Guess who's back? :)

From SonicPlayer1225: "I have a great idea! in the newest clip of Northwest Mansion Mystery, Dipper is shown in the newspaper fighting a vampire bat. Can you make a one-shot about that "adventure"?"

Awesome idea! I was hoping they would talk about this in the episode, but they didn't. I thought the fact that he was holding some sort of taser was hilarious! This is going to be a ton of fun :) The one-shot is set before Northwest Mansion Mystery.

Recognition and Impulse

Dipper was unable to contain his excitement at being asked to help with a supernatural problem the cops were having (which he didn't quite catch because they were talking rather quickly, but still!); he had to excuse himself to "get ready" before celebrating behind the front door to the Shack and running up to the attic. Finally! They're finally coming to me for help with the monsters in this town! I can't believe it!

Mabel raised an eyebrow questioningly at her brother's unusual enthusiasm as he raced around grabbing Journal 3 and other suspicious items before stuffing them into his bag. She paused in her knitting to ask, "What's the big deal, bro-bro?"

She was momentarily surprised by the bright gleam in Dipper's brown eyes once he looked her way, an uncharacteristically goofy smile adorning his face. "Sheriff Blubbs came by to ask me to help them with a supernatural case! Do you have any idea what this means, Mabel?"

"Uh... they need help with something big?"

"They need - ! Oh, you already said it." Dipper stopped for a second as he hefted his bag over his shoulder, thinking hard. He turned back to her with that wide smile again soon enough though, and she held back a smile of her own at his excitement.

"But isn't it great? I can't believe they actually asked me to help! Oh, I can't keep them waiting! I'll see you later, Mabel!"

"Be careful, Dippingsauce!" she called after her twin brother as he hurried down the stairs, giggling as the sound of his voice faded quickly out the door.

"He'll be fine." Mabel went back to her knitting, humming to herself. I wonder what Sheriff Blubbs would possibly need his help with, though...

RECOGNITIONANDIMPULSERECOGNITIONANDIMPULSERECOGNITIONANDIMPULSE

The preteen stared openly at the two cops, wondering if he had heard them right.

"Wait... you think you saw some sort of giant bird? That's it?"

Deputy Durland shuddered, as if recalling something terrifying. It was a tad too overdramatic for Dipper's liking. "Yeah! It was big and I saw it last night! And the night before that!"

The boy fought the urge to slap his face with his hand. "Is there anything helpful you could tell me?"

"Well... It seems to like that old clocktower!"

Dipper sighed. "Right. I guess that's where we'll start, then."

He led the way up into the building, trying to ignore the way the two grown men were whispering to each other and giggling like teenage girls. The one time they actually asked him for assistance and the two were no help at all - figures. Dipper made his way up to the top, scanning the evening skies for anything that pointed to a clue about this "giant bird". Part of him was beginning to wonder if this was just a prank or a trap like Toby's call for "information" which had led to him being attacked by Gideon.

"See anything?" whispered the sheriff, who was huddling close by with his deputy clinging to his elbow.

"No... Are you sure that this thing was supernatural and not just a big bird?"

"It's real!" Deputy Durland exclaimed, quieting when the other two motioned for him to lower his voice. "It's big - "

Dipper fought the urge to roll his eyes. "Yeah, you told me that four times already."

" - and it's got big wings - "

"That too."

" - and it's coming this way!"

"Yeah, I - wait, WHAT?!"

The preteen boy's head whipped around as both cops cried out and hugged each other. To his astonishment, there actually was a gigantic shape flying towards them.

Sadly, Durland had gotten his observations wrong. This definitely was not a big bird.

No. It was a huge vampire bat.

Just my luck. Dipper swallowed down his fear as he glanced back at the cops. There would be no help coming from them; it was up to the brunette to catch this creature.

He ducked as the vampire bat swiped at him, narrowly missing his trucker hat as it flew around to get a better angle. Dipper rummaged through his bag, pointedly ignoring the loud screams from the cops with gritted teeth. The journal had to have something on these things. Unfortunately, it was at the bottom of his bag beneath his bat and paranormal detector (which he had stuffed in at the last minute and was a lot lighter than it appeared) so he had to practically throw everything he had brought out of there, not daring to look for any sign of the bat. The cops were now hyperventilating and almost near the ladder, ready to bolt if things got too dangerous. Dipper couldn't suppress the annoyance this brought to his heart as he rolled his eyes at their actions.

He finally found the journal and looked up in time to see the huge creature swooping down for another go at him. The boy gave a (very manly) shriek and dodged the claws, frantically finding the page on vampire bats. Deputy Durland gave a loud cry of fright as the bat tried to make a swipe at him and the sheriff.

Here it is! "Vampire bats are dangerous and large creatures - do not let them bite you! I've found a something shiny or a good shock will scare them off."

Dipper looked around nervously, struggling to spot something he could use. Shiny? It would have to be fairly big if it could distract that huge thing. I don't see anything shiny...

"Look out!" He glanced up and ducked at Blubbs tried to throw something fairly small at the vampire bat, only succeeding in making it angrier. The object sailed over the boy's head and landed beside him.

"What the - ? Wait!" Dipper picked it up - a taser? Really? - and hurried to the edge of the clocktower's railing where the creature was flying about, ready to swoop in once more. "This can actually help!"

The vampire bat flew at the preteen, whose heart was beating wildly in his chest as he scrambled to turn on the new weapon. It gave a loud screech and he hurriedly thrust it out in front of him, hearing the cops scream in terror as, miraculously, the taser let forth large sparks of electricity.

To their relief, the creature quickly backpedaled, still screeching loudly (this time in fright) as it flew off. It's silhouette became nothing more than a dot on the horizon after a few minutes and Dipper shut his eyes thankfully.

"You did it!" He yelped as the deputy unexpectedly shook his hand, his boss taking back the taser with a sheepish expression. "I thought that thing was gonna eat us!"

"It was a vampire bat," the kid explained, repacking his bag and putting the journal in his vest as he spoke. "It would probably just turn you into a vampire if it bit you, but they're still dangerous. I think that's the last you'll see of that big guy."

Sheriff Blubbs grinned widely, the happiness directed at Dipper surprising the latter. He had only ever really seen mocking smiles and sneers before from these two. "I hope so! Thanks, Pines."

Dipper turned away so neither of them would see his embarrassingly red face. "Well, I mean... uh, you're welcome. Oh, look at that! Uh, I-I had better get back to the Shack. Almost dinner, heh..."

"Oh, right!" The portly man nodded enthusiastically. He seemed to be in a good mood now that the bat was gone. "See you around, kid."

On the way down the latter, Dipper couldn't help but grin to himself. Maybe people knowing about the supernatural wasn't such a bad thing after all.

Why do they even carry a taser with them...?

Did you all watch the latest episode? I DID. I'M A TOTAL MESS OF EMOTIONS, HELP. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
