"And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's meant to be broken
I just want you to know who I am"
They only got a few hour of sleep before Tom appeared, waking them up the worst way possible, throwing a bucket of cold water on them.
- Come on, damn it! – Sawyer shouted with his alpha male voice.
Kate woke up like she was drowning and finally caught some air, she took a deep breath as she sat on the bench she was lying on, Sawyer looked at her, rubbing her back with his palm:
- Freckles, are you alright?
But before she could answer, a hard and loud sound took their attention, it was two of the "others" opening Hurley's cage and grabbing his arms, taking him outside. James let Kate go and got up, walking to the end of his cage, sliding his hands outside and saying:
- What are you doing to him? What are you gonna do to him?!
The two men looked back and malefically smiled, provoking Sawyer into hitting and kicking the bars of his cage. Hugo didn't resist, he closed his eyes tight before looking back and saying:
- Kate, I'm so sorry for Jack, you deserve better than this, Sawyer revenge won't get you anywhere- James interrupted him
- This isn't goodbye, Montezuma… - he stopped talking when Hurley disappeared into the jungle, he frowned his forehead, looking down and once again smashing his hand on the bars of his filthy cage.
Kate walked a few steps trying to get to his beloved "friend", she put her open hand on his shoulder, taking another step and hugging him from behind, pressing her cheek against his back, he shed a tear and got even more angry. He hated crying, he felt like he was trying to get attention, trying to get people to pity him, but that's the last thing he wanted. They both missed the beach, they hadn't been there for more than a few hours but it felt like an eternity and they were full of that, of those people simply capturing them whenever suited them, it wasn't fair. Sawyer tried to tell himself there was nothing he could do, but that was just an excuse so he wouldn't have to save the day. Sometimes he envied Jack, for all the love and politeness he'd get from the other survivors, but other times he would just not give a fuck and want everyone to vanish so he could be alone for a while.
They hugged each other for a few minutes, in that same position, it was comfortable, more than that, Kate felt safe in Sawyer's arms, even thought she knew he was a bit moody and sometimes wanted to kill everybody, she liked him, and he liked her, but it's not like they were in the best place or time to be starting a new relationship, plus, she still missed Jack sometimes. It was all so sudden, she didn't even have time to get used to the situation, or say goodbye, he was there one moment and gone the next. It didn't help that he was the spinal surgeon/survivor/hero among the frightened population of The Island. Suddenly, James made his way out of Kate's hug and turned, looking into her eyes:
- I can't do this anymore… - he sighed.
- Me ether… - she smiled at the end, but when she saw he wasn't responding, she let go of it.
They knew there was no good on lying to each other or pretending they were fine, form now on they were going to be honest to each other, at least for the rest of the little time they might have together, all they knew was that Hurley was taken somewhere and it wasn't somewhere very nice.
