himself. He could kill him. And he just leaves without saying anything." Beth asked her anger yet again rising.

"Dean and Sam are all we have left Bobby. We can't lose them too." Samantha said on the verge of tears.

"You don't think losing them affects me too. Or losing you girls for that matter. You're my family. They're my family. I raised those two boys when their Daddy dumped them on my doorstep. And I cared for them as if they were my own. I raised those boys right. Now stop being so bloody selfish. The world doesn't revolve around you." Bobby yelled.

The girls were shocked by Bobby's outburst. He had never yelled at them with so much anger and passion. They weren't sure how to react. Their faces a mixture of terror, sadness and shame. Bobby left the room without another word and the girls fell into silence. Each one in their own little world, but all thinking about what Bobby had said, whether the boys would be okay, whether they could really stop Lucifer from rising and whether they would die trying. In some ways death doesn't seem so bad. They could get away from all the pain, loss and suffering and maybe, just maybe, they could see their families again. Those they had lost when the demons slaughtered them. Those who had died because they were in the way. A small insignificant life in a world of so many, and a story of such death. And yet, they were significant in the story of three girls, who dearly loved them, and who were probably about to die.

To the girl's relief, Dean returned the next day, but he was alone. The girls watched him from the porch as he got out of the impala, he looked slightly battered, as if he had just been in a fight, but what hurt the girls the most was to see how broken his face looked.

"Dean." The girls called happy as he walked up the stairs, but Dean didn't even spare them a glance. Instead he just walked straight up the steps and past the girls, walking into the house. The smiles on the girl's faces fell. Dean was not usually like this towards them.

"What do you think happened?" Samantha asked looking at the doorway that Dean had just walked through.

"I don't know." Jess muttered.

The girls entered the house, to find Bobby and Dean in the study. They stood just in the doorway awkwardly, watching Bobby sitting at the desk as Dean sat with his head in his hands.

"What happened?" Bobby asked.

"Sam was with Ruby. I found them in a motel. Short version, Sam's gone." Dean said looking up at Bobby, avoiding the eyes of the girls.

"What do you mean gone? He's not… D..." Samantha stuttered out. The way Dean said it, and how he had been acting, she could only imagine the worst.

"No he's not dead. But he might as well be. He walked out." The girls all let out a deep breath none of them realised they were holding.

"You know you should clarify, gone is way too vague." Beth told him.

"Shhh, totally not the time." Jess shut her up. Dean ignored the girls, walking over to the window, staring out.

"You need to call him Dean." Bobby said. Dean ignored him and continued to stare out the window. Bobby and the girls waited for an answer but one never came. "Dean?" Bobby tried again, but he still didn't answer. "Dean!" he said once again, slightly louder this time. "You listen to a word I said?" he asked exasperated.

"Yeah, I heard you. I'm not calling him." Dean answered still staring out the window.

"Don't make me get my gun boy." Bobby said shaking his head. Dean turned around to face him.

"We are damn near kick-off for Armageddon; don't you think we got bigger fish at the moment?" Dean raised his voice slightly, clearly angry. His words hit the girls like a ton of bricks. Their lives could end at any moment.

"I know you're pissed. And I'm not making apologies for what he's done, but he's your-" Bobby said before Dean cut him off.

"Blood? He's my blood, is that what you were gonna say?" Dean interrupted

"He's your brother. And he's drowning." Bobby finished what he had been trying to say.

"Bobby, I tried to help him, I did. Look what happened." Dean said, looking like he was trying to hold back tears, his voice breaking slightly.

"So try again." Bobby told him, trying to get through to Dean, but the girls could see it was no use, he was past listening. They watched as Dean walked from the window to the other side of the room, shaking his head.

"It's too late." He stated.

"There's no such thing." Bobby disagreed.

"No, dammit!" Dean yelled startling the girls. "No. We gotta face the facts. Sam never wanted part of this family. He hated this life growing up. Ran away to Stanford first chance he got. Now it's like déjà vu all over again." Dean shook his head. "Well, I am sick and tired of chasing him." He said as he sat down on the couch. "Screw him, he can do what he wants." he muttered, trying to sound ignorant. Bobby and the girls could see clearly through his facade, and hear his voice almost break as he tried not to cry.

"You don't mean that." Bobby pointed out slightly angry.

"Yes I do, Bobby. Sam's gone. He's gone. I'm not even sure if he's still my brother anymore. If he ever was." Dean said looking down. The girls gasped, shocked.

"Dean!" Samantha scolded. Dean didn't look up, just shook his head. The girls looked over to Bobby who was leaning with his hands on his desk. They could hear his heavy breathing, as if he was fuming. Bobby suddenly wiped everything off his desk in one swift movement, quickly turning around to Dean, his face full of anger as he stormed towards him, causing Dean to stand up, his face hard, but slightly confused.

"You stupid, stupid son of a bitch! Well, boo hoo, I am so sorry your feelings are hurt, princess! Are you under the impression that family's supposed to make you feel good?! Make you an apple pie, maybe? They're supposed to make you miserable! That's why they're family!" Bobby yelled, like he had at the girls yesterday. They were terrified.

"I told him, 'you walk out that door, don't come back' and he walked out anyway! That was his choice!" Dean defended, his anger rising.

"You sound like a whiny brat." Bobby told him. Dean had enough and began walking away towards the window when Bobby's next words stopped him "No, you sound like your dad. Well, let me tell you something. Your dad was a coward." Dean turned around to face Bobby, the three girls completely forgotten; he was angry and slightly offended at Bobby's words.

"My dad was a lot of things, Bobby, but a coward?" Dean asked raising an eyebrow. The girls felt awkward as they listened, as if they weren't meant to hear this.

"He'd rather push Sam away than reach out to him. Well, that don't strike me as brave. You are a better man than your daddy ever was." Dean pulled a face that said he didn't believe him but Bobby continued. "So you do both of us a favour. Don't be him." Dean nodded at this before turning around to the window, when he suddenly disappeared. All three girls turned to look at Bobby, seeing the same look of confusion on his face.

"Where the hell did he go?" Jess asked.

"Well if I had to guess, I'm gonna say the angels took him." Bobby stated.

"Why?" Samantha asked.

"Dean went out to pray to Cas while Sam was in the panic room. Apparently he agreed to help the angels when they needed him. Idjit" Bobby explained what Dean had told him.

"So what do we do?" Beth asked.

"There's not much we can do except wait. Sam's not gonna answer to us and I'm sure those angels won't give a crap about what we have to say." Bobby told them.

"So what we just sit here and wait for the world to end, wait to die?" Samantha asked raising an eyebrow.

"We just wait." Bobby said shrugging his shoulders.

Dean had been gone for a while now, and the girls hadn't stopped freaking out since. Bobby was trying not to freak out as to upset the girls, but he was just as worried as they were. Night had fallen and the girls and Bobby were sitting in the living room. The girls were lounging, all of them tired from the stress of the past few days when intense pain gripped them all, causing them to scream and hold their heads. Bobby looked towards all three girls extremely confused and worried, having no idea what to do. He moved over to where the three girls were, asking what was wrong.

"Make it stop." Samantha screamed. Bobby had no idea what was wrong when all three girls suddenly stopped, sitting up straight, terror on their faces.

"You girls alright?" Bobby asked. What came out of all three girls mouths next scared him the most.

"Lucifer has risen." the three girls spoke in sync.
