Author's Note: I thought about this one a lot, but I really wanted a short Mikey fic to complete this prompt. It made the most sense to me. Enjoy!

Mikey pushed open the pane of one of the upstairs windows and looked out onto the horizon. The stars were beginning to dim and the sky had turned from bluish black to a steely grey. In a nearby birch tree, birds were beginning to chirp sleepily, indicating that the day was about to begin.

Sitting on the sill, he swung his feet outside, careful to not make too much noise. Donnie was still asleep in the bed a few feet away, snoring softly from under a feather pillow. He'd been up all night, checking the extent of Leo's injuries, and had only been asleep a few hours, so Mikey didn't want to wake him.

Mikey knew that it was dangerous for him to be out in the light, but he couldn't help himself. He had wanted to watch the sun rise for as long as he could remember. He'd seen pictures on the internet, but he'd never seen the real thing. Though, if they were in the country and there weren't any other humans around, it was probably okay. He'd never have a chance like this back home, so he was going to take it.

The cool morning air stung his skin as he pushed himself out onto the roof. Mikey shivered slightly when his bare toes touched the cold dew that covered the roof. Carefully, he began scaling the mild incline of the roof toward the precipice. His feet slipped on the shingles and for one terrible second, he believed that he would plummet off the roof, then there would be two turtles in comas in this house. Luckily, he regained his footing and slowly climbed to the parapet. He sat carefully on the peak, careful not to allow the weight of his shell to pull him backwards.

This was a perfect view for the big show. The driveway stretched out for a mile before merging with the dirt road, and beyond that was nothing but flat pasture. No pesky trees to obscure his view; only the spot where the earth and the sky met in the distance.

As he stared intently at the horizon, his mind wandered back to the events of the past two days. Everyone was so quiet, so scared. In just a few hours, their lives had gone to hell. Master Splinter was missing, their home had been overrun by the Kraang and his brother was lying unconscious in the bathroom below him. Everything looked so bleak and hopeless, that Mikey wasn't sure how they could come back.

Slowly, the steely grey of the sky became royal blue as the horizon brightened with the approaching light. Mikey caught his breath, anxiously waiting for the main attraction. Any minute now…

Then, the sun shyly peaked out from beneath the horizon, bathing the land in bright yellow and orange light. It pushed the deep blue further into the sky, replacing it with lighter shades of blue and grey. The clouds reflected the light back, glowing with celestial radiance as they hovered lazily over the approaching sun. .

It was the most beautiful thing Mikey had ever seen; even more beautiful than the first pizza that had fallen off that pizza guy's bike. The light had vaporized the darkness, leaving no trace of it behind. He couldn't help but smile broadly as he watched the sun continue to climb farther up into the sky.

Seeing the bright rays of sunshine gave him hope that things would get better. Leo would be okay, they would find Master Splinter, and they could go home, together. They were going to make it.

He closed his eyes and allowed the light to wash over him, warming him to his soul.
