Lady of the West, Daughter of the East

A few months after the Compass Ball, Lord Nishi of the Western Lands has called in the other lords for help fixing his rebellion issues. This will pull Lord Higashi and all five of his sons from the palace, leaving Lady Mai in charge of both kingdom and their daughter. Nikki has yet to show interest in any males, to her mother's great displeasure at the ball, though is secretly writing Sesshomaru as he is fighting by his father's side. Mai is anxious and willing to do anything to get Nikki to mate, and now that her only barrier (Higashi) is out of the picture temporarily there is nothing to stop her from having her way. Can Nikki survive her father's absence, or will there be one less member of the family at the dinner table from now on?

Chapter 6

It took several days before Sesshomaru got Nikki to leave her room and visit with her father and brothers. All were relieved to see her and valued their time with her as she kept her distance despite being in the same room, it was obvious the old Nikki was hidden inside and Sesshomaru was fighting with her to come out again.

"Kitten, it's good to see you out and about today," her father said, he was highly tense as he sat before her and watched her.

"Yes, Lord Sesshomaru convinced me to come see everyone today," Nikki said almost robotically as Sesshomaru seemed to sigh in frustration with her. He couldn't understand her shutting herself off with everyone but him.

"Well, he was right to do so," her father said as he watched her, "but it's been two months since my return and the imprisonment of those who harmed you."

"It feels like forever from when you rescued me," Nikki replied as her father nodded, it had felt like an eternity for everyone. "You want me to face them."

"Not if you're not ready," her father answered. "But I will need you to tell me what happened so that the accused can be punished." Nikki swallowed hard but made no movement to speak or look around, she had become very interested in a stray fiber on the floor.

"How many do you have imprisoned?" Nikki asked him softly. Her father looked at her slightly surprised but sighed as he thought about it, he had been so haisty on imprisoning people that he didn't think of who the actual perpretrators were.

"I have fifteen," he answered as she nodded and seemed to be thinking.

"The only people you should have imprisoned are mother," Nikki said and waivered a little, "as well as four guardsmen. Anyone else is innocent and deserves to be released as you beg them for forgivenesss." Her father nodded, amazed that all the chaos was caused by five people. That no one stood up to the five to stop the atrocity that had happened in his castle.

"Which four guardsmen?" Sesshomaru coaxed softly. Nikki looked up at him and both males could see the pain in her eyes as she remembered what had happened to her.

"Her two personal guardsmen, as well as my two," Nikki answered softly, both barely heard her. Higashi grew a furious look, the very males to protect his daughter were the ones to harm her.

"Then I will release the other ten and the five of them will be punished." Higashi said as Nikki nodded.

"Is that all I'm needed for?" Nikki asked uncertainly.

"Yes," Higashi said as Nikki nodded and seemed to be thinking. "Your mother will have to go on trial, the judges will be the other lords and their heirs."

"Sesshomaru cannot participate," Nikki said softly her father nodded in agreement, "he's biased."

"Yes," Higashi acknowledged in agreement, "they'll put Inuyasha in his stead." Sesshomaru nodded as Nikki looked at him uncertainly.

"Nikki, why don't you see how your brothers are doing outside? It has been a while since you have observed their training," Sesshomaru suggested figuring one of the activities she loved would calm her down and get her to relax some. Nikki nodded and headed out as Higashi sighed and thought about what he was told. "They will all die for these crimes," Sesshomaru reminded him after Nikki left.

"Yes, I know," Higashi said as he thought about it, "they deserve death for what they have done to her. Even Mai." Sesshomaru looked at him as Higashi thought about it. "I should personally see to the release of the other ten accused as it was I who ordered them down there to begin with."

"They may be unable to forgive at this point," Sesshomaru advised him. "If that is the case, let them live free." Higashi nodded as they both stood up and prepared to leave the room. "Also, this Sesshomaru wishes to discuss an important matter with you regarding your daughter."

"You wish to mate her," Higashi said as Sesshomaru nodded. "I can neither say yes, but I can also not say no."

"You are leaving it to Nikki's choice," Sesshomaru said as Higashi shook his head.

"No, I cannot leave that decision to her primarily because she does not understand her own mind right now. I will discuss it with her brothers and we will make the decision and then bring it up with her." Higashi said as Sesshomaru nodded while he listened. "I do not wish her to make a decision she will later regret, not that I believe that would happen in this case but I'd rather be careful."

Chapter 6 is a wee bit short, Chapter 7 is in progress and should prove to be much longer. I have a few tricks up my sleeve for the next few, I'm figuring on at least 10-15 chapters for this story including the trial and gathering of the Lords and Nikki's answer and recovery. I haven't decided what it will be yet :P
