She was wrapped up in a blanket watching the fireplace in the library. Grimoires had been forgotten in favor of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park, and she should be drinking tea, but Klaus had spoiled her in a big, three marshmallows, steaming mug of cocoa.
Bonnie put the book down and leaned her back against the pillows, giggling to herself. It felt like the perfect childhood days she spent with her grams, when Sheila would let her skip class - because she was probably hangover or still hammered from the other night, anyways - and they would spend the entire day talking, drinking herbal tea, and warming up by the fireplace. Those were her most cherished childhood memories.
Thinking about her Grams made her heart ache, and gave her hateful thoughts towards Elena. She knew she should hate Damon for it too, but the entry on her old journal said they were going to open the tomb because Elena asked, not Damon. And Sheila Bennett died in the process.
Bonnie sneezed, and tried go back to Mansfield Park. Thinking about her Grams and her former friends compromised her concentration. And Klaus said that, the sooner she let go the spite, the sooner she would be able to do magic again. It was all about having control of herself.
She didn't finish the page, because he knocked on the open door before she could get to the bottom line. Klaus had a white sweater on, and looked every bit as the pretty rich-boy he was - but not a bit as dangerous.
She greeted him warmly, and the broad smile made her sneeze again. Klaus frowned.
"Are you sure this is just a cold, love? I still think we should call you a doctor. I promise you I will not compel them."
Bonnie laughed, the sound a little muffled from her slightly constipated nose.
"I'm 'kay, Klaus. Just need to rest a little and stay warm. I'll be better by tomorrow, You'll see."
He shook his head and went to sit with her on the floor.
"I should have not taken you in the rain. Has been so long since I last got sick… I forgot how these things work."
She grabbed his hand and placed it in her lap.
"Hey, if a little cold is the price of dancing in the rain like I'm in a cheesy RomCom, I don't mind getting one every week, okay?" It made Klaus grin, and Bonnie wondered if it was weird to be turned on by dimples. "It was my epic fairytale moment, and I think I haven't told you how much I appreciated that."
He brought her hand up for a kiss and Bonnie shivered. It had been weeks ago, but they still hadn't talked about the day Damon came, about that kiss. Klaus hadn't kissed her again, and she wondered if it had been just a show he put up to make Damon mad.
"It was my pleasure, love. But lets not do it again until you are completely recovered, shall we?" His other hand also came to trap hers. They were both strangely warm. "By the way, you have a visitor."
Bonnie groaned.
"Please, tell me it is not Damon again" She felt guilty as soon as the words left her mouth. Bonnie knew Damon was just trying to help, somehow. Only she didn't need his help anymore.
Klaus snorted, like the mere thought was absurd. He'd probably never let Damon approach the house again.
"Think a little more... blonde."
The mug that was halfway to her lips almost fell from her hand. That little bit of hope she didn't know she still had spread its wings inside her chest.
"No way! C-Caroline?"
Klaus frowned, but he didn't had the opportunity to answer.
"Please" the female voice brought her attention to the library's entrance "You are hurting my ego."
"Will you show our guest some manners, sister?"
Rebekah pouted at him playfully, but then grinned and walked over to the couple.
"Oh, I beg your pardon. How have you been, Witch?"
…
"Just a couple of days, Bonnie. I promise."
They were all alone in the library. Rebekah was upstairs unpacking her things.
"Why do you have to travel so suddenly and why can't I go with you?" She cursed herself mentally as soon as the words left her mouth. Of all the things, Bonnie did not want to sound like a needy girlfriend. "I mean, it was unexpected. Did something happen?" When he was about to answer that, she added: "And, just so we're clear, I appreciate your concern but, Klaus… I don't need your sister babysitting me."
He sighed.
"She is not babysitting you. And yes, a recent event out of Mystic Falls requires my attention. I wanted to bring you with me, love, but you got sick." He planted his index on her lips before she could say she wasn't. "I know it is just a cold, as you stubbornly call it, but still you have to rest properly. And I figured you could use some companionship. Hence Rebekah."
"Klaus…" His finger moved when it felt her warm breath. Now it was under her chin, as his thumb caressed her lower lip. Bonnie saw as his pupils widened, turning into big, round dark circles, surrounded by a thin ring of blue. She shivered.
"She is not babysitting you. If I wanted someone to keep you in line, Rebekah would be the last name on my list."
"He is right, you know." Rebekah's voice echoed from the entrance. Bonnie immediately felt Klaus backing off from her, and she missed the feeling of his hand on her face. "If you want to throw a party while he is gone, just say the word."
Bonnie smiled warmly. She and Rebekah may not have been the best of friends previously, but she had discovered much about the girl from her conversations with Klaus. And considering how wrong she had been about her life-long besties, maybe she should really think twice about her character-judgment skills.
"I really enjoy your presence here, Rebekah. I just don't like the fact that you had to come because of me."
Rebekah waved her hand dismissively. "I was bored in New York anyway. But I still hope to be rewarded. Jewelry, brother, and be generous. I dropped everything and took the first flight."
"Throw no parties and we might talk about it when I come back." Klaus said with a smirk, and Rebekah pouted.
"Next time you want one of my brothers, Bonnie, pick Kol. He is the fun one." She grabbed the book Bonnie had abandoned. "Oh, Austen! She was such a prude. Did you know she wrote a character after me? Caroline Bingley, from Pride and Prejudice. I loathed her so much for that I compelled her to never get married. It was quite scandalous back in the time."
"Well… That name kinda follows you around, huh? Caroline." Bonnie teased.
"Sense of humour! Oh, I like this one, Nik. We are going to have so much fun together." She sang the last sentence.
…
"Are you sure this is the place?"
They were standing by the ruins of what seemed to be an old house in North East England.
"My research points that she left the American Continent shortly after our transitioning." Elijah said, stoically. "County Durhan's records talk about a blessed woman who appeared here around the year 1060, and lived in this house. The first record of someone named 'Bennett' also comes from here, from a few years later. Then, yes. Out of all the sites in the world, this is the most likely to have been her last home."
"Very well. And how are we supposed to find it?"
"You were supposed to bring Bonnie along."
Klaus hissed, pursuing his lips. "She got sick. And she is not strong enough, anyway. Not yet."
Elijah turned around and started walking away. "Then maybe you should call Marcel and borrow one of his witches."
…
"You sure you can do it?"
Matt breathed out of his mouth, long and slow, while looking out of the window of Damon's car.
"Which part, exactly? The lying to my best friend or siding up with you, from all the people?"
Damon rolled his eyes.
"I would be more concerned with the 'lying to a one-thousand year old original vampire', if I were you. Klaus will rip off your throat if he even thinks you have an agenda. That's why you have to keep it true, pretty boy. Are you concerned about Bonnie?"
"Yes"
"Do you regret not standing up for her when Caroline and Elena bashed her?"
"Yes."
"Do you miss your hot witch bestie?"
Matt stared him deadly in the eyes. "I do."
"Then there's no 'lying' about your motivations. You will only have to… omit a few things. Your goals, for example, and my involvement."
Matt sighed and put his hand on the door handle. "Okay, then. good luck to me."
…
"How does it feel like?"
Bonnie turned around, startled by Rebekah's voice. For a moment, she forgot she was not alone in the house. With a wave of her hand, she let the flower petals she had been floating fall to the carpet.
"How does what feel like?"
The blonde smiled and walked over to sit next to her, picking up a bright yellow petal in her hand.
"Magic." Rebekah said the word as if it was the most exciting thing in the world. And Bonnie figured it probably was. "Having it back must feel like a miracle."
Bonnie nodded at her, lips tightly pressed into a smile.
"It does. I don't actually remember how it felt in the first time. But, right now? It's like I have been filled with pure… Power? It's gonna sound a little dumb, but I feel so empowered. And not just magically, but emotionally. It's like there's nothing in this world that could hurt me."
"I remember that feeling."
Rebekah trailed off, looking distant, and Bonnie's heart broke a little for her. As Esther's daughter, she also should have been a powerful witch back in their time. But then she was turned into a vampire, and never got to fully experience what it was like to have Nature flowing through her. Rebekah had lost her life at such a young age.
"Ayana always said that a witch's magic is the only thing a witch can rely on. You remind me of her." Bonnie raised a brow at her and Rebekah smiled. "Ayana, the blessed one. A powerful witch who lived in our time. She was my mother's most cherished friend, and my preceptor. Funny thing… Both of your names, Ayana and Bonnie, mean 'beautiful'. And 'Bennett' actually means…" Bonnie stared at Rebekah as the wheels on the vampire's head spun. She saw the moment Rebekah figured something out. "The blessed one."
Hey! It didn't took me 2 years this time so, YEY for me :)
Aaaand, we got Rebekah in the mix! I really love the character, and it's actually the first time that I'm writing for her. Rebekah is interesting because, even though she might be bitchy at the first sight, she's actually a very sweet and romantic girl once you scratch the surface. She's really challenging to write, hope I did her justice.
We're gonna have a little bit of Mabekah in here, so if you don't like the pairing, please tell me :) If the majority of my audience doesn't like it, there's no reason for me to do it.
I am really proud of this last scene. In my headcanon, Bonnie and Rebekah would be instant bestfriends. They're both tough girls, but very caring. Also, BECHDEL TEST!
Anyway, I hope you like it and I expect your reviews. There are more two or three chapters to follow. Lots of love!
