Pony's POV
Even before I opened my eyes I knew I was in a hospital. The smell of anesthetic and bleach filled my nostrils and I could hear the steady beep of a heart monitor.
"Here we go again," I croaked.
A gentle hand touched my shoulder and I cracked open my eyelids, blinking at the bright light.
"Ponyboy, how are you feeling?" Angel asked.
She was sitting next to my bed, her hair matted around her face and her clothes caked with dried mud. She looked great.
"Oh just perfect," I grumbled, what happened?"
"Those socs cut you up something awful, you've been unconscious all night," Angel told me.
"How long have you been here?"
"Since they brought you in. Tab's here too, he just stepped out for some fresh air."
"I wish there was a way I could repay you guys for all you've done," I said.
A sly smile flashed across Angel's face and she leaned forward, twirling my long hair around her finger.
"You can repay me," she whispered.
I grinned and placed my hand on the back of her head, pulling her forward into a soft kiss. Just then the door opened and Tab walked in. When he saw us he cleared his throat and Angel and I broke the kiss.
"You're not trying anything with my innocent little sister, are ya Ponyboy?" he asked with a smirk.
Angel ran a hand through her hair and suppressed a half grin.
"I'm hardly innocent," she pointed out.
I smiled brightly. Weariness washed over me and I yawned. Angel turned back to me, running her fingers through my tangled hair.
"You get some sleep," she told me.
"You'll be here when I wake up?" I questioned.
"Count on it," she whispered into my ear.
I closed my eyes and drifted into a comfortable darkness.
I came around to someone shaking my shoulder. My eyes flickered open and I blinked to clear away the fog that clouded my vision. Angel stood above me, her head cocked to the side.
"What is it?" I asked.
"There's someone here to see you," she told me.
I furrowed my brow. There must be a mistake; I didn't know anyone besides Tab, Angel and the gang.
"Who is it?" I demanded.
"The nurse said it was a couple of guys named Darryl and Sodapop Curtis," Angel answered.
