The silence after they returned had spread throughout the entire castle as Asamad sat alone in the study room, unable to stop thinking about Rankor's last words to Vincent.
"And the red ghost's soul shall make this warlock's body its eternal home!"
Eternal…
Asamad attempted to push the thought away. There's no way he could be possessing Vincent forever, could he?
"We cannot afford to lose him. I cannot afford to lose him," he said to himself.
He also couldn't help but think about how Vincent is going to feel once this ends. Is he going to blame himself for having that nightmare about this very situation? Could Vincent's soul even be woken up? How far is he from them right now?
Where did he go, and how close is he to death?
He snapped out of his thoughts as the others arrived in the study room now.
He looked up at them with red eyes, noticing Daphne was still hesitant to look at him.
"What is it?" Asamad asked.
"Vincent, I mean, Asamad," Daphne shook her head as she realized that she mixed up their names. It was hard not to think of him as Vincent while he was in his body. "I think we might've figured out where Vincent's soul went."
He immediately stood up, and walked towards them.
"What do you mean?" he questioned. "Are you sure that you figured it out already?"
"When we were on the plane, we recalled when we found that Ophelia was stuck in The Dimension Of Lost Spirits, until you, along with us, helped her cross over. We think Vincent might be there now too. He can't move onto the afterlife like she couldn't, and he's not here on Earth just like how she wasn't on Earth," Flim Flam explained.
"Rhat's where re's rotta be, right?" Scooby asked, trying to remain hopeful.
"Like yeah, I'm sure he is," Shaggy answered, trying to comfort the Great Dane, petting his head.
"Listen, all we need is you to open the portal to the dimension for us. We'll go in there, find Vincent, and bring him back into his body," Velma announced.
Asamad sighed and closed Vincent's eyes.
"You think Vincent went to the same place that my wife did?"
Everyone else nodded hesitantly.
"I apologize for what I am about to say, however, I do not think this is true," he admitted. "First of all, that dimension was for those who are dead, and Vincent's not dead, I can feel his heart beating right now. Second, even if he's there, getting him out will not be as easy as you think it will be. It took hours for us to help Ophelia get out of there, remember? Third, you're going to have to get me out of his body before he can get back into it," he told them. "Lastly, Rankor said this spell was eternal."
"He did, but we will find a way to break it!" Daphne exclaimed. "If you just open the portal-"
"You are not understanding!" he interrupted. "He cannot be trapped there since he's not dead! He has to be somewhere else!"
"We have to look anywhere we can for him, whether or not he's actually there," Shaggy responded. "Including the Dimension Of Lost Spirits. Vincent's life is on the line here, remember that."
He looked down at him, and at the others.
"Fine, I'll open the portal for you," he said.
Everyone smiled, and Daphne sighed in relief.
"Thank you," she said.
"Of course," he told her. "However, do not be surprised if he is not there, though." He started making his way out of the study room. "I will let you know when the portal is ready."
Everyone else nodded, and waited for a few moments before Daphne had started searching through the bookshelves next to the fireplace.
"Daph, what are you doing?" Shaggy asked.
"I just remembered that Vincent's got some books on demonic possession and how it works," she recalled. "If I can find at least one of them, maybe we'll find another way to get Vincent back and get Asamad out of his body without using the portal and going into another dimension."
"Then, we've gotta help you find it! Come on guys!" Shaggy exclaimed, as he and the others rushed over and also started searching.
One by one, they pulled books out and skimmed through them, and threw them to the side as they couldn't find anything that would help.
"So, how long is this gonna take us?" Cheryl wondered.
"Long enough," Jayden commented.
"Rhat's not rit," Scooby said, as he tossed aside a book that had mentioned demonic possession, but gave no details about the subject.
They kept searching for a few minutes before Daphne stood up.
"I think I found it!" she exclaimed.
"Are you sure that you got it?" Flim Flam questioned.
"Yes. Look, 'The Secrets Of Demons and Other Evil Spirits!'" she responded, reading the book's title. "I remember this is one of the books on demonic possession that Vincent told me about not too long ago."
She opened the book and the others quickly gathered around her to read from it.
"It says that once a human is possessed by a demon, the human's soul goes out of their body, since two souls cannot be in one body, but the human's soul is still somehow attached to their body," Velma announced. "So, Vincent's soul is still attached to his body, which means that his soul can't be too far away right now. He's still somewhere on Earth."
"There are few ways to get the demon out of the human's body. One is driving out the demon with a spell, another is simply just sprinkling holy water onto the body," Shaggy said. "A way to make sure the demon does no harm to the person or anyone else is to tie them up or put chains on them."
Daphne closed the book, and the others were silent for a moment.
"So, which ones are we going to try?" Flim Flam asked.
"All of them," Daphne immediately responded, with a serious look on her face. "First, I think we should tie Asamad up so he doesn't do any harm. I know he would promise to not, but it isn't hard to anger him, so just in case of an accident…"
"Doesn't a sacred object destroy the souls of demons though?" he pointed out. "I remember Asamad had told us that almost a year ago now. And wouldn't holy water be considered sacred?"
"Well, I don't want to destroy Asamad's soul as much as I want to save Vincent," she sighed. "We can skip that one. Plus, Vincent would be furious with us once he'd find out."
"Okay sure, but how are we going to drive Asamad out of Vincent's body with magic if we don't have any ourselves?" Cheryl asked.
"We can get help from Vincent's crystal ball for that, our crystal ball, also we have Asamad too," Velma told her.
Asamad came back into the study room now, and the others looked up at him again.
"The portal is ready," he announced.
"Thanks, but we need to talk…" Daphne replied.
