Chapter 19: Love of a Child
Steve
Beep, beep. Beep, beep, went the alarm clock. I turned it off quickly and turned back to Tony. I gave him a small kiss on the head and smiled.
"Morning, dear."
He chuckled.
"What are we a sappy married couple?"
"Well, that can be arranged."
He laughed and snuggled in closer to me.
"Do we have to get up?" he asked groggily.
I chuckled at my childish fiancé.
"Yes we do."
I sat up in bed and pulled off the covers. Tony groaned and slowly got out of bed. I walked out of the bedroom with Tony following close behind. We walked into the kitchen and it looked like Chris was already up. Her bag was in her chair but she wasn't. The elevator dinged and laughter flowed through the room. Chris and Bucky walked in laughing and poking at each other.
"Morning dad," she said kissing my cheek.
"Morning father," she said kissing Tony's cheek.
Bucky walked right behind her and smiled.
"Morning, you don't mind that you won't be getting a morning kiss from me right?" he teased.
I rolled my eyes at him but I could tell Tony didn't take it so lightly.
"And Tony just bright and cheery as always," he scoffed.
"Morning tin man, did you get your daily dose of oil today?" Tony shot back pouring a cup of coffee.
Both glared at each other and Chris and I backed up. Bucky has been staying with us recently. He asked earlier this month if he could join the avengers. Of course I would let him. He would be a good asset to the team. But Tony is sketchy of Bucky so he sends him to do all these ridiculous tasks to prove he is worthy. But it isn't too bad, he spends a lot of time with Chris and she seems to enjoy the time with her Uncle. I'm a little jealous of it.
"So today Bucky for your tasks today consist of this scavenger hunt, cutting down these trees and moving them to this location, and get this secret item."
He looked over the list and frowned.
"Tony this is the chores you were supposed to do."
He turned around and huffed.
"No they aren't."
Bucky growled a little.
"Idiot it has your name in Steve's handwriting marked out with a red pen."
Tony was acting even more immature than usual.
"Well, if it's too hard for you, you can always quit."
Bucky glared at him. He crumpled up the list in his pocket and grumbled: "Fine, I'll do it."
He turned around heading to the elevator.
"Chris do you want a ride to school?"
She nodded eagerly.
"Chris what happened to your motorcycle?" I asked.
She frowned.
"Let's just say Bucky sucks at driving…. Period."
He laughed ruffling her hair.
"I'm not that bad."
She gave a sarcastic laugh.
"Yah, say that to the five mailboxes and the STARK Industries sign you hit."
He laughed as they got in the elevator.
"Well if your bikes out commission I can pick you up since it seems Bucky will be busy with Tony's chores."
She smiled.
"That would be great thank you daddy."
My heart warmed at the word. It was still such a pleasant feeling every time; it hasn't gotten old at all. I walked back to Tony still sipping his coffee.
"Now that I got rid of those pesky chores we can work more on the details of our wedding, you know the one we are having in August."
I nodded.
"It's February and we have only made a few decisions."
He was right but I'm not really a wedding planning person. Yes, I want to get married but there are just too many choices.
"Down to the office?"
Tony nodded and we headed down to hopefully make more decisions. But five minutes in I was already bored. Tony could see that on my face.
"Hon I know this isn't fighting for America or anything but it has to be done."
I sighed.
"I know, I'm sorry I know how important this is to you," I said gripping his hand.
He smiled.
"I knew you weren't really into this anyways, so let's do what you really want to do."
He reached over me and grabbed his laptop.
"Now let's see who this Miss Avenger really is."
He typed in something too fast for me to see and a multitude of screens pulled up in the air.
"Here's a database of all superhero's and villains, any recordings, newspapers, or anything of the sorts we can find them, if they sneezed only a minute ago we could find it here."
I marveled at the database.
"So do you think we can find this Miss Avenger here?"
He nodded typing in the name. He entered the name and only three screens pulled up of her. One was filled with news articles from the New York Times. They seemed to take a liking to her. She was there for the little people not the huge issues they said. Then we had one on her abilities. No wonder she calls herself Miss Avenger she has the good qualities of each Avenger. She's super strong, agile, has an updated shield, crossbow, and the tech to support her. She's all of us rolled into one. The next panel should have had her identity.
"I don't think she's really in the database," Tony hummed.
I looked at her. She seemed pretty good at keeping her face covered.
"I can do facial recognition but with so little of her face we would have tons of options."
I frowned.
"Well, come on she's got to be somebody, she can't be nobody."
He nodded looking at the picture.
"Well, maybe we should give her some privacy; she's been taking care of New York and giving us super heroes a good name for once."
"That's not really the point; I want to invite her to join the Avengers."
He cocked his eyebrow.
"You want to add two members now?"
I shrugged.
"It wouldn't be bad to have the extra help."
He nodded and typed in something else.
"I'm doing a scan of her face, well what we can see of it."
He typed in something else and it started to scan the best picture of it.
"We should have some options in a few hours."
I sighed lovely more waiting.
"Now, back to planning."
With that off my shoulders we got back to planning and it went a bit smoother. We didn't have many disagreements with things like this. I looked up at his face time and time again and couldn't hide my excitement.
"What are you smiling at?" he teased.
I blushed a little.
"Just your wonderful face," I cooed.
His face turned a deeper red. I looked down at my watch.
"Time for me to pick up Chris, love you honey."
I gave him a quick peck and walked out of his office and down to the garage. I grabbed the keys to Tony's black Camaro ZL1. I revved it up and drove off to Chris's school. When I got there she was waiting outside for me, behind her stood the principle.
"Chris is anything wrong."
Mr. Parker looked at me and then down at my daughter.
"Can you try keeping your daughter out of trouble?"
"Wait what happened?"
"Dad what he is about to say isn't true I'm innocent."
I looked at Mr. Parker.
"What are you accusing her of?"
He grumbled.
"Your daughter beat up three students in the hallway and left them there on the floor."
She stood up and faced her principle.
"Like hell I did, I'm innocent look at the camera's you will see I'm innocent."
"No, we have three witnesses that said you did it."
"Bastard, you're only picking on me because of me because of what I can do."
She was angry her fist clenched beside her.
"Mr. Parker let's just look at the tapes and see what happened," I asked politely.
Both he and my daughter stared each other down before he budged to show us to his office. He pulled up the recording and we watched intensely. Sure enough Chris showed up on camera. But something didn't make sense. After that Chris beat up the students another Chris came on screen. Both were wearing different clothes. They circled each other. One started to shimmer and I knew who that was.
"Did you watch that part Mr. Parker?" she growled.
"Loki's back," I whispered with disbelief.
They both looked at me.
"What did you say?" Mr. Parker asked.
We had no time to lose.
"Mr. Parker we can discuss this later right now we have a big problem and we have no time to waste."
I grabbed Chris's wrist and drug her out to the car.
"Dad what's going on; where are we going?"
I couldn't answer all I could think about was her safety. We got in the car and I sped out heading to STARK Towers hoping it wasn't too late. We arrived at the building and I ran up the stairs leaving Chris in the car. I ran to the intercom.
"Everyone a meeting, NOW!"
In three minutes everyone was in Tony's office.
"So what's the big deal?" Bruce asked.
"We have a situation."
They all looked at me with big eyes.
"Loki's back."
