When I awoke, I found that the bed was empty. I quickly changed not wanting to run into John wearing just a sheet. As I headed into the parlor, I found it empty.
"Grace!" I called suddenly getting very worried.
"Sherlock, could you keep it down." John groaned rubbing his eyes as he came down the stairs.
"Have you seen Grace?" I asked hoping he would say she had gone out, or was getting changed or something.
"No, I thought she was still asleep." Not the answer I was hoping for.
My eyes darted around the room landing on a paper that lay on the kitchen table. Rushing to it I quickly picked it up. The words on the page were like individual daggers to my heart.
"Dear Sherlock and John, by the time you read this, I will be long gone. I have gone to Moriarty. When I was on the phone with him, he told me that he would stop hurting people; all I had to do was go to him, to let him win. I can't let anyone get hurt because of me, especially not you two. Please don't be angry with me, it was something I felt I had to do. I love you both and I'm sorry again. Sherlock, there is some money that I left on your drawers. Please use it to buy Mrs. Hudson something nice. Please apologize to her as well. John, please tell mother that I love her and I am sorry for everything I have done. Well, I know that this letter isn't a very good goodbye so I have written each of you a letter individually. I am sorry." I got to the end of the note, looking up I saw two letters father back on the table. I handed john's letter to him along with the other note before I grabbed my letter and hurried to my room. I tore the envelope open and I sat on my bed as I began to read.
"Dear Sherlock, I don't think there are enough words to tell you how sorry I am. I just couldn't risk it any longer, it was just a matter of time before he hurt you and John and I couldn't lose you tow. I love you so much; you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. You made me feel wanted and special; it has been a long time since I have felt like that. You surprised me every day; I don't think you understand how amazing you are. I need you to take care of John. You two need each other more than you know. In addition, I need you to take care of yourself. Don't do anything stupid to prove you are smart. You're brilliant you don't need to prove it to anyone. I need you to promise me one thing, one thing Sherlock, don't come after me. I love you. Love Grace."
My hands shook as I gently lay the letter on the bed. "Don't come after me." The line ran through my head. There was no way in hell I was just going to sit around while Moriarty was doing God know what with Grace.
Quickly I ran from my room back to the parlor. John was standing there, his sad eyes staring at me.
"What are we going to do?" He asked.
"I'm going after her."
"Ok," He said grabbing his coat.
"No, you aren't coming." I demanded grabbing the gun.
"Sherlock, she is my sister, you can't just make me stay here!"
"I know John, but if something goes wrong, I can't lose both of you. I need to make sure you are safe."
"Sherlock…"
"John, you are my best friend, my only friend I cannot lose you too. I will bring her back, I promise. If I'm not back in two hours call Lestrade and come to the house." I said as I left John with a defeated look on his face. As I got outside, I closed my eyes, mapping a route to Moriarty's in my head.
"Please still be there." I hoped as I took off running. My breathing was heavy as I turned onto the street. The house stood its' many balcony, and windows making it look like a maze. My breathing slowed to only a few breaths per minute, but my heart pounded fast within my chest. Suddenly the front door opened and Grace was standing there, her clothes ripped.
"Sherlock run!" She screamed when suddenly I felt something sharp enter my neck. I tried to fight, but my body kept getting weaker until I slipped into unconsciousness.
"Sherlock!" I heard someone yell as I slowly woke up. Opening my eyes I found Grace sitting across from me handcuffed to the chair.
"Grace," I said realizing that I was also handcuffed to a chair.
"What part of don't come after me did you not understand." Grace snapped.
"What in the hell were you thinking leaving like that!" I yelled
"I wasn't going to let you and John ship me off to a different country while you two got yourselves killed!"
"How did you know about that?"
"I heard you talking about it while you were with Molly."
"We were just trying to keep you safe." I said and suddenly I noticed that the left side of Grace's face was bruised.
"And now you're going to get us both killed. Please tell me John isn't' here too."
"No I made him stay home. Did Moriarty hurt you?" I asked.
She turned her face away not looking at me when suddenly the door opened and Moriarty walked in followed by two men, one who went and stood by Grace the other by me.
"Well Sherlock, it's so nice of you to join us." Moriarty said annoyed. "You couldn't let me win could you!" He punched me.
"No!" Graced screamed.
"Shut it!" Moriarty screamed back.
"You didn't win! Grace isn't staying with you. I'm taking her back with me!" I yelled earning me another punch.
"Tell me she's mine!" He screamed
"Never!"
"Fine, boys!" He said and both of the men left and in a moment they came back carrying a giant tub of ice water. "If you won't tell than, Grace is going to take a little dip."
"Wait what?" Grace said when one of the men pushed her chair, holding her head under the icy cold water.
"No!" I screamed as Grace tried to fight back but the man just kept pushing her head farther into the water. "Please stop!"
Moriarty held up his hand and the man grabbed Grace's hair and yanked her up. As her head came out of the water, she gasped.
"Do you have anything to say Sherlock?" Moriarty smiled
"I uh…" I hesitated.
Moriarty looked at the man who again dunked Grace back under.
"No, no, wait!"
"Sherlock," Grace gasped as her head was pulled back out of the water. "Don't."
"I am waiting Sherlock," Moriarty said.
"Grace is yours," I said defeated.
"Good." He chimed grabbing the bucket and moving it so it was in front of me.
"Jim, what are you doing!" Grace yelled.
"Tell me you love me." Moriarty smiled running his fingers through her hair.
"I love you!" She spat
Moriarty turned to me and suddenly I was dunked into the water. The cold water froze my face as I tried to struggle. I was pulled back out of the water gasping for air.
"I don't believe you Grace, make me believe you." Moriarty said.
"I said, I love you!" She screamed as I was dunked back in. The cold water started to get into my lungs and it burned. I started screaming and struggled even more, but still I was held under. I thought I was going to pass out when I was pulled out.
"James Moriarty, I am hopelessly in love with you." I heard.
"Did you hear that Sherlock, Grace is hopelessly in love with me!" Moriarty smiled. "To bad I know she's lying." He turned around slapping Grace across the face.
"Don't you dare touch her!" I screamed.
"I'm going to do more than touch her Sherlock," His words were slimy. "By the end of the day, both of you will be begging me to kill you."
Suddenly Grace screamed and I saw one of the men stick a needle in her neck.
"Grace!" I yelled as she slumped forward.
"Get ready Sherlock, because you have just entered hell, and the devil is ready to play." Moriarty said jabbing me with a needle as well.
"Wakey, wakey Sherlock." I heard a voice say and I opened my eyes to find that we were at the pool where we had first met Moriarty. Moriarty's voice came over the loud speaker again. "This first part of our game is a race against the clock. As you can see we are back to the place where we first met. It brings back such memories. Anyways, like I said, this is a race against time, I better show you your clock." He said and I watched as Grace walked out similar to the way John did so many months ago, a bomb strapped to her chest. My heart stopped as she looked at me with such fear in her eyes. "As you can see there are three locks on the bomb along with a pass code, you will have twenty minutes to find each key and figure out the pass code or else, boom! Have fun."
"Sherlock," Grace gasped.
"Don't worry, I'm going to get us out of this." I kissed her as I started looking around. "If I was Moriarty where would I put the keys." I thought. Looking at the pool I realized he would put it at the bottom. I dove in, the chorine in the water made it difficult for me to see. I felt around until my hand hit something. Grabbing it I swam to the surface. I hopped out running over to Grace. I put the key in each one of the locks hoping it would fit. One the middle lock it popped open. Both Grace and I sighed. "Two more," I said kissing her forehead.
I quickly went into my mind palace thinking about everything I knew about Moriarty, hoping it would give me a clue as to where he hid the others
"I'm Jim Moriarty hi!" I remembered his wicked words as he stood in the shadows behind the pillars.
"That's it!" I yelled running over to the pillar finding the key taped to it. After I grabbed it and unlocked the lock, I quickly started to think again. However, Moriarty's voice broke my concentration.
"Five minutes," He laughed.
"Five," I gasped. "But you said we had twenty minutes, and it has not been fifteen minutes!"
"I changed my mine. Four minutes and fifty seconds, go Sherlock go!" He laughed again and then there was silence.
"Grace, I'll find it, I promise." I said as all thoughts swirled in my head. Suddenly, the word lockers crossed my mine. I turned around to see the wall of lockers. Quickly I started checking each locker up and down. Finally, I found it taped to the inside of a locker; the only problem the locker had a lock on it.
"Damn!" I screamed as I kicked the locker. That gave me an idea are I started to kick the lock until it broke. I shoved away the pieces reaching all the way back of the locker and grabbing the key, they last key. After I unlocked the last lock I stared at the pass code lock. It was four letters. 456,976 possibilities.
"One minute!" Moriarty called.
"I looked up at Grace to see tears in her eyes. "Go, get out of here!" She yelled.
"Grace, no, I'm not…"
"Fifty-five, Fifty-four, Fifty-Three, Fifty-Two…" Moriarty said.
"I'm not leaving you!" I yelled over Moriarty's voice.
"Go! John doesn't deserve to lose both of us!"
"Forty, Thirty-Nine, Thirty-Eight, Thirty-Seven,"
"Grace NO!"
"Please Sherlock please."
I gently kissed her. "I love you." I whispered.
"I love you." She said closing her eyes excepting her fate.
"Twenty, nineteen, eighteen, come on Sherlock Tick, Tick." Suddenly it came to me. Quickly I started to punch in the letters figuring there was nothing to lose. B.O.O.M. When I punched in the last letter I closed my eyes waiting for the blast, but I never came.
"Well done." Moriarty's voice said and it was the greatest thing I had ever heard.
I looked at Grace who unhooked the bomb and gently set it on the ground before she threw herself into my arms laughing. "You did it." She gasped.
"Now we move onto round two," Moriarty said and I looked over Grace's shoulder to see a massive man coming towards us. I threw Grace behind me as the man came closer.
Gracie screamed and I turned around to see another massive man jabbing a needle into Grace's neck. She fell forward and I quickly caught her. Just as I caught her, I felt something sharp go into my neck.
"Grace," I whispered drowsily as I fell backwards. Grace lay unconscious on my chest and I slowly wrapped my arms around her before blacking out.
