Drabble:153
At first, Hans had tried to keep Belikov and Hathaway separated. He didn't want their personal life interfering with his office. And he was skeptical about how long a dhampir-dhampir relationship could last, so he kept them separate, just in case. He assigned them different tasks, different departments, and made them work to prove themselves as deserving members of the Court guardian contingency. And they did, the both of them.
While Belikov was more exemplary and had a logical outlook on events, Hathaway had a shorter fuse on her temper and poor impulse control. But, she was more extroverted and had a way of worming herself into your heart, whereas Belikov could be standoffish and made other guardians wary sometimes.
But, in the field and in combat practice, they were lethal, and dependable. Unless of course they faced off in practice or trained together-like they did frequently-then it got real uncomfortable for bywatchers, because their 'training' looked a lot like foreplay, and their sexual tension became almost tangible.
But in spite of being put on separate tasks or schedules, Hans observed that Belikov and Hathaway spent almost their entire free time (and most mealtimes) glued together. If Dimitri finished his work earlier, he would stick around and help others, but as soon as his shift officially ended, he'd go to wherever his girlfriend was-immediately. If Rose-by some miracle-completed her work early, she'd appear wherever Dimitri was stuck and would stay with him (and charm his colleagues) till they were both free to leave, and then the couple would walk home together, hand in hand.
After some time, (when Rose and Dimitri showed no sign of bailing on one another) Hans decided to place the two together, starting with training and shared office space. Dimitri was already helping to train younger guardians and a lot of the female ones looked upto Rose, so Hans thought why not? And boy, was he glad that he did!
The duo worked in perfect sync, and brought out the best on one another. Dimitri became more amicable, and Rose less impulsive (and also less potty-mouthed). Their shared training session (while still not free of their sexual tension) became a huge hit with other court guardians (and a gambling activity). Because of the disparity in their body structures and the similarity of their fighting styles and shared history, their fights were always fun to watch…and educational too!
And whenever they were part of the same strike force, their fighting was a thing of beauty. When they planned raids together, Rose's wacky (and sometimes brilliant) ideas were made more level-headed (and in Hans' opinion, idiot-proof) by Dimitri's contribution. And their results were hardly dissatisfactory.
Hans sometimes even got them doing the most dangerous-sometimes improbable-missions together, and more often than not, they came back unscathed, and stronger from the experience.
He didn't know why they kept on taking crazy chances…or maybe he did-Dimitri had made it his life's mission to save as many people as he could, after his stint as a strigoi; as for Rose, she…was just crazy. But what Hans knew for sure was that the two gelled so well together, and worked so in sync, that it was remarkable. Their trust and faith in one another was incredible, and so was their ability to communicate in little to no words, which included a creepy and infuriating habit of the duo completing each other's sentences.
So, Hans was more than satisfied with their performance together, and he admired their drive. But God help him, if he found them making out in the coffee-room (or the room, or the files rooms, or the emergency staircase) again, he was going to sit them down and yell at them for a good half an hour about professionalism. If that didn't work, well he was prepared.
He'd punish Rose by making her do filing. For an entire month. As for Dimitri, Hans would make the boy guard the sole milliner's shop in court, whose owner was a batty Moroi who liked chatting. About her cats and tea. All. Day. Long.
Thank you for reading, guys!
Hope you have a good day (or atleast better than what Dimitri and Rose would inevitably face here). :p
Cheers!
