Hello, everyone! I know that I have been gone for like the longest longest time, but hey hey hey I am back and ready as ever to try and update more! Please enjoy this little chapter and do not forget to leave me a review!
Huzzah!
Oh and I do not own Jimmy Neutron xD
There was nothing that Cindy could do right that morning.
She got three orders wrong, spilled coffee onto a business man's coat, and dropped a platter of pastries onto the floor. The other waitresses looked at her in confusion; Cindy was the hardest worker in the whole café, so why was she screwing up? It got so bad for her that Dee had to call her into the back.
"What the heck is the matter, Cindy?" Dee asked putting his hands on his hips.
Cindy sighed and rubbed the bags under her eyes from the sleepless night before. "I don't know, I guess I just have a lot on my mind."
Dee softened and placed his hand on her shoulders for comfort, "This would not have anything to do with the drive home from last night, would it?"
Cindy looked to the floor and replied, "I would honestly rather we not talk about it, Dee."
The man looked at her for a bit before finally sighing, "Alright, but take it easy out there. Heather will take half your tables. I don't need people thinking that you're a dumb blonde or something," he replied with a wink.
Giving a grateful look, Cindy went back to the front of the store determined not to make herself look like an idiot.
Ever since the late night before, Cindy was not able to keep her emotions in check. Sure she was happy that she was able to reconnect with Jimmy, but did she want to be that reconnected?
Picking up dirty dishes from an empty table, she felt lost and conflicted with herself. After all, he was her professor and she couldn't see how she could date him, especially when she was taking one of his classes! She would just have to go on and act like whatever they did that night did not happen.
Still.
Cindy could not help remember a long time ago when the two had walked down an alley at night after getting fired from their news show. Both were following their friends and heading home when all of a sudden Neutron grabbed her hand hastily. Smiling at the memory, Cindy recalled how he pulled her in when he thought no one was looking and innocently placed his lips on hers. They both walked home hand-in-hand after that. As magical and sweet as that event was for her, the next day the big-headed genius acted like nothing had happened the night before. Cindy took it as a hint that it was sort of a heat-of-the-moment action and backed off. She was young and foolish back then and was not really upset that they both decided to disregard it. Sure she was mad, but just like their other small moments in the past, it was over looked. Things are much different now.
Nevertheless, Cindy was determined to make sure that things would not go wrong for both of them.
At around 2:30, Zoe dropped in to check on her roommate after just coming back from a study group. "What's flying Cind? Are we feeling better today?" she asked hesitantly as she leaned on the table Cindy was cleaning.
Cindy gave her a look and continued to set plates and silverware on the table.
Eventually, she had to tell Zoe what had happened the night before when they got up in the morning. Even though her roommate was sympathetic and a good listener, she was not really agreeing with her choice of actions.
"I just don't get it!" the red head cried in aspiration, "You have to talk to him! You can't ignore this forever!"
"And why is that?" Cindy challenged back.
"Because," Zoe said placing her elbows on the table and putting her head in her hands, "you two would be cute together and it would be an easy A in the class."
"Zoe!"
"Kidding! But really, are you sure you want to do this?"
Cindy sighed, she really did not want to have this conversation right now. "Yeah, I am sure."
Zoe smirked, "Well that sucks because here is our dear professor coming in right now looking for our blonde haired heroine as we so speak."
Freaking out, Cindy looked to the door to see Jimmy come through the glass doors with bags under his eyes to match her own. His lazy hair style looked more lazy than usual and his dress shirt was wrinkled.
He did not look good.
Turning to Zoe, Cindy frantically whispered, "Shit, shit, shit! What should I do? What should I do?"
Laughing a bit, she replied, "Hmm how's the "ignoring it" plan working out for you? Jesus, just talk to the man!" With that, Zoe practically skipped to the back of the store to go talk to Dee.
Smoothing her uniform down and trying to look nonchalant, Cindy looked down on the dirty dishes hoping that she would look invisible to the eye.
It didn't work.
"Cindy…?" she heard a rough, husky voice behind her as she was scrubbing down the table.
She stopped herself mid-scrubbing and swiftly turned around with new found bitterness.
"Hello, Professor Neutron. To what pleasure do I have of seeing you outside of class?"
Jimmy clenched his jaw and replied sharply, "Cut the crap, Vortex. Sarcasm does not suit you well. I am here to recall the night we had before, or more precisely, this morning."
Crossing her arms, she scowled with her green piercing eyes at Jimmy and said, "Ohhhh! How could I forget! I think it must have slipped my mind when I accidently almost made out with my teacher! C'mon Neutron! It is not like it really meant anything! It was all in the heat of the moment."
Shoot.
Why did she have to say that to him?
Cindy could have been wrong, but she saw a gleam of disappointment in the young man's eye as he avoided her eyes and looked down to the floor. She wrapped herself in her arms and if to comfort her from the awkwardness that she had just created for the two young adults.
After what seemed like a century, Neutron coughed and said, "I didn't think if it as a student or a teacher, I thought there was more to us than just a given label. C'mon Vortex, are you really that dense?"
"It is-Wait what?!"
Cindy looked up to see the young professor smirking at her and running a hand through his flopped over hair.
"Excuse me, Neutron! I am not dense! I am sorry that I did not become a poet-loving sap like you did!"
"Oooh..ouch! Got me there Vortex! I am just a graduate double major in the STEM fields and have already acquired a steady job at the age of nineteen and yet here you are just starting your second year! My mistake, you obviously got the better end of the deal," the handsome devil laughed out loud to her before continuing on, "However, I do think that you have a point to this situation at hand and I am willing to move on if your feminine hormones and mind will allow you too."
"Excuse me?! How dare you talk to me like that in public, you big-headed freak!"
"My, your temper is even easier to break now than it was in middle school! You sure are a feisty one! Oh and we are still resorting back to our elementary school insults?"
Cindy's face turned red with fury as she raised her eyebrows and gritted her teeth, but the genius was far from being done.
"Even though you are impossible, I do assume that you are correct, however, we being together would not be the wisest thing in the world given our current situation. However," Jimmy stepped in closer to her, closing the gap a bit, "what if I don't want to stop trying?"
"What do you think they are talking about?" Zoe mused as she and Dee were hiding behind the cash register in a not-so-secretive way and watching their friends who were arguing across the store.
Dee gave a low whistle and a toothy grin and replied, "Well, it is obvious that they are fighting, I mean look at Cindy, she is as red as a beet!"
After a few minutes of Jimmy rambling to her, both were shocked to see Jimmy take a few steps closer to the blonde heroine and whisper in her ear.
Zoe smirked in approval and Dee laughed in delight as he shook Zoe's arm in excitement.
"Well, at least now Cindy's red for a different reason."
"I'm sorry, Jimmy. You know we cannot do this. There is just nothing that feels right about this"
Cindy really hoped that her voice sounded convincing because she knew that she was not telling the truth. She just really could not deal with having romantic attachments in this situation; no matter how much she felt towards him.
"But-"
"No."
James looked at her with his blood shot eyes and two o'clock shadow that was present on his face in bitter regret. "Very well," he said cautiously, "Can we at least be friends?"
Friends…
Cindy, still angry with his earlier comments, replied, "If I don't kill you first."
Jimmy smiled for the first time that day and said, "Well we did last until middle school."
Soooo what did you guys think? xD
Please leave a review on what you thought!
