Antonio stood in the computer room and watched the door closely. It was his job to make sure that no one came in while Margo dug through and downloaded information from the central computer. He wished she would hurry up. He never liked being put in positions like this. If someone came along he'd either have to knock them out or kill them…
Wait, he couldn't kill them. That whole thing was against the rules when you were a hero. The last time he did it he didn't really have much of a choice. Eep's life had been on the line, and while the girl was thankful for the save, he'd gotten an earful from Helen. Something about how killing at his age wasn't healthy for his mental state.
It was strange. Antonio was too young to remember much about his real mother. He didn't know what it was like to have a mother worry over and fuss at you. But the way Helen and sometimes even Franny nagged him about stuff made him wonder if it felt anything like that.
He honestly wondered if any of the relationships he had with the team were similar to how a real family's was. He didn't have any siblings, none that he knew of anyway. He saw Wilbur like a brother, and while he may not have been as close with the others he did like being around them. He even felt something for Edith, despite the fact that she didn't seem to like or even trust him.
The only one who he really wasn't sure about now was Margo. He glanced over his shoulder at the girl who was typing on the computer. It looked like she almost had all the files downloaded now, afterwards she would probably plant some sort of spy software. She'd been learning a lot about computers lately.
He wasn't sure where he stood with Margo. Okay, that wasn't exactly true. He knew where he stood with her, but he didn't know where to take it from there. He liked her. Try as he might to shove the feeling of attraction down, he couldn't help it. The first time he dated her, she was so love struck she went along with everything he did.
But now that they actually talked and learned about one another, he found himself drawn to her. She was smart, smarter then any other girl he'd met. The way she defended her sisters and friends was fierce. She was a real people person to. Whether that last one was because of her personality or her powers, he didn't know. He didn't really care either.
She seemed to like him too, which surprised him. She'd forgiven him for betraying her, even forgiven him for what her father had done. She liked hanging out with him, talking with him, and just being in his company. He enjoyed being with her as well, but he just wasn't sure if he should try anything.
The biggest problem was of course her family. Gru and Edith didn't like him, and they had no problem letting him know that. They never really said anything directly, but he could tell they didn't like him being so close to Margo. Edith at least acted civil towards him. That was probably because he had saved her life a few times on missions. Gru on the other hand grumbled under his breath whenever he saw him.
Surprisingly enough, Agnes had forgiven him the moment she found out Margo had. If he didn't know any better he'd think the little girl was trying to play matchmaker with them. Lucy had been skeptical about him, but she didn't seem to mind his presence now. She even offered for him to come over for dinner a few times. It led to tense, uncomfortable moments.
If he did want to be with her, it would cause chaos in her family. And the last thing he wanted was to create a rift between her and her loved ones. "Antonio." He looked up and saw Margo standing by him. "I'm all wrapped up. Ready to go?"
"Si. Let's call the others and get out of here."
"We're ready to go guys. Are you finished up on your end?" Margo asked.
"Yeah, we've got plenty of evidence to go off of. You and Antonio can teleport out, I can get the rest of out safely." Violet's voice answered.
Margo nodded and then reached over and grabbed Antonio's hand. In an instance they had gone from standing in the computer room to the top of the building they had started on. Antonio had gotten used to the feeling of teleporting. It was still a bit odd, but he no longer felt like he'd vomit anymore.
What he was not used to however was the feeling of Margo's soft hand wrapped around his own. He stood nervously and tried to keep the heat from coming to his face. He cursed his stupid emotions. Before he become a good guy he never blushed at a girl's touch. Girls blushed from him, not the other way around. But Margo wasn't just any girl.
"Antonio, you're blushing."
Her noticing didn't help him keep the red off his cheeks. "I'm not." He said stubbornly. He heard her sigh, and figured she was probably rolling her eyes about now. "I… have allergies."
"Really? Was that the best one you can come up with?" She asked.
"Unfortunately." He said scratching his cheek. They were still holding hands, and it didn't seem like she was planning on letting go. "You can let go now."
She gave him an odd look, but didn't let go. "Antonio, why haven't you asked me out?"
He grew wide eyed and then turned towards her. He looked like a deer in headlights right about now. "I… what are you talking about?"
"Are you serious? You can't pretend like we don't know what's going on with… you knows, us." She said blushing slightly herself. "Before I thought if I just gave you a little time and got my family off your back then you'd try again, but you haven't done anything. Why?"
Antonio tried to think up of an excuse. "I… your family-"
"I don't care what my family thinks. Neither should you." She said bluntly. "Antonio, I've forgiven you. You're changed, we both know that. You're not that jerk you were those years ago. You help people, you save people. My sisters owe their lives to you, remember?"
Antonio looked down at his feet. "It's not that simple. Even if you forgive me other people won't. My family has hurt people, lots of people."
Margo grabbed his shoulder. "Antonio. Even if all those people forgive you, it won't mean a thing if you don't forgive yourself. Learn to move on, let things go." She said.
He looked her right in the eyes, and they held the gaze for a few second. Margo learn up towards him, but right before it seemed like she was about to press her lips to his, they heard a noise and quickly jumped apart. They both looked over and saw Bolt sitting there, his tongue hanging from his mouth and drooling.
Margo sighed with relief. She didn't know how she would explain that to Edith. Antonio on the other hand glared daggers at the canine. "Stupid Perro." A cat would have at least been quiet.
Bolt ear's suddenly perked up, and he looked off towards the south. Antonio looked in the direction but saw nothing. He kept looking however. In his first few weeks of working with Bolt, he doubted his instincts. He knew better now. If the dog thought something was wrong, then something was wrong.
"What do you think is going-?"
A loud crash was heard, and suddenly they saw smoke coming from a few blocks away. "That." Antonio said narrowing his eyes. "I'm going to go check it out, wait here for the rest of the group!" He shouted back at her as he ran off. Bolt barked and followed after him.
Scourge brought his sword down to stab Anna, aiming right towards the girl's throat. Right as the blade was about to make contact however, a strong gust of wind blew by knocking it to the left. The blade implanted itself into the ground, right next to Anna's head. Scourge growled before turning around to see the new threat.
Ted stood on a nearby building. "Another one?" Scourge said. Ted ignored him and lifted his hand. A tornado formed underneath Anna and quickly carried her away from scourge. Ted brought her up to the building and place her safely on the ground. "My prize…" Scourge said angrily.
"She's not your prize!" Scourge looked over and then saw Kristoff rushing at him. Scourge smirked. According to his visor this one didn't have any enhanced strength. He wouldn't be able to scratch him. Kristoff's skin suddenly turned to metal, and he delivered a punch right to his jaw. Scourge went stumbling back, grabbing his jaw.
He turned back and glared at Kristoff. He got ready to charge, but suddenly a pair of beams hit him, sending him sliding back once more. He turned and saw Bolt growling at him. Behind him was Antonio who was holding a handful of knives. "You heroes really to like to show up at the most inconvenient times don't you?"
Kristoff was clearly still angry with Scourge. Anna had been hurt, almost killed. He was not going to let him get away with this. "I'm going to make you wish we hadn't shown up at all!" He said throwing another punched. Scourge blocked the punched, but winced in pain.
He ducked under the next punch and then swung his sword. It scratched against Kristoff's chest, leaving a long scratch that cause him to grit in pain. Antonio jumped in throwing a few knives towards Scourge. The alien turned around and batted them away with his sword, giving Kristoff the chance to grab him from behind.
The blonde leaned back and suplexed him into the ground. He quickly stood back up and prepared to attack again, but Brutus suddenly jumped in and sucker punched him. Kristoff went flying and smacked against the sidewalk. Scourge growled. "I didn't need your help!"
"That isn't how it appeared to me." Brutus said turning towards Antonio. "Don't forget that this time period is crawling with heroes. We need to dispatch this group quickly before they overwhelm us." He said pulling out a large axe. He charged towards Antonio.
Antonio threw a few more knives at him, but they bounced right off Brutus skin. Just as Brutus was going to swing his axe at him, Bolt lunged forward and tackled him to the ground. He bit into his arm, and while it didn't manage to break the skin, Brutus clearly felt it. "Filthy earth canine!" He yelled swinging his arm and slinging Bolt away.
The dog landed a few feet away and charged right back. Brutus however fired his gun and blasted. Bolt was knocked back once again and went sliding past Antonio who tossed another knife. This time he hit the gun, which blew up in Brutus hand. "AH!" Brutus shook his stinging hand and glared at him.
Antonio spun another knife in his hand. "The next one is going to be aimed at your eye." He said narrowing his eyes at him. He heard a loud thump behind him, and then turned around and saw Cypher. Before he could even lift a hand, Cypher kicked forward and knocked him back. He landed on the ground and gripped his shoulder. He was pretty sure it was dislocated.
Kristoff ran over to help, but Brutus jumped forward and landed on top of him, slamming his head into the ground. "It would be wise of you to stay down human."
Ted frowned and jumped down towards Brutus, but Cypher jumped into the air and grabbed him by the throat. He came down and then slammed Ted into the ground. Ted winced in pain and struggled to remove his tightening grip from his neck. "It's almost amusing seeing how amateurish you young heroes are."
Another knife flew by cutting his arm and leaving a rather nasty cut. Cypher winced and dropped Ted before turning back towards Antonio. "You're little knife throwing display is starting to annoy me." He said pulling out a sword. "Let's see how well you throw when I take away both your arms."
Antonio signaled for him to come. Cypher began walking towards him. Antonio glanced around. Ted was definitely down for the count. Even if he could get up, there was probably no way he could still fight. Kristoff looked like he could still fight, but he was dazed. Dash was managing to get up as well, but all in all things did not look good for them.
Just as Cypher was about to reach him, a large vine made its way out of the ground, blocking him from Antonio. "Back off my friend freak." Audrey said, an angered look on her face.
Scourge looked like he was about to charge her, but Cypher raised his hand. He nodded towards the buildings around them. Eep and Thunk were both glaring down at them from above. Behind them was Gaara who was growling and looked ready to pounce.
Hovering above Gaara with his rocket boots, and pointing his gun towards them, was Wilbur. A smile spread across Scourge's face. "Well, if it isn't the time traveling monkey himself."
Wilbur glared at him. "Following me all the way back in time? I thought I was stubborn." He said cocking his gun. "What are you doing here?"
"What do you think we're doing here? We've obviously come back to kill you. Did you think you were safe? Did you think hiding yourself among these pitiful excuses for heroes would be able to stop us from getting to you?" Scourge asked with amusement.
Wilbur gritted his teeth. He never thought they would actually follow him back in time. How dedicated where they to killing him? "So this is the infamous Wilbur Robinson I've heard so much about. He doesn't look nearly as troublesome as he was made out to be." Cypher said chuckling. Wilbur raised an eyebrow. He didn't recognize him.
"Believe me father. He's not to be underestimated. He's like a crafty little rodent. Always managing to scurry away before you can deal with him."
Wilbur laughed. "Father? This is your dad? Wow, there is like no resemblance there. I mean this guy actually looks… well, you know, competent."
Scourge growled and looked ready to rush at him, but Cypher grabbed her shoulder. "Calm yourself. We'll have our chance to deal with him. But now is not that time." He said looking around him. "We're out numbered."
"We've taken most of them down and-"
Margo and Violet suddenly appeared next to Antonio. Margo glanced over at him, clearly surprised by the shape his arm was in, but quickly focused her attention back on their enemies. She could make sure he got treated afterwards. Edith and Penny suddenly jumped down behind them as well.
Scourge looked surprised. "Pay attention to your visor. They do tell you about incoming hostiles." Brutus pointed out.
Scourge balled his fist up. He didn't care how many humans he had to kill, he was going to take care of Wilbur once and for all. Cypher pulled him back. "Part of being a conqueror is knowing when and when not to pull back. We've confirmed the target and his location. That's all we need for now. We can lure him out any time we please."
The younger of the two aliens looked angered, but backed away. "Next time Robinson." He said as Brutus made his way over to them.
Edith pulled out her sword. "Or how about this time!" She yelled running at them. She quickly made her way over to them as Brutus typed in something on the device on his wrist. When she swung however, they suddenly vanished. "What the-?! Where did they go?!"
"Forget where they went, who the heck were those guys?!" Audrey asked before turning around to Wilbur. "How did they know who you were?"
"It's them." Wilbur said. "It's the aliens."
"I don't get it. They weren't supposed to be here for another twenty years. I mean I guess they could have followed the distress signal, but how did they know who you were?" Helen asked.
Wilbur rubbed his temples. It wasn't the dozens of questions that the team or the adults had been asking since he got back that was bothering him. It was the simple fact that Scourge and Brutus were here in this timeline that was driving him mad. In hindsight, they should have suspected that they had time traveling technology.
The aliens had tech that far surpassed anything on earth, even his father's inventions. But still, he didn't think they'd actually follow them back. How did they even know they'd come back? How did they know which time they'd come to? Why was this happening now?
Memories of his fallen allies began flooding into his head. He's lost so many friends in his time, most of which were killed by Scourge and Brutus. And now they had this Cypher guy among their ranks too? Not to mention what this was doing to the timeline.
And the declaration Cypher had made. How they could lure Wilbur out any time he wanted. He knew what that meant. That they were willing to kill, were going to kill, just to lure him out into the open. It was disturbing enough knowing that his friends lives were on the line. But now there were innocent people who would be targeted, all because of his presence here.
In the past death was a normal every day occurrence. He'd gotten used to it. Hearing the K.I.A list was just a routine part of his day. But here, after spending so much time with his teammates, he'd gotten soft. The thought of his friends, or even innocent people drying by their enemies hands was scaring him. Especially because the fault would be entirely on him.
"These aliens are from the future as well. They most have tracked us, followed us back to this time somehow." Franny explained as she watched the footage from the fight. "I just can't believe they managed to follow us ever here."
"What are we going to do about this?" Gru asked. "We can't just leave them to their own devices. They're threatening our children here."
"They're not threatening the children, they're threatening us." Franny explained. "We came back here to warn and prepare for the invasion, so of course they want to remove us from the equation. But you're right, we can't leave them be. They outright threatened to use civilians to lure us out. We need to find them and strike before that happens."
"And how exactly are we going to do that? Bolt couldn't find a single trace of them when they vanished, and Rick said the investigation team couldn't find any signs of them either." Bob said.
Violet, who had been silent up until this point raised her hand. "It might be a stretch, but Antonio did manage to slice off a couple pieces of their technology. If we study it we might be able to find a way to trace where they are." She said.
Gru nodded. "Yes, perhaps some sort of signature or energy trail left behind may give us an edge over them. With something like that we could keep tabs on them at all times in fact."
Wilbur was only half listening to the whole conversation, but he got the gist of it. He stood up and sighed. "Well, if you guys think you can find a way to track them, then I think I should go on patrols. They could strike at any time and-"
"Whoa, hold on there son." Bob said putting a hand on his shoulder. "You and Franny are the ones their looking for. I think for now you should lay low."
He looked as if he was about to argue, but Franny put a hand on his shoulder. "Wilbur, I get it, I really do. But we need to approach this strategically, so just wait a bit." She said.
Wilbur sighed and stood up. "Fine. I'm going to go see how the others are doing in the infirmary." He said looking irritated. He knew she was right. Waiting was their best option right now. But that still didn't mean he had to like it.
A/N: So, I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter! Now, someone asked a very legitimate question about the characters ages. At first I was thinking of working off the characters canon ages from the movies, but I decided to adjust their ages to fit the story more. So here's a list of the team and their current ages.
Violet-17
Wilbur-17
Eep-19
Anna-19
Kristoff-21
Thunk- 16
Audrey-19
Dash-14
Edith-14
Penny-15
Margo-15
Antonio-15
Ted-16
I think that covers everyone(for now). If I missed someone please let me know in the reviews, and while I know everyone's age isn't movie canon, it's just what I think will best fit the story. The rest of stories that I plan to write(which will be connected to this one) will all be happening during, or not long after the events of this story. So their ages won't be changing too drastically.
Remember to read and review!
