Chapter 4: The Inevitable Destiny, Part 3: Unchartered Road

Dear Neo,

Salutations.

How was your trip to Hoenn? I hope everything went well with your father's old business partner. I wish I could have gone too. I hear that place is very beautiful. They have these quaint houses in the treetops and a town floating in the middle of the sea. If you had seen them, I'm sure they were breath-taking.

Perhaps someday, I could also travel to such places, but my father won't permit me even though I shall be turning fifteen in a month. I do not know how long I will be living like this. I have never set foot outside of Lumiose City, let alone outside of Kalos region.

I have heard stories of ten-year olds journeying the across the world. They must have grand adventures every day, don't you agree? They are very fortunate unlike me. Perhaps, that is the burden of being the beloved only daughter of a noble.

Pardon me if I'm ranting again. Father only lets me associate with people within our level of society so I only have a few friends. I do not understand why he thinks that way. I see no difference between them and us. Truthfully, I envy them. Every time I stare out of the car, I see them having such fun. They are so free.

Do I sound depressing? I apologize.

My life is almost as if I were the typical captive princess in fairytales, huh? My father could be the fearsome Salamence. Please do not tell him I wrote that, otherwise he would start breathing fire. I'm simply teasing. He is not that bad, just a little overprotective. But did I make you laugh? If so, I'm glad.

Each time I write to you, I feel really calm. I am so fortunate to have someone like you. Thank you for reading my letter. Hope to hear from you soon. I shall be sending an invitation to my birthday in my next letter.

Take care of yourself until me meet again.

Sincerely,

F.L.

I folded up my letter and neatly placed it inside an envelope. After applying the family seal, I stared at the enclosed parchment and imagined Neo opening it with a smile. Ever since the day we met at a gala hosted by my father, we've became friends. He was the only person who was near my age, despite the fact that he is three years older than I am. It only goes to show how little my world is.

Neo resides in Kanto which I presume to be on the other side of the planet. Writing letters to each other was the best way for us to communicate. I find it better expressing my feeling through writing rather than speaking to him via phone or email, though those are ideal options.

"Milady, it seems you fancy this young nobleman," Whim teased, giggling as she brushed up my golden locks into a bun.

Willamina, or Whim as I fondly call her, is my personal maid. She's been with me ever since I was a child. She has short seafoam hair that framed her face and matching eyes. And like most of the female servants in the manor, she wears a blue and white maid uniform, but with a ribbon belt that has the same shade of her eyes and hair.

"It is not like that…" I replied calmly and sealed the envelope.

Truthfully, I'm not sure of my feelings for Neo. I barely know what the world outside is like. Let alone know what it truly means to have that certain someone in your heart. Things like those can't be found in any books, none that I've read at least. I sighed. It was as if I became one of the hopeless romantics in those novels.

If only my world was wider, then maybe I would understand. I could see and learn so much, meet new people and perhaps, person whom I will truly love. That is one of my dreams. Not the meet that person part, but the chance to widen my world.

My name is Faye Lin Azril. I reside in a manor located in the Kalos region along with my father, a prestigious noble, and the servants of the household. As the only child of my father, I lived a sheltered life. He treasured me like a fragile little princess. But I wonder if that is who I merely am or is that all I could ever be. All my life, I have lived within these city walls, whilst following his rules and authority.

"Shall I deliver your letter, milady?" Whim asked after she finished fixing my hair.

I curled a lock behind my ear and stood up to face her. With my perfected lady-like smile, I faced her and handed my letter for Neo. "Thank you very much, Whim."

"My pleasure." She curtseyed and left me in my room.

I turned about and gazed at my reflection on the mirror. The red highlights that accented my blonde hair were completely out of sight. My father never approved of me having them in the first place, but I was persistent in convincing him to let me keep them. That was by far the only order I refused to follow.

The reason is because they hold the memory of my elder sister. She has also colored highlights but in a different shade. She had them first but we decided that I should have them as well so we would appear more like sisters, since we don't look that much alike in the first place. The only similarity we have is our eye color which is aqua blue.

We lived together for a few years before our mother's death. After that, she had to return to her home region. I wished for her to stay by my side, but she wasn't allowed to live with me, for we were only half-sisters.

Father loved mother, even when he knew she already had a child. Growing up, I saw no hostility in him towards my elder sister. Nor did my sister say anything that would make me believe father hated her. I assume his love for mother was greater was the reason for that. But after her death, in my father's eyes, there was nothing linking my sister to us. She no longer belonged to the family. And father didn't like the idea of having someone like her, a child of another man, live under the same roof as him.

It was a sad parting for her and I, but there was absolutely nothing we could do. We were only children that must abide under the rule of adults like my father. We never saw each other again and I had idea no idea where she lived so I couldn't write to her. But I pray that one day our paths would cross once again. That is my other goal.

I took out a red dress with laces and accents from my closet and flung it over the bed. Father has visitors coming over and has asked me to join him in order to welcome them. As much as I disliked formalities especially in the simplest events, I had little option. It is part of being a nobleman's daughter.

I sat down and closed my eyes to imagine myself going out on a pokemon journey. It was my only escape in my enclosed world.

"What do you think, Isis?" I glanced over at my Fennekin who was comfortably positioned on my pillow. Simply, she flicked her large ears and yawned.

Isis was a gift from my father when I became ten. I wasn't permitted to go on a pokemon journey like the others who were my age but for the very least, I was to have my first pokemon. After almost five years, she has become accustomed to a life of luxury and comfort. Though I believe, somewhere in that little pampered body of hers is a fierce-hearted adventurer, just like all the eager starters in the world. Someday, I too, would go on a long journey to see the world, I have no thoughts of taking another pokemon, other than her. And I'm positive that she and I would be a perfect team.

I collected my partner in my arms and glanced out the window. "In one month's time…"

I made my resolve and I was going through with it, no matter what consequences may lie ahead. I will not be caged here forever. Even if it's just for a short while, I wish to set foot into the world, will all the excitement and uncertainties. All those I could only read in books. It wasn't the same. Dreams are different from reality.
