Chapter 55 All Your Old Haunts
Character Weiss
"Do you think I was too hard on Jackson and Aslir," Ruby asked as they made their way off of the Pestilence and back to their various homes. Blake and Sun had already headed for their house as had Yang and family. Ruby and Scooter were heading to Weiss' place for the night however since Lao had said that there was a leak in the flat and he and Summer were going to be at Yang's.
"I think they got the beating they deserved for hurting Storm like that," Weiss said sharply, "She wouldn't let them know but that injury was serious, it would be like stabbing you through the wrist."
"So I should have hit them with that stun round then," Ruby asked.
"It probably wouldn't have hurt," Weiss replied, "Still Storm did say no rules and since she can see through time I suspect she knew that they would win and she would get hurt."
"Don't worry about it now," Jayne said, "What we need to worry about is how are we supposed to do this wedding thing if DC is going to be heading out again in a day?"
"Yeah with the level of activity that surrounds DC none of our plans would work," Ruby said, "I'm surprised Blake's plan worked as well as it did now that I am seeing how hard this planning is."
"And you all know a bunch of people who could do the wedding too," Scooter added, "Imagine how hard it would be for someone that's not any of you."
"Yeah but most of them will be leaving with DC," Ruby said.
"Ozpin will stay here," Weiss said, "As are my parents and yours, though only my Father has the legal authority to wed anyone out of those last four. Ironwood is already an hour away and getting farther away as we speak. Burnie could as well but he is still a busy man even with Cinder's organization working in a much more... structured fashion."
"It's better than having another faction take her place," Ruby said.
"I know but still," Weiss said.
"Hey what's wrong with Cinder continuing with her plans," Scooter asked.
"Uh because they involve theft, assassination, smuggling, forgery," Weiss replied angrily.
"Maybe she did but have you seen the headlines in the city lately," Jayne asked.
Weiss and Ruby looked between each other before answering, "No."
"Well as a merc who is always looking for pay I keep up with those," Jayne said, "Vale has had the least amount of coverage on events like the ones you just mentioned that I have encountered. That is since Cinder has joined up with us."
"Now that you mention it we have had a lot less domestic alerts coming through the network," Ruby said.
"Just because we don't hear about it doesn't mean that it isn't happening," Weiss said.
"True but we did hear a lot more about tragic events when Cinder was against us," Ruby said, "Look I know it is hard to let Cinder go for what she did, especially for you, but consider what she took from me, from Ozpin, Blake, Yang, all of us."
"I know," Weiss said, "And I know Price is right, to turn an enemy into a friend is the most powerful thing one can do... it still doesn't make it easy." Weiss opened the door to her place and waved the three in. She caught sight of the stack of paper work that Jayne was working his way through to become a member of the Schnee family, to Weiss' surprise he was through a good portion of it already. Weiss smiled as she thought back to James' declaration that she and Jayne were a perfect match for each other. Her thoughts were interrupted by the buzzing of her scroll. Weiss answered the call which was from Ozpin. "Hello Professor Ozpin," Weiss said.
"Please Weiss it's just Oz now," Ozpin remarked, "But I do appreciate the respect."
"Hello Professor Ozpin," Ruby shouted so that he could hear her and hurting Weiss' ears in the process.
"Ah Ruby please I'm trying to talk," Weiss yelled back.
Ozpin laughed before saying, "Somethings never seem to change do they? You can tell Ruby I said hi and pass my greeting to the rest of your team as well if they are present."
"I will," Weiss said, "But I doubt this is a social call people like us don't get that luxury."
"You are right," Ozpin said with a sigh, "I called to ask if you would be going with DC when they leave."
"Of course I am going," Weiss said, "I am not leaving RWBY or Jayne. This is about Schnee corporation isn't it?"
"Indeed it is," Ozpin said, "Abrams fears that some ill might befall you while you are out saving the universe, in which case the company would fall to Winter to run once he and Ivy..."
"I know," Weiss said firmly, "I am not leaving RWBY or Jayne. If Father is worried about the company then have it become a partner company with the Atlasean military we already do a lot of work with them, or better yet with Beacon. Even better than that let my Father actually talk to me about this himself."
"He is on his way to your place to do just that," Ozpin said, "For the record I think you are more than capable of balancing the company, your team and Jayne. I wish you a good night Weiss."
"Same to you Professor Ozpin," Weiss said as she ended the call, "Ruby, Scooter, Jayne, Father is on his way over so behave yourselves for a bit!"
"Oh," Ruby remarked as she stopped her slide down the banister on the stairs that would have landed her in Scooter's arms.
"Abrams is on his way here," Jayne remarked, "Hey I think I need his signature on some of those papers."
"You've actually read those," Scooter asked.
"Look I care about three things," Jayne said, "Love, money, and weapons, I found all of those in abundance with that girl right there." Jayne was pointing at Weiss as he finished his sentence.
"And yet the greatest of these is love," Ruby said.
"Well it is now," Jayne said as a knock from the porch beckoned their attention. Weiss opened the door to let in Abrams and Ivy.
"Father, Mother what brings you here this time of night I though you would be going back home with Ironwood," Weiss said as she hugged her parents.
"We were going to but with you and Jayne planning to get married soon and with you going off with DC so much we decided to stay around," Ivy said, "Besides Winter is doing just fine without us for now."
"I also wished to talk to the four of you about a few things," Abrams said, "Ruby, Scooter I'm glad you are here it will make these talks that much more effective."
"What did you want to talk about Mr. Schnee," Ruby asked.
"We've been putting it off for almost five years now," Abrams said, "But with the way our time is being eaten away at with Weiss gone all the time now we haven't had a chance to make her the acting head of Schnee Corporation."
"It's the best course of action as far as we can see," Ivy added, "Whenever you are out we can still maintain the operations and when you are home we can start introducing those in our alliances to you and your unique method of leading. Mostly to how you lead though, you've grown up around most of our business partners and a lot of them have children that you've grown up with who will be taking over their enterprises."
"Hey Abrams," Jayne called, "Can I get you to sign these?" Jayne came in with a stack of papers in his hands.
"In a minute Jayne," Abrams said, "First we have to officiate Weiss' command of the company. That will start with a question for you, Ruby."
"Okay sure," Ruby said.
"Your team, RWBY, decided to stay together which means that Weiss is still obligated to follow your leadership," Abrams said as he opened a briefcase he brought with him, "You will need to sign these forms saying that you will not use this position to pressure Weiss into using Schnee Corporation resources for your own use."
"Huh yeah that makes sense," Ruby said as she took the paper.
"Scooter since you are going to be Ruby's husband you have to sign a similar statement," Abrams said as he passed another document to Scooter.
"Right, right so I don't use Ruby to get to Weiss," Scooter said.
"That is more perceptive than I would have expected from you," Ivy remarked.
"Growing up on Pandora you have to be," Scooter said, "otherwise I would have lost my digi-struct business a long time ago."
"Weiss," Abrams said, "Your situation is unique, being immortal means that the company can always fall back to you if the rest of the family can not fulfill the responsibilities that are required. That is why you are going to be the acting leader of the company when you are on Remnant... with that said we have a very unique and hopefully appropriate document for you to sign."
Weiss took the proffered document and began to read it. Most of it was the legal jargon that she had gotten so accustom to over the years but a few lines stood out to her. As Heiress immortal to the Schnee Corporation, I, Weiss Schnee, will maintain that the family of Schnee owns and operates the company in my absence, for however long that may be such that I, Weiss Schnee, may maintain the integrity of the Schnee name by not abandoning my responsibilities to first team RWBY and secondly Dragon Company. Weiss looked from the paper in her hands to her Father and Mother before quickly signing it then hugging them both.
"Thank you," Weiss cried.
"Weiss what is it," Ruby asked.
"The way we figured it Weiss would choose you and her team before the company," Ivy said, so we made a position for her that allows her to remain as the head of the company and be an active member of team RWBY and DC."
"So... she is still rich then," Jayne asked.
"Oh shut it you," Weiss said teasingly as she poked him in the ribs.
"You constructed the arrangement in such a way that she didn't have to choose between her responsibilities," Scooter asked.
"That they did," Weiss said.
"Wow really," Ruby asked in astonishment, "I had really thought this would be the end of team RWBY."
"I wouldn't let that happen," Weiss said, "Your two were right I would give the company to Winter if that was what it took to remain with Ruby... and I guess Blake and Yang are okay too."
"You would do that for me," Ruby asked amazed.
"Ruby, you were the first real friend I ever had," Weiss said, "You and our team mean more to me than anyone else, except Jayne and quite honestly I think you are tied."
"I'll settle for tied," Jayne said, "tied means I still get you at night right?"
"Okay I'll give you that," Weiss said, "and only because Ruby is not a man."
"Ha he is just like you," Abrams said to Ivy.
"It would seem that our rolls have been reversed," Ivy admitted, "Weiss certainly takes after you."
"How is it that we ended up with two guys who are so... direct," Weiss asked Ruby.
"Well we are pretty direct too," Ruby said, "only because I'm not man, really?"
"Hmm fair enough," Weiss said, "I guess I'm just lucky that my parents are so understanding, and Father is right, Mother is a lot like Jayne."
"So she is just as... open as Jayne," Ruby asked.
"Why do you think I have a sister," Weiss said, "Father only wanted me but life happened. He has done very well by Winter though so I won't say it wasn't good for him."
"Hey Ruby," Scooter called from the kitchen, "I've found some cookies, want to share them?"
"Hey those are mine you give those back," Jayne yelled as he started heading towards the kitchen.
"Hold on Scooter I'm on my way," Ruby said, "Men."
Weiss laughed at that as she sat down by her Mother. "The two people you care for the most are in that room," Ivy said, "You're not going to join them?"
"I care more about Ruby and Jayne than anyone I've ever met," Weiss agreed, "But the two of them combined are more than I care to deal with right now." Ivy smiled as she leaned back into the couch. Abrams had gone upstairs to send in the documents to Schnee Corporate so it was just Weiss and Ivy left in the living room. "You know DC will keep all of us gone a good bit," Weiss continued, "Even now one of their old haunts is being approached by the Necromorphs, and where the Necromorphs are then most likely so is Cinder's influence."
"We know," Ivy said softly, "Just promise me you will be careful."
"I will be," Weiss promised, "and I know Jayne will be looking out for himself. Blake has a cool head on her as well. As for Yang and Ruby..." A crash from the kitchen followed by an explosion and Ruby yelling "We're all okay" made Weiss' point perfectly.
"Yes I know," Ivy remarked before yelling, "What about the room?"
"Uh... um... it is fine, yeah, perfectly fine," Scooter replied as Weiss heard distinctive sounds of sweeping up broken glass followed by some spraying and scrubbing.
"Knocked off another vial of Dust," Ivy asked.
"Most likely," Weiss replied.
"The planet you are going to next," Ivy continued, "Have you been there with DC before?"
"Actually yes," Weiss said, "It is Serra, where Fenix and Delta are from. We stopped there before returning home so we didn't cross our own time lines. We have also been to Thedas, where Marion and friends are from. However DC has a lot of worlds that are represented within them and we will be fighting to protect them all."
"They say a child is supposed to take the achievements of the parents and then do better," Ivy said, "Weiss, you have done so much better. Mal's galaxy, these other worlds, you can protect them which is something that your Father and I just are not up to doing. That said if they want to buy Dust we have plenty thanks to Coris and the SaDiablos' tireless efforts to replicate it."
"And there is the business ploy," Weiss teased.
"Well we are still Schnees," Ivy said.
"True," Weiss agreed as Ruby, Scooter and Jayne reentered the room the three of them slightly more chocolate covered than before.
"None of you are sleeping in one of my beds with that chocolate on you," Weiss said, "Ruby I've got a spare set of your cloths in your bed room if you want to throw those in the wash tonight. Scooter just... I don't have anything for you, just throw what you have in the wash as well."
"What about me," Jayne asked.
"Well I do like chocolate," Weiss remarked as she got up and pulled Jayne with her upstairs. "But the bed sheets do not and somehow you have it smeared all in your hair. You are taking a shower." After making sure Jayne was going to take an actual shower Weiss returned downstairs where Ruby, Ivy and Abrams were sitting on the couch talking about, as Weiss expected, the wedding.
"Where is Scooter," Weiss asked.
"He is staying in his room until his cloths get done washing," Ruby replied, "I'll take them to him once they are done."
"Thanks," Weiss said, "So DC is leaving in two days, can we have the wedding before then?"
"I don't see how we can have the actual celebration in only two days," Abrams said, "Sun and Blake's took almost a week to set up and get everyone to and back home. Your two's will probably be about as difficult."
"I hear a however coming," Weiss commented.
"However," Ivy said, "We can go ahead and have a smaller event to preform the marriages. I know Summer would want that and I can't say I am not looking forward to it myself."
"Such and event could be held at Beacon easily enough," Ruby said, "Ozpin could perform the ceremony, just like with Blake and Sun."
"I... would agree to this," Weiss said, "I assume you two and Ruby's parents would be planning the celebration while we are out?"
"We would be," Abrams said.
"I would bet you could even talk a few of our friends into helping," Ruby added.
"Marriage," Weiss remarked, "It's hard to believe we're at this point. I suppose tomorrow we can get the team together and our families to go talk with Ozpin."
"Best not to wait," Abrams said, "That is if you are sure about this."
Weiss and Ruby looked between each other before replying, "We're sure."
Character Doctor
"Okay Aurora try it now," Doctor said as he adjusted the settings on a light capturing apparatus. River looked over from where she was sitting under one of the trees of Beacon Academy reading a book and muttered, "it will never work." Aurora sent another beam of light into the machine which consisted of refractors and mirrors that were angled in such a way that the light that goes into it is redirected to a converter that turns the light into a stored electric charge. Just like the last three times however the light went right through the machine.
"Are you sure this works," Igniculus asked.
"It will once I get the right frequency," Doctor replied as he went back to work on the device with the sonic screwdriver.
"It collects power just fine from the sun," Aurora stated, "My light shouldn't be any different."
"But oh how different it is," River remarked as she turned the page. The Doctor, Aurora and Igniculus looked at River who just smiled and went back to reading.
"Is she usually this mysterious," Aurora asked.
"Only when I am missing something that is right in front of me," Doctor replied. Then he noticed what River was reading and he got an idea. "Oh, oh ho, Aurora what if light is just a side effect of your power?"
"What," Aurora asked.
"Your power it is not over light, but over yourself," Doctor said. The book River was reading was Journey to the West. She had been trying to give him a clue all along, Aurora channeled herself in her attacks. Unlike Sun however, her essence projected itself not as duplicates but as a ray of her soul. The Doctor then explained this idea in a much to fast to follow run on sentence which left Aurora, Igniculus and even River looking at him in confusion. He didn't care however as another idea of how to help Aurora supply power to DC's various functions came to him, it would have to wait for another time though as his heat to electricity converter was lost somewhere in the back of the TARDIS.
"Doctor, hello," Igniculus said as he flew past his head, "We didn't understand any of that."
"Hey look over there," River said as she got up from under the tree and pointed over to where Ozpin, Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang and their respective families were making their way through the gardens that surrounded Beacon. The real kicker to the sight was that Ruby and Weiss were in long, white dresses and Jayne and Scooter were in suits.
"Looks like a wedding," Aurora said, "If we weren't invited we should probably leave them to their work."
"Right we shouldn't intrude," Doctor said somewhat disappointed that he wasn't invited. "Aurora, Igniculus thank you for this demonstration I think I might even be able to figure out how you tamed Midnight after today. Do you two want a ride or are you going to fly out of here?"
"We will fly thank you," Aurora said.
"Very well then, River," Doctor asked.
"Coming Sweetie," River said as she got up and walked into the TARDIS after waving good bye to Aurora and Igniculus.
"You two are accompanying us to Serra tomorrow correct," Doctor asked before he too ducked into the TARDIS.
"We are," Aurora said. Doctor smiled as he went inside and closed the door.
"Well that took you long enough to figure out," River said as she put the book away.
"How did you do it," Doctor asked.
"Simple observation really," River said, "the light that we see when Aurora uses her abilities is always constant, much more like a reflection of light rather than a producer of it."
"Of course," Doctor exclaimed, "how did I miss that?"
"It was to easy of an answer for you to accept," River said, "It always seems to be the easy answers that you don't like."
"Well that is just because," Doctor was interrupted by a beeping coming from the TARDIS and red lights flashing up on one of the screens on the walls. "Oh that can't be good, come on old girl show me what you've found." The screen which was just flashing warning in large red letters was replaced with a bird's eye view of the city of Haven. It then zoomed across the fields out front of the city and across some mountains to reveal a mass of mechanical monsters making their way towards the city.
"Those look like the robots that attacked Remnant," River remarked, "Only there are a lot more of them and they seem to be laced with Dust."
"Doug are you picking this up," Doctor asked.
"I am," Doug said through the comms, "This is troub..." Another warning cut Doug off as another screen pulled up a picture of San-Heilos, Arbiter's home, which was being approached by what looked like Sith ships. Another then appeared on yet a third screen which depicted Moscow being moved against by cyborg Grimm. Avalar popped up on another screen then the Library, Thessia, the Citadel, Pandora, Jayne's Town and Sanctuary.
"Oh dear," Doctor remarked, "Every place DC has ever been is under attack."
"So it would seem," Doug remarked, "K has been notified, we will still deal with the Necromorphs that are moving against Serra tomorrow but for today it looks like Haven needs our help, that army is only five hours out. Doctor can you jump the Infinity to Haven?"
"It will be tough but yes I can," Doctor replied, "Don't you and Sparks already have a force set up in their dimension?"
"We do," Doug said, "I will help as much as I can, the rest will be the Infinity's crew and those DC members assigned to the deployment."
"Haven is RuGaard's planet isn't it," Doctor said, "Him and his family should come with us, as should Hawk and Fisher since they are from the city itself."
"I've already notified them," Doug said, "The Lava Dome is in rout to the Infinity now, you should probably head there yourself. Oh and Doctor, we've never been to San Helios or Pandora... Cinder must be targeting any planet with connection to us, even places you have been may be up for invasion if this is her goal."
"We will keep that in mind," River said as the Doctor started them moving in the TARDIS. "We should pick up one of the teams from Remnant as well, any suggestions?"
"I believe JNPR is free at the moment," Doug said, "Should I instruct them to meet up with you?"
"That would be fine," Doctor said, "Thank you Doug."
"Anytime," Doug replied, "They are currently at their residence in Beacon." Doug then ended the communication to the TARDIS and left the Doctor and River to their mission.
"They have those omni-tools correct," Doctor asked.
"I believe they did pick some up when they first joined up," River answered, "Are you going to try and lock onto those?"
"Worth a shot that way we can materialize right on top of them," Doctor said as he ran about pressing buttons and hitting levers. He plucked his top hat off of a hat rack and his black suit top off of the same rack, artfully putting them both on in a single fluid movement. River smiled at him as she put on her leather trench coat and the TARDIS materialized out front of JNPR's house. The Doctor swung open the door and the four colorful warriors rushed in.
"Doug said we have trouble," Jaune said as he stopped at the console, "Where at?"
"Haven," Doctor replied as the doors shut, "It's on another planet so we thought we would bring you along to introduce you all to more of the worlds DC comes from."
"RWBY would love to go with us then," Pyrrha remarked.
"I'm sure they would if they were not having some sort of event in the Beacon Gardens," River said.
"Wedding," Nora sang happily.
"Which we were not invited to," Ren remarked, "I can understand if they want to keep it a private affair, I assume it is Ruby and Scooter?"
"Jayne and Weiss too," Doctor said.
"Really," Jaune asked, "I didn't know they were that serious."
"You didn't notice me until I told you," Pyrrha said, "In any case I would suspect that this is just a formality that they are taking to fulfill requirements for paper work."
"Scooter and Jayne were in a suit and the girls were in gowns," River said, "I'm pretty sure it is the real thing. We can take them to Haven another time."
"Alright well we are wasting time," Nora said with a big grin appearing on her face, "Lets go smash something!"
"Onto the Infinity then we are taking it and the Lava Dome to Haven with us," Doctor said as he finished plotting the course. A few more lever throws later and he flung the doors open to reveal the starring faces of Ozpin, Ruby, Scooter, Weiss, Jayne, Lao, Summer, Qrow, Yang, Junior, Elisa, Barry, Blake, Sun, Ivy, and Abrams. Ozpin, Jayne, Weiss, Ruby and Scooter were under a trellis that was covered in red and white roses while the rest of the guests were standing in the green of the grass that surrounded the flowers. "Oh, sorry, uh wrong button." The Doctor began to retreat back into the TARDIS when Ruby's voice stopped him.
"Doctor, you can't just crash a wedding and not stay for the lecture afterwards," Ruby said, "Especially our wedding."
"Right," Weiss added, "River you're on our side in this right?"
"Definitely," River said as she pushed the Doctor out of the TARDIS and JNPR followed her.
"I see you brought JNPR with you," Ozpin remarked, "Well we were just about done here anyway. You may kiss the bride." Weiss pounced Jayne almost dragging the bigger man to the ground while Ruby and Scooter took the more traditional approach. Ivy laugh at Weiss' approach and Yang's shout of "Yeah sis!" turned the almost serious moment into the unique RWBY style of moments that the four girls seemed to bring to everything they did. The Doctor still found himself clapping along with the rest as Junior shot fireworks into the air with his batzooka.
"Ah love," Nora remarked loudly causing everyone to stop and look at her before shaking their heads and starting to talk with the two newly married couples.
"Right, back in the TARDIS," Doctor said as he attempted to duck out before Weiss or Ruby caught him. His plan didn't work however as a glyph appeared in front of the TARDIS doors. "Oh that's just not fair!"
"I may not be in my combat skirt but I still have my glyphs," Weiss said as she, Ruby, Scooter and Jayne approached him.
"Look I'm really sorry but we really have to go," Doctor said, "Haven needs our help and I have to teleport the Infinity and Lava Dome over there right now."
"You have a time machine," Ruby said flatly.
"So before we let you go, you six will swear that you won't say a word until we get back from Serra," Weiss continued, "Got it?"
"Right larger celebration with more people," River said, "We understand."
"Nora," Ruby asked.
"Hey I kept Blake's Fanus heritage a secrete for years I can keep this for a few days," Nora scoffed.
"Good then," Jayne said.
"Alright we really should be going," Doctor said.
"Hey wait a minute," Weiss said as the Doctor turned to once again attempt to enter the TARDIS, "Where is Haven?"
"It's on another planet," Jaune said.
"We're in," Ruby said, "Give us a few minutes to get changed and we will all join you, right guys?"
"I'm in," Blake said for herself and Sun.
"Same for us," Junior said.
"Why must you two be so crazy," Abrams and Ozpin said as they both nodded their agreement.
"We're in," Qrow said, "Lao that means you're in too."
"I gathered that," Lao said as he hugged Summer.
"Yes road trip," Nora shouted as she ran back inside the now unsealed TARDIS.
"Oh alright but just this once," the Doctor agreed with mock sternness and a big smile on his face.
"You planned that didn't you," River remarked as the wedding crowd went to change into their regular cloths.
"I didn't but I can assume that she did," the Doctor replied while pointing at the TARDIS.
"Well has she ever steered you wrong," River asked.
"Not yet," Doctor said, "How long do you..."
"Okay we're ready," Ruby exclaimed as she, Weiss, Jayne and Scooter ran into the TARDIS, "Everyone else in?"
"We are here," Sun said.
"Great now if you would contact K and let him know we will join up with Delta on Serra tomorrow that would be wonderful," Weiss said.
"Oh," River remarked, "I get it. If none of use are here to tell anyone then no one can mess up your plan to let everyone have a good time at the celebration. It will be more like a second wedding right?"
"Now you've got it," Ruby said. "Since Weiss and I wanted the joint marriage ceremony and she needed to be legally married to Jayne so he could be finalized into the Schnee family we went ahead and had the legal ceremony so that Abrams could send off the last few forms. Then when we got back from Serra and had more time we could have another ceremony with a more inclusive list of our friends. I am glad that you brought JNPR though it's the only reason we didn't harp on you a lot more."
"I... well you actually were paying attention to all the formalities behind this," Abrams remarked.
"I told you she was much more than she appears," Weiss said.
"Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Haven and Serra are just two in a now long list of worlds that need our help," Doctor said, "San-Helios, Earth, the Citadel, Sanctuary, Pandora, Jayne's Town, and many others are being moved against by our enemy, we may not be able to give you the time you want for such a party."
"You have a time machine," Ruby once again stated, "But I understand that even the TARDIS has her limits, like Storm or Ignitus. I can wait a while before we have the party, Weiss?"
"I would like for Father and Mother to be able to play with their grand-kids but I suppose waiting another few months won't make any difference."
"I would hope not," Ivy said, "I don't think I'm getting that old that fast."
"Ha that's funny neither do I," Doctor said, "Alright then old girl can we go help Haven now?" At that the TARDIS started up and after a few moments the Doctor checked to see if they had picked the Infinity and Lava Dome up in their jump. "Doctor to Del Rio and RuGaard do you read me?"
"We are here," RuGaard replied, "Interesting way to warp us, I never even noticed you landing in the Dome."
"Del Rio reporting," Del Rio replied, "Good work Doctor it would appear we arrived just in time. Are you picking up the signatures from those constructs?"
"I am," Doctor replied, "Doug are you out there?"
"I am," Doug replied, "Glad to have your help. The Reaper clones are outfitted with everything from small arms to super weapons that can rip right through any of my units. The shield around Haven has been holding however."
"Well K and C built it I figured it would last a good long time," River remarked.
"Del Rio pull the Infinity back behind the Lava Dome," RuGaard said, "We can absorb the power from those lasers and turn it back against the machines."
"I do that and you will be in the way of my shots," Del Rio replied.
"Would you rather be shot out of the sky by lasers," Doctor said, "We could use your army to keep the infantry units repressed until our larger guns take down their capital units."
"It would seem that I have no choice in this strategy," Del Rio said, "Fine I will provide air support for the Dome and assist Haven with ground troops."
"Thank you," Doug said, "I will send you a map of the area and where I could use your help."
"Send me that map as well," Doctor said, "I have several passengers that are ready to help."
"You should be receiving it now," Doug said. Sure enough the TARDIS pulled up the strategic map of the area around Haven that displayed all known enemy deployments and Doug's efforts to counter them. "I should also note that Hightower and Carren are both helping defend the city with the guards that remain there."
"Well they are about to get their two best ones back," Hawk said through Del Rio's feed, "We're heading in."
"I've landed in the city," Doctor said, "Meet us at your old HQ that seems to be where the resistance forces have gathered."
"We will," Hawk said.
"I believe we are done talking for now then," Del Rio said, "Doctor keep us informed of your progress if you would."
"And the three of you me," Doctor said as he closed the call and opened the doors of the TARDIS. "Okay everyone outside we've got an invasion to stop."
Character Caboose
"Falling time," Caboose exclaimed as he got into the drop pod next to Tucker.
"I hate orbital drops," Tucker remarked as he got into his pod.
"I think they are pretty fun," Jr. said as he went to his pod.
"Exactly why are we doing this again," Church asked on the inter pod comms as Caboose strapped in.
"Because Mercury is helping Ironwood go through the Invention and copy it's design," Delta replied, "We would only be a distraction at this time for them, thus you had us relocate to the Infinity."
"I know that," Church snapped, "I meant..."
"You meant why are we dropping out of the ship instead of taking Pelicans," Caboose said. There was silence for a few moments before Church replied.
"That's actually exactly what I was thinking," Church said, "Caboose have you been getting smarter while I've been gone?"
"Could you repeat the question please," Caboose asked.
"Everyone strapped in," Palmer, the leader of the other Spartan teams on the Infinity, said, "You're dropping in five."
"Five what," Caboose asked, "five pools? Five garbage cans, I hate falling into garbage ca..." His pod being fired out of the bay cut Caboose off. "Ah oh right five seconds, haha, that makes so much more sense now."
"Caboose, son, if you have to talk to yourself do so without the communicators on," Sarge said, "Your starting to drive me crazy."
"You're already crazy," Tucker managed to say between his dry heaves.
"Everyone shut up," Carolina yelled. Everyone shut up until they landed just outside the city of Haven. Caboose punched his drop pod open and got out then he turned around and grabbed his assault rifle and Spartan Laser and threw them onto his back.
"Hey Caboose man help me out of this thing," Tucker yelled from his pod.
"Right," Caboose replied as the rest of the team got out of their pods. With a quick kick Caboose unjammed the door.
"Whoa nice," Tucker said as he got out, "I was about to use the sword on it."
"Come on you two quit chatting," Church said, "the Doctor is inside the city with his..."
"Hey everyone," Ruby yelled as Scooter jumped over the wall of the city in his truck form with RWBY, JNPR, Doctor, River, Hawk and Fisher in the vehicle.
"Well they are quite the reinforcements," Carolina remarked as she waved to Pyrrha.
"I like them they are good at fighting," Caboose said.
"In case you've not noticed you are quite capable yourself," Sigma said, "Your strength is remarkable."
"Yeah his is," Caboose agreed.
"However your mental state is less than encouraging," Gamma added.
"I didn't know mental was a state," Caboose said genuinely shocked.
"Well it is and you've been in it for years," Church said, "Doctor what are we looking at here?"
"Doug has identified a factory of sorts that is responsible for these machines," Doctor said, "We are going to take it out while RuGaard and his company holds Haven."
"Where is it," Tex asked.
"Follow us," Summer yelled as she pulled up in front of a platoon of Warthogs. Summer, Lao, Jayne, Junior, Abrams, Ivy, Qrow, Ozpin, Elisa and Barry were all driving one.
"These handle very well for running on hydrogen," Ozpin remarked.
"Caboose, Church hop in," Junior yelled, "Two of you guys per vehicle."
They all mounted up, Caboose got to operate the turret. He liked the turret, mainly because it had an almost unlimited amount of ammo also he could spin around in circles on it while they were driving and get dizzy.
"Caboose cut it out you're going to fall off if you keep that up," Church said ten minutes later as the group drove along the road towards the factory.
"That is fine since I am already dizzy," Caboose exclaimed as he continued looking straight up and spinning on the turret.
"Yeah could you explain to me again why you all are with DC," Junior asked.
"You know man I really don't know," Church replied.
"Because we don't fit with anyone else," Caboose said, "That's what we told K at least."
"I can buy that," Junior said, "Okay seriously though cut out the spinning we're going off road now." The convoy turned off the road and headed down a fairly large hill to arrive at what used to be a quarry. Rising up on the other side of what looked to be a granite quarry was a metal structure that was sixty feet tall, a hundred feet wide and ran back into the side of the hill that rose up behind it for who knows how far. It also had several very large turrets that were taking aim at the group.
"North, Theta, shields now," Carolina yelled. North and Theta jumped in front of the vehicles and threw up a shield wall that blocked the cannon fire.
"Those are some really big explosions," Caboose remarked as the forty millimeter shells slammed into the shield.
"How do we get through that," South asked.
"I can get through," Carver said.
"You are a floating sword," Church remarked, "but what good is a sword against a ten ton cannon?" Carver, Tucker, Weiss and Blake just looked at Church. "Hey I'm just asking!"
"He has a point," Main said.
"Yes he does," Yang commented with a snicker.
"Really," Main stated, "whatever, Church is right we are going to need something like a laser or just a really massive object, or a bomb to take those turrets out."
"Could you guys hurry up with the planning we are already down ten percent on the shields," Theta said.
"Let me help," Weiss said as she threw up some glyphs to help deflect some of the incoming projectiles.
"I've got a laser," Caboose said, "But somebody put a wall in my way."
"I can take out the other turret with rockets," Junior said, "Only problem is as soon as we drop that shield those rounds are going to be hitting us."
"Oh I wouldn't worry about that," Abrams said as he pulled out several vials of Dust. "Turrets, automated ones especially, have a very hard time finding a target through a veil of smoke. We however can take aim before the smoke deploys and then drop the shields to take out the emplacements."
"That might work," Lao said.
"Unless the turrets are manned in which case they would just keep shooting at our position," Carolina said.
"The turrets are manned," Zeta said.
"What if we go over the wall," Caboose asked.
"Over the wall," Church asked, "with what?"
"I brought some incendiary dust crystals that Coris wanted me to test out," Abrams said, "Supposedly he has altered their form so that they burn hot enough to melt through most anything."
"So you use them like a grenade," Wyoming stated.
"Oh I'm great with grenades," Doughnut said, "Only thing is that shield is too high for me to get a good angle on the turrets from here. I would need to be about twenty feet higher to hit the turrets."
"I can help with that," Caboose said as he grabbed Doughnut by the ankles and set the other Spartan on his shoulders. Then Caboose climbed onto the hood of a Warthog with Doughnut on his shoulders. "Is this high enough?"
"This is much better thanks Caboose," Doughnut said.
"Ah it is nothing, I do it all the time for Church and he is much heavier than you," Caboose replied.
"You carry Church on your shoulders all the time," Ren asked amused.
"Well a lot of times, when he wants piggy back rides or wants to do super high fives with Arizona, or just wants to look important," Caboose said.
"Hey hey hey enough," Church said, "Doughnut can you make the throw from there?"
"Guys shield at fifty percent," North said.
"I can make it," Doughnut stated.
"Here," Abrams said as he handed Doughnut two red and blue crystals, "Do not drop them."
"It is like a shoulder massage," Caboose said as Doughnut stood back up, "Except without the massage."
"Okay guys here we go," Doughnut said as he flung one then the other crystal. The turrets tried to shoot the crystals out of the air but Weiss deflected the shots with glyphs. She leaned back into Jayne and Ruby for support for a few moments after summoning the nearly forty glyphs. The crystals shattered on the turrets and the metal instantly caught fire a fire that spread from the turrets to the roof of the building then to the walls.
"Good golly blazes that is an inferno," Sarge exclaimed, "Yeah score one for the Red team."
"I would like to take partial credit," Abrams said, "Seeing as those are my explosives you used."
"I would like to take that as well," Caboose said as he put Doughnut down, "Because these are the something of someone's that you did stuff with."
"Hrrr fine Red team gets one Caboose gets a negative one and Abrams can have the point that Caboose had," Sarge said.
"I would like to thank all the little people that helped me get here today," Caboose said, "I accept your award of whatever it was you said."
"He must be the easiest guy to work with ever," Jaune remarked.
"Trust me he has his challenges," Tucker said, "Like his worshiping of Church while also randomly killing him, or just not understanding directions."
"But wait if your an AI then how did," Ruby started to ask.
"Don't," Church, Tex, Wash and Tucker said.
"Oh sorry," Ruby said, "Wow that building is melting in that fire and you store this stuff in your warehouses?"
"Not after today we are not," Ivy stated as they all watched the factory continue to burn with the occasional explosion coming out of it.
"I hope there weren't any people in there," Ruby said.
"There were," Zeta answered, "But they were the cybernetic monsters that our foes have been using against us."
"I hope I am not a cyber whatsits monster thingy," Caboose said.
"No Caboose the only thing monstrous about you is you mental deficiency," Weiss said.
"For an ice queen you sure know how to burn," Grif remarked. Weiss gave Grif a glare that might very well have set him on fire and freeze him if looks could do such a thing.
"I want to get away from the scary lady now," Caboose said as he hid behind Tex. Weiss just scoffed and got into the drivers seat of a Warthog.
"The factory has been rendered useless," Gamma reported, "Our job here is done, we should return and help secure the defenses of Haven they are under attack from a force that arrived from the north."
"Then we can flank them," Fisher said.
"The attackers are they mechanical in nature," Doctor asked.
"Robotic from the description of them," Sigma said.
"Then I have an idea to stop them," Doctor said.
"Riding time," Caboose announced as he got onto the turret again. Everyone got back into the Warthogs and turned around to head back to Haven. A massive explosion behind them signaled the end of the factory as they left. Caboose didn't bother to look at it because he was to busy looking into the sky and spinning in circles much to Junior's annoyance.
"Stop," Junior said again several minutes later as the convoy was coming insight of Haven.
"Make me," Caboose replied again.
"Seriously dude stop it we are coming up behind the robots that are attacking the city," Tucker said from the passenger seat.
"I like robots," Caboose said, "But I also like living so I guess we will have to stop the big, mean robots."
"And you know how to use a spartan laser," Junior asked, "I guess there is a reason for everything right?"
"You know if you were anyone else I'd disagree," Tucker said, "But since you're the guy who found his amazingly hot wife by having her get mad at you and blow up your building a couple of times... I'm just going to go along with that."
"Why is everything spinning," Caboose asked as he stopped turning in circles on the turret.
"Because you're dizzy moron," Tucker said.
"I though Dizzy was a cowboy does this mean I am a cowboy, I've always wanted to be a cowboy," Caboose exclaimed.
"Look at the size of those things they are at least thirty feet tall," Junior stated.
"They are only thumb tall to me," Caboose said as he held his thumb up and covered on of the robots.
"That's because they are far away," Tucker said.
"I don't think being far away would make them any less thumb sized," Caboose said.
"I hope to God that the Doctor has a plan that will actually work," Junior sighed as the caravan stopped on the outskirts of the battle. Above him Caboose saw RuGaard and his family fly around in their armor as they repelled the attacks made against the city.
"Doctor what is your plan," Hawk asked.
"It involves me using a really heavy device while moving through those robots," Doctor said as he soniced the key to the TARDIS to bring her to him. The time machine appeared a few moments later and the Doctor ducked inside.
"Wait for it," River said.
Sticking his head back out the Doctor said, "I will need someone to carry it for me."
"I can carry it," Caboose stated as he got off the turret and walked into the TARDIS. The device was a large bowling ball shaped instrument panel with three dishes that came up from where the holes would be. Caboose picked it up with a grunt and carried it outside.
"Okay now put it in that crew carrier Warthog so I can work with it while we drive through the robots," the Doctor said. "You'll have to come too to hold it steady while I calibrate it."
"Right," Caboose agreed, "Because wobbling is bad."
"I'm driving," Grif stated as he got in.
"What," Simmons asked.
"Not to brag but I am the best driver of Warthogs here," Grif said, "If we are going to be dodging those things with their guns and giant feet then we need the best and I'm it." The Doctor and Caboose got in and gave the thumbs up to go. "Also it is totally a Puma!"
"Yeah you know I always thought it looked like a big cat," Caboose remarked as he held the instrument sphere in place.
"Eh I just wanted to make sure that if we died for this dumb idea I would get the last argument in," Grif said.
"No dying today," Doctor said, "This instrument is designed to interface with the control signals of cybernetics and reroute their controls to it. Meaning once it gets a signal lock I can control the robots."
"Let me guess it has to be close to the robots to get a signal though," Grif said, "Terrific."
"I like robots," Caboose said.
"Well in a few minutes I hope to have a lot of robots that will like you too," Doctor said.
"I don't think letting Caboose have a bunch of killer robots that are bent on doing his will is a good thing," Grif said.
"I think they would be nice killer robots," Caboose said, "and I would name them... Mittens."
"Caboose hold that dish there, Grif can you straighten us out and come up alongside that robot in the back of the pack?"
"The one with the massive guns pointed right at us," Grif yelled as he dodged a laser that carved the ground up in front of them, "No you're crazy."
"Can you get behind it," Caboose suggested.
"If there are no guns in the back sure," Grif replied.
"Well try that then," Doctor said, "We have to get closer."
"Doctor whatever you are doing do it faster," Carolina yelled through the radio in the Warthog.
"Whoa hold on," Grif yelled as he spun the Warthog to avoid explosions that were caused by two turrets on the back of the robot.
"We have to get this to that robot," Doctor said, "It is already to go it just needs to be attached to the robot."
"Does it stick to it on contact or something," Grif asked.
"Yes," Doctor replied.
"Then your delivery system is sitting beside it," Grif said as he weaved around a punch from the robot.
Caboose noticed the Doctor looking at him. "Hello," Caboose said.
"Caboose can you throw this onto that robot," Doctor asked.
"I can do that," Caboose said as he stood up in the back of the Hog. He picked up the device again and squatted down so he could use all the force in his body to propel the device. Grif spun the Warthog around as he dodged a kick and Caboose launched the device. It sailed through the air and fell a few feet short of the robot's foot before rolling down a small incline to stick to the hammer shaped limb. The robot went stiff as the device interfaced with it.
"Wow Caboose that was an amazing throw," Grif yelled.
"Well done well done indeed," the Doctor added, "Now I just need to program the robot to send those commands to the rest of the unit."
"On it," Grif said as he pulled up beside the robot, "Oh no more of them are on their way over here."
"I'll need a minute or two to send the signal," Doctor said, "Can you two buy me that time?"
"We don't have any guns on this thing," Grif said.
"There are guns on that thing," Caboose said as he pointed to the robot.
The Doctor flashed his sonic screwdriver at one of the rear cannons a few times before it fell off and landed next to him, "Caboose if you are strong enough to throw this device then you are strong enough to use this plasma cannon."
"I like plasma it is very shiny," Caboose said as he jumped out and picked up the cannon that was the same size as he was.
"Hurry up Caboose get in," Grif yelled, "we have to move before those guys get into range." Caboose hopped in the back and mounted the cannon over one of the rails. Grif drove them off to distract the robots that were coming to investigate their activity. A few moments later they were met with lasers and plasma as they entered the robots' range. Caboose shot back but other than stunning the mech the cannon didn't seem to do much damage. In any case it got the three investigating robots' attention so that they left the Doctor alone.
"Time for the really fast driving," Caboose yelled as the cannon ran out of ammo and he threw it off the Hog.
"Yeah I would but we have a lot more of those robots heading our way," Grif replied, "We are running out of places to go."
"Focus your fire on the incoming robots," Ozpin yelled from the turret of a Warthog as the rest of the convoy rolled up, "JNPR take the two on the left, RWBY get the ones coming up behind us, Hawk, Fisher punch through to the city with the rest of the team. Main, South, Carver are you with me?"
"We're still in the car right," Main asked.
"Good," Ozpin stated, "Grif, Caboose are you two okay?"
"We are now," Grif said.
"Hello," Caboose replied with a wave.
"If you still have that laser Caboose then you may want to use it," South said, "How long until the Doctor is finished?"
"Oh he said he would be done... soon," Caboose said.
"He said a few minutes," Grif said, "But until then let's not sit here while those monsters get closer."
"Right," Main said, "Let's go blow them up."
"I've got a laser," Caboose stated.
"That you do Caboose," Ozpin said, "Main let's go help keep the Doctor clear. Grif follow us in if you will."
Caboose braced himself against the rails of the Hog as he brought out the Spartan Laser and Grif drove after Main. There was one robot that had disengaged RWBY and was heading in the Doctor's direction. Caboose looked between the robot and the laser before deciding to 'help' the robot. A laser blast later and sparks were flying from the mech's shoulder. A volley of rockets from Ozpin's turret finished off the limb and got the robot to turn away from the Doctor.
"Uh-oh," Caboose stated, "Nice, uh nice, giant, killer, robot."
"Just shoot it's other arm," Grif said.
"Oh right," Caboose replied as he followed up another volley of rockets with a laser blast.
"That is two down," South said, "How many are left?"
"Not counting the three RWBY has taken out, and the two that JNPR has felled and the six that the rest of our band eliminated and the thirty or so that RuGaard and his family have broken," Carver said, "there are another hundred and fifty-seven remaining."
"We are clear for now," Weiss reported as she drove up with Jayne on the turret and Ivy in the side.
"We can keep this right," Jayne asked as he spun around on the turret. "Cause this turret is awesome!"
"I like spinning too," Caboose said.
"Got it," the Doctor yelled loud enough for Caboose to hear him over the sounds of explosions and gunfire that were abounding on the battlefield. A massive pulse fired out of the robot that Caboose had stuck the device to. It blinded him for a second or two as it passed but when Caboose could see again all the robots that were remaining were now lowering their weapons and seemingly shutting down.
"Well that is certainly one way to end it," Ozpin remarked.
"Not my first method of choice," Carver said.
"Can the robots be my friends now," Caboose asked as the Doctor ran up to them.
"Yes Caboose they are friendly now," Doctor said, "I'm just routing the command functions to RuGaard so he can repeat them to the various leaders of his empire here."
"We should head to the city," Ivy said, "See what damage has been done and if we can help."
"I like robots," Caboose said as they collected the rest of RWBY and JNPR before heading to the city.
Character RuGaard
RuGaard pushed over the mech that was just attacking him and Nilrasha. It clattered to the ground and remained there. Nilrasha moved up beside him and pawed her helmet back so that it sat back on her neck. RuGaard did the same before saying, "Well I guess the Doctor has something to do with this."
"A city is about to be destroyed when suddenly everything just stops," Nilrasha remarked as she looked around at the stationary robots, "That does seem like his style."
"We will have to thank him later first we should meet with Hightower, Carren, Hawk and Fisher," RuGaard said. "I will have to compliment Sarge as well this armor is an amazing feat of engineering. Why I bet I will barely be sore come morning."
"Considering the hits you took that would be remarkable," Nilrasha said, "You don't have to jump in front of every punch that comes my direction you know, I can take care of myself."
"I know I just don't want anything to... I don't want to have to have K fix you up again is all," RuGaard said.
"You're sweet when you're not worried about ruling," Nilrasha said.
"Then maybe we should get involved with more life threatening situations," RuGaard said as they replaced their helmets and flew to the city.
"Or we could just leave," Nilrasha said over the radio.
"Leave the work of ruling up to the newer generations," RuGaard stated, "It has crossed my mind. We are immortal after all I'm not sure that any government should be ruled by one who doesn't die. We would keep the Lava Dome though."
"I don't think K would let it out of DC's grasp anyway," Nilrasha said, "But enough here is your sister now with our human allies." RuGaard and Nilrasha circled down to land beside Wistala, Hightower, and Carren.
"Tyr," Carren greeted as she continued to sharpen her knife.
"Carren always a pleasure," RuGaard said, "Hightower, how does the city fare?"
"Haven is not as good as it was before but better than I had thought it would be after such an attack," Hightower said, "Just whatever you do, do not leave those things near here. Each one would have a cult following it within a week and eventually they would figure out how to turn them back on."
"I believe we can manage disposing of them for you now that they are inactive," RuGaard said, "Has anyone heard from the ground teams yet?"
"Were right here," Fisher declared as she, Hawk, Sarge, Tex, the Doctor, Ruby and Jaune walked in.
"Diplomatic as always," Carren remarked with a smirk, "Fisher I always did like your style."
"Is everyone accounted for," Nilrasha asked.
"We are all fine yes," Jaune said, "Thanks to the Doctor, Grif and Caboose really."
"Oh," Wistala asked, "This I have to hear."
"You're going to regret that," Tex said as the Doctor stepped up to the group and began his explanation of how he, Caboose and Grif use a device to shut the robots off. It took the man almost an hour to relate the ten minute ordeal due solely to all the description and explanation of how the device and robots worked. RuGaard took note of the three important details of the whole story; one the Doctor has a device that can turn off robots if it can copy their electric code, two this same device can be used to command any robots deactivated by it and three there were about a hundred and fifty robots left out there that this device could control.
"Doctor," RuGaard said interrupting the man's theories on where the robots came from, "Could you show a dragon or two how to use this device?"
"Well yes of course I could," the Doctor said, "Why?"
"Tala where is AuRon," RuGaard asked, "I think AuSurath and AuMoahk would be very interested in this."
"You thinking about turning the kingdom over to them," Nilrasha asked.
"It wouldn't be such a bad idea would it," RuGaard said, "They are our nephews after all and these machines would ensure that they could maintain order."
"The two of them are a lot like you and your brother," Nilrasha said, "And I wouldn't mind not having to deal with politics all the time."
"I'm here brother," AuRon called as he landed and folded his wings.
"You fought them without a suit," RuGaard asked surprised.
"K did more than just harden my skin it seems," AuRon replied cryptically, "Now what did you need?"
"I, we, want AuSurath and AuMoahk to go with the Doctor here and learn how to control these machines," RuGaard said, "It's time we turned the empire over to someone else and the commanders of the Aerial Host are as good a choice as any."
"I'll speak with them about it," AuRon said as a smile slipped across his normally stony face, "I don't imagine that they will refuse though."
"We can follow you in the TARDIS," Doctor said, "Just let me get Caboose to haul the Resonator back in."
"So that's what it is called," Tex stated.
"Brother if they agree I want to pass the leadership over as quietly as possible," RuGaard said, "Let the robots be the seal of my approval once this is done meet us at the palace in the Lava Dome, we should be heading back soon anyway."
"It's odd you know," AuRon said, "Fifty years ago I would not have thought you one to lay this title down peacefully but now I can't think of any other way you would have it transferred." With that AuRon flew off.
"He is right you know," Tala said, "It has taken a long time to get to know you. I'll get DarSii and Natasha, tell them of you plan."
"Thank you Tala," RuGaard said, "Have Father and Mother returned to the Dome already?"
"Yes you know they don't mix well with the others here," Tala said, "Zara also, the undead are something not looked kindly upon anywhere in the empire."
"And NooMoahk," Nilrasha asked.
"He is still out visiting old haunts of his, expect him to return by dark though," Tala said. She then took to the air and headed south to the other side of the city.
"How has a city that is the cesspool of the country become the center of an empire," Hawk asked.
"Because we first met DC here," RuGaard said, "And the still mostly functional resource generators have advanced the technology of Haven a great deal compared to the rest of the world, electricity, pure water, robotics, the people may need a lot of... guidance but Cortana's influence here is a major advantage."
"Yeah to bad the combat systems shut down when a Commander isn't present," Carren said, "Could have used those guns."
"As it is we didn't need them," Hightower said, "And with luck we will have constructed enough to build a command unit, these robots might actually be able to be the base for it."
"I'd be careful with those things," Ruby said, "any one of those weapons could level this city."
"That is exactly why I want to make sure we are the first to get one working," Carren said, "Otherwise the gangs and crime lords will get one and hold the whole city hostage."
"With that we can not help you," Fisher said, "We must return to Remnant there are other deployments we need to take care of."
"You two keep an eye on each others' backs for me okay," Hawk said, "And if my brother ever does decide that the Forest Kingdom needs some support I suppose you could help him."
"Ha I'll keep it in mind," Hightower said, "Now off with you all, you've got other places to save and while I don't want to seem ungrateful for the help, dragons in robotic suits cause quite the stir, not to mention the abilities that you and your teams displayed while fighting those robots." The last was said with a nod towards Ruby and Jaune.
"Oh well thanks," Jaune said, "Just glad we could help."
"We will return to the Infinity and wait until you are ready to leave," Tex said.
"When you get a chance bring those suits back to the mechanic shop on the Infinity and I'll patch up any damage they might have suffered," Sarge added as the ground team leaders left.
"Hightower, Carren, you two seem to have filled Hawk and Fisher's roles in Haven, you still have my support to rule the city and I am sure I can get AuSurath and AuMoahk to continue that support," RuGaard said, "But for now we must depart." He and Nilrasha took off into the sky and headed for the Lava Dome that was floating over Cortana's old base outside the city. It was five minutes before they arrived at the Dome and another ten before they had removed the armor and gotten everything ready for AuSurath and AuMoahk to take up the role of Tyrs.
"You know joint rule has not had a history of success in the Dome," Nilrasha said right before RuGaard and she walked out to meet with the two.
"Outcasts didn't have a long life expectancy before me either," RuGaard replied, "Besides those two have been working together for years now, AuSurath may be the public figure head for the Host but it is AuMoahk who has been the tactician. Besides they won't be ruling from the Dome but from Haven."
"Not Hypatia," Nilrasha asked.
"The robots are here, DC is connected with this city not our empire," RuGaard said, "Now lets go turn those two loose on the world."
"I'll agree to that," Nilrasha said as they left their chambers in the Imperial Rock and headed to the massive overlook where they were going to meet to confer the title of Tyr. "Just how long have you been planning this?"
"Just about since DC offered to let us go with them," RuGaard said. Stepping out into the light of the afternoon RuGaard saw AuRon, Natasha, Wistala, DarSii, AuRel, Irene, NooMoahk, AuSurath, AuMoahk, Varatheela and Isatach. "Ah I see the whole family made it out, Varatheela I am surprised that your charges let you out of their sight."
"Oh they didn't," Varatheela replied, "The Heavy Wing is in attendance for this." She flicked her head off to the left of the cliff where the entire Heavy Wing of the Aerial Host flew up and landed at attention.
"You truly command the finest section of Host," AuMoahk said, "Such precision and from the heaviest of our fliers."
"Today we are here as witness to the passing of Tyr," Varatheela said, "And since it is passing to my brothers and the commander of the entire Host it seems fitting we are here."
"To be perfectly honest I am glad the empire is moving to Haven," Isatach said, "The weather here is more hospitable to dragons."
"Better ores here too," AuSurath added, "But we really should get this done with quickly there will be a lot of quarreling to put down after this is finished."
"The Doctor showed you how to operate the machine I hope," RuGaard asked.
"If by showed us you mean poured information straight into our heads then yes," AuMoahk said.
"I do feel sorry for you then," RuGaard said, "He did that once to me a few years ago... but enough of this you are right we do not have time to talk. AuSurath, AuMoahk I declare today in the presence of the Heavy Wing of the Aerial Host that you two are to assume the role of Tyr of the entire Empire of Worlds Upper and Lower. Do any here object to this?"
"The Aerial Host has no objections," AuSurath said.
"Then from this moment forth you are Tyrs in full do as you will," RuGaard finished. "On a personal note congratulations and good luck the position of Tyr is a hard fought and even even harder kept position, to be honest only by being away so much did I continue this long in the position."
"You two will also have our support and that of DC if you need it," Nilrasha said.
"Thank you," AuMoahk said, "I suppose we should leave and let everyone know the change."
"Here take with you some of my scales," RuGaard said, "To prove that we actually were here."
"Why do that when you could just talk with the other leaders through the Dome you are keeping it are you not," Isatach asked.
"Now there is a sensible head," Irene said, "No need to knock your scales out just to prove something that you have the technology to prove it yourself."
"I will but the scales will make it more official for the older dragons that are still not used to the technology," RuGaard said as he knocked out a few loose scales and gave them to the brothers. "Tyrs take care of yourselves and your sisters there will be a lot of people who want you dead now, even old friends that you thought you could trust."
"Then it is a good thing we never trusted anyone," AuSurath said, "Also the sooner you all leave the better. I would like to start moving our capitol here by tomorrow."
"We are leaving tonight," AuRon said, "As soon as you all depart actually."
"Until next time then," Varatheela asked.
"Until next time grand daughter," AuRel said, "Now off with you all of you."
"AuRon I will be going with them," NooMoahk said as the great undead dragon stretched his wings, "I will be around until DC comes back anyway so I might as well help the little fire starters out, I hope I will do better by them than I did by you."
"You did good by me," AuRon said, "I know you will do better for them though." The black orbs of fire that were NooMoahk's eyes flashed as he took off into the sky to follow the Heavy Wing that was already departing the Dome.
"Well he will be proof enough that you all came back," AuMoahk said, "I like him."
"You are named after him," Natasha said.
"True," AuMoahk replied as the two Tyrs flew up to follow their Host.
"Well another brief family reunion," Wistala remarked, "They always seem so short."
"It was only thirty minutes," DarSii stated.
"See it only felt like ten," Ace remarked as he bubbled up from the stone next to RuGaard, "Sup?"
"NooMoahk come back," RuGaard called, "We've got a fire starter right here for you to teach."
"Oh come on I just know how to have a little fun," Ace said, "And now that we don't have to worry about your king of the world business maybe you can start to learn how to have some too."
"I'd like to see you try and teach him that," Zara said.
"Well I know who to get him to hang out with to start that process at least," Ace said with a grin.
"Who would... wait," RuGaard started, "Oh no."
"Oh yes," Ace said, "And the best part is, you can't stop me from taking you to them." Ace then exploded into a whirlwind of blood that enveloped RuGaard and Nilrasha. An implosion later and the three were on the Infinity. They had arrived in one of the Pelican maintenance bays, several of the ships were filling the different bays as they were being repaired from the damage suffered during the attack on Haven.
"Ace why did you bring us here," Nilrasha asked, "And do the others know where we are?" Her voice echoed through out the massive space that was the repair bay startling most of the workers at the three dragons' appearance. Sarge however waved and called them over to him.
"I let Zara, Mom and Dad know where I took you two, the Dome will be near by shortly so we can warp back to Remnant."
"Ah good just what I need, a few strong types to help me install a new canon on this bird here," Sarge said as the three walked over to him.
"This is your idea of fun," RuGaard said to Ace, "Really?"
"Give him a chance," Ace said then to Sarge, "What does it do?"
"It fires modified bubble shield devices at incoming missiles," Sarge said, "The shields then stick to the missiles and deploy causing the rocket to bounce off anything it hits and then exploding inside the shield. It's the ultimate defensive weapon."
"That sounds much to reasonable to be the reason you built something that sounds so useful," RuGaard stated.
"Well it can also be shot manually so you can deploy shields around your teams on the ground," Sarge said then after a pause, "Also so I can shield my food from Grif."
"I'm back here Sarge," Grif called from behind the Pelican, "I can hear you you know."
"What's that I can't hear you over the sound of this drill," Sarge yelled back as he turned on a power drill. RuGaard chuckled at that, he could think of a lot of dragons in the empire that he wished he could have done that to.
"If your cannon is so useful why are you not using one of the open bays to install it," Nilrasha asked as she looked around at the back of the room which was where Sarge had the Pelican parked.
"Palmer said I couldn't use the bays she doesn't want me to break anything," Sarge replied.
"Why is that," Ace asked.
"She doesn't think the idea will actually work," Simmons said as he, Doughnut and Lopez walked over, "We got the rest of the tools you need."
"Great work Simmons," Sarge said approvingly, "Just set them over there with the cannon."
Looking over his shoulder RuGaard saw the cannon, it was a half sphere with two tubes sticking out of it. The tubes were only about five feet long and six inches across and the sphere had about a six foot diameter.
"Maybe Palmer doesn't want you replacing on of the guns with something that only has two shots in it," RuGaard commented.
"What," Sarge exclaimed, "Non-sense that thing has unlimited ammo thanks to digi-struct technology it does take about five seconds to make each device, but once I've tested it out I can probably shorten that to three."
"Now tell me you are not the tiniest bit interested in seeing how this works," Ace said.
"Well if you're interested just help me flip this bird upside down and we will get started," Sarge said.
RuGaard looked over at Nilrasha, she just blinked and looked back, he then snarled as he admitted defeat and grabbed onto the Pelican, "Well come on then you wanted to show me how to have fun your going to help."
"Right beside you brother," Ace said as he added his unnatural strength to RuGaard's own considerable force. Nilrasha joined in to help make the flip without damaging the Pelican and then the group went to work on installing the cannon. Ten minutes in Lasky announced over the intercom that they were going to warp back to Remnant and to expect a few shakes and bumps and the like. RuGaard didn't pay much attention to the message since he was busy aligning the cannon.
"Yeah right there is perfect hold it steady while I get these bolts in," Sarge said, "Lopez get the other side.
"Si," Lopez replied as he went around to bolt in the other side.
"If Lopez can speak multiple languages now that he has a working voice module why does he choose to speak on that none of you four know," Nilrasha asked.
"I guess it keeps him connected to his roots," Grif said, "Or it's so he can insult Sarge without him knowing."
"Alright got it," Sarge said, "Now I need this plane right side up. I need Simmons to get into the wiring on this thing and hook us up."
"Uh I don't think it will sit right side up with this thing under it's nose," Ace commented.
"Oh right we have to add the legs first," Sarge declared. He then drug over to them four, eight foot long steel beams that were three feet thick. "These will work just fine."
"I thought the idea was to put it under one of the wings," Nilrasha said.
"Plans change," Sarge said, "From here the cannon has a better angle on rockets and such coming at it from any direction."
"I am going to die," Grim muttered.
"Why is that," RuGaard asked.
"Who do you think he is going to have fly this thing," Grif said.
"Good point," RuGaard agreed as he grabbed one of the legs, to hold onto the belly of the Pelican, "Okay weld it in. Hey Ace?"
"Yeah," Ace said.
"You're right this is pretty entertaining," RuGaard admitted as Sarge scampered around with a welding torch.
"Told you," Ace said, "Soon I'll graduate you to Ruby, that girl really knows how to make some stuff and with Scooter helping her... the two of them are a match for Cortana in building prowess."
"DC does seem to gather builders doesn't it," Nilrasha said.
"And fighters," Grif said.
"Or eaters," Doughnut added, "Am I right guys?"
"Look food and me we have a thing," Grif stated.
"So DC has builders, fighters and you guys," RuGaard said, "The best of both with a sense of humor."
"Well you have to stay sane somehow," Simmons said, "We just laugh it off, or we complain about it until it is not a problem anymore."
"Hrrr... okay that will do it," Sarge said as he hopped off the Pelican, "Flip her back up right."
"Oh this should be good," RuGaard remarked as he Ace and Nilrasha got in position, "and now." The Pelican was righted with minimal banging against the wall, and the floor and any loose objects that were around. "There she sits. Sarge we should test this thing as soon as we can with DC readying up to revisit all the places they've been I'm sure that our enemies will have developed some methods for fighting us."
"My thoughts exactly," Sarge said, "If we return to our old haunts we need some new tools."
"Ace," RuGaard said, "Lets go find us some rockets."
