Chapter 20
I don't TVD
The trip to the Vatican would be simple. Like always, each priestess would take a part of the journey.
Because they were working on an untraceable path, they could only use Dahlias vision in her mind, of where they were actually going.
"So Klaus' crazy aunt wants you to move 23 people across time and space onto another continent, into a place no one in our group has ever seen the inside of, with the exception of her, and all you have to navigate there are her personal thoughts?"
Bonnie and Damon had been together for quite sometime now, and she knew her husband well enough to know not to interrupt him when he's on one of his rants.
He stood now, gloriously naked before her, hands placed upon his gleaming ivory form (gleam curtesy of her hard earned skills) one on his hip and the other taking up residence in his jet black hair.
Bonnie and Klaus had returned from their mission, which so far seemed to be a succes. Now they were on the last leg of the journey. Once inside the Holy City, there were priests there who could further aid them in their quest for success against the Heretics who sought to destroy them.
But the trouble was in getting there.
The gang had been facilitated by Dahlias masterful skills of they Way, to such a degree that all of them had increased significantly in power since beginning their 1 hour group morning prayer. It was because of this, that they now had holographic access to Father Francis. They could only see his face now, because any more was dangerous; apparently the Heretics had used their vampire powers in the past to infiltrate someone's dreams and steal information.
"It could be a trap, Bonnie!"
She didn't like arguing with her husband, but that distinct possibility had crept into her mind several times. Damon was simply the first to give it a voice.
Sighing Bonnie rolled over onto her back, partially covered by their bedsheets, and looked up at the ceiling contemplating the number of times she had been in this bedroom and never even noticed the ceiling time panels.
"We trust her, explicitly"
"Yeah, that's what I'm worried about."
Propping herself up on her elbows, Bonnie looked at her husband.
For so long, she only had the memory of him, for so long he existed out of sight and reach. She had lost him once, now there was so much more to lose. Now there was Mina. This certainly wasn't what she wanted for herself, but it was all she had, and she would gladly give her life a final time if it meant protecting her, if it meant protecting him.
"Don't lose hope Damon"
The whispered words brought her husbands troubled gaze to her eyes. He had missed her too, and now having her back, having his daughter back… he couldn't lose her again. They were going to fight this, the both of them, together.
She had her hand on Damon's face, looking into his brilliant blue eyes, when all of a sudden, there was an explosion of noise and confusion. The spell between them broken, they snapped into action, Damon grabbing her to his chest and speeding to the source of the confusion.
In the living room of the Salvatore boarding house lay a wounded Marcel. He was surrounded by broken glass and covered in blood. The noise they had heard before was the undeniable sound of Rebecca screeching.
Someone had thrown a wooden stake through the layers of protective prayers, the window, and Marcel's ribcage.
The vampire in question was knocked unconscious, having turned just a fraction of a centimeter to the left. He was having trouble breathing because the stake was more like a wooden shovel, and was cutting off his air supply.
"Back away everyone," commanded Dahlia. "Marcel, calm down, you don't need to breath remember?"
"Quit your chatting and help him!" Rebecca was getting frantic.
"How did this happen?" Bonnie asked, she had been in the blood room when the commotion broke out, and immediately her eyes went to Damon who was holding onto little Mina. She smiled at her daughter and then eyed Damon with a silent command. He nodded then whispered something to Mina and beckoned to Hope, taking the girls out of earshot of Marcel's screams and down into the safety of the prayer room.
Niklaus nodded to Hayley and Jackson, who would be of little help in this situation. They got the message and followed Damon downstairs, whooping and growling to entertain the young girls.
"Our hideout has been, compromised" Niklaus grunted, dislodging the wood from Marcel.
"No, really?" Rebecca groused as she fed her blood to her husband.
"We have to leave, now."
Rising to her feet, the ancient priestess made towards the door to the basement where Damon and the others had just descended.
"Wait, what? Now? Surely you don't mean to run?" Elijah looked incredulously at his aunt now, he wasn't one to run from a fight.
"Yes, I do, we are compromised Elijah. I don't know how but we have to get your nieces out of here right this moment. We don't know what else could happen."
"Well, if we aren't safe here, then I question the safety of the Holy City"
"Elijah, nephew. The Vatican has been protected by hundreds of priests for hundreds of years. They have barriers that have been reinforced for generations, not a few layers put up in haste. We will be safe there. All of us."
"Not all of us," interrupted Caroline.
She and Stefan had been watching the Heretic's movements closely lately. They had been regular, actually… too regular.
"That little parlor trick you saw back there, that was them taunting us. Telling us that if we thought we could hide, we can't." Stefan chimed in.
"So what do you propose, Stefan?"
Ducking into the basement, the whole unified bunch stood around looking at Stefan, waiting for his answer. Stefan's eyes were distracted for a bit, looking at the girls.
"We'll stay."
"What? No, Stefan! That's the worst idea you've ever had!"
"Damon, please, if you would give me the chance to explain-"
"It's a bad idea Stefan, next"
Stefan and Damon stood glowering at each other, so Bonnie took this chance to ask her best friend what was up.
"What's he talking about Care, you guys aren't seriously thinking about staying back here are you? Because we had a plan."
"Bonnie," Caroline sighed, she almost got choked up looking at her friend. Her best friend whom had sacrificed so much and who was now doing it all over again.
"We have to, you need to go, and be with your daughter."
"Then who's going to protect you, Care? Those guys could kill you."
"So? I've watched you die before Bonnie, and that killed me. Plus, I'm a vampire, I'm already dead, duh."
"Care,"
"Bonnie, don't. Don't try to stop us."
Something had changed in the atmosphere, all of her friends stood opposite her with the same looks on their faces. They were no longer fighting for their lives, they were fighting for the future.
That was three weeks ago. Now, standing in the outdoor chapel watching as Jo and Alaric shared their vows, Bonnie felt that something was off.
There was a presence there that hadn't been apparent only thirty seconds before.
Suddenly Jo's serene face contorted in a mixture of fear, surprise, and most of all pain.
She was bleeding from the abdomen as a man materialized behind her.
As she fell, Malachi Parker stood above her, watching as the life drained from his twin sisters eyes.
"Now it's a party."
A/N: Whaaaaattt? Hey all, I'm going to be finishing this one up soon, and also posting it into a competition! So be sure to vote for me when I wrap up the story okay! I'll post a link in my bio!
