After Marcus sees the transport wagon with the bodies off, he looks toward the orphanage and sees Gabriel riding into town. Once he gets to the Mountie office, Marcus asks him how the interview is going with Simon.
Gabriel replies, "He started with asking Lexi about the bandits and the missing brothers. I think he wanted to give Simon a chance to recover from his ordeal this morning. However, we know the names of the three brothers that may still be alive, Gordon, Gregory, and Gideon Trent. According to Lexi, they are thirty-four, thirty-two, and thirty. It's remarkable that a fifteen-year-old girl, was able to get the better of fully grown twenty-seven- and twenty-five-year-old men."
"Constable, I have a message for you." Ruth Trudeau says and hands him the telegram. Gabriel reads the telegram and asks Ruth to send an acknowledgement and that he will notify Sgt. Oakley. Ruth nods and heads back to the Telegraph office.
Marcus asks, "What is it? Is it about Lexi's faux brothers?"
Gabriel answers, "I think it is a possibility. There have been reports over the last two weeks of six women missing from towns around Clearwater. It is too much of a coincidence to me to not be related from what Lexi has told us about her brothers."
Hearing hoofbeats coming from the direction of the orphanage, Gabriel and Marcus look in that direction and see Sgt. Oakley headed towards them. As he dismounts, Gabriel hands him the telegram. Once Sgt. Oakley reads it, Gabriel informs him of his suspicions.
"I agree with your suspicions, and unfortunately, I feel it best to involve Miss Ramsey. Even though she has not seen them in over seven years, she may be the best bet to track them down to hopefully find those women." Sgt. Oakley says.
"But, sir," Marcus reasons, "Miss Lexi cannot get on a horse with her arm in the sling. She had to ride in my lap this morning after I put her on the horse!"
"I understand that, Drake. If she can give us insight without putting her on a horse, I would prefer it, especially if we have to ride really hard. That will be really painful for one with her injury." Sgt. Oakley retorts.
"Actually, sir," Gabriel counters, "It might be best if Drake and I ride out tomorrow morning after we talk with Lexi tonight. Hopefully we can find the women, and if so, we will need a wagon and maybe a nurse."
"Good thinking, Kinslow," Sgt. Oakley agrees. "This will also give me a chance to research the name I found out from Simon. It sounds like his father was a Mountie with the last name of Pierce. I do believe that the uncle was keeping him to get the money from the death benefits the wife received, and that he was abusing Simon. However, I am going to get some investigators to ask around where they lived to determine if there is any proof that I can use in court."
