CHROM'S POV (again)

Despite the raging blizzard, dead silence hung in the air for a solid twelve seconds. Of course, it didn't last much longer than that. "Duessel. Eradicate him." The man in black ordered, smirking faintly.

Slowly, without breaking eye contact, General Duessel withdrew a tomahawk from his side. I figured the noblest thing I could do was stand my ground as he brought the axe back.

However, thankfully, fate had other plans. "Oi, general!" a challenging shout rang out from behind me, and Duessel froze midswing. "You fool! Don't hesitate!" the man in black barked. "Eradicate him!"

Just then, Brady dashed past me with a staff in each of his hands, barreling towards Duessel. "A mere priest wishes to face me?" Duessel said, with a hint of humor in his voice. "I suppose I can allow this."

Brady was within swinging distance of Duessel. I barely had time to cry out as there was a flash of light. Brady was gone, and in his place was Christian, tome in hand. Duessel grunted in surprise as a spear of lightning magic impaled him through the chest. Soundlessly, his fall muffled by the snow, the general fell to the ground and vanished.

"What in Naga's name was that?" I yelled. Christian jogged leisurely back to me. "Tactics, Grandfather. It was tactics." He was smiling brightly despite being in the middle of a war zone. Perhaps he was more like Robin than I thought.

"ENOUGH OF THIS! KILL THEM BOTH!" the man who summoned the Einherjar screamed, pointing to us. I have a feeling he wasn't ordering them to tear up the grass. "Alright, what's the next move, Christian?" I asked, glancing over at him. Christian shrugged. "Now we wait."

Selena and Lyon both pulled out tomes and started chanting in some forgotten language as Caellach ran towards us. Glen shot into the air on his wyvern, and was soon obscured by the clouds.

"Christian!" I said urgently. Christian shrugged. "It'll be okay. Trust me!" At this point, I seriously doubted him. In fact, even he looked a little uneasy as Caellach closed the distance.

However, just then, the general stopped midstride. His face went slack, and his axe fell out of his hands. Without a sign of struggle, he fell to the ground and vanished. "What…?" If Brady's vanishing act had confused me before, this was even worse.

Then, a ray of light encased Lyon as he chanted. He faltered and looked around wildly. A look of realization dawned on his face as he was flung forwards by some invisible impact. With a thud, he landed a few feet away, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, and vanished.

A few seconds after that, a figure ran past me, heading for Selena. The Dark Knight looked up, and stopped chanting as the sky rumbled. "I call upon the power of the skies! Lend me your power, gods, as I smite these evildoers! I summon the Eternal Lightning, Bol-!"

Before she could finish, the figure reached her. I couldn't see the attack, but Selena vanished in another instant. The man in black looked around wildly. "My Einherjar… GLEN! SUNSTONE! RETURN TO ME!"

He raised his hands to the sky in a beckoning gesture. From above, visible through even the thick cloud layer, there was a burst of crimson light. A dark figure broke through the clouds and began descending quickly.

"Yes… my Sunstone… Kill the Ylisseans!" he cried. However, the figure did not react, and continued descending. The man's face turned to shock as Glen's wyvern, carrying Glen, crushed him before reverting to a card.

As the man twitched on the ground, several figures came into view. First, from the left, came a silver-haired girl and a green-haired man, equipped with a tome and a dagger respectively. Then, from Selena's direction, came Eirika. From the right came Brady, who was panting heavily. And finally, from the sky, came Joshua and Sean.

"We really showed them, huh!" Joshua said excited, in human form. "Yeah we showed them who's boss!" Brady said triumphantly. There was a general murmur of self-congratulation as the figure in black pulled himself to his feet.

"You think you have won here today?" he hissed, looking around at each of us. "Einherjar, I call you to me!" there were dozens, maybe hundreds of flashing purple lights as figures appeared in a ring around us. I even recognized a few.

King Marth, Jaegan, Ike, Elincia, Jil, Eliwood, The Black Knight, Nergal, Myrrh, and many, many more. "I will not allow you to escape here with your lives, even if I need to give my own!" the man bellowed, and withdrew two weapons I never thought I would have to face again.

The Twin Blades of Grima.
