Disclaimer: I don't own Supernatural.
Dean and Gabriel walked along the road in heaven, and as they did so the scenery around them changed, though it was less like walking from one area to another, and more like one set dissolved and reformed into the other. What the hell?
"It's all perception Dean-o. Heaven will create that which you image." Gabriel said with a shrug when he saw the look of confusion on the humans face.
"Is it the same for you?" Dean asked turning to the archangel at his side. Because from the way he said it, it made Dean think that this was all his doing.
"In some ways, yes." Gabriel replied with a nod, though he wasn't going to get into the ins and outs of dimensional manipulation with Dean Winchester.
"So you're doing this?" Dean asked just to clarify. He was confused now.
"No way kiddo. You're the guide on this journey, I'm just along for the ride." Gabriel replied with a chuckle at that question. Why would he bother changing Dean's road?
"So you have no idea where we're going?" Dean asked in shock. Yeah okay Gabriel had said that he, Dean, was the only one who could lead them to the spell, but he had thought that after walking he would have a general idea where it was they were going.
"Well, I have an idea." Gabriel replied with a shrug. To be honest he had had an idea of where they would end up ever since he had realised the spell was in heaven.
"Where?" Dean asked, curious now at what he thought.
"The garden at the centre of heaven Dean-o. The place with the most power. If I was Metatron that's where I would put the spell." He answered with a shrug but before Dean could reply a smug voice sounded from behind them.
"Well it is gratifying to know that an archangel agrees with my ideas, I must say." Metatron said standing behind Dean and Gabriel with a smug grin that matched his tone on his face.
"Metatron." Gabriel replied with no emotion or inclination in his voice.
"Hello Gabriel. It's been a while." Metatron said in a friendly manor.
"A life time, or two, but who's counting?" Gabriel answered without a care.
"So very true. So you are the one who has chosen to take the role as my adversary. Not the angel I had imaged, kudos for the twist." Metatron said with a smile at the archangel in front of him who just raised his eyebrow.
"Thanks. I do like to do the unexpected." He replied with a dry tone.
"So true. You won't find it you know." Metatron continued in a grandiose tone which had both Dean and Gabriel rolling their eyes.
"And why do you say that?" Gabriel asked in a voice which clearly said he was humouring the angel in front of him.
"I wrote down God's word Gabriel. I know everything on that tablet." Metatron responded in a tone of offence.
"And?" Gabriel asked giving off the air of one unpresented by the inferior being in front of him. Though inside he was wondering what Metatron did know and if he had made it so that they would not be able to find the spell, even with the grace that was inside Dean.
"And your prophet couldn't read it all could he? Such a shame that my hand slipped over the section telling people how to find the spell." Metatron replied with a look that was fake horror before he returned to his normal smirk as if he knew something that Gabriel did not.
"Oh yeah. So, how do we find it?" Gabriel asked crossing his arms as if Metatron had just completely screwed over his plans, though in truth he was smiling inside. The stupid angel really thought he had the better of him.
"Well, I should probably not tell you. But as I'm about to kill you, I might as well share the secret. You need some of the grace the spell contains, and I don't see Castiel anywhere around here. You picked the wrong human to kill to bring you here Gabriel. You should have gone with your brother." Metatron replied his smirk turning feral as he studied the one angel who could stand against him and making his blade appear in his hand.
"Oh I don' know. Dean-o is far more expendable that Cassie ever will be." Gabriel replied his blade appearing as well. He knew it was time to fight.
"Hey, standing right here." Dean shouted at the two angels that had started circling each other, not that they paid him any attention. No their attention was solely on each other.
Gabriel watched and waited. He knew Metatron, and he knew the angel thought far too much of himself. Look at what he had done for dad's sake. So he knew that the angel also thought he could beat Gabriel in a straight fight. Stupid idiot thought Gabriel was weak because he left heaven due to the fighting of their family. So Gabriel watched and waited, letting Metatron make the first move. It didn't take long.
Metatron flew so he was suddenly behind Gabriel and went to stab him in the back only to find the archangel twisting away as he brought down the blade. He turned to try again and managed to grab Gabriel and hold the blade to his throat.
"You don't have the grace you need Gabriel. I am truly sorry for this brother. But if it is any consolation, once I have killed you I intend to go to earth as the new saviour of humanity and I'll bring the angels home. How does that sound?" Metatron asked in the belief that he had won.
"It sounds like you have a real god complex. But newsflash dick-bag. You ain't dad." Gabriel said with a smirk.
"Neither are you Gabriel." Metatron answered bringing the blade up so he could stab the archangel in his hands.
At that the Gabriel in his hands smirked even more and dissolved before Metatron's astonished eyes. He then felt the blade slice through him from behind.
"Never said I was. I'm just the only one left. Oh and by the way. I didn't bring the wrong human. You forget Castiel pulled Dean from hell and healed his soul. Just how do you thing he did that?" Was the words the true Gabriel spoke as he plunged the angel blade through Metatron's back even while the other angel's eyes widen as he realised what it was Gabriel was saying.
With that Gabriel let go of Metatron, his body falling at the archangel's feet with an extremely normal sense finality.
"Really? The same trick as you tried with Lucifer?" Dean asked into the silence decidedly unimpressed with the display as the archangel looked down at the brother he had just killed. Dean wasn't stupid. He knew how much it hurt Gabriel every time he killed another angel, and so he tried to lighten the mood.
"It worked didn't it? Or would you prefer to remain dead forever, cos you know, I could arrange that." Gabriel replied putting his mask of indifference firmly back on his face as he turned back to Dean.
"Ha-ha, very funny." Dean replied with a roll of his eyes for his companion.
"I like to think so. Come on Dean-o, let's get the grace and go home." Gabriel said moving so that he was standing next to Dean and not looking at the body which was slowly dissolving into the mists.
"Agreed." Dean replied with a nod after a quick once over glance at Gabriel to make sure he was actually okay.
And with that the human and the archangel turned as one to continue there journey through heaven to save their family.
