LUCINA'S POV

Ships. In my future, we had none. Although captain will never be my choice profession, (I get queasy if I'm on board too long) it's nice to have the experience. "What are you thinking about?" I must have gotten lost in thought, for Robin appeared at my side. "Just… things." I said, watching the waves roll by.

Robin's brow furrowed in the cute way it does. "You mean, the future?" he asked, staring at me intently. I nodded. Robin put a hand around me. "Just remember, Lucy. I'm always here for you." I smiled. "I'm glad you are."

"Robin! Get over here, our scouts returned!" Chrom called from the ship's bow. He shot me an apologetic glance. "Sorry, I have to formulate a strategy. We have to beat their fleet if we want to make it to the mainland." Then he walked away muttering something about oil.

I just stood there for a while, leaning over the rail. Until I was rudely reminded that I was, in fact, a mother. I turned around to see where Chrom was to see Christian and Serena walking past, hand in hand, laughing. I now fully understood Sumia. Although I think I'll pass on Chrom's method of beat-up-the-person-in-question. Robin's nose is still squint from that encounter. Lissa says it broke in so many places; it probably will never be straight again.

During lunch, we had a briefing on the plan Robin concocted. "That's risky as hell." Sully said, grinning. "But it sounds awesome." It really was a risky plan; what if we didn't have enough room for everyone? What if the blaze reached the other ships? I shook my head. This was no time to be doubtful.

After lunch, we had an hour or two until we encountered the fleet. I was sitting in my cabin below deck, when there was a knock on the door. "Lucy? You in there?" Robin called. "Come in, Robin." I said. The door opened and Robin sat down at the edge of my bed with me.

"Just thought I'd drop by in case…" his voice trailed off. "Robin, even if it does fail, it's the best idea we have." I said assuredly, leaning into him. Robin sighed. "I know. Sometimes its kind of suffocating to have the weight of so many soldier's lives in my hand." I nodded in agreement. "I understand perfectly." I said truthfully. Except that I had let that weight suffocate me in the future. I was determined it would not happen this time.

We sat there for a while, enjoying each other's company. No words were needed; the presence was simply enough. Eventually, the spell was broken as Serena opened the door. Her face flushed when she saw us both, but she shook her head. "Uhm, The Valmese fleet is within sight. Chrom is calling everyone to the main deck." She said, and disappeared.

We both stood up. Without warning, Robin pulled me in for a kiss. "In case I do fail, I want our last moments together to be nice ones." He said, and walked out. I smiled. If that was his goal, he certainly succeeded.

JOSHUA'S POV

I don't know what all this crap about oil is about. I mean, I could've just blown these dolts out of the water before they got close to us. Give me a Fili Shield and I'm UNSTOPPABLE!

Anyway, narcissistic ramblings aside, we were in the middle of combat with the Valmese. Planks had been laid down between the ships and the Valmese were pouring in. my incredible dragon-eyes locked onto a brigade of Pegasus knights flying towards me. Sean was flying behind them, brandishing his katana and yelling profanities.

"Sean! Do a that thing!" I called, and sailed to the left. Sean saluted and sped ahead of the group and spiraled to the right. The group of riders split into two and chased after us. After I led my half a good distance away from Sean, I whirled around and made some nice roasted Pegasus with a side of rider. I glanced over to see that the ocean below Sean was stained red, blood being tossed along the crested waves.

"Nice shot!" Sean called, his voice barely reaching me. I laughed and spiraled downwards. I watched as Chrom and the commander, some guy… what was his name? Calamari? Whatever. Anyway, he and Chrom were fighting in the center of one of the Valmese ships. The commander threw his tomahawk. Chrom pulled an incredible dodge by sliding across the wet deck, leaping up, and in one fluid motion impaling the commander in the chest, Falchion cutting through his armor like it was butter.

The man fell to his knees clutching his wound, his weapon left unattended on the deck. "Think... killing me… will change… anything?" He said, his breath growing ragged. "Kill me… twenty more…. Take… my…" The man slumped to the ground and rolled over on his back, dead.

"Sumia!" Chrom called, pulling Falchion out of the commander's body. In a flash, Sumia swooped down and grabbed Chrom, airlifting him to one of the empty Ylissean ships. "ALL APPOINTED SHIPS, BEGIN THE PROCEDURE!" Chrom yelled. He explained that it would be better if he said 'begin procedure' rather than 'ram into the enemy then catch fire' for obvious reasons.

I watched in awe as Chrom and Robin did an incredible jump from one boat to the other; then as the ship they were on burst into flames and rammed right into a Valmese ship. Half of our fleet soon followed suit. Such a simple move, yet the Valmese never saw it coming.

As our ships started to turn around the flaming wreckage, I circled lower like a lazy seagull before finally hitting the deck. (In human form so I didn't sink the ship, of course.) "Pretty good tactics out there, Joshua." Sean said, patting Cormag on the head. I shook my head, grinning. "Maybe I can replace Robin?" I said jokingly.

Sean laughed. "I prefer to fight in one piece, Joshua. I really think we should stick with Robin."

The group was at ease now, but the next battle loomed closer with every wave we rolled over.

Jack's Corner

Yes, amazing, Joshua can be sort-of serious. Not much deviation of the actual battle, although I did kind of wonder why Nowi or Nah couldn't just blast the ships out of the water. Seriously. I hope the Plegians had insurance.
