Chapter 2: Together at Last

~Deathbringer~

How did glory do it? She had left me in charge when she went to check on the progress of the new inter-tribe school. I believed her when she said that being queen was not a very glorious job, I had seen it, but this was insane. The rainwing tribe had changed from what it was before the war ended but there was always still the line of rainwings outside the door to the queen's hut waiting to complain about their problems. Unfortunately now there were nightwings to, and the queen wasn't here so I was stuck with the all to glorious job. And to add to that there was still tension between the nightwings and the rainwings, so I end up stopping fights almost every day.

Seriously, I have problems to (mostly with glory) but you don't see me here every day complaining. Mainly because I would never admit that out loud, bout you get the point. Anyway for about the 100th time I consider telling the rainwing in front of me to go and figure it out by him. But of course I don't, I just do what I've been doing all day, listening and saying things like ok, oh, yes, and my favorite, ill get right on that all, because glory asked me to.

Even with the more active society there is still no sense of urgency, something that glory hates, so naturally, I hate it to. That makes me wonder where she is, she had said she was supposed to be back a few days ago. Yesterday, however, I got a messenger saying that she had gotten held up at the Sandwing palace. A common instance, one that I hated. We haven't talked that much since the war ended, her duties are always getting in the way. I do like that she is queen and all but I just wished we had more time together, especially now since ive been thinking a lot about what our children would be like, and I want to know if she would like to find out.

I was thinking about this when a rainwing burst through the door yelling, "Help, help, there's a fight over by the training fields." So I, not nearly as quickly as he liked, sighed and got up from where I was sitting. As soon as I did he rushed out the entrance to the hut and quickly flew out of sight. You see, because of the lack of urgency some rainwings don't know about the fights, luckily that makes them easier for me to stop, but it makes them harder to find. I followed him as closely as I could but it didn't take long to lose him because of the damn rainwing camouflage. When I did finally find him he was already at the training field. That's when I saw that there was in fact a fight, and it was becoming vicious.

It was a good thing that the rainwings knew not to use their venom but with glory's training they had become quite skilled fighters. However, the nightwings had more training and with the fact that they were not starved anymore they had grown into their fighting style quite well. So, if you don't get the technical statistics of fights, the nightwings were winning, not by much but they were. I saw that the rainwings were getting angry and decided that the best way to end this was win, before the rainwings got angry enough to use venom. Now that would take a lot of explaining. Luckily because of my training as an assassin I knew I could beat all of them, but not without getting scratched up a bit.

Because of this I told the Nightwing nearest to me to get the medical dragon as I jumped into the fight. It was a three on three fight, just enough to limit my room to move, but not my chances of winning. I dove under the legs of one dragon unfolding my wings to pull his legs out from under him. The rainwing that had been trying to hit him hit me instead, leaving scratch marks on my face, but it was necessary. I dove under her legs and bit the sensitive part of her tail throwing her over my head. I jumped on the back of a second rainwing wrapping my tail around his leg slamming him into the rainwing next to him. The two nightwings that were still standing started to back away.

I made a motion towards them and they ran, so I turned back to the four dragons that were slowly getting up from the ground, some slower then others. I saw Fatespeaker running among them and looking at their wounds. "What did you do to them" she exclaimed. I smiled slightly and said, "they aren't hurt that bad, glory would have done worse. Besides you saw what I did to the last group," dodging her question. She didn't notice and nodded at this, having experienced Glory's temper and seen the wounds I commonly caused. After the medical dragon came I pulled her aside and asked, "are you ok, you weren't in the fight were you." She answered no but this made her start complaining about the society of the rainwing village.

The nightwings had recently been inducted into the village and were not yet fitting in to well. Of course it would have helped to have glory here but I wasn't one to complain. The next thing Fatespeaker asked was normal for her, "where is Starflight right now?" I told her he was in the still in the Sandwing palace helping sunny and thorn get settled in. She looked upset for a while then bounded off, saying something that wasn't normal "I'm going to go see him" she called over her shoulder. starflight had invited her to stay with him but glory had said that she had needed one on them with the rainwings to "watch me," still it wasn't like her to just run off.

Starflight had said he still needed to smooth things over with sunny as an excuse to why he stayed but I think what he really meant though is that he still had to get over her. I think Fatespeaker had thought the same thing. I knew she wanted to go but I never thought she would do it, she was always following what people told her, even if she didn't like it, just like sunny used to do. "What does he see in them"I thought, laughing shaking my head. The next thought that came to my head was how Fatespeaker would get to the Sandwing village. But I remembered that the portal to the desert still worked, since glory had seen no reason in closing it after the war had ended.

~Glory~

In all my conversations with thorn I have noticed two things. One is that you do now mess with her, the only one she actually try's to hide her temper from is sunny. I cant blame her to much though, she is new to being queen and she is still trying to prove that the deserves the spot, I did the same thing. The second thing I noticed is that she and sunny are vey different, or at least used to be. I can see the affect sunny has had on her mother. She is, well not nicer, but less prone to killing. Yet sometimes I still cant help but wonder how the two could possibly be related.

I have not met Stonemover yet but I'm assuming that he has something to do with it. Being a cross tribe dragon must be hard, I wonder if it always affects a dragon's body like it did with sunny. A thought I've had many times, trying to imagine what my child would be like if Deathbringer was the father. I can tell that he has thought about it to, we just never get around to talking about it. Technically we aren't even together, but everyone knows that it's inevitable, even us. We just have to much pride to admit it.

I smiled at that thought, realizing just how stubborn the two of us were, it was one of the things that allowed us to spend so much time together. In fact he had almost come on this trip with me until I had told him he needed to watch over the kingdoms. I would have thought about this more but any further thoughts I could have had were interrupted when thorn burst through the door into the throne room. "Come on," she said, "they are finally all here." I had been waiting in the throne room because she had called a meeting with all the queens to discuss how things would change after the end of the war.

It would have been boring enough if I was participating in the meeting, but because I'm the queen of the 2 tribes that weren't in the war thorn wants me to be more of an instigator. She led me at a brisk pace to the meeting room, and when we got in you could feel the tension in the room. So much for my plan of getting a nap, I thought. Each queen had guards around them and a cautious look on their face. Then again I should have expected that since they had just been fighting against each other for almost 20 years, I was even kind of surprised they all came.

Surprisingly, no one was attacked at the meeting, any disputes were solved by thorn before they could become psychical. "You didn't even need me," I commented the meeting. "I didn't know what it would be like having them all in a room at once. If I had known it would have been that easy then I wouldn't have asked you to help, although I do assume that you had at least wanted to be there for the meeting," she responded. And I admit I had to agree with her on that, "they are queens, they just cant risk looking bad, just like us."

She chuckled slightly, "I guess you're right." "Now if you don't mind," I said, "you don't need me here anymore and I've already stayed longer then I wanted to. So if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go up to my room and get some sleep, then I'm going to go back to the rainforest." Thorn nodded, And with that I turned and started walking to my room. There was a lot of action in the palace recently, trying to remove burns impact on the place. But even so it didn't take long to get to my room, people tend to move out of the way of a queen.

Sleep took me quickly, and my dreams were more then pleasant, however very explicit. Dreams like that of me and Deathbringer were becoming more common, not that I'm really complaining. When I awoke I found myself completely pink, which I have learned to associate with pleasure as well as happiness. After I had turned my scales back to their normal pattern, I decided to fly out the window in my room to get to the courtyard instead of taking the crowded and winding pathways of the palace.

It was a short flight to the courtyard where I landed to check in with the guards at the main gate before taking off again in the direction of the portal to the rainforest. I got there and was about to fly into it when someone came out, almost running into me. I was about to snap at them when I noticed that it was Fatespeaker. She faltered back a few steps when she saw me and started muttering an excuse for why she was here but I cut her off. "I was just heading back to the rainforest anyway, go do what you want." After I said this she got a relieved look on her face and ran off towards the Sandwing palace. I then dashed into the tunnel behind her.

I was almost too excited to finally be getting back to the rainforest; I got out of the portal and flew quickly to the main part of the village. However what I saw there eliminated most of my excitement. Deathbringer was standing in the middle of a circle of injured dragons, and as I flew closer I saw that he was also injured. I landed in front of him and tried to put on an angry act, "What happened here," I demanded. "Yes glory I am fine, thanks for asking," he said with a smug smile obviously seeing through my act. "As for what happened, there was a fight, I stopped it, simple."

"Why did you stop it like this," I asked giving up on trying to look angry as I signaled the medical dragon over to look at his injuries. Yet even injured he was still able to speak in his normal smug tone that he used every time he knew he had won an argument with me, "Your welcome, and besides, you know you would have done worse." I sighed, acknowledging his victory, and turned to fly away, smacking him in the head with my tail as I did so. "Come on," I called. I then led him back to the queens hut, the entrance to which still occupied by a line of dragons. I announced "I will not be accepting visitors at this time. I would appreciate it if you would try to deal with your own problems instead." You could hear sighs from the assembly when they heard this but they slowly started leaving.

He turned to leave after I said this but I caught him with my tail, "Maybe I will acceptone more visitor," I taunted him. I walked into the hut and lay down on the bed before continuing, changing the topic to a more serious tone "I had a lot of time to think while I was away." He lay down next to me, "Anything I have to be worried about," he said with a concerned tone in his voice. I replied quickly, "maybe, but I want to hear what happened here first.

Finally giving in he quickly explained the situation in the village and to my dismay it seemed to be about the same. "Doesn't anyone do anything but fight and sleep here," I complained. He then went on to explain that he was only talking about the integration, and that training and school were going well. I assumed he said this only to get my hopes up, but I couldn't tell. I sighed and accepted the fact that it would be a slow transition. After he was done he turned to me and said, "now what were you thinking about over there that had such an impact on you."

I then went on to explain my train of thought about sunny and cross tribe dragonets, finally going into my thoughts about our dragonets. He put his wing over me after I was done and I looked up at him, "We keep flirting with each other and everyone expects us to be together, so why aren't we?" He looked down at me and for the first time the look in his eyes was not smug, and not quite protective either, it was caring. "I thought we were," he said before leaning down and kissing me for the first time, hopefully of many.

His lips were rough and a little scarred, but it was still the best thing I've ever felt, turning my scales completely pink. Much to my dislike he ended it quickly, but by then I wanted more. I rolled him over so I was on top of him and said, "I guess we are." This time I kissed him, and it was deeper and more passionate then the first kiss. I ended it just as his tongue entered my mouth, causing him to let out a small whimper. "Now, Now, none of that. At least not tonight, I need to relax and as fun as that is, it's not relaxing. Besides I am very tired."

And with that I laid my head down on his chest and promptly fell asleep, with him still underneath me.

This is like my fourth time redoing this chapter, I really hope you like it.
