Slowly but surely, Ruby's eyes began to flutter open.
Ruby felt the light reach her eyes, temporary blinding her. The anesthetic and pain medication was starting to wear off. Soon, Ruby was able to open her eyes fully and take in her room. Suddenly, pain flared from her left shoulder and she winched and hissed quietly.
'What in the?' Ruby though as she looked at the shoulder. It was wrapped in the thick layer of bandages and continued till they reached her elbow. It was then she noticed her combat uniform was nicely folded on the night stand on the right side of the bed. A large hole was visible on the left side, the edges stained with dried blood. Her cape seemed fine though.
The attack. Memories of the night before began to flood and fill her memory. She remembered the smell of her own blood in the air, how it smelled bitter. The pain, almost unbearable. She remembered how she begged Weiss for the pain to stop. It was in the thick of those memories; she put both of her hands on either side of her temples. Her head was starting to hurt. She also looked at the time.
9:30 A.M.
It was at that moment the door to her room opened and she straightened herself up. She figured that since it was visiting hours, her team or better yet Weiss would've come to see her. Her hope somewhat faded when a doctor entered her room carrying a clip board.
"Ah, Miss Rose, you're awake. Sleep well?"
"Well, I am hurting in the shoulder so you tell me." Ruby replied.
"Miss Rose, I am quite surprised."
"Why?"
"You seem to make a quick and speedy recovery. This is odd, seeing how what attacked you last night bit right through your aura."
Bit right through her aura? Ruby had to think. What kind of Grimm would be able to do that? She knew that Beowolves and Ursi were incapable of doing that feat, but what attacked her last night clearly was not any type of Grimm she had ever seen. Today and last night was clearly a day of firsts.
"Because of your recovery, you should be able to get out of the hospital by tomorrow evening." The doctor finished.
Ruby was relived. Soon, she would be back at Beacon, taking the fight back to the Grimm. However, a sight at the foot of her bed caused her to release a started gasp.
Sitting at the foot of her bed on a wooden chair, sleeping, was Weiss. Weiss was in different clothes than the ones she wore last night. She wore a pale blue long sleeve T-shirt with black pants. She was also wearing her trademark high-heeled boots. Weiss' hair was not held up in her ponytail; rather her hair cascaded down her shoulders. Ruby liked it when Weiss let her hair down, she looked more elegant.
"Weiss?" Ruby asked.
The doctor then looked and smiled.
"Ah yes, Weiss. When you were moved into your room, Weiss convinced us for her to stay past visiting hours. She has not left your side since then."
"How did she convince you?"
"I…" The doctor stammered, his face became a mask of confusion, as if he were trying to find the answer but it constantly evaded him. "I can't seem to remember." Then, he smiled again, as if he forgot the issue.
"Anyway, we had just received a call from your other teammates, they will be her shortly."
"Thanks." Ruby thanked the doctor as he left.
When the door closed, Ruby felt herself blush as she looked down back at Weiss. The thought that Weiss stayed with her all night was just like when Ruby did it for her when she was in the hospital.
Just then, Weiss eyes began to flutter open.
Ruby then pulled herself straight yet again as Weiss began to sit up.
"Hey…. Weiss." Ruby said stammered a little.
Weiss' face did not change. Then she spoke.
"Ruby Rose. What on earth were you thinking?!" Weiss raised her voice. Ruby never liked it when she raised her voice. Yang once joked she could scare a Deathstalker away by just giving it a good scolding.
"You could've gotten yourself killed last night! We should've called Yang and Blake for backup!"
Ruby turned away, slightly ashamed of her actions in the square last night. Weiss was right; she could've gotten herself killed.
"But…"
Ruby turned back around.
"I'm just glad your okay." Weiss finished. Weiss was an enigma alright. She could be angry one minute and the next minute, she would be trying to hug you and make for feel as comfortable as possible.
"Hey Weiss."
"Yeah?"
"Before we fought that thing last night, you said you wanted to talk to me about something. What was it?"
Weiss pursed her lips, as if it were a sensitive subject. Ruby also noticed that Weiss was not looking to good herself. Her eyes had large bags underneath them and her skin was much more pale than usual.
"It was about the kiss you gave me."
Ruby faced turned as red as her cape.
"When you were in surgery last night, I had a while to think about it. You can childish and immature some times. But I can see you are improving and you care about others. You would even be willing to sacrifice your own life in order to protect your teammates."
"What are you saying?"
"I am saying that you're an amazing person and I…I…" Weiss did not finish her sentence as she grabbed Ruby by the collar of her hospital gown and kissed. Not a kiss on the cheek. This was a proper kiss on the lips.
Ruby's mind was immediately woken up if it was still drowsy from the medicine.
'OhmygoshohmygoshohmygoshWeissis kissingme!' Ruby's brain went into overdrive.
So, Ruby decided to do the only natural thing that came to her.
She kissed Weiss back.
The kiss seemed as if it would go on forever. A bomb could go off and it wouldn't have spoiled the moment. In reality, they kissed for only fifteen seconds before they separated. Both of their hearts was beating rapidly and their faces were a deep crimson.
"It means I love you, Ruby…" Weiss finally finished.
"I love you too… Weiss."
The two continued to gaze into each other's eyes. The peace was nice. But it certainly did not last.
"Well, well, well, my baby sister finally got some!"
"Wow Weiss, I never thought of you to be a kisser."
Both the Red and White girls turned around to see Blake and Yang standing in the doorway, their faces beaming with large smiles.
"Hey s…sis." Ruby stammered.
"How long have you been standing there?" Weiss said, her voice dangerously low.
"Well, we walked in when the two of you were kissing. Man, I wish I brought a camera."
Ruby looked at Weiss, how looked like she was about ready to kill the Black and Yellow pair.
Elsewhere….
This was bothering. Really bothering. The man over looked Vale as he contemplated the events that transpired the night before. He remembered everything. All the innocents he killed and that one girl he bit. However, none of that bothered him. What troubled him was a girl in white with a rapier sword that tried to stop him. She smelled of…
"Vampire. I must report back at once."
The Alpha then sped off, back to his master, to tell him of this disturbing development.
A/N: Duh,Duh, DUH! Cliffhanger! Well, I put out a chapter before Friday; I think I need a medal for that. But seriously, this was a somewhat hard chapter to write.
Before you ask, Weiss was able to stay at the hospital by hypnotizing the doctors and convincing them to let her stay by Ruby.
Next Chapter: The girls discuss some topics that had just come to light.
