Rose had always enjoyed Halloween, which at St Vladimir's had meant horror movie marathons, marshmallow-toasting and drinking in the woods and dressing up in the most rule-challenging outfit she could manage.
While Liss and she were on the run, Halloween meant attending frat parties, where the male population would keep plying her with as much alcohol as she wanted, and Lissa being the voice of reason and dragging her away before she did something truly regrettable…..like bursting into her off-tune rendition of Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive', or worse…try rapping. She and Liss would then go home, and watch reruns of Friends till they fell asleep.
But now that Liss was queen, and she a guardian-a Royal guardian, Rose knew she couldn't participate in the debauchery. And being in such a healthy place in her life-what with Liss being settled and happy, and Rose going steady with Dimitri-she really didn't want to. So, while Lissa was obligated to attend the prestigious Badica Halloween bash at Court (and Christian-very reluctantly-forced/incentivized to go with her), Rose was delegated to patrol duty. Dimitri had gotten a rare night off and was holed up in their apartment, probably reading.
Now, the Badica-invitees-only-Halloween party was not only the biggest party of the night, but one of the most 'happening' events on Court, so the attendees showed up in their best costumes. Lissa had decided to make use of her flaxen hair and go as Elsa, but Christian had taken the lazy-route and decided to slick back his hair, put on a nice suit and go as Count Chocula (which would give him the liberty to drive people away by smiling creepily). But once they arrived, Liss saw a very puzzling thing...
While most people were dressed as celestial entities, supernatural creatures, or Disney characters (and in some cases, food), quite a few couples-mostly younger ones-had shown up wearing coordinated outfits, which looked…vaguely familiar.
The guy-members of said couples were wearing fake wigs and trench coats, and the females were dressed in ripped jeans and gym shirts with hair tied up. Or in some cases, some of the girls were wearing rip-off guardian uniforms and carrying Buffy-styled wooden stakes.
After talking to the fifth couple dressed in the aforementioned way, Lissa couldn't take it anymore. She outright asked 15 year old Dani Voda who she was dressed up as. The teenager, in response, became very sad that Lissa didn't recognize her, especially when she had taken such good care with her costume. Her far-less-melodramatic clip-on-ponytail-wearing boyfriend rolled his eyes and replied that they were supposed to be Guardians Belikov and Hathaway.
Lissa choked out 'What!' the same time Christian ventured 'Why?'. An agitated Dani burst out that it was because the guardian couple was badass, and her favorite OTP. Oh, and that Romitri rocked. Hearing the word 'Romitri', a few more Dimitri-and-Rose dress-alikes rushed up, and started ranting about how perfect and flawless Romitri was, and how the couple was their favorite 'ship'. A lot of 'totes' and 'OMGs' were thrown in, until someone had the brilliant idea to get photographed together with Lissa and Christian, the best friends of their heroes….
Making her rounds around the perimeter, Rose's phone buzzed suddenly. She ignored it for a couple of minutes, during which she shooed away a costumed Captain Hook and Barney the Dinosaur from making out (or worse) near the wards. But then, her phone pinged again, and again, and again, and Rose opened it to find 13 messages from Liss, the last one showing 'SOS'.
Curios, she scrolled up, and…stopped dead in her tracks. There were lots of details of Liss' 'discovery' at the bash, followed by a photo of awkwardly-smiling Liss and Chris surrounded by a random group of tweens, who were surreally enough dressed like her and Dimitri. And the caption of the photo? #shippingRomitri
Rose's reply? 'Wtf is happening? And btw, I'd never be caught dead in ripped jeans. Leggings are more my thing'
The next day, the departmental store at Court ran out of leggings, and Christian went on a cackling spree, giggling over 'Romitri'….right until they found that 'Chrisilisa' was also a thing, but that's another story for another day.
So, it's almost-Halloween and I was watching danisnotonfire on Youtube talk about fandoms, so my brain decided to equate that into this. Hope you enjoy, and Happy Halloween! Cheers!
