Sorry about the late update again. This chapter was really hard to write for some reason. I had the ideas but I didn't know how to put it together. Hopefully you'll like it.
He sat at his desk for hours, unmoving as the sun slowly descends to welcome the darkness of night time. He was contemplating about what to do with Rin. To him, she clearly didn't love him anymore since she was unaffected by his confession.
Does Rin not love this Sesshomaru anymore?
Why does that thought cause his being to ache. It was like a stab to his heart. He's the powerful lord of the West, the immortal inu-daiyoukai with the power to bring life from the dead, doing the impossible.
The door to his study suddenly open with Inuyasha and his gang except for the kids and Senri marching in.
"So how did it go?" Inuyasha demanded. They wanted to know if he had broken the spell after Senri told them of their solution.
Sesshomaru remained silent, not wanting to admit that it had failed. It'll be the same as telling them that Rin doesn't love him. Something he didn't want to face and admit.
"It didn't work." He finally said, his eyes dimmer than they usually were.
The others gasped, shocked to hear his answer. They knew that Rin had always loved Sesshomaru as a child and as a grown woman, her adoration had blossom to true love.
"What do you mean it didn't work? Are you saying that she's still the same?" Kagome asked desperately, her hope for having their sweet Rin back destroyed.
"What did you do to her?" Inuyasha asked.
"I told her the words I thought she wanted." Sesshomaru stated plainly, this conversation riling him up more and more by the moment.
"Which are.." Of course Inuyasha would ask this. He was so dense sometimes.
"It's "I love you'" Kagome huffed, can't believing her mate was so ignorant.
Sesshomaru stayed silent. The thought of admitting that he, the great Sesshomaru, had confess to a woman was unheard of.
"Oh my god you did!?" Inuyasha yelled, his eyes bugging out. "You actually told her you loved her?"
"Since she is still the same, this means that his words were ineffective." Sango concluded.
"Inferring that his love was not what she wanted from him." Miroku added.
"She rejected you!" Inuyasha screamed, pointing a finger at his brother for emphasis.
Sesshomaru gave him a deadly glare to silence him.
"That's it. She rejected you. That's why you're more pissed off than usual." He laughed.
Sesshomaru refuses to let his words get the better of him.
"Inuyasha will you stop it!" Kagome yelled, giving him the 'I will sit you" look. He immediately stopped laughing at the thought of being sit in front of his brother. "What I don't understand is why it didn't work. Rin clearly loves you and you the same."
"I do not love her." He growled.
"Sure you don't" Inuyasha scoffed, rolling his eyes.
"Sesshomaru, you have't realized it have you?" Kagome said in slight disbelief. Sesshomaru's gaze was on her, demanding her to continue.
"You love Rin." Her words were heavy on his mind and heart.
I love Rin?
"Ridiculous." He stated. How can he possibly love Rin. He'll admit that he cares for her, more than anyone else to be exact, but love? The thought of having Rin as his mate didn't disgust him as it normally would with other demoness that his mom have previously introduce him to. Also now that Rin is a demoness herself, he doesn't have to worry about her humanity and the though of losing her a few decades from now. She will be with him forever, just like she, and him secretly, wished for years ago.
"Your kidding right? You've hated humans for centuries yet one day you allow a human girl to follow you. Not only that, you protect her as if your life depends on it and you gave her the choice to return to your side years later while sending her expensive gifts in the mean time." Inuyasha fused, his royal ego and pride angering him by the second.
As much as he hated to admit it, Inuyasha's words were correct. Why was Rin so special? Did he unconsciously fall in love with her without releasing it?
They stood silent, waiting for Sesshomaru to deny his obvious love for Rin.
"Leave me." He said in a low, tired voice. They did as he told, knowing that the realization was sinking into him.
Walking out of the room, the gang were happy that they were able to make Sesshomaru realize his feelings for Rin, even if he didn't clearly say it himself. Now all they can do is wait for him to return Rin to the way she was.
XXXX
At dinner time everyone was at the table, everyone except Rin. She was late, again. Even Senri left the confines of Airi's room to join them for the very first time since her death.
Rin knew it ticks Sesshomaru off when people kept him wanting for unnecessary reasons. He was already edgy form his recent epiphany so any irritations or disturbances heightened his fury more than usual.
Sesshomaru was scowling, waiting for Rin to join them for their private dinner. It just a simple dinner with his family and their campions, even Jaken was included. The only outsiders were the servants waiting on them along the wall.
The door to the dinner hall suddenly open, revealing a stoic Rin followed by a restless Nina as she made her way to the side with the other servants. Rin gracefully walked to the center of the room, seating herself next to Sesshomaru, her usual spot.
Her eyes trailed along the room, sensing the tension in the room and fury from her lord. She ignored it, she ignored them all. She was tired of everyone, everything. Nothing mattered to her anymore. She was beyond broken and empty on the inside. Sesshomaru's heartless confession was like a mockery to her. He was basically showing her that she was nothing to him since he could easily spill lies in front of her face without a second thought.
"Rin." Sesshomaru's baritone voice came out, breaking the silence in the room. He was looking at her but she refused to acknowledge him.
"You brat! Lord Sesshomaru is calling your name!" Jaken screeched across the table. Rin remained silent, not looking up from the table. The others were finding Jaken's yells to be very annoying and irritating to their ears. "Ri-"
Thats it! Standing up abruptly, she slammed her palms on the table, the silverware and plates clanging from the vibration.
"Would you leave me alone!" Rin screamed, her voice resounding throughout the spacious room. She finally came down for dinner only to have people berate her again.
The others stared at her, speechless from her outcry. They didn't expect her to erupt like that from Jaken's usual annoyance.
"I'm sick of everyone ordering me around like I'm beneath you!" She looked around, glaring at each and everyone one of them, then she landed her blood red eyes on Sesshomaru. "Don't think that I don't know what you're planning. I know that you've been trying to get the old Rin back!" She spat, her blood boiling from keeping it in since she found out. Can't they just leave her alone and let it be?
The others eyed one another, not knowing how to respond. They didn't expect her to find out so soon.
"Just to let you know, she will never come back!" Never! Not when you're all like this.
"Quiet yourself Rin." Sesshomaru growled, her screaming was hurting his sensitive ears. He didn't want to hear from anyone telling him that his Rin wasn't coming back.
"Don't order me around like I'm some child! If you haven't noticed, I'm not that little girl who blindly followed you around all the time." She growled in retaliation. "I'm stronger now, stronger than I've ever been before and it was all without your help! I DON'T NEED YOU ANYMORE!" She shouted to his face.
There were coinciding gasps from everyone in the room, followed by a deafening silence. They were wide eyed, gapping in disbelief as the young demoness disrespect the powerful demon lord in such a way. Her proclamation was asking for a death wish.
Sesshomaru's eyes were stained red with teal pupils the moments Rin released her audacious declaration. He slowly rose from his seat, towering over Rin's tiny form.
His glare was deadly, piercing into Rin's defiant eyes.
"How dare you speak to this Sesshomaru in such a way. SUBMIT!" He barked, his cold and menacing voice sending shivers down every spine in the room. He needed to regain control before his beast escapes, who knows what it'll do to make the woman submit to him. It could range from killing her in an instant to taking her away somewhere to mount her from behind like in his dreams.
"Submit? You've got to be kidding." She snorted, a dark chuckle escaping her mouth. She continued her response, making sure to sneer in the process. "The last time I remembered, I was free to do as I wish Sesshomaru-sa"
SMACK!
Sesshomaru had sent a hand to her cheek, cutting Rin mid sentence. The slap was unexpected, to everyone, especially to Rin. Her face was forced sideways upon impact with his palm. Though it didn't hurt, the slap was more of a loud pat made to sound more painful and forceful than what it really was.
Rin slowly lifted her trembling hand to cup her face, turning to stare Sesshomaru in shock.
"You've never struck me before." Her voice came out in a hoarse whisper. "Do you want me gone that much?" She asked, trying her best not to choke on her words.
Sesshomaru stayed silent, his face emotionless as always. Long seconds went by as Rin waited for a response. Having enough of his uncaring attitude, she expelled the silence in a loud screech.
"I HATE YOU!" She stormed out of the room in a flash, a soft wind swooshing in her path.
The room was still silent. No one dared moved or speak, afraid that drawing any attention to themselves will get them slaughter by the demon lord.
XXXX
How dare she spoke to him that way, play with his emotions, abusing his kindness and humiliate him in front of his subjects and worse of all Inuyasha. He was her lord, her savior, her… love. Why did she said she didn't need him, hated him? Has she truly feel that way?
Sesshomaru was laying on his bed, staring at the hand that struck Rin's delicate face, his mind in anguish from Rin's sudden announcement of her hatred for him. He had always believe that nothing can hurt him except for physical wounds, but Rin's words were like a knife stabbing his heart. It hurt more than when she stab him in the chest. At least that time, she didn't have control of her body, however, this time, she did.
His body felt like lead, his heart heavy from his misery. He found himself to be pathetic, letting a woman worm her way into his heart, eliciting the emotions he locked away centuries ago. This was why he killed his emotions, they were bothersome and made him weak. He should just get rid of Rin so that these emotions would go away…but he wouldn't.
He loves her.
Kami! What has he done? He rejected her love for him, failed to protect her, and even slapped her because of his stupid pride.
Wallowing in his misery, he tuned his senses to where Rin should be, focusing on the sounds coming from her chambers to detect what she was doing, what she was feeling.
The room was quiet, small noises of rustles and then the creak of a window opening, and then a JUMP?
He gasped, realizing what was happening. Jerking out of his bed, he headed to the direction of Rin's scent.
She was running away!
He easily caught up to her as she landed to the ground below her window.
"Rin." His voice came. He strode slowly to the shocked demoness, inwardly smirking that he had caught her.
"Sesshomaru-sama." She said, her voice cold as she averted her eyes from him. She knew that her plans were foiled.
"Where are you heading at such a late hour?" His voice demanded.
"Isn't it obvious?" She said sarcastically.
"Rin, do not think you can leave as you please. You are still my ward and under my protection. You will not leave the castle without my permission" He growled.
"Well I don't want to be your ward anymore. I can survive on my own!" Her words echoed in the darkness, the only light coming from the crescent moon hanging above the cloudless starry sky.
"No!" He roared, his fear of her leaving clouding his judgement.
The sound of racing heartbeats could be heard in the silence. Before Rin knew what was happening, Sesshomaru had scooped her into his arms, sending them to the privacy of his personal garden.
He roughly placed her on a sturdy branch of the overgrown sakura tree Airi made. Her back was pressed against the trunk, her hands secured to her sides by Sesshomaru's deadly ones. He leaned over her startled form, caging her beneath him. They were surrounded in a nest of thousands of sakura blossoms, sparkling in the moonlight.
"You will not leave." He growled, his grip on her wrists tightening.
"Let me go. You're hurting me." Rin screamed, thrashing about to get him to release his hold on her. She would use her ability on him but ever since she woke up, she hasn't been able to draw up her powers.
"I will not allow you to leave. You will stay here." He was trying this best not to let his voice shake.
"Why?" She yelled. "Why won't you let me go. You've been trying to get rid of me ever since I woke up." He loosened his hold on her wrist. Taking this chance, she was pounding on his chest weakly. Tears were threatening to pour out of her eyes from all the frustrations. She was so confused as why he wanted her to stay when he wanted the old human Rin back, not her, the demoness.
"You don't care about me" *hic* "You don't.. love me." She seized her batters, clutching his haori, leaning her head into his chest. "Why would you want someone who hurt you to stay with you?" Their minds flash to when she stabbed his chest.
"Someone… so tainted." She whispered, a sob escaping her trembling lips.
He stiffened, stunned to hear her beliefs. Wrapping his left hand around her waist, pulling her closer to him, he gently gripped her chin with his right hand, lifting her head up so that they were gazing into each others eyes. Their faces were inches aways, time felt like it had stopped for this very moment.
"You are not tainted." His voice came out strong, proving that he only spoke the truth. "It was not your fault that you have injured this Sesshomaru."
"Then what about trying to get rid of me?" She whispered, giant teardrops forming at the corners of her eyes, pleading with her eyes to tell her the truth. "You won't except the fact that I am a demon now." She trailed.
"I have done no such thing… I only want the Rin that loves this Sesshomaru to return to him." His voice came out soft, certain about what he wanted from the start. He didn't cared that she was a demon or human, he only wanted his Rin back. The Rin that smiled innocently at him, the Rin that confessed her love to him under this exact tree.
"Do not leave this Sesshomaru. He needs his Rin, want his Rin to stay with him forever." Bringing his hand farther up, he gently caresses her cheek.
"Be it a demoness or human… this Sesshomaru loves his Rin." His voice as gentle as silk, his eyes shimmering with love.
Her eyes widened in utter shock. Her tears finally spilled from her eyes, cascading down her flushed cheeks. She whimpered, can't believing what she just heard. He accepted her as who she was, forgiven her for what she has done, and he truly loves her.
Sesshomaru gasped, witnessing her eyes slowly fade from crimson red to her natural cinnamon brown.
"Sesshomaru…-sama." She cried, her face contorted in sadness before she fainted in his arms.
