It had been a week since his and Margo's first date, and it'd gone pretty well too. They went out and saw a movie, they'd gone to eat lunch, and they'd talked for a few hours. It had been pretty enjoyable. They'd spent a good chunk of the last week hanging out as well, and after a rather awkward conversation they had decided to make it official.
They were dating. The team reacted with teasing and congratulations. Antonio had noticed a significant lack of teasing from Wilbur, which was strange. Something must have happened between him and Violet, since they were avoiding eye contact and hadn't spent nearly as much time together. He tried asking but Wilbur said he didn't want to talk about it. Antonio was his friend, but he knew when he should keep his mouth shut.
Edith had been… surprisingly accepting. She didn't celebrate it or anything, but she didn't protest against it either. She of course made a direct threat about hurting her sister in any way, which was understandable. The rest of their family… well, he wasn't so sure. Margo said she'd break it to them when she got home, saying if he was there it'd be chaotic.
The next day she had said everything was fine. He didn't completely believe that, but he figured since Gru hadn't come to kill him that they must have worked out something. The day after that, Gru had asked to talk to him privately. Needless to say, he was terrified. Gru had made it clear that he didn't like them together. But apparently he trusted Margo's judgment. So he let him off with a threat similar to Edith's.
Still, he had been worried about going to pick her up from her actual house. For all he knew there had been a death trap waiting right at the front porch.
Her whole family being in one place had been… an experience. Lucy didn't really have an impression of him, so she didn't harbor any animosity towards him. She did keep on snapping pictures of him and Margo however. Agnes kept asking him questions like how their first date was, did they kiss yet, were they going to get married.
Edith didn't say anything. She just nodded towards him. And Gru glared at him. Like really glared. Antonio was pretty sure at one point he was going to feel a hole burn into his back. He and Margo were supposed to be going to the amusement park today. And Gru had insisted that they bring her sisters along.
He may have gotten to be alone with her once, but Gru was determined not to let it happen again. "I want to win a stuffed animal!"
"Aren't you getting a little too old for stuffed animals?" Edith said rolling her eyes.
"You're never too old to get stuffed animals! Right Margo?"
"Edith, don't tease Agnes. Agnes, we'll win you a stuffed animal later. If we get it now you're going to have to carry it all over the place and you'll forget it somewhere." Margo said.
Antonio was pretty impressed with how well she mediated her sisters. Agnes was a little ball of energy, and he knew from working with her how difficult Edith could be. But she managed to keep them both under control. "Sorry about this." He heard Margo say in his head. "My dad doesn't want us alone together, he's going to try and shove them on us from now on."
He grabbed her hand and smiled at her. "It's no problem. It'll give me a chance to win over your sisters. If I can get on their good side I may even be able to get in Gru's good graces." She smiled back at him.
"Uh, you two are so in love it's disgusting." Edith said shaking her head. "Why did dad have to make me tag along with you two? Now I have sit here and watch you make goo-goo eyes all day." She said crossing her arms.
Margo rolled her eyes. "You don't have to stay with us you know." Agnes was about to run off, but Margo grabbed the back of her shirt. "You do. If I let you run off you'll end up burning down the place." She said shaking her head. Agnes pouted as Edith turned and walked off. She didn't need to be told twice.
Agnes pouted. "Not fair. I should be able to go off on my own too."
Antonio smirked. "But if you left you wouldn't be there when I won you your stuffed animal."
She immediately brightened. "Oh! I want a bear!"
Edith walked through the amusement park trying to decide which ride to get on. She knew it would have to be a roller coaster. She always got on them before eating. The idea of blowing chunks after a ride like that was much more appealing when she was a kid, but after actually doing it, it lost its shine.
As she approached the Tower Of Terror, she saw something interesting. It was Dash. He was leaning against a wall, talking with some girl she didn't recognize. He was saying something to her that was causing her to giggle. Edith stared at the scene curiously. Edith had seen him enough around school to know he was flirting with her. Probably trying to get her number…
How could she ruin it for him?
A devious smirk grew across her face as she thought of all the possibilities. There was the interrupting as the obnoxious friend, the accidentally spilling a drink on the other girl's blouse, or the ever so embarrassing pretending to be his girlfriend. She began liking the sound of that last one. She began making her way over towards them.
"Dash!"
The blonde looked up surprised, and so did the girl. The moment he saw her he raised his eyebrow. "What are you doing here?" He asked.
"Just enjoying the amusement park." She said shrugging her shoulders. "So are we still on for the movie night next Friday? My parents aren't going to be home so it's just you and me." She said fluttering her eyelashes at him.
Dash looked at her confused. The other girls however scoffed. Dash heard it and turned towards her. "Hold on a second, I don't-"
"Save it." The girl said holding up her hand. She turned and began walking off, rejoining her group of friends. She said something to them and they all glanced towards him before frowning and leaving.
The blonde boy turned towards Edith with a scowl. The girl began bursting out in laughter. He growled. "Nice going! I was just about to get her number! Why'd you have to show your ugly mug?!" He snapped.
Edith wiped a tear away. "Because it was hilarious!" She said. "What, do you just come to the park and try to pick up random girls? How sad!"
Dash frowned at her. Did he come to the park to pick up girls? Yeah, it was only a few minutes run for him and it was easy. But the way she said it made him sound… pathetic. "Pretty sure you were just jealous since you couldn't find a date to the park." He muttered.
She stopped laughing and then glared at him. "What did you say?!"
"You heard me." Dash said now smirking. He loved getting under her skin. "I don't see you with anyone else, so you can't be on a date. What, did you come here with your sisters?"
She growled. "Shut up! Just because I'm not always trying to hook up with someone doesn't mean I can't enjoy going to a public place! Maybe if-"
Dash stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her before pulling her forward. Edith grew wide eyed as he leaned towards her. "You know Edith, if you were jealous you could have just said so instead of making a scene." He said smirking.
Edith could feel her cheeks heating up. She couldn't believe it. He was flirting with her. Like seriously flirting with her. And she was blushing from it. She looked away and did the only thing she could think of. She jammed her fist into his side. "OW!" Dash let go and jumped back, grabbing his rib cage. "What the heck?!"
"Y-you were too close! Back off!"
"I was too close? You almost kissed me last time and I didn't punch you!"
"Yeah well… it's different when it's the guy getting close to the girl!"
"That's a double standard!"
"So what!"
Dash and Edith glared one another down. Eventually they both crossed their arms and turned away from one another. They both knew they were being childish, but they didn't know any other way of dealing with each other. Eventually Dash sighed. "I… I'm so… sorry." He said cringing, as if it pained him to say it.
Edith grew wide eyed. "What?" She asked turning to him.
Dash scowled. "I said I was sorry. I'm not saying it again." He wasn't actually sorry, but if it got back to his mother that he had wrapped his arms around her, she'd give him the whole 'Gentleman keep their hands to themselves' speech. He wasn't in the mood for that.
Edith looked at him curiously for a few second. "I guess… I guess I didn't have to punch you."
He stared back at her in disbelief. Had she actually apologized, to him? "Huh…" They stood in awkward silence. They weren't used to not having anything negative to say about the other. This whole situation was new to them. "Are… you hungry?" He asked.
She looked down at the ground. Of course he was thinking about food. "I could eat."
"It's so fluffy!"
Antonio watched as Agnes shook the large furry bear she was carrying. Had Antonio known that winning her over would be this easy, then he would have done it months ago. "You certainly have a love of stuffed animals." Antonio said as he and Margo watched her jump around. She was so different than both her sisters.
Margo was smart and witty, Edith was rough and cocky, and Agnes was… the best word he could think of was innocent. Even after growing a few years she'd kept her childlike personality and wonder. "I'm going to name this one… Tony." She said holding it up into the air. "You're going on the top five shelf."
Margo shook her head but giggled. Her sister was so easy to please. "Thanks for winning it for her. She wouldn't have stopped begging for one until she got it. But she isn't very good at carnival games." She explained.
"No problem." Antonio said shrugging. "I'm honestly just amazed at how you can keep up with the both of them. Between her energy and Edith… being Edith. I don't think I'd have the slightest chance of surviving in that house."
"Well, you either adapt or you perish. I adapted."
Just as he was about to respond, they heard a loud crash. They looked forward and saw smoke starting to float up into the air. "Oh come on!" Antonio groaned. Today of all days! On their day off! On their date! "Dios mio!"
Margo looked down at Agnes with concern. She knew this was probably something dangerous, and she should probably go check it out. But if it was a villain, not an accident, then leaving her alone would be even more dangerous. "Stay with her, I'll check it out." Antonio said taking his jacket off. He was ready to switch into his costume if needed.
"I'll call up Edith to come back you up. She's probably heard the commotion but… it's Edith." She thought with a sigh. She grabbed Agnes arm. "C'mon, we need to get you to a safe place."
"What? But I can help!"
"No! You can't!"
Antonio kept running and stopped when he came around the corner. There was a large robot that seemed to be destroying anything in its path. It had a large drill on one hand, and a large shovel on the other. Antonio noticed the screen on its chest. It was showing an image of… "Oh you have got to be kidding me." Antonio said glaring.
"Behold! The Drill-Tron 3000! The newest and unstoppable creation put together by me, the Underminer! This machine will clear the surface of the selfish undeserving scum that have polluted, corrupted, and endangered both their world and mine! I will finally be rid of…"
Antonio began tuning out as he slipped under a nearby stand and quickly changed into his costume. Underminer had a bad habit of going on monologues. "Date interrupted by a D list villain like him, can't believe my rotten luck." He muttered angrily. He was going to end this as quickly as possible so he could get back to Margo.
After about half a minute he was done and jumped back out as Cuchilla. "Hey, dirt bag!" He shouted angrily. The robot stopped drilling into the funnel cake stand and turned to face him. "I am going to give you one chance to pack it up and go home!"
Underminer laughed. "Do you think I-"
"Chance wasted." Cuchilla shouted hurling a knife at him. It hit the screen, causing cracks to form in it. Underminer shouted in anger as the robot charged at him. Antonio easily dodged as it swung its drill arm at him. He rolled under its legs, slashing at the metal joints as he did.
Unfortunately it had no effect. He frowned. What was this thing made of? It seemed like lately they were running into all types of robots or armored enemies that had some kind of light impenetrable metal. They kept trying to get samples of it, but the robots would either self-destruct, or the villains would ditch the armor before they got caught.
This time however he was determined to get something from it. He threw two more knives as the robot who easily deflected it with his shovel hand. "Nice try! A pathetic attack like that will do nothing to-"
"Will you shut up?!" Cuchilla shouted annoyed. "Don't you ever get tired of hearing your own stupid monologues?! Just be quiet for once!" He said running at him.
The robot swung the shovel hand at him, but Antonio jumped on top of it and then leapt onto the robot's head. He pulled out a knife and began stabbing at it, but he couldn't break through the metal. He growled. He'd have to keep trying to take out the joints. If push came to shove he could just stall this thing until Margo got back. She could totally tear it apart.
"Cuchilla, move!"
Antonio quickly jumped off the robot and turned to see Edith, or rather Pink Star, falling down and slashing the robot. She landed in front of it and turned to see that her sword had only left a small scratch. She scowled. Her sword was created by Cornelius, and had a small almost invisible laser at the front of the blade. If she couldn't cut through it, nobody could.
"Underminder, again?"
A blur went by and Dash came to a stop beside Pink Star. The robot looked down at him. "Ah, my old arch nemesis, The Dash. Come to stop me have you? Well your efforts are in vain! My newest creation is indestructible and-"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, we are NOT arch nemesis. I'd have to sink pretty low for you to be the greatest villain I ever fought." He said with a chuckle.
The Underminder growled and the robot swung at him. Dash easily dodged and Edith jumped out of the way. Edith pulled out throwing stars and tossed them at it. They bounced off its armor and he laughed. "Do you think such puny attacks can penetrate my armor?! Face it heroes, my ultimate creation will-"
"Shut up!" Dash and Edith both yelled charging at him. Dash circled around the robot. It kept swinging at him, but it couldn't land a single hit. Edith used the distraction to jumped up and slash the screen right in two. The glass cracked apart and the image blackened. "Thank god." Dash said in relief.
The robot kept swinging at him, but he leapt back. He didn't expect it to stop moving just because they broke the screen, but he was kind of hoping against hope. Antonio and Edith ran past him and both slashed at the robot with their blades. Antonio aimed for the joints, but his knives weren't strong enough. Edith's blade left a few scratches, but nothing serious.
"Ah!" Edith growled as she jumped out of the way of another attack. "This is pointless! We can't do any damage to this thing! Where's M?!" She asked looking towards Antonio.
"Busy!" He said doing a backflip away from another attack.
Dash watched the two of them closely. Between her sword and Antonio's plan, there might have been something there. "Pink Star! Aim for the joints!" He shouted before running towards the robot. She looked confused, what the heck was he talking about? Dash stopped at the robot's leg and placed his hands on it.
He began vibrating his hands as fast as he could, and while still standing strong the robot's leg was shaking. Antonio realized what he was doing. "Do it!" He shouted towards her. Edith grew wide eyed, but then glared towards the robot. She charged at it and then lifted her sword.
With one heavy slash, she managed to cut the robots joint. It didn't get all the way through, but it did cause it to limp over a bit. "Ha!" Edith cheered before turning around and going for another attack. The robot, seeming to realize what they were up to, moved its leg before bringing it back down at Dash. He moved out of the way right before being stomped.
Edith jumped on the robots back and stomped on its head. "Yo chrome dome!" She called smirking. It swung at her and she jumped off, causing it to smash its own head. It stumbled back and Edith landed before throwing her sword towards it. "Dash, go!" Dash quickly ran towards the robot. He ran up its leg and managed to catch the sword.
He lifted the sword above his head and began vibrating it in his hands again. He stabbed down, and the sword managed to penetrate the robot's armor. He smirked. "Got it!" He cheered. The robot reached back to grab him, but he ran down its back, dragging the sword along with him. As he ran down he created a large opening on its back.
Edith quickly took the chance to attack. She pulled out as many ninja stars as she could and hurled them inside. They stabbed all over, most of them landing on what looked like the power source. The robot turned around looking ready to attack, but suddenly began to slow down. It stopped and then fell to its knees. "Did we do it?" Dash asked.
Antonio walked over and kicked it. "Yeah, pretty sure it's done for."
Dash smiled before feeling a punch on his side. He turned and looked at Edith. "Nice battle plan you had back there… but give me my sword back." She said holding her hand out.
He chuckled before handing it back to her. "Well someone had to do something. Seeing you have to deal with something you couldn't just slash up was just sad." He said crossing his arms.
Edith once again reached out and punched him. But this time it was a lighter, more playful punch. Antonio looked at the scene confused. They were both smirking towards on another. Almost as if they were getting along. Just as he was about to ask what Dash was doing here, a figure appeared in front of them. "Okay! I'm here, what's the… oh, we won."
"Way to show up late to the party." Edith said shaking her head towards Margo.
She frowned. "I was making sure everyone in the area got to a safe distance."
"No one is safe from the Underminer!"
They all turned towards the broken robot. "Oh for god's sake!"
They saw a bright light coming from the robot's back. "My ultimate creation may have failed, but it can at the very least take you all with it! Now behold, the ultimate-"
"Crap! It's going to self-destruct! Get moving!" Edith yelled. The light got even brighter and before they knew it the air before them was filled with fire. They were all surprised. Usually when the villains had their machines blow up they would go through a countdown. Having it just outright explode was actually… smart. Too smart a move for the Underminder.
Dash picked up and Edith and moved as fast as he could, while Margo grabbed Antonio and teleported away. Dash struggled to get out of the range of the explosion. He was known for speed, not strength. Carrying Edith while moving at top speed was draining for him. It also didn't help that this was a pretty big explosion too. He could feel the heat of it behind him.
"Faster! Faster!" Edith shouted.
"Stop rushing me!"
If he moved any faster Edith would be feeling the effects. She wasn't like the others, she was a regular human. She couldn't handle his top speed. Dash suddenly felt his foot get caught on something, and he tumbled forward. The two of them rolled on the ground for a few yards before finally coming to a stop.
They both quickly got up and got ready to run, but then realized that there was no longer any heat behind them. They turned around and saw the area behind them. The bomb's explosion seemed to have reached its range, which was luckily a few yard behind them. Every inch of the explosions range was scorched earth. "We… we made it! Yes!" Edith said fist pumping.
"Whew! I am the fastest man alive!" Dash cheered.
Edith laughed and elbowed him. "Ha! You may just be! Nice running there fire foot!" She said happily. Right now she was just happy to be alive.
Dash chuckled and elbowed her back.
"Pink! Dash!" They both turned and saw Margo coming back towards them. "Are you two okay? I tried to teleport back for you but you were moving so fast I couldn't get a decent location."
"We're fine." Edith assured.
Margo did her sisterly job of checking over her anyway. Dash shook his head at them. "Well, I'm going to go check on the civilians. Shockwave was pretty big so I may have to run someone to the hospital. But before I go…" He vanished and both the sisters looked confused.
Dash reappeared beside Edith and tapped her on the shoulder. When she turned to glare at him, he moved to her other side and then kissed her cheek. Edith grew wide eyed. She turned and swung her sword at him, but he easily avoided the slash. "Figured I earned that after saving your life." He said smirking.
With that he rushed off leaving a blushing Edith behind. She reached up and touched her cheek. He had kissed her. He had just kissed her. She scowled after him. "Y-you! Did he just-! I can't believe he-! UH! You freaking spineless jelly bag!" She shouted shaking her fist. "When I see you again I'm going to gut you!"
She glared at the direction he went after. She then noticed Margo smiling down at her. She scowled. "Shut up!" She snapped.
"I didn't say anything." Margo said raising her hands. "But you two do look cute together. And I could totally see how-"
"AAAHHHHH!" Edith shouted and pulled on the side of her mask. She couldn't believe he had actually done that. Well, if he thought that this was over, then he had another thing coming!
As she ranted on about what she was going to do to Dash, neither of the sisters noticed the three figures watching them from the distance.
"This makes no sense. This was all too convenient." Bob said as he and the others sat in the conference room. "I mean the robot was one thing, but how did he get his hands on that metal? And that explosion wiped out all traces of the robot. Not even a sliver of that metal left to examine. This isn't the first time this has happened. It's connected."
Helen nodded. "I agree. It's just like every other mechanical menace we faced in the past months. Though this is the first one composed entirely of it. The metal is light but incredibly strong, we can barely even put scratch on it let alone dent it. And just about every time we think we can get a sample of it, something or someone gets in the way. Someone is distributing this metal out to villains, and their going an extra mile to make sure we don't get it too."
"Anyone who can get their hands on so much of this metal and keep it out of our hands so thoroughly must be ranked up pretty high in the crime community." Gru said crossing his arms.
Grug chuckled. "How high up can they really be if their resorting to making deal with low level threats like Underminder." He said sitting back in his chair.
"This is serious. If this guy is starting to expand his costumers then we could end up being overrun by machines of this caliber. We're already dealing with an alien threat, we don't need a robot invasion on top of that." Bob said sternly.
Franny tried to think. If she could figure out what metal this was that could help nip this threat in the bud. But she had no clue about it. Not even in the future had she run into a metal this strong. Could their presence here be altering the time line even more then they'd thought? "I don't know what's going on, but we will be getting to the bottom of it."
A/N: Okay, so this chapter isn't as involved in the plot as I'd have liked it to be, but I made it for two main reasons. 1. For some Antonio/Margo fluff. 2. For some Dash/Edith Fluff. Hope you guys enjoyed it. I know the Antonio/Margo moments kind of took a back seat to Dash/Edith, but I couldn't help it. I love those two.
Besides, Antonio and Margo have always been a bit more focused on then either of them anyway, so you know there will be some more moments between them in there. A lot more.
So I added the Underminer in there. I always saw him as kind of a C-list villain. Generally if you show up and the heroes smile in excitement, you're probably not all that much of a threat.
Can anyone guess what the metal is?
