From ML-AWESOMENESS: "What if Soos was the author?"
Interesting theory... I'll give it a whirl! This one-shot occurs during Gideon Rises (around the point where Stan goes underground). Enjoy!
Inconspicuous
He was going crazy from all of this pretending, all of the lies. He'd watched two of his friends nearly die today because Gideon couldn't keep his creepy baby hands to himself. The kid was in jail now, but it didn't change the fact that the guilt inside of him was growing because if he hadn't written any of those books, this would not be happening.
He regretted writing the journals almost all the time. It was terribly hard to pretend that he had no idea what some of these creatures and magic spells were whenever Dipper began to read aloud. The memories were difficult to suppress as the boy looked at him with an expression of wonder, reminding him far too much of himself at that age. Dipper was his friend and yes, he wanted to help the preteen explore - but there were those rare times that he had to put his foot down whenever a monster was just too dangerous to look for.
Caring for the twins hadn't been part of the plan.
With a sigh, he collapsed at the desk in his room, listening to his abuelita snore from the next room. Even she didn't know how much trouble he had gotten into years ago. He wasn't quite sure how she'd react, knowing some of the dumb things he had tried just to get records of the supernatural creatures in Gravity Falls.
It had been so long since he had buried the three journals. He could recall where each was with perfect clarity, and the mere thought caused his fingers twitch.
No. There was a reason he had hidden the journals in the first place. One could grow too obsessed with the secrets of this small town, and it was for his own good that he didn't dig up the past.
Unfortunately, knowing that Dipper was in possession of the third journal made his throat tighten. The kid was becoming more and more interested in Gravity Falls with each day, and he knew that if the twelve year old kept digging, he wouldn't like what he found. He was worried about the Pines twins, worried that they would cross the line one day and go too far.
It wasn't as if he could reveal his identity to them, though. The foolish act he put up to try and get others to underestimate him worked, and breaking that glamour would only hurt his friends. He could already picture Mabel and Dipper's faces if he sat them down and explained it all.
Reminding inconspicuous was for the best. Hiding in plain sight was the right thing to do. Befriending the twins hadn't been part of the plan and growing to care for them was definitely not in the initial plan either.
Protecting them was a very real job now, though. He could play the bumbling sidekick and still make sure that the kids weren't getting into too much trouble. He could laugh and act like he hadn't spent a good few years researching all of the supernatural things the younger twin loved.
It was okay. Really.
...Then why did it ache to know that they wouldn't ever see the real Soos?
Apparently all I can write is angst today.
Has anyone seen the teasers for Northwest Mansion Mystery? I'm very excited for the episode, mainly because I love the more spooky episodes and just because IT'S COMING BACK FROM HIATUS!
