John

I paced worriedly in front of the window holding Grace's letter in my hands. I was waiting and hoping that Sherlock would show up with Grace, his arms around her, laughing as if this was just another one of his jokes. However, as it came up on the two-hour mark, I knew that wasn't the case. Opening the letter, I read it again for the tenth time.

"Dear John, my dearest big brother." I started. "I'm so sorry that I left like I did but for me this was my war, I had to go off and fight it. I wanted to thank you for everything. For being the greatest big brother in the world. I am sorry I was such a pain in the ass all the time. Please take care of yourself and please, please, take care of Sherlock. Knowing him, he is going to try to bring me back, but I don't want to come back, not if it's going to put the people I love in danger. I need you to convince him to let me go. John I love you, please forgive me for disappointing you." Love Grace.

I folded the letter back up looking at the clock I saw the two hours had passed since Sherlock left. There was still no Sherlock and still no Grace." So, I quickly pulled out my phone and called Lestrade.

"Hi John," He answered.

"Greg, we have a problem." I said and then I filled him in on everything.

"You know I could have all of you arrested for obstruction of justice." He sighed.

"Yeah, yeah, just hurry up and come and get me."

"John, this is official police business, you can't…"

"No Greg! I'm coming! This is my best friend and my sister we are talking about, I'm not just going to sit around and wait, I'm done waiting!" I yelled.

"Alright John, just calm down, we'll be there in a minute."

"Thank you," I said and I hung up the phone.

When Lestrade arrived, I tried my best to act calm but on the inside, I wanted to scream. No one talked to me, they all just kept giving me these worried looks as we drove to the house. I prayed that we weren't too late.

Lestrade finally broke the silence as we reached the house. "John, we don't know what we are going to find in here, are you sure you are ready?" He asked.

"Yes," I lied to be completely honest I wasn't prepared. In my head, I had imagined the worst, but I wasn't exactly ready to see it. However, when we walked into the house we found nothing.

"Clear," I heard someone call and as others kept saying it, the fear just built up.

"They have to be here!" I yelled defeated.

"I have something!" I heard someone yell giving me a glimmer of hope. Turning around I found Sally coming towards us carrying a paper. "It's for John," She said and I quickly grabbed it from her hands.

"Well hello Johnny boy, it seems as if you are a bit too late," It started. "Oh, don't worry Grace and Sherlock are fine, we are playing a game and it seems as if it is your turn. Your game is a game of wits. I will give you clues as to where I am and holding Grace and Sherlock and maybe if you're fast enough you might be able to save them. Freewheel Homes Twit Port. Good luck."

"John?" Lestrade asked.

"Shit!"' I screamed. "He wants me to think like Sherlock how am I supposed to do that."

"John, just calm down, we are going to find them." Lestrade said.

"How do we find Sherlock when the only person who could find him is Sherlock!" I yelled sitting down as I held my stomach. "They are going to get killed and it is going to be my fault."

"John, its fine everything is going to be fin…"

"No!" I ran outside needing some air. I looked at the note again. "Think like Sherlock, think like Sherlock," I thought looking at the letters. They still just looked like just a bunch of random letters and random words, nothing more.

"John," I heard someone say as a hand lay on my shoulder. "We are going back to the station do you want us to drop you off at the flat?" Lestrade asked.

"No, can I just stay at the station. I can't go back to the flat and wait."

"Alright," He said as we all got into the cars.

When we got to the station, Lestrade stuck me in a chair and I sat scribbling on a piece of paper trying to figure out the words Moriarty had left. I started to rearrange the letters. Most of my rearranging just made more nonsense words but as it started to get around noon everything clicked. Suddenly I rearranged some of the letters to make the word pool.

"Lestrade!" I yelled.

"John, what wrong?" Lestrade asked rushing into the room.

"I know where they are." I said feeling very proud of myself that I figured it out. Quickly I explained to Lestrade where we needed to go.

"What is so special about this place?" Lestrade asked on our way there.

"It's the first place we met Moriarty." I said my hope rising higher and higher as we got closer. "Tell me what is the chance that they are actually going to be here?"

"To be completely honest John, the odds are very low. Moriarty is playing a game and who knows how long he is going to drag this out."

"That's why we need to find them quickly, who knows what Moriarty is doing to them," I said as I turned to look out the window.

When we got o the pool everyone rushing in, but again we found nothing, except another note from Moriarty.

"I'm disappointed in you John. I waited I really did. I thought you were smart enough to figure that easy problem out, but I was wrong." And that was all it said.

Defeated I went back to the car. I waited until Lestrade came back telling me exactly what I had expected to hear. They had found nothing. There were no clues as to where Moriarty had taken them. I asked them to take me home, knowing that we were getting nowhere.

"I'll call you if we find anything." Lestrade said as he dropped me off. I opened the door and was welcomed by an unnatural silence. There were no gunshots or yelling as to which I had grown accustom to. There wasn't even the sound of someone's telly on, it was just silent.

Suddenly my phone rang, I looked at it hoping it was Moriarty but, it was my mother.

"What do you want!" I snapped in annoyance.

"What is this I see about Grace and that flat mate of yours. And how come you haven't called. And don't you dare use that tone of voice with me. Do you have a girlfriend yet because I want some grandchildren and…" She went on and on about everything. Trying my best to tune her out I slowly walked up the stairs.

When I got into the parlor, I about dropped the phone. Each wall was covered from floor to ceiling in sticky notes.

"Four p.m." It read on ever-single note.

"John, are you listening to me." My mother whined.

"Mother, I have to go." I said.

"John Ham…" I quickly hung up the phone.

Grabbing a handful of the notes looking at them hoping that there was more writing on them giving me some sort of clue. But all they said was, "Four p.m." I looked at the clock, it was Two o'clock. Sitting down I held my phone in my hands as I stared at the clock. My heartbeat was in sync with the clock and it was beating just as loud.

The minutes slowly ticked on Mother kept trying to call but I kept ignoring her. Lestrade also tried but I knew I needed to make sure that the line was open.

When it finally was four, it felt as if everything stood still. I looked around waiting for something to happen, but nothing did. Just before it changed to 4:01 I got another call, but this time it was from Moriarty.

"Where are they?" I yelled.

"Hello Johnny boy." I heard someone say and I immediately recognized it as Sherlock.

"Sherlock, where are you? What is going on?" I asked.

"We are fine John, Moriarty says that he will let me go by the end of the day, but Grace is staying with him." He said.

"What!"

"Grace is fine, she wants to stay here." He coughed and suddenly I could hear Grace screaming in the background.

"What is going on?" I asked panicking.

" I coughed!" I heard Sherlock yell over the screaming.

"I told you to read exactly what I wrote!" I heard another voice in the distance and I could tell it was Moriarty.

"Ok, I'll read it word for word, just please stop, please."Sherlock begged and the screaming stopped.

"Sherlock, just tell me where you are. I'll come get you."

"I'm very disappointed in you John." Sherlock said and even though I knew he was forced to say those things, it still stung. "I am going to give you one more clue, and if you don't figure this one out. I might just kill them."

Suddenly Grace started screaming again.

"Don't Jim, please!" She screamed and then there was a loud crash and then nothing. There was silence for a while before suddenly there was small whisper of a sound. It sounded like laughing. It went on for a while getting louder and louder until it was so loud that I had to hold the phone away from my ear. Then it just stopped and the phone went silent again this time hanging up.

My hands shook as I dropped the phone. Holding my head in my hands, I tried to think of what I was going to do. The fear consumed me as every horrible thought ran through my mind.

"No stop it!" I told myself. "This is what Moriarty wants; he wants to scare you so much that you will fail. But you can't fail!"

Almost as soon as I thought it, my phone lit up with a message from Moriarty. Quickly I grabbed it opening the message and I saw that it was one word; Whittingham."

"Whittingham," I read it out load as I tried to think. It sounded familiar like a place or something. I whipped out my laptop and typed in my password. I pulled up the search results for Whittingham. The first couple results were of no use, but there was a Wikipedia result of a Whittingham. It was a civil parish in Lancashire England.

As I scrolled through the pages, I found nothing. Going back, I scrolled all the way to the bottom to find that one of the related pages was Whittingham Asylum.

Quickly I clicked on it and saw each of the pictures. In horror, I realized this is exactly where Moriarty would take them. I jotted down the address before I grabbed my gun and headed out.
