Stefan came downstairs, stopping by the double doors to the living room where Bonnie sat alone on the cushioned seat of the bay window, seemingly staring at nothing.
The vampire frowned.
"I'm about to leave...you're sure you don't want to ride with me to pick up Jamie from camp?"
Bonnie turned away from the window to look at him. She didn't feel like a road trip even though it would only take a few hours to get there and back.
Bonnie wasn't in the mood to do much of anything these days except sit around the house. And wait for Damon to come back.
The corner of her mouth lifted in a half-hearted smile. "I'm sure. I'll just wait here for you two, okay?"
Stefan scratched the side of his head, looking uncertain. He didn't like the idea of leaving her alone.
"I might make dinner or something." She tacked on at the last minute, so Stefan wouldn't worry about her just sitting there alone doing nothing.
"Well why don't you invite Matt over to keep you company." He suggested.
Bonnie nodded her head. "Yeah. Okay." She lied to get him to go away already.
But he remained in the entryway looking at her with concerned eyes. "I'll try to be back soon okay."
She nodded.
"Maybe the three of us can go to a movie or something later on this evening."
She nodded again. "Yeah, maybe." She said with no intention of going anywhere.
In the last couple of weeks Bonnie learned that if she just agreed with whatever Stefan said he'd let her be and stop hovering over her like a mother hen.
Damn, she just wished that he'd get a life and leave her alone. But she couldn't tell him that without hurting his feelings. She understood that he was just worried about her, but he was doing too much. She felt suffocated by him. He was just always there, checking to make sure that she was okay. What exactly did he think she was going to do because Damon ran off with Katherine...kill herself?
Damon and Katherine split town a day or so after Stefan took Bonnie away, trashing the boardinghouse and leaving behind a couple of dead bodies in their wake, a delivery guy who'd been drained dry and a petite, caramel skinned girl who looked eerily like Bonnie.
Her heart had been cut out of her chest with a butcher knife.
Stefan kept that little detail to himself when he told Bonnie the news of the two leaving town together.
And of course Bonnie blamed everything on Katherine as if Damon was some innocent bystander and not her partner in crime, which he definitely was.
Bonnie had complete tunnel vision, seeing Damon as the victim in all of this.
As she saw it, Katherine had set all of this into motion. The only thing the bitch wasn't guilty of was Jamie's disappearance that day when they all thought she had taken him. It was just a coincidence that he'd gone missing that day. There had been some sort of mix up at the camp and Jamie was at the lake with another group of campers when he should have been with his group who was doing arts and crafts.
Bonnie's jaw clenched when Stefan closed the space between them.
If he told her one more damn time that she had to stop pining away for Damon, she was going to lose her shit.
She really was.
She was sick of him telling her in his subtle little way that she needed to give up on him.
How many fucking times was he going to tell her that the Damon she knew was gone? She heard him the first time he told her! Damon without his humanity was not her Damon. Stefan was driving her fucking crazy trying to drill this into her head. She got it!
Bonnie didn't want to go off on Stefan, so she got up, cutting him off before he could speak. "I'm going to go upstairs, okay. Don't forget to lock the door behind you."
Stefan didn't try to stop her. He could feel Bonnie's growing resentment towards him and knew that it was only a matter of time before she exploded, letting her feelings out.
And hopefully it would happen soon because it wasn't healthy keeping everything bottled up inside of her.
When Bonnie got upstairs instead of going into her bedroom, she went to Damon's instead. She slipped off her flip flops and laid down on his bed. Trudy had changed the sheets, so the bed no longer smelled of him. It was crazy how so abandoned and lost she felt without him. Yes, lost. Somehow he'd become the center of her world. He was that constant that she'd come to rely on. To need.
And without him nothing seemed right.
The only thing keeping Bonnie going was knowing that he was alive. That was the only thing that made all of this bearable for her. He was alive.
It had been two weeks since everything happened and every night since then Bonnie had the same nightmare of Katherine shoving her hand into Damon's chest, but instead of withdrawing it like she did and compelling him, she pulled out his heart, killing him and Bonnie woke up screaming out in agony every time.
Gawd, how it hurt so much being without him.
Bonnie ended up crying herself to sleep.
"Damon." She moaned. Even with her eyes closed, Bonnie knew those lips, but somehow they felt warmer, like he was human.
She must be dreaming, she thought, sighing disappointingly in her sleep.
Well she'd gladly take dreaming of Damon making love to her than the nightmares of watching him die right in front of her night after night.
"Have you missed me?" He asked between trailing kisses down her body.
Oh god, he was going to go down on her. Bonnie loved when he ate her out. It drove her crazy having his mouth on her flesh.
"Yes, I've missed you so much... missed this." A tiny gasp escaped through her lips when he nipped her skin with his teeth and then moaned a second later when he licked the same spot with his tongue.
Bonnie couldn't get over how warm he felt against her.
"Oh yeah." He said removing her shorts and then her underwear.
He placed his hand on her smooth mound and began to circle her clit with the pad of his thumb.
Bonnie's legs fell open.
Oh god how she missed this.
"I love you so much Damon."
He suddenly stopped, his hand disappearing from between her legs.
Bonnie opened her eyes.
He was situated between her legs, fully clothed and looking down at her with steely blue eyes. Bonnie had never seen his eyes so cold, especially when looking at her. She instinctively placed a hand over her sex, covering herself from his gaze, for the first time ever feeling vulnerable with him.
It's a dream she reminded herself.
And just like that, the coldness left his beautiful blue eyes.
"What's the matter Bonnie, don't you want me?" He asked, something flickering in his eyes.
The girl swallowed hard.
Damon placed his hand over her delicate wrist and moved her hand away.
His eyes lowered to her center. "You're so pretty down here, you know that?"
Some of the tension eased away from Bonnie and she relaxed once more. She watched as Damon placed his thumb in his mouth, licking it and returning it to rub her clit.
Bonnie's eyes closed, her back arching off the bed as she bit her bottom lip.
She was getting wet and he could smell her arousal. Her scent stirred the beast inside of him and Damon changed into his true form, vamping out.
He lowered his head and began to lick her with his tongue. Bonnie cried out, placing her hand on the back of his head, opening her legs wider, totally oblivious of his monster's face.
Damon removed her hand, lifting his head slightly, watching her as he opened his mouth wider and allowed his fangs to fully extend. He was going to bite Bonnie, something inside of him needing to mark her.
He lowered his head, turning his face towards her inner thigh and just before his fangs were about to pierce through her flesh Damon felt himself being pulled off of her and thrown into the wall.
The violent impact caused Bonnie's eyes to pop open and she sat up on her elbows to find Damon and Stefan going toe to toe in the ultimate battle for dominance while totally destroying the room in the process.
What kind of crazy ass dream was this?
But then she heard Jamie yelling her name from downstairs and she could hear the terror in his voice. Her eyes focused on the two vampires going at it in the corner of the room and she noticed that Stefan was wearing the same clothes he had on that day and that's when she realized that this wasn't a fucking dream, but actual reality.
Oh god!
Bonnie scrambled for her shorts, her hands shaking as she struggled to get them on. Jamie yelling her name was sounding closer, like he was running up the stairs. Oh god, she couldn't let him come into the room!
Finally getting her shorts on she got off the bed as fast as she could only to fall to the floor when she stood up, her weakened legs giving out on her. But it was too late because the boy had entered the room.
Bonnie tried to push him away when he knelt down beside her. "No Jamie get out of here!" She yelled at him, not wanting him to get hurt as the two vampires fought.
But he wasn't listening to her, his eyes trained on the spectacle that was taking place in front of him. He was mesmerized watching Damon and Stefan fight. It looked like something in a movie, especially when they were using their vamp speed to bomb rush each other into the walls, creating gaping holes.
Bonnie grabbed a hold of her brother's shirt to get his attention. She had to get him out of there and managed to pull both of them up, only to watched in horror as Damon sped over to them and yanked Jamie away from her, holding the boy by his neck.
Everything went still.
"Welcome home buddy!" Damon chuckled, kissing the side of the boy's head, still vamped out.
Stefan made a move towards the two and Damon tightened his hold around Jamie's neck. "I wouldn't do that if I was you Stef. I might just slip up and accidentally rip off his head."
Stefan stopped in his tracks, raising his hands. "Let him go Damon. You know you don't want to hurt Jamie."
Damon ignored his brother, his eyes going to the petite girl who stood frozen to the spot, her heartbeat going crazy inside her chest and drowning out everything in the room, including Jamie's heartbeat.
"You still love me now Bonnie?"
Two tears spilled down her face. She couldn't believe that this was happening. Her heart was breaking in two. "Please don't do this." She said in a strangled whisper, her fear causing her to lose her voice.
"You didn't answer my question."Damon said, intentionally cutting off Jamie's airway and the boy began to struggle for breath, clawing at the vampire's hand. "Do. You. Still. Love. Me?"
Bonnie squeezed her eyes shut, wanting to rip out her own heart so that she wouldn't anymore. "Y-Yes."
Damon sighed, shaking his head. "Wrong answer." And right before her eyes the vampire drew Jamie to him, ripping into the boy's neck like a rabid dog.
"NO!" Bonnie screamed.
Damon let the boy go, letting his body drop to the floor at his feet, his mouth covered with blood.
Not giving a damn about herself, Bonnie ran to her brother dropping to the floor and pulled him to her.
She wrapped her hand around the open wound, trying to stop the bleeding. Her eyes blinded by tears.
Stefan hurriedly bit into his wrist, placing it in the boy's mouth and forcing the blood down his throat, saving his life as the wound began to heal.
Bonnie raised her tear stained face up to Damon.
"I don't want your love." He said with an emotionless voice as he stood over her.
Bonnie looked like a little kitten that had just been kicked.
Jamie's eyes shot open and he gasped for breath, his hand going to his neck in a panic, drawing his sister's attention away from Damon.
"It's okay...you're okay." She said, bending down to kiss his head.
"No hard feelings buddy." Damon said to the boy, drawing everyone's attention back to him. "But your sister needed a reality check." His eyes met hers once again. "Right Bonnie...I hope I made myself clear." Pause. "We wouldn't want a repeat of this because next time Steffy here might not be around to save his life."
Bonnie swallowed hard.
"Leave." Stefan said, his voice gruff from trying to hold back the beast inside of him. "Now." His green eyes bleeding black.
Damon snorted, unaffected. "Don't worry Stef, there's nothing here I want anymore." He said looking at Bonnie. He turned to leave, but then stopped when he got to the door, turning back to the three. "She's all yours, brother. Enjoy...I sure did." He said, licking his lips.
Bonnie stiffened.
When he was gone, Bonnie looked at Stefan. "I should have listened to you. I'm sorry. " She paused for a second as emotion overtook her. "T-Thank you for saving my brother's life."
Stefan's hand reached out to touch her face, his thumb wiping away her tears.
Two days later, Bonnie sat in the library behind Damon's desk signing her name to the documents that Stefan placed in front of her, officially becoming the new owner of the boardinghouse.
Now Damon wouldn't be able to step one foot inside the house unless invited. Stefan was determined to protect her and Jamie from his brother and after what happened Bonnie no longer thought he was over exaggerating because he was right.
The Damon that she knew was gone.
