Hello all. I would like to thank WhiteKnight066, Little Cinch, darkeyesgirl, jazzy (Guest), MaddyR, RangerHorseTug, Hocapontas and SummerMistedDragon for all the wonderful reviews. I would also like to thank all you lovely people who have followed and favoured since my last update.
To answer a question this story is not going to have sequel, but while it may seem that it is coming to an end I will make sure I wrap up all the different plots lines in it before I end it. And there is probably about another 9/10 chapters to go yet, maybe more depending on how it goes.
Anyway, here's the next chapter I hope you like it.
Disclaimer: I don't own Supernatural.
Gabriel sat on the edge of his desk once again reading the symbols the Winchesters had sent him to make sure he hadn't missed anything in the quick scan he had given them during his conversation with Dean, but no, what he had said was right. There really was only three bits of usual information. He idly wondered if the waffling rubbish came from Metatron or his dad, cos in all honesty it could well be either, but that wasn't what he needed to concentrate on. No right now he needed to find a way into heaven, heaven which was closed for business. Before he could really getting into thinking about it there was a knock on his office door.
"Come." He said knowing the only person who could be on the other side was Hannah.
"Commander, Malachi has turned up and wishes to discuss a partnership." Hannah said once she came through the door. She didn't comment on the fact he had his phone out, or who it was she would bet had been on the other end. The look on Gabriel's face told her that he was troubled by something. She just hoped that he and the Winchesters could work it out, and she hoped that nothing had happened to Castiel, though surely if that had been the case then Gabriel would have left by now. So no, Castiel was no doubt fine, and she needed to worry about her role here and leave Gabriel to his own plans and thoughts.
"Malachi and me? Partners? Well this does sound like fun." Gabriel replied pushing himself away from his desk and checking he had his angel blade up his sleeve before returning his mobile to his pocket. He then followed Hannah out of his office and to the front entrance to the warehouse where Ephraim, Rebecca and Elijah where standing across the entrance refusing to allow the angels on the other side to pass, though they all stepped aside when they saw him approach and showed him the deference that was of the old ways of angels when an archangel walked in the mists. It irritated the hell out of Gabriel, but he knew that right now he was going to have to play the part of leader of the heavenly host to the full.
"Malachi." He said making sure that he put just a hint of power into his voice as he looked at the angel in the fore front.
"Gabriel, I wasn't sure if the rumours were true and you really were alive." Malachi said with defiance in his voice making Gabriel weary just hearing it. He knew that this would end only one way, he just wished there was another.
"Very much so. Have you come to re-join the host under my command then?" Gabriel asked not letting any of his true feelings show.
"We have not seen you for centuries Gabriel and then you decide to take control. You must understand our wariness at joining you." Malachi said, he was wary of angering the archangel in front of him. But Gabriel had always been the weakest, and he had been on earth for so long, no doubt his power was not as great as it would have been of he was Michael or even Raphael.
"Not really. I am the last remaining archangel Malachi and as such it is my right to lead." Gabriel replied with innate arrogance which went hand in hand with being such a powerful being.
"True, but you have spent much time on earth. We have had other… leaders who spend just a few years down here and their priorities were, let's say shifted. So tell me, what are your priorities Gabriel?" Malachi asked in a clear ringing voice, he wanted all to hear what Gabriel had to say. Make those who followed him just because he was an archangel question that loyalty.
"You want my campaign speech Malachi? Very well. I am going to return the angels to heaven where we belong. We will then take up the task laid on us by our father himself, to protect humanity, his greatest creation." Gabriel replied louder than Malachi could ever hope to get. He said it such that it resonated within the building and inside the head of every angel there.
"They are nothing to us Gabriel." Malachi shouted back at him annoyed at the intrusion into his mind. They did not need Gabriel telling them what to do when he had left them all so long ago.
"That's where you are wrong Malachi. They are more than we will ever be. They have the choices after all. We were made for a purpose. They get the free will, we do not." Gabriel replied quietly and yet every angel still heard his every word. Gabriel hated himself for saying this, is wasn't true, Castiel had proved that. Angels could have free will too. But they needed to learn to make the right choices, for all of their dad's creations. And for that they needed to learn to love humanity once more.
"And yet you left heaven all those years ago." Malachi challenged. He may not know the reasons but he was sure it was because he did not want to follow their father's orders.
"I never understood it then, I do now. We have a role to play, a job to do, and do it we will." Gabriel replied with certainty. It was a voice that only a fool would question.
"And if I say I don't want to do that job, what then Gabriel?" Malachi asked raising his arms in performance for the angels who were gathered round.
"You are either under my command or you will join Bartholomew in the afterlife, if we have one." Gabriel growled. He could not show any weakness to Malachi.
"Or I could kill you. I think I will take my chance with that."
With that Malachi pulled out his blade and drove it towards Gabriel's heart only to find that the archangel was no longer in front of him.
"I'm sorry brother, you should have joined me." And with that Gabriel killed the rebel angel, letting his body drop at his feet and the wings to burn themselves into the floor before turning, blade in hand to Malachi's followers.
"You follow me or die. Make you choice now." He growled, he was fed up with all this posturing, he was trying to get his family home. Why could none of them see that? Why could none of them see that they needed to work together? He was fed up with people challenging him, of him having to kill them to prove himself to the rest. He just wanted this done.
"We will follow you." Said the angel at the front, the sentence echoed by all those behind him as well. With a nod Gabriel walked away leaving Hannah and Rebecca to organise where the new angels would go. He had to work out how to get into heaven. He made his way back to his office with all the angels parting for him like the red sea, not that he registered this fact, he was already back to trying to find the solution to his problem.
