MAL'RAI'S POV
"HE WHAT?" Lucina screamed, pulling Falchion from its sheath. I stepped back, wondering whether or not faking falling asleep would save me or not. She might take out her anger on me still. "Chrom told him not to go, but he seemed bent on it." I said, one hand on one of the many daggers lining my belt. Just in case.
Then, I saw what I thought was impossible: Lucina buried her face in her hands, and began to cry. I kind of squirmed awkwardly. Crying girls weren't my thing. Especially crying girls who I had looked up to as a solid impenetrable hero. I was contemplating getting Kir'yu when she looked up.
"S-Sorry Mal'rai, that was pretty unleaderlike of me. How large was the force he brought?" I fidgeted. I had no clue. "Um, perhaps a thousand men?" Complete lie, but it seemed to calm Lucina down. "Thank you for telling me, Mal'rai. You are dismissed." I nodded and left the room. Poor, poor Lucina. She probably needs some alone time.
"Mal'rai!" I cringed as Kjelle came striding up to me in full battle armor. "Hello…. Kjelle." I said, blinking. "Where is Kir'yu?" She demanded, banging the butt of her spear against the ground. I rolled my eyes. This again. Kjelle probably challenged my brother four times a week. Yet, that apparently wasn't enough.
"I saw him at the mess tent." I lied. Kjelle nodded and charged off, her armor clanking as she shouted defiantly. I sighed. I swayed on my feet and went to find my tent. Already, my energy was all but gone. I slowly started towards my bedroll, but ended up curling up on the ground. It was a nice, warm evening. The ground couldn't be that….. bad…..
ROBIN'S POV
Hey, remember when I said I was an idiot? Oh, I haven't said that yet. Getting ahead of myself. I'm an idiot. I realized that soon after starting along the path to intercept Walhart's huge army with my 50 men. The odds were definitely stacked against us. I didn't realize just how much until we got there.
"DON'T LET THEM SCATTER YOU DAMMIT!" I screamed over the howling wind. Couple that with the pelting rain and the fight was in shambles. I kid you not when I say the cavalry was riding right through us. Then, Walhart arrived.
He strode through the grassy plain like he owned the place, which I guess he did considering almost all of Valm was his. He zeroed in on me and his eyes narrowed. "Are you the one who commands these pitiful forces?" Gulp. "Yes, I am!" I wanted to yell, but it came out like "Uhhh yes sir."
Walhart laughed in a cold way and pulled his weapon off his back- a 6 foot long red axe that was the stuff of nightmares. I took out my sword, which was pitiful by comparison.
He rode towards me and swung downward. The fight was almost over before it began. Luckily, a bit of movement returned to my arms and I blocked the strike with my sword. I stumbled back, in awe of his power. Walhart stared down at me from his horse with disdain, as if I were a fly who landed on his plate.
"I have no time for this. I shall kill you here and ride on to destroy your filthy allies." He said, and then swung downwards with a roar. I leapt backwards just in time, only to slip on the rain-soaked ground and fall. Walhart smirked and sent his axe downward again, confident of victory.
I'll admit it. I chickened out and shut my eyes, waiting for the grisly end. However, death did not claim me yet. Death still had its due.
There was a sickening thud and I opened my eyes in shock in time to see the blade of Walhart's axe toss a dark-cloaked human figure across the plain like a rag doll. Without worrying about Walhart, I dashed over to them.
As soon as I saw the wound, I knew it was too late. However, the identity of the person was what surprised me the most. "R-Robin." He croaked, putting a hand on his wound as if to block the blood flow. I shook my head. "What the HELL did you do that for? You don't owe me anything!"
He smirked weakly. "I owe you Blue's happiness. That's more than I could ever repay you for." Honestly it was all I could do to not scream. He adopted a more serious face. "Listen, all that matters is I've been following your party. I don't think anyone thought I survived, but I did. Anyway, I'm telling you right now you can't beat this guy. All you can do is take a blow and play dead for everything you're worth."
I shook my head again. "What about you?" He chuckled. "I have no chance of living this time, I'm afraid. So take this and skedaddle." He held out his hand, revealing a finely polished red gem, which cast a faint red aura. The air caught in my throat. "Is that Gules? How did you get your hands on it?" He chuckled weakly. "I am a thief, aren't I?"
I took the gemstone and placed it in my pocket. "You're a hero, you know that?" I said, standing up shakily. Thomas smiled. "Yeah. I guess I am."
