Hello all. I would like to thankMaddyR, Prince Itzal, QueenWoofy, White-Knight-066, darkeyesgirl, Little Cinch and SummerMistedDragon for the wonderful reviews. I would also like to thank all of you who have followed and favoured since my last update.
So firstly I'm sorry for the long wait for this chapter, my brain has been going through a bit of a Case of writer's block for all my stories of late. Secondly I won't be updating much in August due to holidays and stuff like that. I will try my best, but don't get worried if the gap between chapters is quite long. I am still writing and having forgotten them.
Anyway enough from me, here's the next chapter. It is set in season 9 episode 7 "Bad Boys."
Disclaimer: I don't own Supernatural, nor any of the lines I have taken from the show.
Castiel sat in the back of the car and watched the world go by as they made their way to Sonny's farm. He paid little attention to the Winchester brothers in the front and just enjoyed the feel of the air blowing through the open windows and the nature that they pasted. He had put all confusing thoughts from his head, and as Dean was driving he could do nothing else but watch, and he was glad. Castiel liked doing this, sitting in the back and watching it all go by.
Soon they pulled up to a white farmhouse, Dean got out and looked up at the house that had once been his home before he turned to help Cas get out of the back and then they and Sam made their way up to the front door.
Sam and Dean were talking to each other but Castiel was paying no attention once more, but this time it was because he caught sight of the boy in the window watching them arrive. And looking at him, Castiel got a strange feeling, he didn't know what it was, what it meant, what he did know was that something wasn't right here and that scared him. With that moved closer to Dean and grabbed the righteous man's hand. He and Dean could protect each other.
Dean was walking up to the front door of the house when he felt a small hand slip into his, he automatically turned to smile at Cas and squeeze his hand as they knocked on the door, but inside he was frowning, wondering what it was that made Cas want to take his hand. The baby angel wasn't one for usual human interactions. Maybe it was just as it had been at the park, he was trying to be a human kid. Dean shrugged it off when a woman opened the door.
"Hi." He said with a charming smile on his face making the woman cross her arms.
"What can I do for you boys? You bringing the child here?" She asked eyeing Castiel with a look as if she was sizing him up, trying to see if he would be as much trouble as the rest of the boys in her care.
"Err, no, he's family." Dean replied his hand instantly holding Cas' a little tighter at the thought of anyone taking him away. "I'm Dean, this is my brother Sam, we're old buddies of Sonny's."
"Prison buddies?" The woman asked narrowing her eyes.
"No, you mind telling him we're here?" Dean asked he really didn't want to get into how they knew Sonny, or why they were visiting, with this woman thank you very much.
"I'll go get him." She replied turning to go but turning back when she heard the screen door open. "I just mopped this floor so you take off those roach stompers." She told the boys and with that left Sam and Dean sharing an exasperated look as they removed their shoes. Castiel just stood next to Dean refusing to let go of his hand. He didn't know why but he got a strange feel from this place.
And so they all entered the house, Dean looking round as if he was relieving his memories from his time here as a boy, Sam curiously studying the place which was a part of his brother's life that he had never known existed and Castiel studying everything he could see. Hoping to find where the feeling he was getting from the place was coming from. He was sure it had to be the reason that Sonny had called Dean. And as a good angel it was his responsibility to protect Dean from it.
"Dee-dawg." Sonny called as he entered through the door from another room smiling at Dean who turned to smile at him too.
"Sonny. Good to see you." Dean replied.
"Hey, you too, brother." With that Sonny came up to Dean and gave him a hug which Dean returned with one arm. His other hand still holding Cas', which of course Sonny noticed and as such he gave Dean a quizzical look, but before he turned to the kid at Deans side he turned to grown man with him.
"And this must be Sam." he said smiling at him as he remembered all the things Dean had told him about his younger brother while he was here.
"Good to meet you." Sam said holding out his hand for the guy who had looked after Dean, to take. He wasn't sure what to make of Sonny, but he had helped his brother, and in truth that was all he needed to know right now.
"Back at you, brother." Sonny replied shaking Sam's hand before turning to look at Cas. "So who's this?" he asked smiling at the little boy who didn't say a word just stared up at him as if he was analysing his every move. It was kinda freaky having that look on a kid that could be no more than six in his estimation.
"This is Cas. He's family." Dean replied but didn't elaborate. He wasn't sure how to explain who Cas actually was to them.
At that Sonny looked up at Dean studied him before he nodded, accepting that that was all he was going to get in explanation for the boy.
"So, the farm looks, uh, nice." Dean said trying to change the subject from Cas.
At that point Castiel stopped listen to the conversation. Dean had said it twice now in a matter of minutes. He had called him family. He was Dean's family, he was going to have to accept that. But was it right for an angel to be classed as a human's family? Then he thought about Gabriel, and how he had been when he was around Sam and Dean. He had acted the same as Castiel remembered him acting with other angels, and he had felt a warmth from Gabriel towards the Winchester brothers. Did that mean that Gabriel was also family to Winchesters? Did he know he was family to them? And did Gabriel see himself that way? Because if the answer to those questions was yes, then it would be fine for Castiel himself to be family with the Winchesters. Because Gabriel was an archangel, and as such his opinion was always right.
Castiel tuned back into the conversation happening around him when he heard Sonny describe what could only be something supernatural at the farm. He heard Dean ask Sonny to round up the boys so they could look over the place, but the next sentence for Sonny make him move closer to Dean and grip his hand tighter.
"Well, that shouldn't be a problem. I'll take Cas too if you like." Sonny said to Dean holding out his hand for the kid.
Dean looked down at Cas to find that he now had both of his hands holding Deans one. And he was holding it very tightly, which if Cas had been a normal human child wouldn't have been a problem. But as Cas was an angel it was freakin' damn hard. Dean just hoped he didn't break any bones with that grip.
"Na, its fine. Cas can stay with me." He replied through gritted teeth trying not to reveal that Cas was causing him pain. At his words Cas looked up at him and smiled slightly before releasing his grip making Dean breathe out a sigh of relief which in turn caused Sam to chuckle softly. He after all could well imagine that having your hand held in Cas' grip wasn't that much fun.
With a nod Sonny left to get the boys while Dean turned to Sam.
"All right. Why don't you take the house? We'll check out the barn." He said causing Sam to raise his eyebrows. He felt sure that Dean would make him check out the barn as he had Cas with him, but fine whatever, he was happy snooping around this place.
"Yeah. Sure." He replied before turning to go and investigate.
Dean turned to look at the fledgling by his side and wondered if he had done the right thing deciding to take him out to the barn. He would have preferred to keep Cas in here, but he knew if he was walking round this place he would get distracted, it held too many memories for him to be able to do his job properly. So the barn it was. And hey, Cas was an angel, surely he would be fine when they dealt with this thing. Especially as this thing sounded a lot like a ghost, and they really weren't a problem. With that Dean and Cas made their way out of the house and towards the barn in silence.
