JASON'S POV

Augustus was frowning. "We'll never be able to make it out of this neck of the woods with this many parties combing it." I frowned. "We were in the forest yesterday, Gus." Augustus rolled his eyes. "It's a metaphor, Jason." Oh.

"Why are there so many Valmese parties out there anyway?" I complained. "Well, I think Walhart's on edge because Yen'fay bit it. He thinks it might set the renegades, us, into action. So he's trying to keep the RoV from growing any larger. Most likely they're hunting down all of the major warriors of Valm. Perseus contacted me yesterday. He and Madelyn are all right, although a trio of the creeps did attack them. An entire squadron hit Gerik and Nick, but some of the Ylissean forces saved them. So that's another possible ally."

I nodded. Things were looking up. We sat there for a minute, poring over the mirage sphere, when Gus raised an eyebrow. "What is it?" I asked, looking into the three-dimensional live-feed map. Gus chuckled. "We've got allies. All the Valmese are flooding towards them."

I grinned. "Clobbering time?" I said hopefully. Gus nodded. "Clobbering time. Let's roll!" We both dropped out of the tree we were positioned in. I quickly adjusted my armor straps and charged as stealthily as I could towards our definition. "…Idiot." Gus muttered, and jogged after me, an axe in each hand.

It didn't take long to reach the battlefield. A large plain with high grass reaching up to my chest. I glanced at Gus. He tapped his head, pointed down to the ground, drew a line across his throat with a finger, and pounded both fists together. I nodded. There was a large silent vocabulary of commands that each member of the RoV had to learn. I was no exception.

I got down on all fours; my two lances strapped firmly to my back, and began to crawl, the grass completely obscuring my figure. I couldn't see the three RoV who had arrived, but I could only trust my instinct that I wasn't about to sink my lance into one. Silently, I waited.

Then, from across the field, Gus whistled four notes. Anyone other than a Renegade would think it was a passing bird. But I knew better. "DIE, SCUM!" I yelled, and erupted from the grass, pulling both spears off my back, and in a simultaneous motion, stabbed the two Valmese in front of me through the chest and flung them away like rag dolls.

We had crashed a party.

CRONA'S POV

"Our headquarters were raided?" I said incredulously. Dana squeaked nervously and nodded. I sighed. "How many of our soldiers lives were lost?" Dana thought for a moment. "Only two. But… the stranger thing is…" I motioned for her to continue. "T-the man we were helping was gone! I don't think he did it though, because his sheets were soaked with blood. I think he was attacked and killed or taken prisoner; but he's not even fully healed yet!"

I nodded. "I see. I suppose we should get back there before-" Dana's eyes widened. "SIR CRONA LOOK OUT!" She screamed, and tackled me. I got up a few seconds later, shaking my head. "What was that fo- Oh." It was really an 'oh' moment. In that instant, an entire horde of soldiers stepped out from the undergrowth, circling us completely.

"We've been followed." Dana said meekly. I smiled. "I was wondering when I would get to fight again. My sword hand is so out of practice I was afraid I'm going to get rusty." Dana's eyes widened. "Sir Crona! You can't fight! What would the Renegades do without their leader?"

I scoffed. "Dana, your care is touching, but I'm leader for a reason. I can handle myself in a fight." Dana nodded uneasily. "Hand me your Teleport staff for a second?" I asked, putting a hand out. She put it into my hands nervously. "You aren't going to teleport them all away, are you?" she asked, worried. I laughed. "Gods no. But you see, my magic proficiency is quite high. I should have no trouble using this to get you back to headquarters."

Dana gasped. "Sir I can't leave you all-!" the Teleport staff shattered to pieces. It must have been worn. How disappointing. I faced down all of my assailants by taking a slow circle. "What weapon to use? Maybe all of them?" I said to them, smiling. There was a ripple of laughter.

"How disappointing. You don't believe me." I said with a shake of my head. I sensed movement behind me. Fast as possible, I turned around, fell to a knee, pulled out my bow and shot an arrow. An archer fell from a tree, arrow still nocked. "The great Renegade leader is an archer?" somebody called. "Get him!"

I casually sniped the remaining three archers from their perches as the enemies charged in. There was a 20-yard gap on all sides. I sidestepped to avoid a spear, and shot the weapon bearer off his horse. I quickly identified two soldiers with throwing axes and killed them both before they could take aim.

They were almost on me now. I shot one last arrow and threw the bow at the nearest cavalier. The horse, not appreciating having a 12-pound mass of silver thrown at it, reared, ejecting and then stomping on its rider repeatedly. "He's weaponless. Advance slowly." The commander ordered.

The pace slowed down. Idiots. I glanced from soldier to soldier, looking for a weapon to suit my needs. Then I spotted the commander's silver sword sheathed at his waist. Perfect. I dashed forward, open handed. The commander laughed and drew the sword.

I leapt into the air and kicked him square in the face like a kamikaze bird. I used the momentum to land outside the circle. "I suppose I could run." I contemplated. "But I do suppose I should mop these fools up." I turned around and grabbed the commander in a chokehold.

SNAP!

I picked up the sword from the fallen commander and slashed the air in front of me. "Come on then. Show me the might of the Valmese!" So they did. It was a very pitiful battle. I slashed, hacked, and jabbed my way through the ranks like I was tearing through paper. Turning said paper into confetti would be the most accurate.

I dropped the sword, and retrieved my bow and all but one arrow- it had broken by the shaft.
