The early morning traffic in Jump City was light in comparison to its usual daytime amount. Breaks in traffic occurred more frequently as most of the city were sleeping for at least a few more hours before the work day officially begun. Taxis carried home the occasional bar hopper while police cruisers made sure no one was causing mischief and maintaining a safe city for the citizens until day shift took over. With everything as it usually was, no one suspected the amount of destruction that would come next.
Marching down the main street running through the center of the city, several robed figures ignored the vehicles swerving to avoid running them down. Horns honked, voices yelled, and some vehicles ran into each other as the figures continued to make their way to the harbor a few miles ahead of them.
Traveling down the street, a semi-truck driver finished drinking the last of his coffee when he saw the group of figures in the middle of the road. Their appearance came so unexpectedly, he spit up his caffeinated drink and tried to steer around them.
"Oh, jeez!" Slamming on the brakes, he could not dodge them in time and began to swerve back and forth, eventually causing the long trailer he was transporting to jackknife on him.
Ramming into a minivan, the big rig flipped over on its side and scraped along the street, coming ever closer to the group. Holding his hand up, the lead figure took a stance and thrusted his hand forward the moment the truck's cabin came into range. The force he exerted was powerful enough to send the vehicle away violently as people began to abandon their cars to run to safety, screaming while doing so.
"You know what to do," Brother Blood said as he took his hood and robe off to expose his armor. "Draw them out. Force her to use her powers on me. And you will join me in paradise when this is all through."
Removing their robes, Silver Banshee, Scarecrow, Aqualad, Blue Devil, Riddler, Batman, Kid Devil, and a newly turned Lilith, scattered to do their master's bidding.
Titan Tower

Breaking the silence of the darkened base of the Titans, emergency lights sounded with a pulsing alarm to wake the team from their slumber. Rushing out of their rooms, Tim and Garfield entered the hallway with Victor being the third. Raven and Terra exited their rooms soon after, following Tim who hurried to the living area. Pulling up a holo-keyboard, the Titan leader was soon joined by the others and Koriand'r as he had the large TV screen to see what the alarm was about. Footage of the city streets from the perspective of the traffic cameras showed something they were not expecting, the seemingly resurrected teammates they lost destroying Jump City.
"What the-" Garfield said as he and the others stared at the ones responsible for the destruction.
"Fransisco?" Tim whispered. "Eddie?"
"Tim, orders." Facing the Titan leader, Cyborg waited for his orders but saw he was fixed on what he was watching. "Tim."
"Batman. Blue Devil. Aqualad."
"Tim!"
"R, right. Suit up. Cyborg, alert the League and black ops team. We move out in five. Go!"
As Tim, Cyborg, and Koriand'r headed for the locker rooms, Garfield ran back to his room, attracting the attention of Raven and Terra.
"Gar, what are you doing?" Terra asked.
"Getting my phone." Grabbing his cell from his bedside table, the green teen slid his finger across the screen and brought up his speed dial.
"There's trouble, who are you going to call?" Raven flatly asked.
"We need everyone, so I'm calling Sis and Conner."

"Fire! Fire!" Several police officers taking cover behind a parked cruiser fired shot after shot at the airborne woman heading right for them.
Dodging the shots, Silver Banshee loped around the line of fire and swooped in low at the three officers. Picking one up, she flung him into the fourth floor of a nearby building then regained her altitude. Coming back around, she inhaled then let loose a violent scream, sending the car into the remaining two cops who could not move away in time.
"Get them off! Get them off!"
"Their eating my fingers!"
"Why are you just standing there? The ground is lava! The, ground, is, lava!"
"Rats! Rats!"
Away from Silver Banshee's attack, Scarecrow walked down the street with his fear dust being breathed in by the populace. Dozens of citizens ran away from the hallucinations they were seeing as the fear master took out any who came close to him with his sickle, laughing darkly as he did so.
Leaping from the side of a building, Kid and Blue Devil landed in the center of the street and tossed anything they came across. Both worked in tandem to create havoc and destroy any vehicle they targeted. Explosions rocked the area as the two devilish looking former heroes terrorized the city streets.
"Yes, let your true selves out, my disciples!" Brother Blood yelled as he stood in the center of the chaos. "Prepare the world for the emergence of Trigon!"
"Or not!" Robin yelled.
Swooping in on Sphere, the Titans leapt out of the sentient machine once they were close to the ground and took positions in an attack formation.
"Children. So young. So foolish." Cracking his neck, Brother Blood was ready to put them down when he saw his target. "What is it you mortals say? Come and get some?"
Striking the ground in front of the team of Titans, several Bat-a-Rangs beeped with yellow lights blinking. Shouting for them to scatter, Robin had them clear out before the bat-shaped objects exploded. Recovering, the team saw they were surrounded by Batman, Vibe, and Aqualad.
"Leave Blood to the League when they get here. Cyborg, you and Starfire go after Banshee and Scarecrow. Raven, Beast Boy, Terra take down Vibe and Aqualad. I'll take Batman." With Robin's orders given, the team moved out, leaving Brother Blood behind.
"Raven," Brother Blood said as the cloaked girl floated into the air.
Hearing her name called, Raven turned to see Brother Blood standing still with a menacing smile. She was almost sure he was solely after her with the way he looked at her.
Arriving as quickly as they could, the first members of the Justice League took in as much as they could once they saw the complete situation Cyborg had called them in for. With the Boom Tube closing behind them, Hawkman and Hawk Woman flew into action while Black Canary, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman charged forward. Above them, two green streaks of light came into view as Kyle and Guy arrived.
"Whoo! Here we go, Kid!" Green Lantern Guy yelled. "Time to cut loose! Or as loose as we can get before our fun is spoiled by 'the man'."
Shaking his head, Green Lantern Kyle could only think of what Hal and John told him, 'Never listen to Guy unless he shuts up'.
Another Boom Tube opened, releasing Blue Beetle, Batgirl, the younger Robin, Arrowette, Nightwing, Kid Flash, and Wonder Girl into the city.
"What the-" Wonder Girl said as she saw people rush past her and the rest of the team.
"Beetle, help Cyborg," Nightwing ordered once he saw the cybernetic Titan fighting Scarecrow. Arrowette, see about helping Green Arrow with...Kid Devil?!"
Looking where Nightwing was staring, the team saw the long thought dead Kid Devil combating Green Arrow and just arrived Static.
"Feels like we entered the Twilight Zone," Kid Flash said. "Which reminds me, I kind of need this."
Quickly reaching for the Boom Tube remote, Kid Flash sped off to act on his own, removing the injured people he came across.
"Kid Flash!" Nightwing yelled when he was struck from behind.
Getting back up, the former sidekick of Batman saw Lilith and Aqualad standing behind him. The Atlantean's water bearers took on the shape of swords, only red in color, while Lilith stood from striking him in the back.
"Kaldur?"
Crashing through a brick wall, Cyborg scrambled to get back to his feet and back into the fight. Transforming his left forearm into a cannon, he targeted Scarecrow when a burst of sparks flew from his wrist joint, almost causing a backfire. A diagnostic readout in his robotic eye indicated the near invulnerable criminal damaged a vital circuit in his arm to prevent him from using his main weapon.
"Blue Beetle, I need time to recalibrate my sonic cannon. Hold him off." Opening up his forearm, Cyborg went about repairing what he could.
"Got it, ese." Swooping down, Blue Beetle morphed his arms into scythes and attacked Scarecrow head on.
Blocking the swipes, the cult's enforcer came close to striking the armored teen with a reverse slice of his own when a large, green fist smashed into his upper body. Crashing into an overturned car, Scarecrow planted his feet then slowly flipped upwards as if he had no bones. Running forward, he grabbed his fallen sickle and leaped into the air, striking Blue Beetle in the back to force him to crash into the street.
As the blue and black hero got to his knees, Scarecrow again leapt into the air with his weapon held above his head to strike down the recovering teen when Lantern blocked the attack with a shield construct.
"Fear, child!"
Rearing back, Scarecrow spread his arms and expelled more of his fear dust. The yellow substance covered the street with Blue Beetle and Lantern as well. The few citizens trying to hide inside the buildings breathed in the dust, growing crazed with fear and panicking as they saw their nightmares come to life. As for the two teens, Lantern's protective aura and Blue Beetle's armor kept them safe from the effects of the dust.
Combining his arms, Blue Beetle formed a large canon out of his armor and fired a massive pulse shot at Scarecrow. Amping up the power, Blue Beetle caught the flimsy villain in the center of the column of energy he fired and watched as the master of fear fell to his knees, screaming at the top of his lungs as the straw making up his body fell away to expose Jonathan Crane underneath.
"Dude!" Lantern yelled. "You, you found a way to bring them back."
"We can get them back." Blue Beetle said. "We can get them back!"
"Ha ha!"
Smiling, Blue Beetle was about to contact Cyborg when he grew stiff from a sudden jolt. Looking down, he saw a red light snake out of his chest before being pushed forward and falling to the pavement.
"Jaime!" Lantern yelled when he saw Brother Blood standing behind his armored friend. "No!"
Aiming his ring as the cult leader, Lantern powered up for a shot when he was hit from behind. Lowering a smoking canon, Cyborg, now with a pale color to him with red eyes, stood with his weapon trained on the young hero.
"Pathetic little child," Brother Blood said. "You cannot stop a god. Nor can you stop its right hand."
Standing, a pale Blue Beetle formed his scythes on both hands. "Hail, Trigon."
Across the city, Beast Boy and Terra had separated from the others when Robin and Batman had begun to fight. Both teens were fending off the fear mad populace who saw them as monsters. Most fought out of desperation to hold them off from the others, giving into their fight response instead of their flight instinct.
"Really sucks we have to fight the people we protect," Terra said as she created a deep, steep crater to trap a gang of incoming people.
"Just try not to hurt them." Morphing into a bear, Beast Boy batted a few citizens to the side as he tried to get his blonde partner.
"BB, Terra, Move!" Firing three arrows, Arrowette snagged a large group of incoming citizens intending on ambushing the duo.
"Arowette, what happened to your team?" Terra asked once the archer got to where they stood.
"That Blood guy's going around stabbing everyone with his dagger. We lost Wonder Girl and Nightwing to him when I got separated after Guardian and Bumble Bee jumped me and Batgirl.
"Incoming!" Crashing onto the street, Lantern left a trail of upturned asphalt and groaned as he sat up.
"Lantern," Beast Boy yelled.
"Hmmmgh, Cyborg, packs a, punch." Standing with the help of his green friend, Lantern was relieved to see they were unnoticed for now. "Any ideas how we stop the cult, League, and black ops team?"
"You can't, children." Standing before the group, Brother Blood flashed his sharpened fangs. "You cannot deny a god, a god that has granted me eternal life and limitless power."
"Oh shut up already." Creating a large canon on his shoulder, Lantern fired a massive beam of energy at the cult leader, hitting him dead center mass.
"Your feeble weapons cannot hurt the right hand of Trigon! You will all serve him! You wil all surrender your lives to-"
"Azeroth Metreon Zenthos!"
Forming a large circle of black energy under the cult leader, Raven had it explode upwards, catching him off guard and sending him airborne. As she joined her friends, she missed seeing Brother Blood crash head first into the asphalt with a sickening crack of bone.
As if nothing happened, the leader of the Church of Blood stood back up. What should have killed him only slowed him down. Bones in his neck fixed back in place and healed quickly, each time cracking as they set themselves.
"What does it take to beat this guy?" Lantern asked.
"The dagger," Raven muttered.
Raven, wait!" Beast Boy shouted as his fellow Titan flew into the air.
Summoning her energy, Raven uttered her mantra again, this time centering on the three bladed dagger Brother Blood held. With her eyes glowing white, she unleashed a massive amount of her dark energy on the weapon when the cult leader held it above him. Instead of destroying the weapon like she intended, the dark majicks she used were absorbed into the blades. The more going in, the more it seemed to glow a bright silver.
"Yes!" Brother Blood yelled. "The final sacrifice! The one who lives in darkness, but walks in light!"
Letting go of the blade, Brother Blood watched as it hurtled to the Goth girl and stabbed her in the chest.
"Rachel!" Beast Boy yelled as he shot forward to catch the falling girl.
"I'll cover you!" Firing several trick arrows, Arrowette landed each shot, causing several explosions to cover the cultist. "Run!"
"Where to?" Terra yelled.
"The tower!" Lantern answered. Forming a dome over them, he lifted them all into the air and flew them to the island where the Titan base was located.
Behind them, Brother Blood laughed maniacally as the energy he absorbed into the dagger began to cover his entire body. Fusing with the souls of the earlier sacrifices, a light burst forth from his body, ending the laughing, but changing it into a low, monstrous roar. The ground cracked, buildings tumbled, fire fell from the sky, and the once blue sea turned red.
Entering the outskirts of Jump City, the Martian Bioship flew towards the fire and destruction with two passengers not believing their eyes at what they saw.
"Conner," Mrs. Martian said in disbelief. "What-"
"I..."
As the ship drew closer, a large mass grew taller than the buildings surrounding it. A roar tore through the air as smoke faded off the object with a pure, red being emerging from it. Horns mounted on its head impaled the sky with two sets of yellow eyes opened to take in the space around it. Its bare chest enlarged as it took a breath, flexing its massive arms with claws at the end of each finger. More fire filled the ground around it as it moved to grow even taller, as it was actually kneeling down. A large black belt with a gold buckle held up pitch black pants with cloven hooves poking out of the bottom in place of feet.
"What, what is that thing?" Mrs. Martian asked as she floated to the front of her ship and grabbed onto her husband's arm.
Shaking his head, Superboy still could not believe his eyes as what he beheld.
"Conner, the team!"
Pointing to the harbor, which was now red, Mrs. Martian identified a green sphere racing to the tower.
"Get to the island," Superboy ordered. "And let me out here."
Mentally commanding her ship to go into auto pilot, Mrs. Martian opened up a hole in the bottom of the red vehicle for Superboy and herself to head into the fray. Both former Titans flew to the island where it looked their old team was heading to.
Within the green sphere Lantern created to transport the group, Arrowette tended to the injured Raven with a med pack while Beast Boy tried to get her to stay awake.
"I, I need to he, heal," Raven weakly said.
"Need a plan here," Lantern told everyone of the group.
"Just give me time to stop the, well there's no blood, but let me patch up the hole." Grabbing a bandage, Arrowette applied it to the three holes the dagger created in Raven's chest.
"My, my tome." Grunting, Raven shifted to her side. "I need my tome from my room."
"Now's not the time to read, Rae," Terra told her.
"It has a, a spell I can use."
"That's the plan, Kyle," Beast Boy told the Green Lantern. "Get us to the tower and to Raven's room."
"Taking the lead again?" Lantern asked.
"It's what I was trained to do."
Arriving at the tower, the group held onto each other as Lantern opened up a hole in the green container they were in for Arrowette to fire a C-4 explosive arrow at the glass. The blast was just enough to crack it for the Green Lantern of the group to smash through it afterwards. Landing in the living area, Lantern dropped his construct and took off to his room to retrieve his lantern battery while Garfield left for Raven's room to grab the book she wanted.
"Um, Terra?" Arrowette said as she kept watch at the window. "Do you remember seeing Virgil on our side or Blood's side?"
"Our side, why?"
"Well, he switched sides."
Diving behind the remaining window. Arrowette readied an arrow as Static let loose a series of electric tendrils where the blonde once stood. After the attack, she quickly aimed and fired a bola trick arrow at the black teen who deflected it with an electric bolt. Knocking another arrow, the former Titan was about to fire again when the flying teen was struck down by Superboy.
"Conner!"
"What's going on?" Superboy yelled as he floated a few feet from the window.
"It's the end of the world as we know it and I don't feel fine!"
Joining her husband, Mrs. Martian caught and countered an attack by Wonder Girl. She sent the demi-Amazon through a window of the tower four floors down.
"Why are our friends attacking us?" Using her telekinesis, Mrs. Martian held Static down and attempted to brain blast him. "Guh, I can't reach his mind. Something's-"
"They're possessed or something!" Arrowette told her. "That Brother Blood guy's controlling them and Raven's hurt! We-"
"Conner," the Martian yelled when she saw two incoming former friends, "We have company! What's the plan?!"
"Raven's got a spell, but needs her book!' Arrowette yelled. "Terra's looking after her but we need time!"
"We'll get you some!" Flying away from the tower, Superboy headed to his wife as they saw Wonder Girl recovering and Aqualad joining the fight with Guardian beside him.
Attacking first, the Atlantean used one of his water bearers to strike at Superboy. The Kryptonian blocked the whip-like weapon with his forearm, which was abad idea on his part as it seared his flesh from being infused with magic. Letting out a yell, he yanked his arm free in time to see his possessed friend leap up with sharpened weapons set on being buried into his body.
Dodging the attack, Superboy spun to his side at the last moment and struck out with a clubbing blow to Aqualad's back. He was soon tackled to the ground by Guardian who in turn was thrown off him. Leaping up, Superboy slammed his fist on the dirt, using his TTK to send out a shockwave to drive his two opponents to the ground. By the time he looked up, he saw Mrs. Martian plant Wonder Girl and Static into the soil with her Telekinesis.
"They're being controlled," Mrs. Martian yelled at him. "I can't read their minds or stun them. They're not fighting like themselves!"
Across the bay, the large form roared loudly, shattering the windows around him. Looking out into the harbor, he spotted the married couple regrouping after defeating the three possessed heroes. Making a fist, the red demon formed a large spear, wound up, and hurled it at the island, looking to kill one of the two. The weapon cut through the air at an incredible rate, nearing the island when the Martian Bioship flew in front of it to protect her owner. The result was the otherworldly vehicle exploding in a bright ball of fire.
Screaming at the top of her lungs, Mrs. Martian grabbed her head and fell to the ground. The destruction of her living ship sent a sharp pain through her mind, as they were mentally connected. Hearing his wife make such a noise scared Superboy who turned just in time to see her fall.
"M'gann!"
Rushing to her side, he heard another roar and looked up into the sky where another spear was heading towards her. Jumping into flight, he raced the projectile and grabbed his wife to move her out of the way when she saw the incoming weapon. Wanting to protect her husband from the magic fueled spear, she turned him around and phased both her and him to safely allow the spear to pass though them.
With the spear hitting the ground, both aliens looked each other in the eyes. Conner stared down at his wife with his lips tight, a gust of air shot from his nose as he swallowed a lump in his throat. M'gann stared up at her husband with her mouth slightly open, a shallow breath slipped through her lips as they quivered.
Reaching up, the Martian touched the side of her husband's face gently. He in turn wrapped his arms around her to hold her. Both shed tears as they let their foreheads touch, breathing rapid, shallow breaths. With a hand behind her head, Conner drew her in as she did the same to him for one last kiss as they mentally said their 'I love you's' to each other. M'gann's density shift did not work on the spear, and Conner's body was weak against magic. Both were impaled trying to save each other with the only thing holding them up was the spear.
"I...I..." M'gann tried to say when the light in her eyes faded.
Letting out his last breath, Conner sunk into her as the spear disappeared. Both bodies fell to the ground, still in each others arms with their eyes staring into each other. Seeing his work done, the fire born form grinned and let out a snort.
Up in the tower, Kyle rejoined Terra and Raven with Beast Boy handing the injured Titan the book she requested. Arrowette kicked open a bookcase and grabbed an extra quiver of arrows before joining the group.
"Sis, Conner, we got the book! We can- M'gann!" Looking down from the window Beast Boy saw his blood sister and brother-in-law lying on the ground with their arms around each other. "M'gann! Conner!"
Muttering a spell, Raven's eyes changed to a pure white. As the demon roared again, a black and purple portal opened behind the group. "Get in!"
"Garfield, we have to go!" Arrowette shouted.
"Not without M'gann and Conner!" Wanting to go back, Beast Boy was stopped by Kyle.
"They're gone," the Lantern yelled. "We have to go, now!"
"No they're...not!" Struggling against the Green Lantern's construct aided grip, Beast Boy fought to stay behind but was forced back.
Helping Raven, Terra entered the portal with her first. Arrowette followed next with Lantern pulling Beast Boy in last. The entire time, the green teen never stopped yelling for his mother and father figures.
Hate me? Love me? Somewhere in between? It's not over yet.
