The girls arrived at a motel room in Salt Lake City, Utah. It wasn't the nicest motel they've stayed in since being in America but it's all they could afford having little money on them and not having stopped to hustle some more. Once they entered the room they dumped their bags on the faded grey, which was once cream, carpeted floor.

"Dean's an ass" Jess muttered falling onto a bed causing a small cloud of dust to come up from the musty sheets.

"You can say that again" Samantha muttered sitting on one of the wooden chairs next to the small table by the wall

"Dean's an ass" Beth repeated grinning, proud of her joke.

"Fuck you" Samantha said to her rolling her eyes

"You love me." Beth smirked

"No for the last time I hate you bitch." Samantha said anger seeping into her voice

"Well now that's a bit rude isn't it?" Beth said her sarcasm just covering the actual hurt that comment caused her.

"Yes indeed" Jess said in a posh voice trying to lighten the mood, as usual.

"Go die in a hole you slut." Samantha spat at Beth

"Okay could you help me dig one I'm not exactly capable." Beth said gesturing to the wheelchair she was still in, causing Samantha's anger to rise.

"Oh you think you're so funny smartass." Samantha she asked standing up so she towered over Beth who had to remain sitting

"I am funny. Hell I'm fucking hilarious" Beth said grinning, trying not to get angry herself.

"In your dreams." Samantha spat

"No the only thing in our dreams is Lucifer." Jess intervened before the argument could get out of hand

"Way to bring us back to reality Jess. Thanks a lot." Samantha muttered sitting back down, defeated.

"Sorry but that is something we need to worry about" Jess said seriously

"I dream about Lucifer every night" Beth said smirking "if ya know what I mean" she added winking.

"Beth!" Jess said shocked

"What?" Beth asked faking innocence.

"You whore." Samantha joked.

"Now who corrupted your mind you were a delicate little flower." Beth asked with mock concern

"Your mum." Samantha said grinning at the joke they used to say all the time

"Ouch that's a real low blow Sammie." Jess said sarcastically

"I don't care." Samantha said bitterly

"Bedtime for Sammie me thinks." Beth said sweetly

"Death time for Beth and Jess me thinks." Samantha muttered under her breath

"Look now she's talking to herself. Sammie go to bed it's past your bedtime." Jess said as if she were talking to a child

"Don't tell me what to do." Samantha said angrily

"Yeah Jess don't tell her what to do." Beth changing her mind and siding with Samantha

"What five seconds ago you were bitching at her now you're taking her side." Jess shocked and a little bit angry

"I do what I want." Beth said shrugging her shoulders

"Bitch." Jess said bitterly

"Jerk." Beth said grinning at her

"What are you guys Sam and Dean now?" Samantha asked grumpily

"Yes and you are Cas." Jess said grinning like a little kid

"Let's go hunting!" Beth said in her fake Dean voice

"And what get killed? Great idea Beth." Samantha said sarcastically. "Plus Dean told us to go live normal lives. Him and Sam kept us alive this long, don't we at least owe him this?"

"Sammie as I said earlier Dean's an ass." Jess said repeating her earlier statement

"And how would we ever fit in anywhere? We're daughters of Lucifer, he comes to us in our dreams, and anything can set us off even just a small noise. We're fucked beyond imagination. And what happens when weird shit starts happening? Are we just gonna bat our eyes and ignore it? At least if we keep hunting we'll be on top of the game and ready for anything." Beth ranted

"Yeah I guess you're right." Samantha said agreeing with Beth

"Sammie I'm always right." Beth said proudly

"God you're up yourself." Samantha complained

"No I just pretend I am." Beth said honestly

"So what do we do now?" Jess asked

"How about sleep? 'Cause I'm tired as fuck." Beth suggested smiling

"I second that." Samantha said raising her hand

"Good idea." Jess muttered. Jess and Samantha helped Beth out of her wheelchair and into the single bed.

"Should we..." Jess said trailing off at the end

"What?" Samantha asked concerned

"I was gonna say salt the windows and doors. But then I realised we don't have any salt." Jess explained

"We'll go get some in the morning." Beth said yawning

"Okay." Samantha mumbled

The other two girls got into the queen bed, and the three of them drifted off to sleep. The sound of their names being called woke them up. The voice sounded familiar, like they had heard it once before. It wasn't until they looked over to the corner of the room, when they realised who it was.

"Lucifer." Samantha said out loud. He was dressed the same as the last time they saw him, but he looked slightly more dishevelled.

"That's right." Lucifer smiled at the three girls. It wasn't a warm smile, or the kind that made you feel invited. Although it seemed like he was trying. Samantha and Jess moved out of bed going to stand by Beth who was sitting in her bed, unable to stand on her own.

"What do you want?" Jess asked

"Can't I visit my granddaughters?" Lucifer asked almost hurt sounding

"No." Beth told him as the other two helped her up, and they moved away from Lucifer.

"Well now that's not very nice of you." Lucifer replied pouting

"Coming from the devil? Really?" Beth asked raising her eyebrow

"You misunderstand me. I gave you life. I just want you by my side." Lucifer said with fake sincerity

"So you can ruin the world no thank you." Beth said sarcastically

"So does this mean your answer is still no? You will not allow me to split myself until I get my true vessel?" he asked the three girls

"No" All three girls said at once

"Well then I guess I have no choice. I'm not exactly one for second chances, but I took my chances with you girls. I hoped my family would be a little more considerate. If you do not wish to help me, then I only have one option." Lucifer said bitterly

"What do you mean?" Samantha asked terrified, all three girls were slowly backing away as he approached them.

"You are no longer of use to me. So I must kill you all." Lucifer said no emotion in his voice

"K… k… kill us?" Samantha stuttered, barely able to speak

"Please don't we won't cause any harm we promise." Jess begged

"But you are determined to stop me. Therefore you are on the wrong side." Lucifer said smiling evilly.

"Look we won't do anything okay, I mean we're just three teenage girls. We have nothing. What are we to do?" Beth asked the fear obvious in her voice

"I know your thoughts. You plan to continue hunting. You might not be with those Winchesters but those powers of yours, I can feel them getting stronger, the longer I have been free, the stronger you get. How can I let you run free, when I have no idea what you will become?" Lucifer finished and stalked towards the three girls, his cold blue eyes felt like they were piercing through their souls. "Now let me see, what's the best way to do this?" Lucifer mused to himself.

"Um to not." Jess spoke up, much braver than the other two. Lucifer stopped and turned to look at her then, and she shrunk back slightly. He seemed to consider something for a moment, his eyes squinting as he stared at her before his face broke out in an unfriendly grin. The girls didn't dare speak now. He looked from one to the other but he did not speak, just stared. He lifted his hand, and twisted it in a sharp movement. All three girls let out piercing screams, as loud cracks spread through the room, and then the bang as all three of them fell to the floor.

"I wouldn't advise talking back, or I'll break more than a few legs." he said looking down at the three helpless girls

"Fuck you." Beth spat. Lucifer sighed before he spoke.

"You know I was going to be nice about this. Kill you quick. But I think it might be a little more fun if I let you die slow." Lucifer smiled again, pausing and looking around the room before settling back on the three girls on the floor, gripping their legs and trying to fight the pain. It was then that the pain went from just a broken leg, to their whole body. They started shivering, breaking out into a cold sweat.

"What are you doing to us?" Samantha gasped

"The Bubonic Plague was always one of my favourites, slow and yet painful, horrible. I'm just making it all happen a little quicker." He smiled. Beth began to feel ill, while Samantha began coughing, unable to stop. Their breathing became heavier, as they tried to breathe through the pain, occasionally screaming as Lucifer watched on. Samantha was on her stomach, her aching arms barely holding her up as she coughed up blood onto the motel floor. Jess began to lose feeling in her fingers and toes, and as she looked down she could see they were a dark black green colour. Beth's ill feeling soon got worse and she started vomiting up a dark red substance, soon realising she was vomiting blood. The pain seemed to go on forever, and the girls lost track of time as they lay on the floor writhing in pain, coughing up blood. The pain gradually got worse, the girls slipping in and out of consciousness as they felt themselves grow weaker. Lucifer watched the whole time, pleased and unfazed by the sight of his three granddaughters slowly dying on the floor. He watched as each one took their last breath and fell into the darkness of death.

Dean had felt bad for making the girls leave, but he didn't want them to have the same life he had, they should have been safe now that the demons no longer needed to break seals. Sam had returned after Bobby called him and told him what Dean had done. Sam and Bobby had been mad that Dean would let them go by themselves unprotected but Dean had shut them up and they attempted not to think about it. Of course Sam had called the girls late that night without Dean knowing, but they had ignored his call, so he assumed they didn't want to talk, probably unhappy with Dean and therefore him. It was two days later when the boys caught a case.

"Strange deaths in Salt Lake City. Three people have been found dead with Bubonic Plague like symptoms. Authorities are telling people not to worry, as none of the victims hold any trace of the virus but cannot explain why the victims have any of the symptoms." Sam read from his laptop.

"Well that is a little weird. Let's go check it out." Dean said taking one more bite of his burger before getting up.

"Yup." Sam agreed packing up his laptop and following Dean to the Impala.

…...

The darkness was all consuming, time seemed to be non-existent and they were all unsure of how long they were in it until they broke through. They found themselves in the motel room, which now had several masked policemen, and ambulance workers inspecting the room. They were confused; the last thing they remembered had something to do with Lucifer and immense pain. Beth was surprised to find she could walk fine, despite having a broken leg.

"Hello?" Samantha called, but no one but Beth and Jess seemed to hear her. The people surrounding them continued their jobs, taking photos and inspecting and talking over something over the far side of the room that the girls could not see.

"What's happening?" Beth asked the other two.

"I don't know" Jess replied. Jess began walking towards the other side of the room and the other two girls followed close behind her. What they saw next shocked them. It was them, lying on the floor unmoving, surrounded in blood and ghostly pale with black dots covering parts of their skin.

"Are we dead?"

"They died painful that's for sure. Poor girls." One of the men said.

"Oh my god we're dead." Jess said shocked

"What do we do?" Samantha asked

"Um. I don't know. I've never been really faced with this situation before" Beth said

…..

The boys had made it to Salt Lake City and got a motel room where they were currently changing into suits. "Okay so we'll go to the coroner check out the bodies, see if it's anything weird." Dean said doing up his tie.

"What's our cover?" Sam asked walking out of the bathroom dressed.

"CDC." Dean said holding up two ID cards.

"Alright". Sam and Dean went out to the Impala and drove to the coroner's office. Sam walked up to the woman at the counter. "Hello I'm Dr Jerry Kaplan of the centres for disease control. This is Dr Patrick Moore; we're here about the strange deaths with symptoms of the Bubonic Plague." Sam said, holding up his ID as Dean did the same.

"Uh sure Dr Walker should be in his office. It's just through there." the woman said pointing to a door.

"Thanks" Sam said smiling before turning around and following Dean through the door. A somewhat elderly man sat behind his desk, looking through a file.

"Dr Walker?" Dean asked

"That's me." the man replied.

"I'm Dr Patrick Moore this is Dr Jerry Kaplan, were with the CDC. We're here about the strange deaths like bubonic plague." Dean

"Oh yes." The man stood up from his desk and grabbed a pile of folders. "It was three girls, teenagers, about eighteen." Sam and Dean shared a look of worry. It had to be a coincidence. "Follow me." the man instructed walking through a set of doors. Sam and Dean followed. The three girls had been waiting around the morgue, having been pulled by their bodies. When the door swung open, the girls looked up to see the doctor walkthrough followed by two men dressed in suits.

"Dean" Samantha yelled happily but Dean didn't hear a word.

"Sammie he can't hear us. Neither of them can." Jess said putting a hand on Samantha's shoulder. The girls sighed, how were they going to tell the boys anything.

"I can't understand it, they seem healthy. But almost all signs point towards Bubonic Plague. We took extra precaution, but uh, when I tested their blood there was no trace of any diseases." Dr Walker explained to Sam and Dean

"You say almost all signs?" Sam questioned.

"Well all three girls sustained a broken leg before death, but one of them had a previous break, and stab wound about a week or two old." Dr Walker explained. Dr Walker turned away from the boys to pull out the bodies of the three girls and so he missed the boys facial expressions and the look they shared. It had been no more than a week since the girls were attacked and Beth ended up in hospital with the exact same injuries the doctor described. When they turned to see the doctor pull the sheet away from the face of the first body, their faces dropped. It was Jess. Dean felt the guilt creep up on him. He had made them leave, sent them away with nothing to protect them, and here they were on a case, and it turns out to be them. The doctor then continued, revealing Samantha and Beth. The boy's hearts broke, these were the girls they had saved, the girls they considered their family, their little sisters. Sam was mad at Dean for making them go, and at himself, for not going after them. The girls watched the boy's facial expressions closely, as pain, guilt, sadness and even their eyes getting wet as they tried not to cry. As happy as they were to see the boys they were a little miffed at their reaction. Dean had told them they didn't matter, that they had saved them and that was it. His reaction confused them, but hurt them the same. They hated to see the boys upset. Samantha got up and walked over to them, reaching out to put a hand on Dean's shoulder. The other two followed, wanting to comfort the boys but not really able. Although they were mad at Dean for sending them away, they couldn't deny that Lucifer would have done the same thing.

The boys felt the air around them get cold, and they both looked at each other, to see if the other felt the same.

"You boys look like you've seen a ghost." Dr Walker mused.

"Uh sorry, could you um describe each of their symptoms?" Sam tried to sound confident and professional, but his voice cracked slightly.

"Well all three as you can see have black dots or areas of black covering their skin. This one here suffered much worse gangrene than the other two." He showed the boys Jess's fingers. "All three coughed or vomited up blood. It was uh dripping around their mouths and police say the crime scene was quite a mess. Anyway as for the other symptoms those are not as obvious. It's possible they suffered from fevers and chills and I would suggest they were in quite a lot of pain. It would have been slow." The boys could hear sadness in the doctor's voice, clearing disliking the way they died. The boys however felt even worse. They had died slowly, painfully, horribly and they had no idea why, or who or what might have done it.

"Have you decided on a cause of death?" Dean asked through clenched teeth.

"Well essentially their hearts just gave out. That's the best explanation I can give." the doctor replied.

"Okay thank you uh I just want to have a quick discussion with Dr Kaplan before we decide what to do."

"Sure. I'll just be through here." The doctor smiled and walked back out to his office.

"Dean-" Sam started

"Look Sam I'm sorry I shouldn't have made them go. I know it was stupid and I hate myself for it. They didn't deserve this." Dean said his voice cracking slightly

"Yeah I'm sorry too. I uh called them and they didn't answer and I uh just thought they were sleeping or didn't want to talk." Sam said quietly

"Did you feel the sudden coldness before when the doctor was pulling off the sheets?" Dean asked not wanting to talk about whose fault it was anymore

"Uh yeah actually." Sam said looking around the room for any signs of supernatural activity.

"Girls are you there?" Dean said out loud, more hoping than anything, but also wishing the girls were at peace.

"We're here Dean." all three girls said out loud, even though they knew the boys couldn't hear them.

"Girls if you can hear me. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean any of it. I wish I could take it all back." Dean said looking around, a single man tear slipping down his face. The room fell quiet, Sam deciding to break the awkward silence.

"So what do you think did it?" Sam asked

"Demons maybe or angels getting creative. I know one thing though. Whoever did it, I'm gonna kick their freaking ass." Dean said his anger rising

"Dean no" Beth yelled. If the boys went against Lucifer they would never win. He was too powerful.

"So what are we going to do? We can't just leave them… uh their bodies here." Sam said gesturing to the three dead girls

"Well we can uh take them with us." Dean suggested, way to confidently.

"And how are we going to do that Dean? Where are we going to put them? The coroners not going to let us just put them in the back of the impala." Sam explained

"We can try." Dean said much too confidently. He walked towards the door leading back to the doctor's office, Sam following behind him not so sure. "Uh hey doc we're taking these bodies back to headquarters."

"Why? I tested them they're clean." Dr Walker said

"We're just taking precautions in the interest of our people. You know just to be safe." Dean explained trying to sound as professional as possible when all he felt like doing was ganking some son of a bitch

"Alright." Dr Walker said

"And we're going to need you to uh evacuate the building while we move them out. Just a safety precaution." Sam added

"Uh, sure." Dr Walker agreed although a little unsure

"Oh and uh anything they had on them we need that too." Dean said quickly

"I'll uh get an officer to collect it from evidence." Dr Walker said

"Thank you." Sam said

The boys had taken the girls bodies out the back and placed them carefully in the trunk of the Impala. The girls were a little surprised at how easily the boys managed this. No one tried to stop them, it was so easy. The girls ended up in the back of the Impala, in their usual seats, their bodies pulling them along.

"What do we do now Dean?" Sam asked

"Give them a hunter's funeral. That way they can rest in peace. And then, we find out what did it." Dean said his knuckles white from gripping the wheel so tight out of anger.

"Dean please don't." All three girls begged their cries useless. The boys were never going to hear.

"Dean you realise that if they're still here, that it's possible it's going to hurt them." Sam explained

"It's better than them suffering. They deserve better. I failed them Sam. I promised I would protect them. Instead I just left them out to die. Dammit!" Dean slammed his hand on the steering wheel in frustration.

"It's not all your fault Dean. I failed them too." Sam said sighing sadly staring at the road ahead refusing to look at his brother

"No you don't understand. The look in their eyes when I told them they had to go. That I didn't care. It almost killed me. The hurt, and betrayal, and then the anger. And I knew... that... that there was no taking it back. How could they ever forgive me for that? But at least they would be okay. Now I don't even have that." Silence filled the car. Sam unsure on how to comfort Dean, and the girls, not that they could be heard, speechless in the back seat. "We should call Bobby. Tell him what's happened." Dean muttered breaking the silence.

"Uh yeah." Sam agreed. "You wanna tell him?" Sam asked. Dean just shook his head. Sam pulled out his phone and dialled Bobby's number.

"Heya Bobby." Sam said not bothering to put the phone on speaker, unsure if Dean would like Bobby's reaction. The girls could barely hear anything on the other line.

"You're probably not going to like this." The girls gathered Bobby's reaction would be something along the lines of 'Spit it out kid'.

"It's about the girls." Sam paused waiting for Bobby's reaction. Only for Bobby to tell him to continue. "That uh case we found, it was them. They're dead Bobby." Nothing but an intake of breath and silence was heard from Bobby for a while. The girls gathered Bobby's next question was about who had killed them.

"We uh don't know. We're gonna go look at the motel where they were staying. But the coroner said they had symptoms of The Bubonic Plague but they weren't infected. Their hearts just gave out." Bobby must have asked another question.

"We uh managed to take them. We're uh gonna give them a hunter's funeral, so they can be at peace. They've suffered enough." Sam took a quick look at Dean, seeing him tense, gripping the steering wheel too tight.

"Okay you too Bobby." Sam hung up the phone and turned to Dean. "Bobby's gonna help us, see if he can find anything." The girls didn't like that idea. It's bad enough that Sam and Dean are keen to take on Lucifer, but Bobby too. Everyone they had left is going to die, just like them.

...

They arrived at the motel where the girls had been staying. Dean paused staring at the motel wishing this was all a dream. He turned to look in the rear view mirror, half expecting to see the girls in the back seat, but instead he saw nothing but emptiness; his eyes dropping. He cleared his throat before turning to Sam.

"You go find out what room they were in. I'll uh call Cas; see if he might know something." Dean muttered. Sam half smiled at Dean, before getting out of the impala and walking towards the reception of the motel. Dean watched Sam go, before turning again to look in the rear view mirror. Again he saw nothing, sighing deeply; he got out of the car, slamming his door. He walked around to the passenger side door, leaning against it. He could clearly see Sam talking to a woman at the desk.

"Cas buddy I need your help." Dean began praying to Castiel. Unsure if Castiel would be able to find him with the engravings on his ribs. "The girls, they're uh..." He wasn't sure what to say. "They're dead Cas and I... I need you to come to uh the Roadway Motel in Salt Lake City, Utah. I don't know what to do." Dean was looking up at the sky now, hoping Castiel could hear him. "I'm sorry." He said to no one in particular.

"Hey." Sam said, Dean not realising he had come out of the office. "Uh room 102." He told Dean.

"Okay, let's go." Dean said standing up straight and heading to the room where the girls had been staying. Neither of the boys said a word. The girls followed behind

"Hey, Dean" Sam said as they into the room

"Yeah?" Dean asked walking around the room examining the windows and door, anywhere someone or something could have entered.

"What if we don't burn them? What if they're still here?" Sam asked "We could try and communicate with them and find out what actually happened" he said. Dean opened his mouth to reply but was cut off by a fluttering of wings.

"That won't be necessary" Castiel said in the middle of the room

"Why not?" Dean asked almost angrily, he wanted to talk to the girl's one more time; he wanted to apologise to tell them he still cared about them, that they'd always be family no matter what.

"This was no demon, or simple angel. This feels like Lucifer's doing" Castiel said looking around the room

"Lucifer did this?" Sam asked

"Yes I believe so." Castiel answered

"Well than what are we waiting for? Let's go get that son of a bitch" Dean said angrily

"Wait, the real question is why? They're his family." Sam asked. It didn't make sense to him; surely the girls would be of some use to Lucifer, especially with their powers why would he kill them? He must have had a reason.

"I don't care why all I know is that he killed our girls, so we're gonna kill him. Plain and simple, Sammy" Dean stated angrily.
