Flashback...
"What would I do without your smart mouth? Drawing me in, and you kicking me out. Got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down."
Bonnie couldn't help the smile that spread across her face as Damon sang along to the John Legend song that played on the radio. He moved over to where she sat, pulling Bonnie to her feet and into his arms to slow dance with him. They were outside in the backyard waiting for the steaks to finish cooking on the grill as the sun began to set in the sky getting ready for night. It was just the two of them now that Jamie was at summer camp and not wanting to be a third wheel, Stefan would conveniently get scarce, leaving the two alone to spend their evenings together.
Bonnie loved these quiet summer nights alone with Damon. It was her favorite part of the day and she looked forward to them.
"What's going on in that beautiful mind?" The handsome vampire sang, pulling the girl from her thoughts.
She gazed up into his eyes as they continued to slow dance.
"My head's under water but I'm breathing fine. You're crazy and I'm out of my mind." He sang, bugging his eyes at that last part.
Bonnie slightly threw her head back laughing.
Damon gently swept the hair from her face. Bonnie had it up in a loose knot with a side swept bang because it was so hot outside. It had been so humid the last few days and the girl was doing everything she could to stay cool.
Damon suggested that she not wear any underwear under her summer dresses when she complained of sweating in her nether regions. She gave him the side eye like that was going to happen. Her without any underwear on was like an open invitation to the cookie jar. Damon wouldn't be able to leave her alone. He really loved her scent and at times, especially during that time of the mouth he would look at her with a gleam in his eyes, making her gulp, reminding her of his true nature as a predator.
Bonnie sometimes forgot that about Damon because he never really let her see that side of him outside of dire situations.
He only ever slipped up once in revealing is true form to her and that was a while back when he unexpectedly vamped out while going down on her. Bonnie had never seen him loose control like that before and it was all because he'd been so turned on by her. Maybe had she been older, the girl would have reveled in the fact that she had that kind of effect on the vampire, but she wasn't. Bonnie was still growing into her own and she had yet to feel the full power of her sexuality and that was something that definitely came with age.
Damon leaned his forehead against Bonnie's as they continued to move slowly to the music, his voice becoming more heartfelt as he sang the next verse.
"Cause all of me loves all of you. Love your curves and all your edges All your perfect imperfections. Give your all to me. I'll give my all to you." Bonnie wrapped both her arms around his neck, pulling him closer as he sang to her.
"You're my end and my beginning. Even when I lose I'm winning. Cause I give you all of me And you give me all of you..."
Every day Bonnie was falling deeper in love with Damon. She loved him so much that at times it was scary. Here she was seventeen years old and she'd already found the love of her life.
Present Time...
It was the first game of the season and their football team had won. So when the football players and cheerleaders swarmed into the Grille after the big game to refuel their teenage bodies none of the customers complained about how rowdy they were.
Everyone was in a good mood.
Bonnie was the last one to enter the restaurant, walking slightly behind the others. She looked really pretty in her form fitting cheerleading uniform. Caroline had did her makeup right before the game in the girl's locker room for some reason wanting Bonnie to look extra hot for the game and the caramel skinned beauty didn't know what her blonde friend was up to until they got out on the football field and the new guy in school Vernon Boyd came up to talk to her.
He and Caroline had a couple of classes together and apparently he'd asked about Bonnie after having seen the two girls talking in the halls.
"Hey Bonnie." The handsome dark skinned boy said as he walked up to her.
Looking up from grabbing a bottle of water from her bag, Bonnie spoke. "Oh, hey Boyd." She responded, calling the seventeen year old by his last name like everyone else in school did.
The boy licked his lips, finding himself nervous all of a sudden. He was normally a very outgoing guy, but for some reason he got all awkward around Bonnie Bennett.
"So you ready for your first game as an official TimberWolf?" She asked after a moment to fill the silence when he didn't say anything more.
Boyd was on the football team. She'd heard from Matt that he was a really good player and with him now playing for their school they had a really good shot of going to the finals this year which no one thought would happen now that Jesse had graduated and was now playing college football.
"Yeah, I think so. I feel good, so it should be a good game." He said confidently. Talking about football taking away his awkwardness.
"Hey Boyd, stop running your mouth and get out there on the field with the rest of the team!"
The dark skinned boy actually blushed, feeling slightly embarrassed by the coach yelling at him. He rubbed the back of his hot neck. "Look, I have to go. I'll see you after the game, okay?" Not giving Bonnie a chance to respond as he high tailed it onto the football field with his helmet clutched to his side.
"So, how did it go?" Caroline beamed brightly as she came up to Bonnie seconds later.
"How did what go?"
"Your talk with Boyd!"
"Oh. Fine." She shrugged, not really understanding why the blonde was asking.
"So he asked you out then?" Caroline squealed excitedly, clutching Bonnie's slender arm in her hand.
The caramel skinned girl frowned. "What?" Jerking her head slightly back. "No. He didn't ask me out...and why would he?"
The usually bubbly blonde rolled her eyes. She really didn't get Bonnie sometimes. The petite girl was absolutely gorgeous, but she didn't have a boyfriend and she didn't date and every time a guy showed interest in her, she was always totally oblivious. "Because he likes you Bonnie!" She practically screamed in frustration.
The girl's eyes widened. "What?"
Caroline huffed. "He. Likes. You." She enunciated very slowly to her new best friend.
Great, Bonnie thought to herself. This was just what she needed. Boyd seemed like a really nice guy, but she had other things going on in her life and dating was the last thing on her mind.
"Look, I'm not interested okay." She said turning away to pick up her water from off the bench.
Caroline's jaw dropped. "What do you mean you're not interested? He's so hot!"
"Then you go out with him." Bonnie said, cocking a brow.
"I would, but I'm not the one he likes." The blonde said, giving her a look. But then the girl paused, her mind switching gears. "Bonnie, what's going on with you. You haven't been yourself lately. Talk to me."
What could Bonnie say? That her vampire boyfriend was compelled into switching off his humanity and now he didn't love her anymore and that she was utterly devastated, not knowing which way was up as she tried to pull herself together and be strong.
The petite girl cleared her throat, swallowing hard. "Nothing's going on, Care." She lied, dropping her eyes to the bottle of water in her hands. "I just don't have time for things like that."
Caroline's blue eyes softened. Her hand reaching out to touch Bonnie's shoulder. "You mean because of Jamie." The blonde said softly, all of a sudden feeling like a jerk, forgetting that Bonnie had responsibilities that the rest of them didn't. Of course she wouldn't be thinking about boys and dating.
Seeing a way out of this conversation, Bonnie just nodded her head.
"Then I'll back off. No more trying to hook you up, okay." She said, pulling the smaller girl into her arms for a comforting hug. "I'm sorry, Bon."
After the game, Bonnie intended on going home but Matt wasn't having it. He put his foot down for once not allowing Bonnie to sit out on the celebration. And that's how the girl found herself at the Grille later that night.
"Hey Bonnie, over here, I saved you a seat!" Caroline yelled out loudly.
Bonnie looked over in her direction, nodding her head as she made her way to the table.
"Let's split a burger and some fries that way it won't count." The blonde said as Bonnie sat down.
Leave it to Caroline Forbes to think that.
Bonnie was about to respond when Liv, one of the cheerleaders, spoke from across the table. "Hey Bon, isn't that your legal guardian over there at the pool table."
The teenage girl's heart quickened as she swung her head around to see.
"Yeah, that's him alright. Gawd, I swear he's the hottest guy in this town. Bon, you're so lucky. You get to live under the same roof with all that gorgeousness." Caroline said, looking at Damon with pure lust shining in her eyes.
Bonnie swallowed hard.
A very good looking girl was back there with him playing pool. It looked like he was on a date or something.
She faced forward, not being able to watch anymore. Bonnie suddenly felt sick, she got up from the table telling her friends she had to pee and walked away quickly before any of them could volunteer to go with her.
Thankfully the restroom was empty when she got inside. Walking up to the counter, Bonnie braced her hands against the cool surface, her head bowed and eyes closed as she took in a couple of deep breaths, but it didn't work as moments later she swung around quickly busting through the door to one of the stalls where she preceded to throw up in the toilet.
It felt like she was slowly dying inside.
During those days that Damon was gone with Katherine, Bonnie had it in her head that when he came back that somehow she would be able to reach him even though Stefan kept warning her otherwise, but Bonnie wasn't trying to hear that shit. She wasn't going to give up on Damon no matter what anyone said. She told herself that their love was strong enough to withstand anything, even the power of compulsion. Bonnie just knew in her heart that his love for her was still there; that it was just buried somewhere deep inside of him.
Love didn't just stop or disappear into thin air like that, but all of that changed when Damon unmercifully bit into Jamie's neck and all of her little girl notions that love could conquer all quickly flew out the window because if Damon could hurt Jamie, who was the most innocent soul in the world, then there was no trying to reach him.
Her Damon was gone and everyday Bonnie suffered with the loss of him. She hurt so much inside and trying to be strong and go on with her life wasn't working because the girl still loved him in spite of everything.
Yes Damon had hurt Jamie, but that just proved that when you loved someone those feelings just didn't automatically go away.
Bonnie flushed the toilet, coming out the stall to wash her hands. She then rinsed out her mouth. Grabbing her bag and opening it up she pulled out a little mini size bottle of mouthwash, using it to freshen her breath. When she was done, the girl looked at herself in the mirror.
"You better not cry over him. You've shed your last tear over that fucker." She told herself. "Be strong. You can do this." And taking one last deep breath she left the restroom.
Bonnie's eyes remained fixed to what was in front of her, not looking in Damon's direction as she made her way through the crowded, noisy restaurant, but then a hand shot out grabbing her arm, halting her movements.
"There you are." Matt smiled up at her from where he was sitting at the table with his teammates. "We just ordered a party size platter of wings and fries, sit down."
"Whoa, wait a minute Donovan." One boy chimed in, annoyingly. "She didn't chip in on the grub."
"It doesn't matter and anyone who has a problem with that can leave because she's eating with us." Boyd spoke up before Matt could. "If fact..." He said, tilting his head slightly. "...let her have your seat."
"What?" The other boy sputtered with disbelieving eyes.
"Give her your seat." Boyd said, looking hard at the boy who sat beside him.
Not wanting to upset the star quarterback who was unbelievably buff for his age at that, the boy got up from the chair, not saying anything else as he slid over one seat.
Boyd then turned his soulful brown eyes back to her. "Will you please join us Bonnie, there's plenty of food?"
Now knowing that the boy liked her, Bonnie was about to politely decline and knowing she was about to do so by the expression on her face, Matt spoke softly. "Sit down okay Bonnie and take your mind off of things." He said knowingly, his blue eyes flickering to the other side of the restaurant where Damon was with a really hot looking girl.
Of course Matt didn't know what was really going on, all Bonnie told him was that her and Damon were no longer a couple.
"Okay." She finally said.
Boyd stood up, pulling out the chair for her before sitting back down. "So how's your shoulder?" Bonnie asked the boy beside her. During the game, a player from the other team rammed into Boyd really good, causing him to fall, landing hard on his left shoulder.
Boyd stiffened slightly. "It's fine."
"Oh yeah. Good. Because it looked like you went down pretty hard." Bonnie said, her eyes lowering to said shoulder which seemed fine now that she was looking at it.
"So you were watching me that intently that you noticed how hard I fell?" He asked flirtingly, wanting to change the direction of the conversation.
Bonnie rolled her eyes, causing Boyd to chuckle. "I was just messing with you Bonnie. Relax."
The waitress came over with the food, placing the large trays in the center of the table. No sooner had she sat the food down, the guys on the team went for it.
"Ladies first." Boyd said, putting a screeching halt to everything.
Bonnie wanted to laugh but she didn't. And part of her was kind of glad that Boyd stopped them because she didn't want to think about where these guys' hands had been.
"Thank you Boyd." Bonnie said, purposefully using the serving tongs to place a few wings and some fries onto the small plate in front of her, hoping that the guys would too.
They didn't.
All of them using their hands to serve themselves as soon as she was done. Bonnie wouldn't be going back for seconds.
"Really Bonnie?" Caroline huffed, standing over their table, looking pissed. "We've been waiting for you before ordering and you're over here chowing down with the football team."
Shit! Bonnie completely forgot about them.
Seeing the guilty look on her face, Boyd intervened. "Hey, it wasn't her fault, Matt and I practically had to twist her arm to get her to join us. Why don't you go get the rest of the girls and we all can eat together?"
"Yeah, CareBear, join us." Matt said licking his fingers suggestively. Ever since school started back up he and Caroline had been really flirty with each other.
The girl bit down lightly on her bottom lip. "Well...okay. I'll be back."
"I'll save you a seat." Matt said.
"You better." She said, tossing her blonde hair over her shoulder.
An adorable smile spread across Matt's handsome face as he watched her walk away. When he finally turned his attention away from the lovely view Caroline Forbes made, it was to find his best friend staring at him with a raised brow.
"None of your business." He said, biting into another buffalo wing.
"Fine." She said from across the table. "But just so you know, I think you two would be good together."
The teen gave her a soft smile, winking his eye at her.
The cheerleaders joined them at the table which was actually three tables pushed together into one huge one and they all ended up having a pretty good time, including Bonnie who managed to ignore Damon and his "date" all night even though she was acutely aware of them, but surprisingly thanks in large part to Boyd, who kept her distracted, she didn't look in their direction once.
But then one song put an end to all that.
What would I do without your smart mouth? Drawing me in, and you kicking me out. Got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down.
Bonnie stiffened.
There was a jukebox in the corner of the restaurant where customers could listen to music as they dined or played pool.
Her eyes flickered to the back of the restaurant to find Damon staring right at her as he held that girl in his arms, slow dancing with her. His intense gaze pinned Bonnie to the spot. She had to force herself to look away from him.
She got up from the table, swallowing hard. "I need to go...it's getting late." She said as an excuse when Matt, Caroline, and Boyd all protested at once for her to stay.
When he couldn't convince her to stay a little longer, Boyd moved to get up so that he could walk Bonnie to her car, but she stopped him, telling the boy that she would be fine.
Bonnie wanted to be alone because she could feel herself about to cry.
She left the restaurant, willfully not allowing the tears to fall until she was safely to her car and away from prying eyes.
Shit!
Bonnie angrily hit the car window with the palm of her hand, hating herself for crying once again over him. She'd been so strong all night and that one stupid song was her undoing.
She was so pathetic that it wasn't even funny.
Bonnie roughly wiped the damning tears from her face, dropping her keys on the ground when she went to unlock her car door.
"Pull yourself together, you little idiot." She admonished herself, squatting down with her legs closed as she braced her hand against the door to pick up the keys, but no sooner had she grabbed them, the keys where jacked from her hand.
Bonnie swung around, her heart going into her throat when she realized that someone had followed her outside, now regretting that she hadn't let Boyd walk her to her car.
"Leaving so soon Bonnie. I wonder why?" Damon smirked. "At least you looked like you were having such a great time, especially talking to that wolf." The smirk turning into a harsh sneer as he tossed her keys in the palm of his hand. "He likes you...a lot."
The girl swallowed hard, lifting up her chin. "Get away from me."
"But I thought you loved me, Bon Bon." He pouted.
Rage filled Bonnie not being able to take his mockery. She slapped his face.
Damon pushed her roughly up against the car, pinning her to the door with his body.
He sniffed her. "He didn't even touch you, and yet I can still detect his scent on you." The vampire's nostrils slightly flaring.
"Get off me!" She screamed, trying to push him away.
"But he doesn't know that you've already been claimed." Damon continued softly, nudging his nose almost lovingly against the side of her face as he held her trapped against him. "Maybe I should show him."
Bonnie didn't understand what the hell Damon was talking about, but all coherent thought left her mind when she felt him bite into the tender flesh of her shoulder.
Bonnie screamed, trying to pull away from him but only succeeded in making it hurt worse.
Damon didn't release her until he was sure that he'd marked her body. Bonnie slumped against the car door when he finally let her go.
He reached out to caress her cheek, his eyes roaming over her with such possession like never before. Weakened by the sudden loss of blood, Bonnie didn't have the energy to pull away from his touch.
"He'll know now."
