Drabble:114
There was a custom at Court, for testing the guardians' resilience. Once every few months, when off-duty, a court guardian's apartment would be barged upon by a group of two/three guardians and the guardian-being-tested would have to fight to either win against his assailants or at least bodily harm them enough to satisfy Hans. It was either that or enduring a week's worth of drilling lessons with Guardian Owen, who was a sadistic-son-of-a-gun and enjoyed doling out punishments.
While Rose attended Lehigh, Dimitri had been tested a number of times in their apartment, alone, and he'd come out the victor in every of his attacks. No one in their right minds wanted to attack Hathaway and Belikov on the weekends and days that Rose actually spent at Court and in Dimitri's bed, because everyone was well aware of how amorous the couple was, thanks to a lot of neighbourly complains.
So, after Rose came back to Court and she and Dimitri took up their first apartment together, they were tested the very night they'd thrown a housewarming party. The other guardians had bargained that the couple would be too tired to engage in ardent activities and being exhausted, would probably be caught off-guard (and wanting to win just one goddamned fight against Belikov), a group of seven guardians had burst through the very rooms where they had partied a couple of hours ago. Boy, were their assumptions wrong…
The first two guardians into the couple's bedroom had halted and screamed in such high-pitched voices that the rest of the group (very wisely) decided to remain outside. Because, on the king-sized bed that Rose had bragged that Dimitri assembled in under two minutes, Rose and Dimitri were-mostly sans clothes-definitely participating in amorous activities. After glaring murderously at his colleagues who were staring wide-eyed at the bed, at him, and at her, Dimitri (who'd still been in his boxers) had covered Rose up with the sheets and advanced towards the two men.
After threatening them to an inch of their lives, Dimitri had thrown both men out of his bedroom, threatened the rest of the entourage (quite civilly) and then, barred the bedroom-door and returned to bed. The embarrassed and petrified guardians had hastened to HQ, and informed Hans they'd never ever return to the couple's rooms without permission again.
The next group that'd assailed the couple was pummeled single-handedly by Dimitri alone, while Rose sat on the bed, clinically watching the fight and-at intervals-suggesting techniques to her boyfriend. They'd returned to Hans, like dogs-with-their-tails-between-their-legs and reported. When Hans grilled Hathaway about her non-participation, she'd straight-facedly told him that her hands were tied…..literally. Unwilling to know any more of their nightly activities and unable to find anymore guardians who'd be willing to take on the couple even in numbers exceeding 8, Hans had let Belikov and Hathaway be...
….Until Rose got pregnant, heavily pregnant, and Hans decided to accompany the latest group into the couple's bedroom, wanting to see how Dimitri would fare with fighting 8 guardians while protecting his wife and unborn-child. They'd barged into the bedroom and awakened Rose, who'd torn them to pieces with her acerbic tongue for inflaming her headache and promptly puked all over Hans because his cologne offended her olfactory senses. Dimitri had coaxed Rose back to bed before escorting the cowed entourage out of the house, where he had them-very politely-know that he'd slit their throats if they dared disturb Rose or stress her again while she was pregnant. And then he'd slammed the door on their faces (muttering an apology to Hans and throwing a paper-roll at him) and scurried back to the bedroom to rub Rose's shoulders and ease her to sleep.
The next attack didn't occur for another half-year, until Rose came off her maternity leave and was back on active duty. This time when the guardians barged onto the couple's bedroom, they'd found Dimitri snoring in the centre of the bed, cocooned protectively around his baby. Baby Belikov, who apparently had the stealth-detection of his dad and the lungs of his mom, had woken up and immediately started bawling. Dimitri woke up, barely aware of what was happening and rushed to soothe his baby-boy, but before the guardians could take advantage of this, Rose had come in from the bathroom (abandoning her first-leisurely-bath-in-days), appraised the scene at one go and began barraging the guardian with caustic threats and shoes from her closets. The guardians had returned to Hans bearing multiple bruises and mental scars. And vowed that they'd rather go on Strigoi raids than suffer the wrath of Belikov or his wife again.
And that's how raids on the Belikov household had stopped, never to happen again.
This drabble was supposed to stream in a different direction, but this piece refused to be unsaid, so I hope you enjoyed reading it. If you're unsatisfied with the bed reference, let me know and I'll try to cook something else up.
And FantasyAddict24…well played grasshopper, well played. Your wish is my command :p
