"Do I look like I'm kidding?" Jon raised an eyebrow at the two men staring back at him
"You sure sound like you are!" Joe shot.
"Well, I guess it wasn't iceberg lettuce, big deal!" He rolled his eyes ignoring the comment
"Man I hate when you do that!" Colby told the taller man who shrugged struggling to understand what he meant "You always act like nothing bothers you, it's annoying!"
"You're annoying" Jon said as he pulled the younger man to the bed starting to wrestle. Colby was complaining about his headache but was completely disregarded
"Children, behave!" Joe commanded seconds before he heard a knock on the door "You're animals!" He mocked while opening the door. Renee came in, her heels tapped on the floor. She was wearing skinny jeans and a white blouse as well as a golden locket dangling on her neck.
"Ugh it smells like men and booze in here" The blonde commented
"How accurate!" Colby struggled to say. His face was being squashed against the mattress and his arm was being twisted back by the blue eyed man
"Jonathan, we need to talk" She said firmly and without a sound he followed her outside.
There was an awkward silence in the room after the couple left. Colby was still sitting on the bed trying to cope with the silence from the other man, although they could hear Jon and Renee's voices for the door wasn't entirely closed. Joe was leaning against the dresser with his arms folded and chewing on his lower lip, he looked like he was about to say something deep and Colby had had enough of deep conversations for the day "Seriously, why is it so bright in here? Too bad my sun glasses are in my suitcase and I do not feel like moving…" He let out a shy chuckle as he raised his hands to rub his forehead
"Complain again and I'll make you swallow the whole bottle of aspirins!" Joe snapped but he never looked away from the floor. The brown-eyed slipped off the bed and walked toward him stopping right inches away from Joe which finally made him stop staring at the carpeted floor.
"Are you still mad at me?" Colby asked in spite of knowing the answer.
"Is that a rhetorical question?" Joe asked avoiding the real response. He took one small step away from the dresser getting even closer to Colby looking slightly down at him for he was a bit taller. They were so close that they could hear each other breathing. "'cause the last time I checked, you-"
"No. It's an actual question" The two toned man interrupted the other. He held his breath when he realized that the last time they had been that close to one another was when they were still dating. Colby adjusted his glasses nervously hoping Joe wouldn't hear the sound of his heart pounding in his chest. Jon and Renee walked in but the two men were too focused on each other to notice.
The blue eyed man cleared his throat making Colby and Joe turn their heads to face him. "Maybe we should…uh" He started. Meanwhile, his girlfriend was staring startled at their friend like she had just realized something huge. "…go" He continued. He looked at her as he felt her elbow in his ribs, but she didn't look back at him, she just took a step forward.
The Samoan stepped away from the younger man "What are you guys doing tomorrow?" Said Joe changing the subject, Colby's chocolate eyes closed as he sighed in relief.
Jon paced headed the old armchair pulling the blonde woman to his lap hugging her slim torso. "We're going to her place, you?"
"I'm gonna see Jojo" A smile finally appeared on his lips as he said those words. "What about you?" He asked the brunette after a few seconds
"What about me?" Colby shrugged
"What are you doing on your day off? Besides, of course, getting insanely drunk an-" He asked dryly being interrupted by a sarcastic laugh from the other. Renee leaned back and whispered something in her boyfriend's ear, after that they both stood up and slipped out of the room unnoticed. "So you're staying?"
"Yes, I'm staying." He sighed "Look, I really appreciate what you did for me, but I'm fine now, you should probably go"
Joe paced toward the door, but turned around to face him "Pack your bags and meet me outside in two hours" A small smirk washed over his lips "I could use a backup driver" Joe left before Colby could say anything.
Two hours passed and as settled, Colby went outside and waited for Joe to show up but there was no sign of him and he wasn't answering the dark eyed man's calls. Minutes later a black car stopped right in front of him. "Hop in" Joe said as he rolled down the window "Dramatic, huh?" Colby rolled his eyes at him and chuckled. He got in the car after throwing his bags in the trunk. "Last chance: you want to stay or you want to go? Not that I'll do what you want but-" The taller man joked
"Just drive…"
Colby was sitting on the passenger's seat, legs crossed, arms folded against his ribs and head leaning against the window as he followed the trees with his eyes as they drove past them.
Joe was driving, both hands on the steering wheel and his left elbow resting on the open window. He eyed Colby who was as melancholic as the song on the stereo "Why are you pouting?" Joe asked, never looking away from the road
"I don't know, maybe because you kidnapped me" Said Colby. His voice was flat and emotionless
"Would you rather stay at a hotel room doing nothing all day without any-"He started the question but the other man cut him off
"Why did you want me to come with you?" Colby snapped and sat up straight. Joe looked at him and then away
"I'm not sure what you want me to say" There was a pause after those words were spoken. Joe turned his head to meet his gaze "Look, we are friends so I don't need to justify why I want to be with you… You are my best friend, no matter what!" Colby grinned and nodded in agreement "Also, Joelle is going to be thrilled when she sees you, every time we talk, she asks me about you and Jon. Tomorrow we'll spend the day with her… I mean, if you want to"
"If I want to!? Of course I want to! Your kid is so cool… It's kind of hard to believe she's your kid" Colby joked. He felt Joe's palm pushing his face away "Okay, okay, I'm kidding"
"Lucky you I know!" Joe retorted "You know I should be jealous…" He said in a mocking tone
"Why is that?" Colby asked biting into the green apple he had shoved into his backpack before he left the hotel
"The other day she asked me about the red spot in Jupiter, I told her it's a storm but she didn't remember the day after… but she wanted me to buy her a turtle because months ago you told her they can breathe through their butts"
"What can I do? Kids love me" Colby laughed
"That's 'cause you're a kid!" Joe mocked
"More than friends, less than lovers"
