Rory had spent the last week planning her daughters birthday party, it had taken a while to convince Taylor to allow them to set a marquee up in the town square and it had been hard keeping the plans secret from the very clever and inquisitive Rose. It was two days before and Mitchum was in charge of keeping Rose busy, she had been staying with Shira and Mitchum periodically for at least a year a couple of weekends a month and Logan and Rory were both initially wary of the arrangement but when Rose kept coming home to either of her parents with no complaints and her parents could see nothing wrong so they allowed it to continue.

Mitchum and Shira's Home

Rose was sat in a chair reading a book and Mitchum was having a hard time concentrating on reading his newspaper as Rose was muttering to herself and t'sking under her breath,

"Rose, is something wrong?" Mitchum asked

"This book is really silly Pops" Mitchum chuckled on the indignation on Rose's face.

"Why is that?" Mitchum asked,

"Well this book is about a witch who has a broom, and she has all these animals that want to ride on her broom and she is trying to fit them all on at once, she is very silly Pops"

"Well it is a story Rose, its meant to be amusing" Mitchum tried to explain, but Rose still looked annoyed, "well I think it gets better in the end" Rose sat down and Mitchum watched as she kept muttering some more until finally she burst into laughter and put the book down.

"You were right Pops, it does get better in the end"

Shira appeared in the room and informed the pair that it was time for bed, Rose made her way to her room and got ready for bed, she laid in bed waiting for her Grand-Parents to come and say goodnight, it didn't take long for them to come and Rose quickly fell asleep.

The night at the Huntzberger's mansion was peaceful until early morning when Mitchum was awakened by a frantic knocking on his front door by Lorelai Gilmore, rushing downstairs in his robe he opened the door but didn't have time to ask what was going on when Lorelai rushed in and pushed past him, running upstairs she began to open several doors and look inside, Mitchum caught up with her half way along the corridor,

"Lorelai, what is going on?"

"Where is Rose" she almost screamed,

"Third room on the left" Mitchum answered and followed the overwrought woman, she dropped to her knees next to Rose's bed and began to sob whilst running her hands through the sleeping girls hair, Mitchum pulled her to her feet and guided her out of the room on a quest to figure out what had caused the almost unperturbed in the face of stress Lorelai,

"Lorelai, please explain, you are scaring me"

"Rory... Missing... Logan... Hospital... needed to see baby" Mitchum managed to decipher a few words from in between the panicked sobs. Guiding her down the stairs her made her sit in the lounge and helped her calm with coaching her through breathing exercises.

"Luke went to the diner this morning to open up, he had early deliveries to sign for so he set of before 5 am, when he got there the diner had been broken into and he went to see if Rory was OK and the apartment was ransacked, he found Logan unconscious and Rory wasn't there, Logan has been taken to the hospital, I'm sorry I didn't tell you straight away, I had to check Rose was safe and nothing had happened to her as well, I may have lost one of my babies I cant lose another." Lorelai seemed to have calmed enough to explain the situation.

"I would like to take Rose with me" Lorelai stated,

"Won't she be safer here than in Starshollow" Shira had made everyone aware of her presence with the very condescending comment.

"I won't be staying in Starshollow I am staying with my parents" Lorelai stated very matter-of-factly before scooping a sleepy Rose out of Shira's arms.

"I think that's a good idea..."Mitchum started,

"But Mitchum" Shira whined like a small child, Lorelai would have made a comment if it weren't such a horrible time,

"...as we will be at the hospital a lot with Logan," Mitchum finished, "Please let us know if there is anything we can do Lorelai, and keep us abreast of Rory's safety and whereabouts" Lorelai left the Huntzberger house and quickly drove to her parents who were already aware of the situation as Luke had gone on ahead of her in his truck.
