Sasuke barricaded the door. In this small hut, somewhere far away in the woods, maybe the enemy wouldn't find them.
Kakashi took care of most of them, Naruto disappeared fighting two, and one slipped out of Sasuke's sight and rushed to Sakura. With only a kunai, the girl couldn't do anything against the wolverine, so Sasuke ran to help her.
However, things took a different turn when it became clear that their enemy was much stronger even for him.
That is why they were here now. Turning to Sakura, Sasuke watched the poor thirteen-year-old shake with fear. The man before her eyes had killed the two children they were supposed to protect.
He ripped them to shreds.
"Sakura, you're in no danger here."
He tried to calm the girl's battered nerves. She shifted her large, weeping eyes to him.
"Why are people so cruel, Sasuke-kun?"
Sasuke wanted to know the answer to this question.
Allowing himself a moment of weakness, he leaned her head against his chest, wrapping his arm around her. Sakura sobbed quietly.
As if he could, he would burn down the world for her, ridding it of evil and pain.
And then he would do everything to make her happy.
