Chapter 22

Final Chapter

Kai looked around to the edges of the warehouse they were standing in. Narrowing his vision he could see that there was pure salt lining the entrance. They knew how Kai had loathed his sister, and the only reason the Heretic's could have gotten out, would have been through his help. Alaric and Jo's dopplegangers had done the trick well enough. The Gemini were eager to help rid the world of Kai, and doing so with so very little effort on their part, well, let's just say there were few questions asked.

"I see you've taken precautions Bonnie, nice." Kai deadpanned.

She smiled, her eyes flickering to the windows.

Around the entire perimeter of the warehouse were rivulets of Holy water, crosses and pages of the Bible.

"Satan himself wouldn't be able to get out of here" she teased.

"Well," he said, relaxing his stance "what kind of games are we going to play, now that all the doors are locked and I have you all to myself? Now that Elena's safe and you're the one in danger, whatever will become of you? Ehh, you Mystic Fall's teenagers," Kai giggled tapping his left temple, "never thinking things through."

With that, he lunged at the tiny brunette.

But Bonnie had anticipated the move. Lifting her leg and moving Power to her thigh, she drew up her knee and kicked the hybrid squarely in the lungs.

Since the power was localized to only her thigh, and there was none in the foot that now extended through his chest cavity. In short, she was unable to be siphoned from.

Large brown eyes stared up at her from Kai's handsome face.

Going one on one with him had been her decision. While the other supernatural folks set out to track down and get eyes on the other Heretics, she and the human faction of their little bunch converged on Kai.

Coolly, she let a chuckle escape from her full lips.

"What? What's so funny?"

During the past few weeks, their dopplegangers had been going about the town, living their lives undetected by the Heretic's and Lily, while their originals stayed safe in an undisclosed area. Celeste had been able to conceal the power auras from the prayers she used to create them, so that even when she added a confusion layer to their individual make ups, they could pass under the radar as normal humans. Which was brilliant because they could bring them groceries.

Since the copies were made using trace amounts of their 'parents' DNA, they had no souls, and as such, were in essence shadow clones that could be killed and remade as extensions of the original donors. Shortly put, they were puppets of light and air that were essential in bringing down the Heretic's and their slow, but steadily growing army.

From within the enemy camp miles away, Damon mentally cursed himself for having been too cold to Bonnie. He should be there with her, forget the plan! Now he was here doing God knows what as he tracked a worthless scumbag instead of being at his wife's side. Freaking mortals!

Kai's soft mouth turned downward as he began to pout like a little child. The petulant fool had already lost, but he was still acting the opposite.

In a flash he was in her face, ready to deliver a bone crushing blow to the ribs, when Bonnie reached out with her left arm and grabbed his wrist. Using the momentum of his oncoming arm, Bonnie pivoted with him, knocking him off his center of gravity and kicking his legs out from under him.

Blinking from the shock of having been bested not once but twice by someone he deemed supernaturally inferior to him, Kai took a moment to collect himself before looking up at the small beauty who stood above him, taunting him with her classic grin.

"Had enough yet?" she quipped. Gone was the Bonnie who had lost all hope back in 1994. This woman who was currently kicking his butt, had her face and her voice, but there was fire in her eyes. He so badly wanted to extinguish it, but as before he was in capable to do naught but be warmed by it.

So this was the real Bonnie Bennett.

They had gone after Kai for a reason, there was no way the Gemini had six unfortunate souls who could not perform magic. One? Maybe, but six?

"There has to be a way" she told the other members of her team "there has to be a way to combat them. They have magic and an extended life, there has to be some way to match it."

"What are you saying?" Matt piped up, he didn't like the way the Heretic's had come into his town, and staked a claim on the place like they owned it. He was ready to fight back too.

"I'm saying," Bonnie continued, tapping the pen to her small diary "that if the Heretic's are evil incarnate, and in spite of, or rather in addition to, their vampirism can still use power, even though it's dark… there has to be a way to do it without succumbing to the darkness."

There were blank looks on Matt and Sarah's faces, so she turned to Alaric and Jo, who joined them from a safe location within the Gemini hideout via videocall.

"Jo, Ric, do either of you understand what I'm talking about?"

"Yeah, we do. Hold on one sec Bonnie," Ric shouted as he exited the tiny screen on her phone. Wherever they were, they had access to a lot of information, which had to be Ric's idea because it seemed Jo was just content having to look after her twins.

When he did return, it was with a stack of books that looked heavier than him.

"I've been doing some research Bon," Ric started. He then proceeded to inform her of the fact that, based on his research, there was a way for a priest or priestess to become as immortal as an Original vampire without having to stop using power. It was called transcendence, and could only happen in very rare circumstances. Those circumstances being, one had to be from a powerful line of priesthood, have a vampire for a spouse, and have a close relationship with either a powerful werewolf or an Original vampire.

Those weren't the terms exact language, but it was eerily clear that these types of things came about very rarely. Either that, or it was only meant for a select few to be able to transcend, thank God she had all three. The texts didn't read how exactly this transcendence was supposed to come about, so she kept Damon's bag of blood, along with a bag filled with the blood of all three Originals (an Original cocktail, as Damon called it) safe in a nearby location.

Stirring from his stupor, Kai made a motion like he was aiming to launch himself at her for a third time. Before he could move a muscle however, Bonnie expanded her powers and caught him.

Praying she didn't mess this up, Bonnie began to reach out with her powers and grasp on to the tendrils of Kai's dark power. If she did this right, she would be able to successfully separate all the dark power from whatever Light Kai had originally been born with.

Stirring suddenly, Kai moved like someone had shocked him.

"Hey!" he shouted "wha- what are you doing Bonnie?!"

It was working, she could feel some of his original Light power draining into her own. He tried to combat this with a little siphoning of his own, but Bonnie was draining him faster than he could recover.

For a long time she had wondered, what was at the base of a Heretic's power? Now she knew. By infusing more Light into her own searching tendrils, Bonnie could keep Kai's dark power at bay.

And the Light came into the darkness, and the darkness could not comprehend it.

This particular Scripture floated into her mind and she almost chuckled at the expression on Kai's adorable, fully grown face. She wondered now if he had aged a few years in the 1903 prison, since it wasn't his prison, time should have moved forward regularly for him.

That would explain the bulk, she thought.

Twisting and turning every which way, Kai could feel the life ebbing away from him, she couldn't kill him now, she needed him alive and well for what she and the others had planned. Apparently though, drawing power out from someone was just the same as being siphoned from, which is why he was screaming her name over and over.

The sounds of his cries fading was what snapped her back into the moment.

Panting and immobile, Kai lay open and vulnerable in the middle of the empty abandoned warehouse. Standing over his prone form, Bonnie looked into the eyes of the monster who had tortured her, who had come to be the bane of her existence. She almost thanked him though. If it wasn't for him, there would have only 1904 to go to, and she and Damon might never have gotten together. They might have never gotten out, their daughter might never have been born.

Mina…

Resolve hardening, Bonnie snapped her fingers in Kai's face, bringing him back to focusing on her.

"Heh, heh. You've gotten smarter Bonnie." Kai chuckled, eyes sparkling with mirth.

"You were with them, the Heretics. You brought them back. Why?"

"What? The doom team? Yeah I brought them back, they promised me immortality, and my powers."

"They were already immortal, they told you how?"

"Yeah, they told me, but I'm not gonna tell you" Kai said in a sing-song voice, before succumbing to a fit of coughs.

"No? But I'm not asking you to tell me am I Kai?"

She had brought a small bag of Stefan's and another of Matt's blood with her. She had learned through the grapevine (Enzo) that the Heretics were given Lily's blood to change. Stefan and Damon were both closely related to Lily (her sons, duh) but Stefan was also a Ripper. They calculated that his blood would be enough to do the trick on someone like Kai, she just needed to see it happen once.

Curtesy of Alaric, she had been gifted the use of several vampire killing machines, which were stored in various places around the warehouse, should the need for their use arise.

With one hand on a pack of vervain syringes, Bonnie reached for the bag of Stefan's blood. Ripping it open she shoved it into Kai's weakened mouth, whispering a prayer in the hopes that this part of her plan would work to.

"I brought you here for one reason and one reason only Kai" she whispered, leering over his prone form.

"It wasn't for you to simply tell me how it's done. Noo, that would be too easy. What I want you to do for me, Kai, is…" She paused in her speech, wrapping his hand around a large, sharp piece of glass and pressing the leading tip into his neck, watching as the blood flowed and his eyes began to dim.

"Show me."

A/N:

Well, that was it! Thanks so much for getting on board with me for this crazy ride! If you read carefully, you noticed that there were hints from the current season! There may be a sequel using season 7 as fodder, or something different. Anyway, please don't forget to vote for me in the inkitt competition, which closes in a few days! There is very little Bamon fandom representation there, so lets join together and make our voice heard! BAMON FOREVER!
