If the likes of Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and the Avatar Korra were seen running down the streets and side alleys of any normal city, they would probably turn a lot of heads at their weird clothes.
In this city, however, that probably wasn't going to happen, thought Peter. Number one, he had seen far stranger beings in his first foray into the city. Number two, there wasn't really any people around to see them.
After all the chaos of destruction and riots that had followed the mass teleportation, most of the new city's population had taken the wise course, and hunkered down out of sight. They sometimes briefly saw another person or creature running through the streets, but for the most part the panic had mostly ended.
The group was mainly sticking to alleyways and side streets in their quest to reach Avengers Tower. They paused for a moment in one such alley to catch their breaths. Peter had changed back into his costume at the Sanctum Sanctorum; he had previously taken it from Air Temple Island before leaving for the Sanctum.
Peter looked over at Korra, who was leaning against the alley wall. "You good?", he asked.
"Super.", said Korra, giving a thumbs up signal. "I'm just disappointed there isn't any kind of fight available."
Peter smirked, then looked to Strange. The sorcerer supreme was looking over the corner of the alley, apparently looking for threats.
"Well, let's get going.", said Korra, moving to leave the alley. Strange, however, held up a hand. The sound of a car slowly approaching reached their ears. Soon, a police car glided past, with a fox and a rabbit in police uniforms inside, looking nervously about.
Once they were past, Peter looked to Korra. "You... you saw the fox and the rabbit driving the police car, right?" Korra nodded dumbly.
"We're almost there.", whispered Strange. "Let's roll."
They moved out of the alleyway and began back on their trip to the tower. Well, at least they would have, until the police car from earlier was thrown onto the sidewalk. The fox and the rabbit from earlier pulled themselves from the wrecked car, and began running willy-nilly into the streets.
Peter, Korra, and Strange turned back, readying themselves for a fight. Peter crouched into jumping position, Korra conjured twin bursts of flame from both her hands, and strange symbols appeared around Strange's hands.
Out of the haze brought about by a nearby smoking car stepped three teenage individuals. Peter knew supervillains on sight, and these three were the most obvious ones imaginable.
One of them had a gothic-style outfit and a purple tint to her skin, eyes, and hair, which was done up in twin horns. The second one was massive and muscular, looking like a reject caveman. The third looked like a younger version of Doctor Octopus: green, jumpsuit like outfit and a technological backpack that sprouted four mechanical arms.
"We don't want any trouble here.", said Strange, calmly but commanding. "We're just passing by." Not technically the truth, but it worked in a pinch.
"Too bad, snot suckers.", said the mini-Doc Ock. "You've walked straight into our territory."
"Snot suckers? Who are these guys?", said Korra, incredulously, as Peter said, "How can you have claimed this block as your territory? You've barely been here a day."
"Whatever we can control is our territory.", said the pink one, in a sultry voice. "We are the HIVE Five, and you've just ordered a healthy beat-..."
"Wait, wait, wait.", said Peter, confused. "If you guys are called the HIVE Five, why are there only three of you?"
For a moment, the criminal's cool expressions faded, and they gave an awkward look. "The rest are robbing a store down the street.", said the giant, jerking a thumb behind his shoulder.
"Never mind.", said the dwarf. "We're the HIVE Five, and we're going to crush your heads together."
"Whatever you say, short stuff.", said Korra, rolling her eyes confidently.
The dwarf got red in the face, and pointed to the giant. "Mammoth, smash their dumb brains out!"
The one called Mammoth charged forward, steam billowing out of his nose. Strange immediately conjured up red rope like tendrils, and shot them at the brickhouse. They immediately wrapped themselves around Mammoth's arms, tying him to the ground. Mammoth struggled and struggled, but the tendrils only gripped tighter.
Meanwhile, Korra shoot a column of fire at the pink lady. The lady merely casually snapped her fingers, and a pinkish-purplish light dissipated the flame. The lady then sent another colorful barrage of light at Korra. Korra managed to dodge this attack, but only barely.
The dwarf, cackling maniacally, pulled out a remote of some kind, and fiddled with the buttons. Immediately, twin rockets sprouted from his backpack, heading straight for Peter and Korra. They both managed to dodge being blown up, and Peter shot webbing at the dwarf.
Webbing soon covered the dwarf's face and wrapped around the mechanical arms. Soon, the blinded and snared dwarf fell to the ground, right on his backpack. Sparks flew from it, as the dwarf pulled the webbing from his face. "My tech!", said the dwarf. "You crud-monkeys!"
Meanwhile, Korra began performing some weird stances. The pink lady smirked at Korra's movements. "And just what is that supposed..."
The ground beneath the lady's feet shot up. Hit by the momentum, the teen flew up into the air, and landed hard on the street, dazing her.
Korra and Peter both high-fived each other, but then...
Snap! The bonds holding Mammoth snapped apart, and he rose from the ground, huffing and puffing. He charged Strange once again... who merely hit him with a shot of magic. Mammoth fell back and seemingly fell through glass, even though no window could be seen. Soon, both Mammoth and the glass had disappeared. Korra looked to Peter. "Sent to the mirror dimension.", shrugged Peter.
Suddenly, the sounds of laughter filled the street. Before they knew it, a figure dressed all in red spandex with the number one on his chest ran towards them. Then another identical teen with the number seven on his chest. Then, another... and another...
The small crowd of clones jumped on Strange, holding him to the ground. Strange managed to bat a few away with his magic bursts, but the clones kept being created, essentially trapping the wizard.
Peter turned to Korra, just in time to see a green sphere flying towards him. Before he could react, the sphere had encompassed him. Try as he might, Peter could not break the plastic like sphere, as a black kid with one, massive, green eye stepped out of the shadows.
Korra rushed forward, trying to tear apart the plastic. When raw strength didn't work, she conjured up some flame. She was about to blast the sphere, when a pitch black portal appeared in front of her face. A gloved hand shot out, pushing Korra back by the face. Korra stumbled, not helped by the sudden appearance of another black portal. Another hand shot out, grabbing her shin, causing her to fall to the ground.
A much larger portal appeared, and a cloaked figure appeared out of it. Before Korra could react, the figure kicked Korra in the face, sending her sprawling.
"Korra!", yelled Peter, as Korra slumped to the ground unconscious.
The cyclops came by and fist bumped the black-cowled figure, as the rest of this 'HIVE Five' regrouped. "What are we doin' with them, Gizmo?", said the clones in unison, in a thick southern accent, to the dwarf.
"Dish out some payback.", said Gizmo, sadistically.
Before the six members of the group (six? these criminals needed to learn how to count before they thought up a name) could begin whaling on the heroes, a bolt of bright energy shot past. The villains stood frozen, as soon bolt after bolt of energy zoomed past them.
"It's the cops!", said Gizmo. "Scatter!"
And so, the Hive Five (sans Mammoth, still presumably trapped in the Mirror Dimension) fled away, the cyclops carrying a still dazed pink girl.
Peter looked behind him as soldiers dressed in white armor (the same ones seen on the billboard during Peter's first time in the city) appeared from every which way, chasing after the Hive Five.
Peter also saw three other figures in the distance. They weren't dressed in the armor, but they still had an air of power to them. As they came closer, the three were revealed to be carrying swords of pure light beams. Two of them were humans, while the third was definitely alien (red skin, white markings on face, no hair, but blue and white horns? Check, definitely an alien).
One of the humans, the younger one, stepped up to Peter's sphere, and began carving out a hole in it with his sword. Soon, Peter could get out. He stepped up to the man (wasn't much older than Peter), and said, "Uh, thanks, Mr..."
"Skywalker.", said the man, with a cocky grin. "Anakin Skywalker."
Meanwhile, the older of the two humans was examining Korra. "She'll be all right.", he said, even though his hand had never touched her. "Just knocked out."
The alien helped Strange to his feet. If the sorcerer was astonished by the alien, he didn't show it. "Thank you. And whom can we thank for this rescue?"
The alien gave a cocky grin quite similar to Skywalker's. "I'm Ashoka Tano. They're Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. And we're the Jedi."
