N.A.- just wanted to say that I am still here. Sorry for not updating for almost two months this was my hardest semester, and work was taking a lot out of me as well. With the crazy college load I also had bad writers block. I hope that you like this chapter.
N.A 2- thank your for everyone has who followed, favorited, and reviewed. Please more reviews. Send me suggestions and let me know what you want to see. The trial will be coming up soon. Just let me know if you want to see something.
N.A.3- is okay that I am not real following Shakespeare play? In the up coming chapters I am going to start pulling more elements from the play into the story.
Chapter 13
Enjolras followed Éponine up the stairs to her small apartment up above the Musian.
This was the first Enjolras had ever been in Éponine's apartment. Enjolras noticed the family had an old sofa, TV, a few arms chairs, with a coffee table filled with magazines and books on top. Next to the family was a small kitchen that had a few chairs and a table, where the family most likely ate their meals together. Past the kitchen was a small hallway with a bathroom, and four bedrooms. Enjolras saw two beds in one room that most likely belonged to Peter and Jacques, the next bedroom appeared to be Gavroche's room since it was a mess and the blue bedding with rocket ships sheets was a dead give away. There were two rooms on the opposite side of the hallway. The one room was most likely Alzema's but he could not be sure since the door was closed. Next to Alzema's room was Éponine's room with a few furnishings.
Enjolras stopped in front of Éponine's doorway lost in thought. Enjolras could not but help be impressed by all of Éponine's hard work. She has been working to help give her siblings a better life, and she was definitely doing a good job. It just angered him that her parents did not care about their children, but then again its not like this father cared about him.
"Enjolras" said Éponine. She looked sad and shaken. Éponine kept pacing up and the down her bedroom, as Enjolras leaned against her doorframe. In the two months that Enjolras had known Éponine he had never seen her this upset. He knew that she had every right to be upset it just angered him that it was either her parents or his father that were the cause of it. Enjolras felt his face getting red with anger as he thought about the whole ordeal.
"Yes! Sorry Éponine. I zoned out." Said Enjolras.
"What do I do? I can take care of myself, and avoid the gun fighting. I have done that all my life, but Peter, and Jacques are little boys and so is Gavorche. And Alzema has gotten so comfortable lately, I am afraid that she has lost all of her street smarts." Said Éponine crying.
"Éponine, the boys don't need to worry about watching bullets. I am going to call Lamarque in the morning. I am going to make sure he orders all of you to have security around all of you at all times. I am sure that Javert will agree me. I would not be surprised if Javert has not called Lamarque about this whole ordeal yet." Said Enjolras.
"What about you?" asked Éponine? "Javert said that they might be men after you as well."
"Don't worry about me." Said Enjolras. "I can protect myself."
"You can protect yourself without police protection, but I can't!" yelled Éponine. "Just because you want to lead a revolution does not mean that you are invincible."
"I know you can protect yourself. That's not what I am trying to say. At the very least we need to get police protection for the boys and Alzema." Said Enjolras. He hoped that would calm Éponine down.
"I know what you meant. Sorry I snapped. I just hate being a target, when I didn't to do anything wrong." Said Éponine.
Éponine finally stopped pacing up and down and sat down on her bed. Éponine took a deep breath.
Enjolras knew that he was not great with women, but he knew that had to do something to keep her calm. Enjolras started to walk towards her and sat down next to Éponine.
Éponine then leaned into his shoulder as she muttered "thank you." Enjolras felt his skin burn with a fire only Éponine could ignite. Enjolras knew that from the moment he saw Éponine two months ago that his life would be different, and he knew that he had feelings for her that logic could explain. Then once Enjolras kissed her that first night, if there was a logic left behind his feelings for her went right out the window.
"You don't need to thank me for anything" said Enjolras as he placed one hand over Éponine's hand, and his other hand over her cheek wiping away the tears.
Enjolras chad not kissed Éponine since that the first night, and he wanted to. He felt like he was turning into Jean with all this lovely-dubby stuff set in the background of a city on the verge of tearing itself apart from the trial.
In the weeks leading up to the trial there have been protest and fights breaking out. Many of the elite members of Parisian society were outraged that the police accused his father to working with the Thenardier gang, what the upper class would call the "weaklings of the street." Then others were saying that the Thenardier's were a representation of what happens when the poor are not given the same opportunities. Enjolras knew that the statements about the Thenardier's were not true based on the limited information Éponine has told him about her family, but its not likely the media would take that into consideration when reporting on the trial.
"Yes I do," said Éponine. "You have not judge me because of my past, and either has anyone in Les Amis, or Cossette, or Musichetta. I cannot thank you enough for that. You listen to all of Gavroche's ranting about conspiracies theories surrounding the government. If work gets busy and I go and help Musichetta to pick up extra money you make sure that Peter and Jacques do their homework. Most people would hit the hills when they meet someone like me."
"Éponine you are not the only one with a past, we all have one, and some of us are not proud of our past either. And besides helping Peter and Jacques with homework is not hard, they normally only have to write a sentence, and color a picture." Said Enjolras
The last part caused Éponine to laugh. Enjolras could not help but think how beautiful Éponine looked when she laughed.
"Listen to me" said Enjolras. Enjolras shifted their bodies so that Enjolras would be able to look her right in the eyes.
"I am here for you. No matter. The last couple months have meant a lot to me. I am not a romantic like Jean, but I care about you, and I have been crazy over the heels in love with you from the first moment I looked into your eyes. I know it makes no sense but I am going to stand by you no matter what. You and me for whatever reason were meant to go through this whole ordeal together. I hate my father more than anything else in this world, and I know that you cannot stand your parents, but in a strange way I am grateful that they were working together even if they were committing crimes." Said Enjolras.
"Enjolras. Do you hear what your saying. Are you sure that you didn't hit your head with the gunshots went off? Why would you be happy that our parents committed crimes? Wait you love me?" asked a very confused Éponine.
"Because it was not for their crimes I may not have meet you. And you are the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. I know we never talked about what this is between us, but I care about you Éponine. I loved you the second I looked into your eyes. I felt your soul pierce my soul and mind like the daggers that killed Juliet and the poison that killed Romeo. I know that they died in Shakespeare play but when I am with you make me feel like I rise up from anything, like a phoenix that cannot die." Said a breathless Enjolras.
Enjolras looked at Éponine. She looked like brick had hit her. And that's when Enjolras realized that he just told her that he loved her and then he went on a Shakespeare rant. Crap! Did he really just said that they loved her? Hopefully he did not scare her. He has been afraid to kiss her again and yet he tells her that the loves her. If Enjolras had not driven her away before with his insanity, he diffidently did it now.
Enjolras was about to apologize for his rant when he felt Éponine's lips on his lips.
"I know what you are thinking. Don't apologize for anything," said Éponine. She kissed him again for a minute.
Enjolras allowed his lips to dance next to hers. She opened his month up to him, as his tongue entered her month. His arms snaked around her waist pulling her down so they were both lying on the bed.
After a few moments of making-out Éponine pulled away, much to Enjolras disappointment.
"I love you too Romeo" said Éponine with a bright smile.
"Love you Juliet," said Enjolras as he kissed the top of Éponine's forehead.
"Come on. I need to go pick up the boys. Come with me and we talk about things later." Said Éponine as she took Enjolras hand and pulled him off the bed.
"Okay." Said Enjolras as he walked out of the room still holding Éponine's hand.
The two walked downstairs hand in hand. The café was still empty expect for the Les Amis, and it would most likely stay that way until tomorrow night.
Enjolras could not help but think that despite the shooting, and the up coming trial, that all of the pain and anger will be worth in it end if he had Éponine. After all he told her he loved her. He could not help but that think his mom would like Éponine.
Enjolras knew that when this whole ordeal was over that life would get better.
