Ruby made her way to the combat arena, facing Cardin.
She quickly glanced back at her team in the stands. Weiss gave her two thumbs up.
"Go Ruby! Kick his butt to the curb." Yang yelled.
Blake was waving that small custom flag with the team's name imprinted on it.
Ruby smiled. She could also rely on them for a quick boost. She then turned back to her foe. Cardin was just standing there, holding his mace on his shoulders and giving off a small, sarcastic smirk while doing so.
"Ready to go, pick squeak?" The bully called out to her. Ruby was never a target for Cardin's bullying, though he called everyone names. Ruby replied by simply gripping her weapon harder than before. Her anger at a boiling point.
"Let the match…begin!" Glynda called out.
When the bell rang, Ruby sped towards her foe, covering most of the arena floor within only a matter of seconds. Cardin also began to run towards her, his mace dragging the ground in hopes of intimidating her. They met in the middle of the arena where both of their weapons clashed. Both the metal on the scythe and mace rang out as they collided several times. Ruby went for a wide sweeping arc, which Cardin dodged with ease. Despite his size, he could move pretty quickly.
At that moment, Ruby allowed Cardin to rush her. He lifted his mace above his head and brought it down to the ground, Ruby just barely dodging the attack. She quickly moved around her opponent attempting to look for an opening. This continued for several minutes. Ruby figured that she could play a game of cat and mouse, hoping to frustrate him to expose an opening. However, Cardin eventually caught on and formulated a quick way to win.
In a single foolish moment when Ruby did not activate her semblance, Cardin stepped on her cape, impeding the young girl's movements. Ruby tried to move, but to no avail. Cardin swung his mace into Ruby's back. Fortunately, Ruby avoided serious injury by activating her aura. But the force of the attack sent her flying. She landed only a few feet from Cardin. Crescent Rose laded just inches from her reach, only for the bully to kick it away.
"What's wrong little red? All tuckered out? Do you want me to get a blankey and tuck you in?" He asked in a mock baby voice. Ruby had been disarmed and Cardin had brought on foot on her chest. "Face it red. It's over."
The words seemed to jar Ruby from her stupor. No, she could not lose to Cardin of all people.
"It's not over." She simply said.
Angered, Cardin lifted his mace above his head and was ready to bring it down on her. Everyone watched with waited breath. Weiss had to restrain herself from just jumping in and attacking the bully right then and there. However, just as Glynda was about to call the match, something happened that no one expected.
Ruby had brought one of her arms up, grabbing Cardin's mace from his hands. Everyone was shocked. Then, Ruby brought both legs up and kicked Cardin square in the chest sending him flying. He landed straight on his rear end as Ruby got back up and stood on her feet.
"You little bitch!" Cardin roared as he rushed for her.
Ruby felt an unnatural sense of anger fill her up. She was going to make Cardin pay for what he did to his earlier opponent. Instead of running to her weapon, Ruby ran straight for the bully and did something that no one expected.
She punched Cardin square in the cheek.
This was no ordinary punch, either. It drew blood from his lips. Everyone was shocked, even Glynda's normally neutral expression changed to one of shocked. All Ruby did was smile which seemed odd. It was like there as a part of her that enjoyed it.
When she moved back from the bully, Cardin stood there, groping his lip in shock. Ruby walked over and picked up her scythe. She smiled as she charged him. Soon, Cardin's smile and smug looks was replaced by a fearful expression. Ruby let at an angry war cry as she noticed things have changed around her. Her vision narrowed on her target and it also brightened. Shooting the gun part of her weapon, she propelled herself forward as she kicked him in the center of his back. Cardin of course landed face down. Ruby stood over the now barely conscious body of her opponent.
"The winner…is Ruby Rose." Glynda said, startled at how aggressive Ruby was fighting. She had seen the young girl in a combat scenario before, but never imagined she would be that overly aggressive.
Ruby panted heavily as she watched Cardin limping towards his concerned teammates. Ruby also noticed her adrenaline fading from the fighting. Suddenly, she felt light-headed and her shoulder began to ache. Soon, sounds became too loud for her to hear as she grabbed her head and held it.
"Ruby? Ruby, are you okay?" A voice of concern pulled her back into reality.
Yang had her hand outstretched and about to grab Ruby's shoulder when the young girl took off running for the dorm.
"What's wrong with her?" Blake asked as Weiss looked at where Ruby had been with concern.
Ruby soon arrived back at the dorm room before anyone else. Quickly she went over to the dresser where the pills were being kept as she popped one in her mouth and swallowed with the help of some water, courtesy of the sink. Her breathing was hard and quick than before. She looked up into the mirror and just about screamed. Of course, Ruby's reflection was staring back at her, but it was different than before. Her eyes were green, a beautiful emerald green and not sliver. She also noticed that her canine teeth in her mouth were sharper and looked like they were fashioned into points. Ruby quickly put her hands under the water and scrubbed her face off. When she looked back into the mirror, she was completely fine. The headache was gone and the pain from her shoulder was no longer there. All she had to say was…
"What just happened?"
A/N: Nothing like writing a chapter where Cardin gets his ass handed to him by a fifteen year old girl. In case you did not know, this was merely a preview of what our little red protagonist is in for. I will tell you this though. The wolf is coming.
