KIR'YU'S POV
"Travellers! I urge you to continue!" Say'ri's voice rang out from behind my sister and I. As if. I didn't cross the ocean of time to find my mother with Mal'rai just to leave her at the hands of this Valmese filth. Of course there was the tiny detail that she had idea Mal'rai and I were here children.
"Fie, Say'ri. I will defend you and as will my sister." I said, leveling my blade at the approaching Valmese forces. Say'ri sighed. "I just wish I could assist you in battle, but my sword shattered earlier. I shall put my life in your capable hands, travellers." She said, stepping back. Normally such praise was rare from her- in the future she never really had time for such trivial things- so I steeled my will and charged at the nearest soldier.
The soldier saw me coming and raised his cavalry sword to block my strike. Our blades met in midair and the air was charged with ozone. I leapt back onto the ground and adopted a defensive stance. The cavalier swung downwards twice, both strikes were easy to block.
As soon as the opening emerged, I lunged forward and sank my blade into his chest. The soldier's eyes widened and he clutched his chest with both hands, completely forgetting the reigns. The horse reared and the cavalier rolled onto the ground, moaning. The horse slammed its two front hooves down with incredible force. I looked away as a tortured scream came from the man.
I glanced backwards to see Mal'rai covering Mother's other side, darting in between the enemy ranks with her dagger, every so often a Valmese would fall to the ground with a surprised look on their face. I leapt up to engage a heavily armored soldier when-
"Gah!" the Valmese cried out and fell to the ground, a blade somehow piercing both layers of armor and coming out the other side. Lucina pulled out the blade and nodded. "Kir'yu. A pleasure to see you again." I chuckled. "Glad to see you made it safely. How fare the others?" I asked, looking side to side for more enemies.
"All of them are here with me… except Thomas." She said, looking down at her shoes. I frowned. "Didn't…. Didn't he die in the future?" Lucina sighed. "Look, Kir'yu, it's great that you and Mal'rai are alive but the battlefield isn't the time for casual banter!" Talk about a subject change.
However, as usual, Lucina was right. She had much more leadership skills than me- I had inherited the throne at eight and even then Chon'sin was practically run by the advisors; which had led to a power struggle, which led to the downfall of Chon'sin. Lucina had somehow managed to keep Ylisse in one piece until the end.
I glanced around and homed in on the nearest enemy- a sage with some kind of Thunder magic- the tome was stark yellow. Not knowing could cost me my life; there were many different kinds of Thunder magic. I charged in, sword held high.
The sage looked over and began chanting, words of power appearing in the air. My eyes widened- it had to be some sort of ancient tome. Most likely… "Mjolnir! Get out of there!" a male voice yelled frantically from behind me. If anything, the voice threw me off and I just kind of stood there as the sage finished chanting.
Who would have thought? Dying so close to my homeland. Then, something slammed into my side and I went sprawling to the side as the round where I was standing erupted in an explosion of pure energy. The figure who tackled me leapt up and drew his own tome. "Rationis cremer igne!" Ancient tomes are popping up all over the place.
The sage yelled as the ground beneath him turned into a churning mass of boiling lava, and a plume of fire completely engulfed him. When the fire died, all that was left was a somehow untouched tome. My rescuer glared at me. "Battle is not the time to stand around and get hit you know!" he said, wagging a finger in an almost comical kind of way.
I stood up. "U-understood sir." I said, getting up and brushing the cobblestone from my armor. I looked up at him. His hair was stark white and he had gray eyes that were searching me, seemingly looking for my weaknesses. I don't doubt it. "I'm Robin." He said, offering me my sword, which I had dropped after taking a tumble.
I nodded. "Kir'yu." I took the sword and looked around. Robin followed my gaze. "Don't bother. The battle is pretty much over. The enemy forces are retreating. Chrom struck down the enemy commander." I nodded, not at all surprised to hear that Chrom was here. "You better come back and meet the others." Robin decided, and deeming that no more had to be said, he turned around and walked back towards the beach.
ROBIN'S POV
I do so enjoy playing the mysterious vigilante role whenever we recruit somebody new. Of course, the act is normally ruined by dinner. Tonight was no exception.
Thankfully, since the war effort had begun, Sully was relieved of cooking duties. ('My cooking is just as good as the crap you all make!') So dinner was palatable. I was sitting alone with a big pile of troop transfer paperwork. The pen might be mightier than the sword, but I would much rather be using a sword than a pen.
"Hello, Father!" Morgan set her plate down and took the chair across from me. Morgan was incredibly accident prone around important paperwork so I shuffled the forms into a pile and tucked them into my robe. "Evening, Morgan. How did you fare in the battle?" We were currently occupying an abandoned fort a few hours' march from the battlefield.
Morgan grinned. "It was great! I got out unharmed!" I nodded approvingly. "That's excellent, Morgan. How was your swordwork?" five minutes of tactical banter later, Christian and Lucina joined us. Technically it was never planned like this, but it always happened anyway.
So, the rest of the meal was normal until we went to clean up. "I'll handle the plates!" Morgan said and leapt up, gathering the four mess-smeared platters away from the table and balancing them on one hand. "Morgan, I don't think you should-" The warning came too late as she pitched forward and sent the plates skittering across the floor, shattering them to sharp, pointy shards.
"…Do that." Lucina finished with a sigh. I could tell Christian was struggling not to laugh. I sighed as well. Parenthood. A few minutes later, we had cleared the wreckage with only minor injuries to the hands. Needless to say, the vigilante role was more shattered than our plated.
"I think I'm about ready to go to sleep. We're marching early in the morning." I said, holding back a fake yawn. Lucina nodded. "I will get some rest too." I looked at her. "Lucy, actually get some sleep tonight, ok? We have guards stationed and I'll come running if you have any nightmares."
Having adjacent tents was the most Chrom would allow. In the beginning he wanted our sleeping areas on opposite sides of camp, but once Lucina had started having nightmares again, he grudgingly moved us.
War wasn't the best thing in the world, but it certainly wasn't the worst.
