The girls woke up, hearing their names being called. They were back in their motel in Salt Lake City and very confused.
"Was I the only one who dreamed all of that?" Beth asked
"It wasn't a dream, technically. It was real, well at least for you girls." someone answered their question. They knew that voice, they had just heard it before they woke up.
"Why did you do that to us?" Beth asked, still feeling the pain of their death.
"To show you what will happen if you continue to say no to me. I don't want to kill you, but if you keep saying no, I'll have no choice." Lucifer replied, like it was obvious.
"Then just do it. We're not saying yes." Jess was defiant, there was no way they were going to give up now.
"Really? You would let the ones you love get killed, just because you were being selfish?" Lucifer's question hurt.
"That wouldn't happen, they don't care about us." Beth muttered, upset. All of the girls had thought that they had found a new family, but they were wrong.
"They told us they don't care, so what you're doing is pointless." Jess agreed with Beth.
"How do you know they weren't lying?" Lucifer asked, he looked sincere, which confused the girls, they expected him to be smirking, or have an evil glint in his eye.
"They wouldn't lie about something like that." All of the girls were shocked, but they knew Lucifer was just tricking them. The boys didn't care, although they still hoped.
"They would to protect you. But you see, if you said yes to me you wouldn't need protecting. You could fight for yourselves. Fight with me." Lucifer offered out his hand when he did this, the girls just stared at it.
"We don't want anything to do with you." Jess snapped out of it, always the one to stand up for the three of them.
"But Jess, Sam and Dean and even Bobby, they need to be out there fighting and saving the world. Everyone will die if there is no one to stop the apocalypse." Samantha's resolve was wavering.
"No Sammie." Jess and Beth said instantly, they wouldn't let her give up now, they had fought too long, and lost too much.
"Jess I can't do this anymore. I can't fight any more. I miss my brother." Samantha was breaking, her eyes filling with tears. This was the first time in a long time she had thought about him, having tried to repress the memories of her brother's body, bloody and lifeless on the ground. She was often all he had, and he had died because of her.
"Sammie don't give up right now, saying yes to him doesn't bring your brother back or any of our families back" Beth tried to comfort her, but it only made it worse. Samantha rose from her bed, standing up to Lucifer; hands on her hips.
"Well kill us then, maybe we can find our families that way." Samantha spat at him, hoping her small amount of defiance would be amusing to him, and then maybe he would actually do it.
"So it's your families you want well then." Lucifer mused over this momentarily and then he was gone.
…..
When Beth woke up she wasn't in her bed at the motel but in a bed she hadn't been in for just under a year, it was her room at her house in New Zealand.
"What the fuck?" she breathed. She reached over to the light switch that she knew was right by her bed and looked around the dimly lit room as the light warmed up slowly lighting the room better and better she got a look around. The room was exactly as she left it, the same clothes on the floor, her desk piled high with paper, books and make up, the guitar and ukulele gathering dust in the corner by the bookshelf. The pictures and notes from friends, her bucket list all stuck to the wall opposite her bed. Everything was the same as it was a little over a year ago. She wanted to believe it was real but she knew it was probably Lucifer; the others were probably having a similar experience.
…...
Samantha was standing in her living room face to face with her younger brother. Tears brimming in her eyes, she hadn't seen him in over a year. She missed him so much it was painful seeing him again.
"Regan?" she asked quietly reaching out for him. She wanted it to be real, she was praying for it to be her little brother; she needed it to be him. "Is that you?"
"It's me, sis" he said smiling at her. Samantha was quick to embrace him in a hug the two of them falling to the floor both of them in tears.
…
Jess was awoken in her old bed as well but instead of waking naturally she was awoken by being attacked by her two dogs.
"Ah what the hell" she yelled sitting up abruptly. "Bonnie?" she asked as the bearded collier licked her face. "I swear to fuck if this is Lucifer I'm gonna kill him" she muttered angrily getting out of bed and walking into her desk "Ow you son of a bitch" she muttered "Okay let's go find mum and dad" she said to her dogs rubbing her hip which she had just banged on the desk.
…
"Beth remember you said you'd help Jess setup for this mid-winter barbeque you're making us all go to" Beth's Mum called to her through the bedroom door. The mention of the barbeque caused Beth to turn to the door. The barbeque? The one where everyone died? No way were they going to that
"I'm uh sick" Beth said in her best fake sick voice
"No you're not, now get your lazy ass out of bed" her mum yelled angrily. Beth rolled her eyes. She forgot what her mum was like, she'd been making her nicer in her memory.
…..
"Sammie" Regan said pulling away from Samantha who still had tears falling from her eyes. "I know I'm dead" he said causing Samantha to look up at him
"No, no you're not, you're here, you're with me" she said almost hysterical. She needed this to be real, she needed her brother, this couldn't be fake she'd do anything to make it real.
"I am, Sammie, I know I am" he said sadly pulling her off the ground "but I know what you can do to bring me back" he said
"What?" she asked "I'll do anything just tell me what I need to do" she said desperately
….
"Jessica, you're awake, good. You need to get ready. Samantha and Beth will be here soon to help set up for the barbeque" Jess' mum, Helen, said as Jess walked into the kitchen to find her mum making salads and her dad eating breakfast at the table.
"The barbeque?" Jess asked confused running a hand through her hair.
"The barbeque, tonight, that the three of you decided to plan in the middle of winter" Helen said rolling her eyes at her daughter's forgetfulness. It suddenly clicked in Jess' head that it was the 14th of June 2008 the day of the barbeque that changed their lives forever, the day of their families' death. Then she decided to change that, she decided that this could be a second chance, maybe it wasn't Lucifer maybe it was someone giving them a second chance to change it, and she was going to change it. At that moment she heard a car pull up her driveway
"That will be one of them now" her dad said as she ran out to the driveway to greet her friend hoping she knew of Sam and Dean and that she wasn't alone in this.
"Beth!" she yelled as Beth's got out of her small blue car
"Hey" Beth said smiling unsure if Jess knew what was going to happen tonight and not sure how to go about figuring out if she did or not. Jess however was more to the point
"Do you know Sam and Dean?" Jess asked quickly
"Yes thank god, do you know why we're here?" Beth asked looking around
"I think someone's given us a second chance" Jess said smiling "Do you know?" she asked Beth who was unloading some food her mum made her bring from the back of her car.
"I think its Lucifer, remember the first time he came to us he was like this could be your life. What if this time it's just him showing us what happened, ya know like you could have all this back but you need to let me possess you" Beth said in her usual cup half empty attitude
"Can't we just think this is a second chance and try and change it?" Jess asked practically begging Beth "Even if it is Lucifer, can we try and change it please?" She asked
"I'll try my damn hardest" Beth said smiling at Jess. Knowing she was doing this for her friends not her, she was happy with Sam and Dean, as bad as it sounds she didn't want her family back, she was happier where she was. As soon as Samantha showed up the two girls realised they were alone in this fight, Samantha had no memory of Sam and Dean. For her this was present day, nothing had happened. How were these two girls going to take on the amount of demons it took to take out an entire party, how were they to do it?
…..
"You need to say yes to Lucifer, Sammie" Regan said causing Samantha to back away from him slightly. "You need to do this for me please" he begged
"I can't Regan, you know I can't" she said sadly "don't make me do this please" she begged
"Sammie, it's the only way, think of how much better your life will be with me back, and not just me, mum and dad too, our grandparents, our cousins, everyone back, alive and well all you need to do is say yes, please" Regan said although he no longer sounded like the Regan Samantha knew and loved.
…..
Jess and Samantha had been sent inside to bring the desserts out to the party guests, Beth had managed to avoid doing that and was on the lookout for demons, any sign of them. Jess and Beth were ready to change the night's events.
"Beth, go inside and help Samantha and Jess" Beth's mum said walking over to her.
"They're fine, mother" Beth said the moody teenager in her showing as she looked around the garden for any sign.
"Don't backchat me, this is your party to now go help them, off you go" her mum said shooing her in the direction of the kitchen. She started walking in the direction of the kitchen hoping her mum would walk away and go back to socialising so she could go back to guarding but no such luck, her mother stood there until she was in the kitchen.
"Beth, grab the cheesecakes will you?" Samantha asked walking past her with a bowl of trifle
"How about I take that off your hands and you get the cheesecake" Beth said reaching for the trifle wanting to get back outside as soon as possible.
"Go get the cheesecake, Bitch" Samantha said smiling as she walked past Beth and out to the garden
"Jerk" Beth muttered as Samantha walked outside. Beth headed to the kitchen to find Jess rushing out with a bowl of some form of dessert that was dropped as soon as the screaming started.
"Shit" Jess said as her and Beth ran outside hoping to help in any way possible, but they were too late. Everyone was gone, limp bodies and blood everywhere "God damn it not again!" Jess yelled angrily kicking the grass "Fuck! Where's Samantha?" she asked.
"Hiding somewhere probably" Beth said unsure how to react to the scene in front of her, it was the same as the first time, everyone was in exactly the same place exactly the same position except one blonde head near the table "Shit" she said running towards the body she knew to be Samantha "Jess I found her!" she yelled. Jess turned to see Beth kneeling by Samantha's limp body her blond hair stained red with blood
"No no no no no" Jess said running towards her. "This isn't how it's supposed to happen. It doesn't happen like this!" Jess cried falling to her knees beside Beth.
"It's terrible isn't it," a man said walking out from behind the house "such potential was wasted tonight, children who were going to go on and save lives, win gold medals, now dead with no future" he said approaching Jess and Beth
"Lucifer" Jess spat standing up, her anger replacing her sadness. He looked worse than when they last saw him, like he had deteriorated over night.
"Well you don't look to great do you. Still no luck with your true vessel?" Beth stepped up, her anger seeping through her words. He had done this too many times, and now they had lost their best friend.
"This vessel, well, unfortunately he can't hold me for much longer, and my true vessel well let's just say they're being a little difficult, I sure could use you three" he said "you say yes to me, I'll bring your families back you can have your life back, you go to university like you planned you can do what you want" Lucifer bargained again.
"No" Beth said as Jess nodded her head
"Yes" she said quietly. Jess looked down, away from her friend, expecting the look of shock, betrayal and anger that would cross Beth's face. Jess had always tried to be the strong one. She was the one they looked up to when they were scared or awkward. But this time Jess couldn't be strong, like Samantha, she missed her brother, and her parents, even her pets. She missed the world where she was just another teenager, who wanted to make it big. Being the daughter of Lucifer and being hunted to death had taken its toll on Jess, she just couldn't do it anymore.
"Excellent" he said taking Jess' hand and bringing her to stand next to him against Beth
"Beth?" he asked
…..
"Regan you know I can't" Samantha repeated "please"
"Oh Samantha help your brother" Regan said and his face and body changed to reveal another man.
"Lucifer" Samantha said sadly. How could she be so stupid to think that was her brother, of course it wasn't it was just Lucifer again, trying to get her to say yes.
"Say yes to me Samantha, and your brother can come back" he said smiling kindly at Samantha "Say yes to me and your family will be with you, like nothing ever happened, Sam and Dean a dream you'll forget about" he said.
"No" Samantha said refusing to let him get to her, he wouldn't win.
"You can have a normal life, you can do everything you always wanted" he said.
"I say yes and you'll give me my brother back, you promise?" she asked
"I'm a man of my word" he said smiling at her
"Yes" she said "but how are you are going to get the others to say yes?" she asked she thought Jess would be too strong willed and Beth wouldn't be bribed by her family, they never got on.
"Don't worry just come with me" he said taking her hand
…..
There was a flash of light and Samantha appeared by Jess facing Beth
"You're kidding me," Beth said "Samantha what did you do?" she asked anger evident in her voice
"He said he'd bring Regan back" Samantha said sadly. She felt slightly ashamed under the angry gaze of her best friend, but she wanted her brother and her family back.
"You realise he's Lucifer right? Not exactly a man of his word" Beth pointed out. She felt bad for her friend, the close bond her and her brother shared was something Beth had always wished for. She knew that losing Regan killed Samantha, but she didn't want to give up, she didn't want to be back with her family. Sam and Dean and those two girls facing her were her family.
"Oh you've been letting those angels twist your little mind" Lucifer said sadly "my own blood and they've turned you on me"
"You may be blood but you're not family" she spat
"Beth please do it for us, we want our families back, we know it was rough for you back then, but it's rough for us now" Jess said "we just want to go back to how it was, don't you?" she asked
"No" Beth said simply of course she didn't she hated herself back then. Her two best friends about to leave her for university, stuck with a family that belittled her in a job she hated, why would she want to go back? At least now she had a purpose, a family who loved her and cared for her.
"Please Beth I just want my brother back," Samantha said the tears falling from her eyes
"You once said you'd do anything for us, this is it, this is anything" Jess said tears falling from her eyes too
"Guys, please, think of Sam and Dean, they're our family, they'd be so pissed if we did this to them" Beth tried to argue, but she knew it was pointless, none of them truly believed the boys cared for them that much. She could see on their faces that they saw right through her argument.
"When this is over you can go back to them, you don't have to go back to your family, to your normal life" Lucifer said
"Please" Samantha begged. Upon looking at her friends and how sad they were, how desperate they were to go back to their families and their old life she knew what her answer was.
"Yes" she said
