Secrets of the Night

DISCLAIMER: I Do NOT own Pokemon!

Chapter 74: Of Actions and Fate

Meanwhile, another plan was set into motion.

As soon as the sun had set and the half-moon shone beautifully in the starry night sky, Maya began to make her way through the eastern forest of the Sky division territory in search of a pokemon that would help her trail her younger sister. With night serving as her cover and element, she ventured deeper into the moonlit woodland. Her heart was set and mind focused. She, along with her pokemon partners went onward to their goal.

Moving through the woods like a ghostly breeze, the pale-skinned, black haired gothic teen panned her shadowed surroundings. The moonlight illuminated her elegant and lithe form but still kept her blended in with the darkness of the shadows as she peered past tree to tree.

Lyvette, her human-morphed shiny Zorua skipped ahead, fox ears twitching and listening for sounds and tail swaying to and fro. She served as the ears of their mission while Mavis, her now Mismagius, floated overhead to serve as the eyes as she scouted from above. And beside Maya was Freya, her female Meowstic whose white fur and golden eyes gleamed in the surrounding darkness.

It didn't take long for them to reach the vicinity where they heard several species of migratory bird pokemon resided. As they neared the last cluster of trees, Lyvette heard a noise and immediately she jumped back in front of Maya, her ears raised on alert as the rest of the girl's pokemon circled around her.

"Out for a nightly walk?" A man with flaxen hair and a long billowing red crest smiled at her from the roots of a nearby tree. He wore a long blue coat and was resting a book on his lap. "The evening breeze is quite refreshing so I don't blame you." He absently flipped a page, his sky blue eyes focused on the reading material and not on the girl and her pokemon.

"...Grandmaster Vindryl." Maya would have been surprised, if not for the fact that she was already waiting for something to pop out. She just didn't expect it to be a person, let alone the former head of the Sky division.

"Good evening," the man greeted with a friendly smile directed to not only the girl, but to her partners, the Mismagius, Meowstic and the fox version of Maya.

"Good evening," Maya repeated the grand master's words with a slight bow as her pokemon followed.

"Be at ease, young one." Grandmaster Vindryl closed his book and stood up, dusting the dirt off his coat. "Now, may I ask for the purpose of your visit here? It's not safe for a young lady such as yourself to wander around in the woods.."

"I was just enjoying the night air with my pokemon," Maya answered as she looked grandmaster Vindryl in the eyes, trying to show that she doesn't have a secret motive, which was nagging at her the whole time.

"Quite a long way for a walk from your division to here." The former sky division head chuckled lightly.

"I guess it is. We simply lost track of time, it seems," the gothic teen casually answered once more as her trio of pokemon nodded.

"Well, if you have a little more time to spare, would you care all to join me for a stroll around the lake? I hear a flock of Swanna love to bathe in the moonlight around this time," grand master Vindryl suggested with a sweeping motion of his hand.

"Be careful, Maya. It feels like a trap," Lyvette warned through telepathy that was only heard amongst themselves. She almost growled, but tried to remain as human as possible. Though, that was hard, considering she already had pokemon-like features.

Maya glanced at her companion and heeded her warning, but the flock of Swanna Vindryl had mentioned gave her an idea and she couldn't just leave it be. She accepted the offer and the former Sky division leader smiled at her decision and led the way.

The group headed somewhat downhill and ended up near a patch of tall swaying reeds. Vindryl Aurelius quietly moved apart the long blades and showed the girl and her pokemon a vast pristine lake with the reflection of the glowing half-moon adorning its quiet surface.

A swarm of Volbeat and Illumise hovered near the edges, casting a gentle yellow glow unto the waters. Although they weren't as brilliant as the moon and stars, they gave the atmosphere a similar tranquil effect. That and along with the Kricketune and Kricketot that came out to play created a certain ambiance in the air that could only be compared to the opening of a classical concert.

"It seems we're just just in time," grand master Vindryl informed quietly as his gaze focused on the incoming white masses at the edge of the peaceful lake.

Maya and her pokemon looked to the incoming forms but made sure to keep a cautious eye on the man as well as a safe distance. But soon their attention was completely taken by the elegant white Swannas that descended into the lake like angels as they spread their snowy wings high and craned their long necks.

One by one, the Swanna touched the waters, slightly disturbing its calm surface as it swam around in a certain pattern to welcome the the arrivals behind them. As the music of the Kricketune and Kricketot filled the background of the evening, the last Swanna made its graceful entrance, but unlike the rest it wasn't adorning the soft and gentle tone of white and blue. That particular Swanna had black charcoal feathers and lilac plumages on its underside.

The strange colors attracted the most attention, as expected, despite the shade almost blending in into the night. Maya and her pokemon remained rather poker-faced, more or less, however, they all had an idea that the dark Swanna would look good in their group. Considering its attitude wasn't rotten.

"So it did come again, this year," former Sky division leader Vindryl said almost to himself as he glanced at Maya's group. Not seeing much of a reaction, he chuckled to himself and absently told a story. "Years ago, I saw that particular Swanna arrive in Semira. It's not a shiny, much to my surprise but it's still very much a rarity. Immediately, I was intrigued by its appearance and came every night just to watch it in the lake. When the season became cold, the flock moved on and its mysterious existence had yet to be seen again. This year, I had a feeling it would make its appearance. And fortunately, it seemed I won't be the only one to witness it."

"...Why haven't you tried capturing it?" Maya inquired plainly, though fearing inside that there could be a reason forbidding her from capturing it as well.

"Ah. Good question." The flaxen haired man smiled. "Simply because I felt that I wasn't the right match for it."

Maya smiled faintly to herself, thinking if she should ask Grandmaster Vindryl, whether the Swanna would be a good match for her. The eyes of her fellow pokemon seemed to be encouraging her to do that.

"Who do you think would be a good match for her, then?" The gothic girl didn't really try hiding her expectations this time.

"Well, I'm a person who believes in fate." Grandmaster Vindryl looked to Maya. "Your presence tonight and its appearance may mean something. Care to put your fate to the test, young lady?"

The gothic teen nodded lightly and readied the Ultraball received from her sister. Gripping it in her hand, Maya felt like all this was actually fate, just like Grandmaster Vindryl said. Everything at that moment seemed to be possible. As the flock gradually dispersed, Maya began her move.

Walking around the lake, getting closer to the black Swanna, Maya inevitably attracted its attention. Their eyes stared each other down, but the dark-haired teen continued walking towards the ebony avian with the Ultraball clenched in her hand but not appearing to be threateningly. She wasn't about to just throw it at the Swanna's head or anything.

Maya's pokemon slowly tailed the girl as well, but the black Swanna didn't even glance at them. It was still fixated on the full human girl. Lyvette somehow felt insulted by the lack of attention. She transformed back into her pokemon form with a crimson flash, but even the small light didn't make the dark, feathery pokemon turn its head.

Finally Maya reached the closest point to the Swanna, where she was still on land. It seemed like the avian pokemon was closing in ever so slowly as well. But the ripples it left behind proved it was heading towards the dark girl.

"Good evening," Maya bowed her head slightly. She wanted this encounter to be as calm as possible. She needed a trustworthy flying-type, one that won't rage and throw her off its back. She was still not sure about the nature of the black Swanna. The answer from the pokemon will show its personality.

And much to her astonishment, the black Swanna bowed back but its eyes still carried a sense of wariness and dignity. Then it craned its neck upwards and fluttered its wide pitch-black wings. It didn't seem that hostile, rather it was observing her very carefully.

"He wants to know what your purpose is," Lyvette announced quietly.

A he? Maya blinked for a second before putting aside the matter. Right now, she had one goal and one purpose in mind.

"...Actually, I am in need of a flying-type." Maya glanced back at grand master Vindryl, making sure he was far enough to not hear her. "I want to fly after my sister. I want to protect her on a dangerous mission if needed, even though she wouldn't like that," she told the truth without hesitation. Lying to pokemon felt worse than lying to people for Maya.

The shadow-like Swanna paused and stopped staring in the blue eyes of the mysterious human girl clad in black and looked down at the water, before ultimately starting to observe the other pokemon nearby. He seemed to be thinking about what he should do. Just then, the black Swanna spread its wings again and cried out in an echoing yet melodic voice. The flock of white Swanna turned and began swimming towards him, forming a half-circle around the black Swanna.

Maya looked at the sheer number and knew immediately that they were outnumbered, excluding grand master Vindryl and his pokemon. As Maya's pokemon inched closer to the girl, forming their own defensive positions around her, the black Swanna slowly swam over and cried out once again.

"Maya, he's asking what's in it for him," Lyvette translated for her human partner.

Maya inhaled quietly. She had no idea how or what to answer the black Swanna. "I don't know...I don't have anything special to offer you. But I am in need of your assistance and if you accept my offer, I will try to repay you and make it so that you won't regret becoming a part of my team." Maya hoped her sincerity would be enough.

The other pokemon gathered next to Maya smiled, letting out some quiet cheers of encouragement, except for Mavis, who just melodically cried, keeping her poker-face, but even that cry felt like a happy one.

The black Swanna continued to contemplate before he turned around to face the white Swannas, much to Maya's disappointment. He raised his wings proudly and cried out to the others who exchanged glances before giving nods of acknowledgement. One by one, the white Swannas left the circle until only the black one remained. Turning his attention back at the girl, he swam closer, letting Maya take in its sheer size and grandeur. With a short cry, he folded his wings to his side and loomed over the girl and her pokemon.

"H-He agreed." Lyvette translated, disbelief in her eyes and mental voice.

Maya took a minute to process everything and smiled. Stepping to the very edge of the soil of the lake, where the ripples even spread the water enough to wet her black boots, she extended her hand with the Ultraball.

The dark Swanna suddenly turned his head and turned around, swimming just a little bit back, before turning around again.

"...I think he wants you to get in the water." Lyvette almost giggled at the fact her human partner won't get out of this night dry.

Maya sighed with a chuckle and a smirk. This was the least she could do for the Swanna that accepted her proposal with almost nothing to gain. Taking off her black boots as well as her white knee socks, the gothic girl breathed in deeply, as if she was about to dive in, and started walking towards the avian pokemon, feeling the freezing water of the lake at night. The bottom of her dress quickly became soaked and the long ends of her blue ribbon belt floated limply behind her. Even though her discomfort was visible, Maya simply continued forward, every now and then smirking as she breathed out. Fate was a strange thing.

When the water reached her waist, she stopped, her glittering blue eyes looking up at the black Swanna who now floated inches from her. He gave her an approving look and gazed at the black and gold capsule that Maya had in her hand. With an inhale of anticipation, the girl gently extended the Ultraball towards the black Swanna and lightly bowed her head.

The graceful bird bowed back but much lower to show more respect before he faded into a brilliant red mass and vanished within the capsule. Maya felt the sphere shake in center of her palm as the blinking red light reflected in the lake and in her eyes. Finally the light died down and a ping resounded in the gentle breeze. Maya breathed in the cold night's air and looked at the sky, smiling warmly while clenching the black and yellow capsule in her hands.

"Thank you, Faye."

She then made her way back to shore where her pokemon and the former Sky division head waited for her. The Mismagius levitated her boots while Maya slowly got out of the water. Her dress from the waist down was dripping and freezing her, but she didn't care too much. Grandmaster Vindryl extended a hand to help her before taking off his long navy blue coat and draping it across the girl's shoulders, the length of which make the end sag on the moist and dirty soil but it didn't seem to faze the man in the slightest.

"Thank you very much, Grandmaster Vindryl." Maya bowed lightly at him before walking further away from the cold waters. She walked barefooted for a while until they reached an old mangrove where they sat down on the roots to rest, Maya beginning to shiver as she clutched the long heavy coat closer to herself.

"Are you alright, my dear?" The former leader of the Sky division asked as he observed the girl from the opposite side of the roots. Without his coat, he only had his white button shirt, gray scarf and dark trousers. "I somewhat expected for you to reach out to the Swanna but I never expected you to wade in the cold waters just to do it."

"It was the least I could do," Maya said plainly. "Even when fate has arranged everything, one still needs to act in more ways than one in order to achieve the end."

"That is very wise, indeed." Grand master Vindryl nodded approvingly as he cradled the book he was reading earlier in one arm. Soaking in the refreshing evening breeze, he absently fiddled around with it and glanced at the young teen. "When you're feeling well enough, feel free to say. I'll escort you back to your division. You aren't from the Sky division, correct?"

"No, I'm not. I'm from the Gambit division," Maya answered. Even if she did try to hide her division, grand master Vindryl probably had ways to figure it out, if he was interested enough, but it didn't seem like he cared for that at all.

"Ah, I expected as much when you strolled into the woods with a Zorua." The flaxen-haired man looked to the grayish brown and blue fox who held back a glare and a growl. "It seems like your partner doesn't like me." He chuckled nervously.

Maya picked up her partner in her arms and used the coat to slightly hide her from view as well as use the furry tricky fox's warmth to fend off the cold air. "Lyvette is just wary of other people."

"Even if it is a person of authority?" Grandmaster Vindryl studied not only the shiny Zorua but also the girl. A friendly smile streaked his face and he laughed casually. "I guess it might be the fact that I'm supposed to be back at my respective base and not lounging under a tree and reading a book in the moonlight."

"Psh, like I care that he is a master of some sort." Lyvette only let Maya hear her annoyed thoughts. Even if she didn't care, she still didn't want to get in trouble with a person like that.

Maya almost smiled, but controlled herself and simply hugged her mischievous Zorua tighter. A spontaneous smile might have looked suspicious to Grandmaster Vindryl and he would start asking questions. The still dripping gothic girl wasn't in the mood to try and come up with excuses. The coldness was quickly tiring her too. She felt as if she could fall asleep right on those roots.

"Hmmm… It seems the night is growing ever colder. Maybe it's best that I escort you back to your division to rest? And maybe, squeeze in a couple of flying lessons while we're at it." Grandmaster Vindryl stood up and sent out his Pidgeot who raised its massive wings and let out an echoing caw.

Maya nodded and stood up, still holding Lyvette with one of her arms, while the other found the Ultraball and released an ebony Swanna that showed much more elegance than the Pidgeot with his appearance. His wings, though dark, seemed to gleam like silk in the light of the moon above. Slow yet powerful movements showed how much the Swanna was proud of himself.

Only then did Maya remember that she didn't know the Swanna's name. Looking at Lyvette in her arms, she quietly asked her to inquire how the dark avian pokemon wanted to be called. The shiny Zorua nodded and asked the Swanna with the help of telepathy. The avian seemed a little surprised at first about hearing a voice in his head, but quickly understood, when he saw Lyvette staring right at him. The proud pokemon cried something out and Lyvette informed the surrounding pokemon and humans of the Swanna's response.

"His name is... Orpheus."

"Nice to meet you, Orpheus." Maya slightly bowed her head once more, getting the same response from the black Swanna as well.

"A telepathic Zorua, that's interesting," Grandmaster Vindryl spoke up, somewhat more intrigued with the shiny Zorua rather than the black Swanna and his supposed name. His sky blue eyes focused on the brownish gray fox before shifting to the rest of Maya's pokemon, specifically the stoic-faced Mismagius and the glaring Meowstic. "You seem to attract very unique characters to your side."

Maya wasn't sure how to respond. She just observed her pokemon and smiled faintly. They would be special to her, even if they didn't have strange characteristics or abilities.

"Anyway, shall we depart?" The former division head stood by and watched the girl recall her shiny Zorua and Meowstic before putting on her long socks and boots and slowly getting on the back of the black Swanna, her Mismagius remaining and floating around her, making sure the girl wouldn't fall. Once Maya was in place, Grandmaster Vindryl got on the back of his pokemon as well and the two took off in the darkness of the night.

Maya kept a hand on the base of the black Swanna's neck as her other hand clutched the former Sky division leader's long fluttering coat. It wasn't her first time to fly, having rode on the back of an Altaria with her sister a few times back but it was her first time flying without her sister. And this time, it wasn't an Altaria, it was a newly caught black Swanna.

Orpheus though, showed no trouble with a human on his back as he continued to glide gracefully through the air. Maya's Mismagius, Mavis floated nearby, matching the speed but not the level of skill and finesse the black bird had.

"Keep your head in line with you pokemon," Grandmaster Vindryl coached her overhead as his Pidgeot flew a little ways ahead. "Read his movements and try to match him by leaning."

Maya nodded but kept her focus on the black Swanna's head. Now that she thought about it, during her flight with Faye Lin, Maya kept looking to her younger sister while unconsciously following her lead as she steered the avian. She just had to do the same. Taking a deep breath, she followed the former Sky division leader's instructions and shifted her weight accordingly. She found it difficult at first with the chilling wind blowing against her face but once she became in sync with the black Swanna, she felt lighter and she noticed they were picking up speed.

"You're quite the natural," the former leader complimented just as he spotted the ancient Aztec-styled residential area of Trickster's Labyrinth and motioned to land.

Maya landed first, only because Grandmaster Vindryl pulled back to observe her landing. The gothic-styled teen and her nightshade avian landed slightly clumsily on the gray brick-pavement. Orpheus seemed to have overstepped after nearly forgetting to account the passenger on his back while Maya kept her eyes on the ground and not on the Swanna.

"That was good for a first try." The flaxen-haired man and his Pidgeot landed almost quietly next to them.

Maya didn't pay attention to the praise as she patted Orpheus apologetically and extended a hand to her Mismagius who floated over and ushered her off the ebony avian. She carefully dismounted but slightly stumbled due to the long blue coat. Grandmaster Vindryl quickly got off and used his fluid reflexes to grab the teen's arm before she completely fell forward. Once Maya regained her balance, she pulled away from the man and stepped back, her eyes focused on his slightly surprised face before catching a glimpse of the book Grandmaster Vindryl had with him on the ground near the Pidgeot who picked it up with its short beak and handed it over to the Mismagius.

Mavis then floated back to Maya and Grandmaster Vindryl with the book outlined in ghostly energy. After looking at the two humans and earning a nod from Maya, the Mismagius returned the book to Grandmaster Vindryl who smiled gratefully.

"Thank you very much." He dusted off the dirt and gazed at the blank brown cover with his a hint of nostalgia.

"...I hope you don't mind me asking, Grandmaster Vindryl, but what is that book?" Curiously, Maya eyed the thing that gave the impression of being almost like a treasure to Vindryl. "It seems quite important to you."

The former sky division leader's face lit up almost like a child as he raised the book and gestured to it. "Ah. This old thing? It's a picture story book." He opened it up and showed Maya a page with an image of an ivory building surrounded by lush green grass, thick leafy trees and behind the fairytale-like setting was a radiant blue sky with snow white feathery clouds. "It's a beautiful story called The Palace in the Sky. If you've read of the Temple of the Sea, then you might find it almost similar. But the one that governs it is not a pokemon like Manaphy but a small civilization of people."

"Seems like an interesting fairytale," Maya figured. She didn't know the story about the Temple of Sea, but it seemed very much interesting to her.

"Hmm... Would you like to borrow it?" Grandmaster Vindryl suggested as he closed the book and handed it to the dark-haired teen. "I've read it plenty of times and I think it was by chance as well for you to have a look at it."

"Thank you." Maya bowed slightly, receiving the book that seemed rather plain with a blank brown cover but when she held it, she felt the rough texture of the spine. Glancing at the side, she saw an intricate design of feathers and ancient-looking text etched along the bind.

"Now, I best be off. There's a lot I need to do back at the Sky division base after the incident two nights ago." Grandmaster Vindryl was about to walk towards his Pidgeot when he looked back at Maya once again. "How are you faring after that night? I apologize if my successor and my pokemon scared you."

"It was definitely a surprising turn of events, but I wouldn't say I was afraid. My pokemon and I were far enough to not get hurt at the least," Maya explained. Even though they weren't hurt, the sudden and unexpected attack still shook her. But she thought she shouldn't show such weakness to Grandmaster Vindryl.

"Ah, I see." The former Sky division leader nodded in relief and got on his Pidgeot who flapped its wings readily. When he settled securely, the raven-haired girl suddenly walked up to him and his pokemon and returned the long blue coat.

"I nearly forgot." Maya handed it back to Grandmaster Vindryl and bowed gratefully. "I'm sorry if got dirty. Thank you once again."

"My pleasure." Grandmaster Vindryl smiled care-freely and took off into the night sky.

Maya, along with her Mismagius and Swanna watched his form fade into the starry night. As the evening breeze began to pick up, the girl shivered slightly and clutched the book closer to herself. With deep exhale, she then returned Orpheus to his capsule and walked back to her quarters with her Mismagius.

After changing into a clean and warmer sleeping attire, Maya sat on her bed as her shiny Zorua and female Meowstic began to settle in their respective spots. Mavis, her Mismagius was floating around, seemingly not tired at all. She seemed to be getting used to her new environment and form.

Maya watched her two furry pokemon nestle warmly in a pile of pillows and her ghost-type float about before her eyes soon traveled to the book that lay on her side. Out of curiosity, she opened it up and carefully went through the old pages, not wanting to accidentally tear the paper. Under the light of the nearby lamp, she skimmed through the contents, casting an intrigued look at the colored pictures.

The book seemed pretty normal but she could tell it was well cared for despite its aged state. Arriving at the beginning of the book, Maya gazed at an image of a pair of silver wings. As the room settled into a comfortable silence, her three pokemon moved closer to the girl and looked curiously at the old picture book. They seemed equally interested.

Maya smiled faintly at her pokemon and decided to read the story for bedtime.

Long ago, the world was filled with endless wars that not only affected humans but pokemon alike.

Forests were burned down, farmlands were stripped of their resources and turned into barren wastelands and even the beautiful flowing rivers were left empty and dry. The world seemed to be dying. Throughout it all, only a handful of places were left untouched by the greed of man.

One of those places became a place of refuge for pokemon who sought for peace and solace. From all around, pokemon big and small, of all shapes and sizes flocked. The people who lived there welcomed them with open arms and shared the fruits of the land without hesitation. Everyone lived in peace and harmony.

However, eventually word reached out and soon men and their greed came to claim the bounty of the lush paradise. With the threat of destruction closing in, the people rose up to defend their home and protect the small sanctuary that they had created.

Many lives were lost yet the insatiable taste of greed never ended. Soon, the once plentiful land began to wither away as well. All hope dwindled and that small patch of paradise seemed destined to be lost forever.

However, as fate decreed, a plan was set into motion by the very pokemon that sought refuge there. They unearthed the remainder of the plentiful lands and by the power of the legendaries, they brought the remnants of the dwindling paradise into the sky, along with the remainder of people that welcomed them and protected them even at the cost of their own lives.

But that was not the end. Like before, evil men weren't easily swayed to give in. They continued to chase after the land and claim it for themselves. Utilizing their pokemon, they took to the air to finally take their final claim over it. Given such desperate circumstances, drastic measures were made.

A vow was established.

The remaining survivors of the land were given a gift. All pokemon and their future descendants, wild or tamed, big or small had the ability to soar through the air and reach the blessed paradise were to respect and obey their words. It was not a notion of absolute control, but token of gratitude and respect for the kindness they showed and the sacrifices that they made.

With that turn of events, the land became unreachable to outsiders and the people were saved.

And since that very day, the land continued to exist, floating in the skies, traveling from region to region and offering rest and shelter to any pokemon that flew their way. The place became known as the Palace in the Sky. And its people continued to watch over and protect the land for generations.

On the final page was a picture of an ivory pavilion standing in the midst of a floating land mass. There were other smaller floating land masses around it, some had ruins made of white stone, remnants of the houses destroyed by the war. There were also large fruit trees, greenery and even a lake. And to top it all off, the radiant blue sky served as a backdrop with silhouettes of pokemon flying around in different directions. They almost seemed like angels in heaven.

Maya gazed at the image for a few moments more before she glanced at her pokemon. Freya and Lyvette, her Meowstic and shiny Zorua had fallen asleep beside her while Mavis, her Mismagius was nodding off in midair.

No matter how scary or huge pokemon are, it will always be the work of humans that destroy. Only humans seek profit no matter the cost. Maya started thinking while softly petting the furry pokemon nearby. I wonder if the Rayquaza would have hurt anyone, if it weren't for Lord Altair's orders. She looked at the storybook one last time and set it down on the tiny table near her bed. Maybe the legendary pokemon would have been better off in a place like that.

Maya glanced at the still floating Mismagius and carefully pulled one of the purple and pink extensions of her cloak like body. Mavis was half-asleep when she flinched and started looking around quickly, but once she saw that it was just Maya pulling her to lie down on the bed, the Mismagius quietly wailed and settled down behind Lyvette and Freya.

With all her pokemon comfortably sleeping, Maya turned off the lights and finally could sleep herself. The images of the storybook kept flashing in her head. And in the midst if all that, a tiny sliver of fear of another strange and powerful attack hitting another division lingered. A lot of people were still probably feeling on edge because of that inciden. Maya just hoped that that uneasiness won't bring up bad actions. Then again, she was destined to leave Semira soon. She would be away from such incidents and closer to her sister. Hopefully, it was the right and safer choice.

Far off into the dark of night where the sound of waves crashing along the coastline reverberated throughout the air, two figures stumbled into a white sandy beach. They trudged wearily away from the waters and nearly collapsed when they reached the soft green grass. One was a large green and blue dragon whose amber eyes gleamed in the moonlight. Beside it was a boy with pitch black hair and glimmering silver from their journey, the shiny Flygon laid on his belly as the boy leaned his back against him, his body shivering as he clutched his travel bag closer to himself.

It had been two days and one night since they left Semira. They traveled aimlessly on the first day, seeking rest and shelter on a deserted rocky landmass in the middle of the sea before once again taking to the air with the only goal to get as far away from the island, that was once their home as soon as possible.

As the bitter cold ocean breeze swerved around them, Aeron curled himself into a ball and buried his head in his arms. His whole form shivered, not only from the cold but from the whole ordeal that he went through. Zircon, his Flygon, despite his exhaustion, curled around him protectively, using his wings, tail and head to shield the now fragile teen from the harshness of the night.

Faint sobs echoed in the air as the boy clutched his arms, his nails nearly digging into his pale skin. Weakly, he shook his head, his voice continuing to murmur a sort of mantra. "A-All... This time... All this time... He lied to me."
