BRADY'S POV

After about 30 seconds, the explosions died down as the spell faded. Slowly, while keeping my eyes on the enemy, I lowered my Ward Staff. "T-talk about a close call, Brady." Christian said shakily. "What, would'ya rather I left ya to die?" I retorted, checking him for injuries.

"Its just my shoulder, Brady." He said, flexing his right shoulder. There was a small gash in the fabric, but blood had caked his cloak already. I quickly took out my Mend Staff and stitched up the wound before bandaging it. "Now get back in the fray already. I gotcha back."

Christian nodded. "Just keep Micaiah off of me. I'll handle the rest."

CHROM'S POV

It only took a few minutes of combat to realize a few crucial things about this battle. For instance, the fact that the enemy greatly outnumbered us, or the fact that they had us surrounded, trapping us like rats.

I had no choice but to wander blindly through the blizzard in hopes of finding the Longfort gate. I was making my way forward, the snow impeding my every step. As if my day couldn't get any worse, I caught my foot on something and fell on my face.

Only allowing enough time for a groan, I got to my feet, spitting snow out of my face. I turned around to see what had tripped me, and did a double take. Lying spread-eagled in the snow was Lucina.

Upon closer observation she was unconscious, but breathing, and had a wound just below her heart. And, perhaps the most noticeable fact, she was half-frozen. Not really surprising in this weather.

Falchion was lying in the snow a few feet away, so I went to retrieve it. It would be bad if the snow buried it. However, lying on the blade was a small rectangle with a portrait on the front. With a frown, I picked it up and studied it closer.

The portrait depicted a young-ish girl with long, straight, light blue hair. Despite the fact that she looked a little on the frailer side, she glared out of the picture with intensity.

At the bottom of the bottom of the card was a small caption. "Eirika, princess of Renais? That sounds oddly familiar…" I muttered. However, my mutterings would have to wait, due to the fact more important things were about to happen.

As soon as the name of the card left my mouth, the entire thing began to give off copious amounts of purple light, reflecting off the snow giving the ground an eerie glow. Without hesitation, I dropped it in the snow.

The snowstorm seemed to stop as a figure rose from the dropped card, which promptly vanished. The figure immediately dropped the large cowl covering her face. To my great surprise, standing before me was Eirika.

"Captain, I await your orders." She said simply, bowing. This was rather unsettling. "Uh… Carry Lucina to safety and then… report back to me!" I said, wondering if this was a ploy or not.

The fact that she rose out of a card, oddly enough, made me trust her. "Of course, Captain. I will return as quickly as I can." She said with a nod. She then turned, slung Lucina over her shoulder like she weighed nothing, and bounded off into the snowstorm.

"That was… peculiar." I muttered. I turned around to continue in the direction of the Longfort, and promptly bumped into a mass of black. I immediately leapt back, my instincts kicking in as I drew Falchion.

"It is peculiar, isn't it…" the 'mass of black' I bumped into was evidently a person. But the thing that put me off was the fact that… he was huge. He stood easily above seven feet, with broad shoulders and bulging muscles, which were plain to see even under the huge black cloak that covered him.

"…That the Einherjar are so quick to change their allegiance, that is." he said in a deep, almost inhuman growl. I doubt I need to say this but I don't like the idea of fighting this man one bit.

He must have seen me tense, because he laughed for a solid minute. It really did wonders for my self-esteem let me tell you. "I don't have the five seconds I would need to spare to crush you, little Prince." He said, reaching into his cloak.

"However, my allies here should be more than enough for you!" quick as a flash, he flicked his wrist and five of the cards similar to the one Eirika came from were sticking out of the snow, creating a line between the two of us.

"Come forth, Lyon! Glen! Selena! Duessel! Caellach!" The cars began to glow purple, just as Eirika's had, and the figures rose slowly from the snow. Upon hearing those names, I immediately recognized them. As well as Eirika.

It was a rainy day between the Plegian and Valm war, and all of us were castle-bound. So naturally, Robin thought it would be a great idea to read me the entire history of Magvel, a continent far away from Ylisse and even Valm.

All of the figures I had encountered came from a war that stretched from 703-705 against the mighty Demon King. Eirika had been the heroine, along with her brother King Ephraim, who had slew the king and sealed him within a vessel called a 'Sacred Stone'.

Lyon had been the prince of the enemy empire of Grado, and the host of the Demon King. The other four were two thirds of Grado's generals. The thing that bothered me the most was that, with the exception of the dastardly general Caellach, the other three generals opposed the war. Duessel even joined Ephraim's party.

It made absolutely no sense, but I was good as dead.

Jack's Corner

I'm going to tell you all right now, if you've only played Fire Emblem: Awakening, you might not recognize some of the Einherjar who will be appearing. So, I will be trying my hardest to explain their backstory. If you're looking for a point of reference to Eirika, Lyon, Duessel, Glen, Selena, and Caellach, look to Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones for the GBA. If you're looking to find Micaiah and Sothe, look to Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Anyway, enjoy!
