Chapter 3: The Second Page

They had been running in endless circles now. Running even worse than their training menus in basketball practices.

Aomine had been leading them to nowhere for nearly 20 minutes and when his instincts told him that it was safe, he slowed down.

"What the hell?!" Kagami paused beside the Ace of Touo, "Tired already? He's still-"

"Not anymore." Aomine replied and stretched his back, "He ditched us,"

"How can you be so sure-ssu?!" Kise wailed, breathing heavily.

"Just a hunch," The tanned male looked back and saw the blackness and the trees. Then he realized, "Where's Tetsu?"

"No way!" Kagami roared as they all frantically looked around for the teal-hairedboy.

"Kagami-kun,"

"Holy sh- Kuroko don't disappear off like that! What if Slenderman really did get you?!" The redhead blurted out after his fake heartattack.

Kuroko slowly looked down, his guilty eyes overshadowed by his fringes, "I see... I'm sorry,"

The trio must've felt the mood in his voice and the tension died down. Kagami scratched the back of his head and looked away.

Kise was first to approach Kuroko and patted his back, "Just please give a sign Kurokocchi, so we'll know you're still here,"

Kuroko managed a faint smile and nodded, "Thank you, Kise-kun,"

Kise forced himself to calm down, 'No! Must not glomp Kurokocchi! I managed to say something cool to him so I should keep it up! Don't glomp!' He thought in a rather panic state.

"Damnit, so what now?" Aomine asked, a scowl present on his face, "If only we had a map... Where the hell is the cabin anyways?!"

"Do you think I'd be able to see through this night, Ahomine?!" Kagami gave his own scowl.

"Stop it-ssu! Fighting now won't get us anywhere!"

Kagami shot a glare at the blond, "Tell this guy to keep his trap shut before I do it instead!"

Aomine gave a low growl, but surprisingly, he didn't say anything else. He turned on his flashlight and looked around.

Kise sighed in relief and looked at Kuroko, "Where do you think we should go now?"

"I wouldn't know." Kuroko replied and pointed at Aomine, "But I think it's best to let the two decide our paths,"

"Huh? But why?"

"Their instincts are something. They probably trust it more than each other,"

Just then, Aomine looked at them, "Let's go this way,"

Kagami eyed on him suspiciously but still followed. While they were walking, Kise kept a distance behind Kuroko and Kagami, earning their questioning looks.

"I'm making sure Kurokocchi won't lag behind. Kagamicchi's too pissed to notice-ssu,"

"Wh-what'd you say-?!" Kagami was about to yell again, but Aomine grunted, cutting him off.

"Kise, leave them. Get over here." Said the tanned boy.

"But Aominecchi! Aren't you worried for Kurokocchi?"

"If Bakagami is smart enough, he'd watch over Tetsu without us telling," Aomine motioned his head for Kise and he obediently ran over to his side.

They continued walking with Kise and Aomine leading the Seirin duo. Kuroko had his head down the whole time, but his eyes flickered to Kagami once in a while. Luckily, Kagami's too focused on glaring at the tanned Ace to notice the looks from the phantom man.

"Aominecchi, what's that?" Kise pointed out, breaking the silence.

They looked to the right and saw something shining. It was somesort of board, and upon closer inspection, it was a car. A trucker.

It wasn't Kagami's van, to their dismay. They got closer to it, noticing another car behind it, and they stopped.

"Do you think they'll work?"

"Do you think a trucker with two wheels would get us out of here?"

Aomine rollef his eyes at Kagami and approached the backside of the trucker. He flahed around the two vehicles, a sudden dread creeping up to him when his flashlight stopped almost automatically on a note on the other vehicle's door.

"Shit..." He muttered.

The other three went behind him and eyed on the note.

"Who wants to get it?" Kuroko asked.

"Like hell anyone would!"

Kise looked back, "Just get it already before he comes! I'll keep watch-ssu,"

Kagami did the same with the blond and Aomine took the note. Kuroko peeped and read the note.

"Always watches; No eyes,"

"Don't repeat it Tetsu! It's like you're the same with him!" Aomine shuddered at the thought, earning a jab on the rib from the teal-haired boy.

"Let's go," Kuroko said and called for the other two.

Kise and Kagami turned and followed the two. But as they were walking away, Kagami felt as though something was pulling him from behind. It wasn't physical, but he still looked back.

There, amidst the darkness of the night and the trees, was the familiar figure of the terror they've been running away from all this time. Half was hiding behind a tree, but that still gave him all the more reason to yell.

He's been watching them.

"Run damnit!" He roared.

They didn't need to confirm why. Only the mere tone of Kagami's voice told them that he was serious. So damn serious.

They all sprinted to wherever Aomine was running. Nobody dared look back anymore, all the way until Aomine was confronted by a towering wire fence.

"Fuck! Of all the times!" He growled.

"K-Kagami-kun...!" A strained voice cut them off fom glaring daggers at the fence and looked back.

Kuroko was on his knees, both hands clutching on the nearby tree, and something was wrapped on his leg.

Something was pulling him.

"Shit! Kuroko!" Kagami ran towards his shadow but Aomine grabbed him back.

"He's baiting you!"

"The fuck do I care!" Kagami shook off the tanned male's hands and sprinted to Kuroko.

He needed only one hand to hold Kuroko's arm, and the other one tugged harshly on the tentacle-like thing on his leg. After a couple of tries, he managed to pull it off and he quickly collected the shadow in his arms and made a mad dash to where the other two were.

Kuroko was breathing harshly in Kagami's shoulder when he was put down. He lost consciousness during the painful struggle too. Kagami made sure to look back, seeing Slenderman nowhere before he let Kuroko rest against the wire fence.

"Ahomine you shitty bastard!" He roared and faced the ex-light.

Kise watched the two exchange painful words and deadly looks, his ears too occupied by his wild heartbeat to even register their words.

"You wouldn't even care to save Kuroko?! You piece of-"

"Don't you think you're going there without thinking?! What if you got caught too?"

"I'd get out with Kuroko ofcourse! But you wouldn't do the same now, would you?!"

"Ofcourse I would, Bakagami!"

Kagami growled and ran over to the tanned male, fist ready to strike. And when he did, it was the sight of yellow that caught him.

"Ki-Kise...?!" Kagami stuttered out as he stepped back, eyeing on the blond who was crumpled on the floor.

Aomine stared wide-eyed on his former teammate, shock and slight fear written on his face.

"Kise...?"

Kise got up, other cheek red from the impact before glaring daggers at both lights. Slight tears were on the corners of his eyes.

"Can't you stop this fighting already?! Can't you think of Kurokocchi's wellbeing and our survival?!" He yelled at them, voice wavering and cracking in trying to surpress the emotions welling up inside, "Is it too much to ask of you to suck up your stupid pride and work together for once in your fucking life?!"

Aomine and Kagami were taken back. Kise Ryouta, the childish blond ace of Kaijo, was yelling at them, cursing at them, and pounding some sense into their thick heads. Slowly, they realized the gravity of the situation.

"Uh... Y-yeah," Kagami rubbed the back of his head awkwardly and looked at Kuroko's unconscious form, "I'll um... Check on him..."

Aomine, bit his lip, suddenly feeling something well in his chest, throbbing. It was painful just by seeing Kise like that. Kise getting hurt because of them.

Because of him.

"K-Kise..." He breathed out, but was cut off when the said blond stood up.

Kise smiled forcefully, bitterly, as he waved his hand, "It's nothing serious-ssu. I'm just glad you guys realized it already,"

"... Yeah," Aomine couldn't say anything anymore no matter how badly some words want to come out of his mouth. He couldn't say it anymore because there was another emotion blocking it.

Was it... Fear?

Kagami broke the silence, "He's waking up,"

Kuroko looked up from his hands to Kagami, dread still in his usually motonone eyes, "I-is... Are you all okay..?"

"You should worry about yourself, idiot," Kagami huffed out and ruffled the soft locks of blue hair.

Kuroko let out a loud sigh, relaxing into the touch, "I'm sorry I nearly got in your way..."

"Like hell you would," His light replied with a reassuring smile, "So anyways, can you stand up?"

"Yes, I'm fine," Kuroko stood up and looked around, "So... Where now?"

The redhead huffed and crossed his arms, "Let Aomine decide,"

"If it's fine then we could get away from this fence and just go straight," Aomine pointed with his flashlight towards the darkness.

"Fine by me. And Kise?"

"Yes-ssu!"

Kagami led Kuroko to walk beside Kise as Aomine led the way again. Kuroko, even through the darkness of the night, saw something within Kise's eyes.

"Did... Something happen while I was passed out?" Asked the phantom.

"Huh? Oh, not really-ssu," Kise smiled, something at which Kuroko knows it was forced and hiding something.

"Don't mind it anymore," Kagami stated.

Kuroko nodded and just decided to follow. The air around the group just felt better, but at least he wants to know what made it that way.

Maybe, he could leave it that way for now.
